As someone who has lived in NSW , Queensland and Currently WA I love WA because the city is big enough but not too big, it’s a great state to raise a family and the weather is great. I’ve travelled to each of Australia’s states and territory and honestly each one has pluses and minuses. Australia in general is the best country to live in no matter where you live.
WA is nice, I grew up there but now live in Melbourne. The area of Fremantle has a similar vibe to the entire Melbourne! Arts, music, bars. Perth does offer a lot for its size.
As an Australian that's lived in 5 countries as well as multiple Australian states, that's just simply untrue. The only people who say Australia is the best country in the world to live, are people who haven't lived in many other countries.
South Aussie here! Some of the things you mentioned are definitely part of why I love it here so much! Less traffic, and no matter where you are in Adelaide, you’re always within 15-20 mins of the beach or the hills. There are many beautiful national parks to explore, and stunning beaches. We are also pretty sheltered from most natural disasters here - we don’t get the cyclones or the flooding that they get in other states, but we do get bushfires. And it is so true about everyone knowing each other - or at least having mutual friends 😊
Should switched SA with VIC and woulda bin more on point. Adelaide has always reminded me of a MUCH smaller version of LA, sandwiched between hills & beaches, Glenelg acting like a mini Venice bch, the sandstone hills along pt.willunga are like the OC, even our airport is similar position as LAX is to the coast.
As a resident of WA I have to say I was shocked that you placed it number one. it gets a bad reputation of being boring when it has in my opinion the most stunning outback and coastline in all of Australia. one thing that does get overlooked is the northern parts of WA because of the south west despite the Nyinggulu (Ningaloo) reef creating a stunning coastline around Exmouth
I used to take foriegn groups on tours of our Pilbara undertaking 14 days. Folks from Europe, South Korea and the U.S. are always stunned at the isolation and distances we'd cover to visit the best places. The infinite quiet silence at night, never experienced in all their lives, can't come away uneffected.
having travelled all over Australia and lived in Darwin and Melbourne I still think Perth has the best to offer in terms of lifestyle and weather. I am very thankful to be living here.
As someone that was raised in Perth, its just stunning, amazing weather, decent nightlife, great parks, travel destinations (rotness island, beautiful beaches), very safe, I've been all around the world and no place is better than Perth.

I have been in Australia for 23 years and except Canberra I have been to every capital city for at least a month. I have been however residing in Melbourne for approx 20 years and I agree, it is a great city with amazing infrastructure. In saying that, I still dream one day of being able to move to Perth. Amazing place for sure...

As someone born and raised in Melbourne, every state could be the best, depending on your priorities. We really are the 'lucky country', as everywhere is beautiful in Oz 👍☺️🇦🇺
Also from Melbourne, even with our recent problems. Personally, it's still the best city in Australia. Every city has something to offer so it's personal choice.
Perhaps some people might recognise that there is a lot of Victoria that is NOT Melbourne. Just as there is a lot of NSW that is not Sydney or a lot of Queensland that is not Brisbane or the Gold Coast. The best part of Victoria is well outside Melbourne. But don't tell those city dwellers that or we will be buried under escapees.
@@smitajky we certainly recognise that Victoria is much more than just Melbourne and our nature can’t be beaten here, something for everyone. Most people know regional Vic very well and you can’t get a parking spot.
West Aussie here, and you won't get an argument from me over this choice. We have so much on offer here, without the crowded population. I'm very glad to be an Aussie, but especially being an Aussie in West Aus

QLD all day everyday, beautiful one day, perfect the next is spot on. Great laid back people, incredible beaches and tropical and subtropical rainforest areas. In summer it does get hot the further north you go with a killer humidity. Winter days are ridiculously beautiful (not cold at all), bright coolish and clear, perfect to be outside!
Queensland will always have a place in my heart,I worked at Brisbane airport as an aeromechanical engineer for a year and now that I'm officially a pilot I'm looking forward moving to brisbane from Spain as an RFDS pilot

If I were to choose a state to live in in Australia, I'd probably pick Queensland, because I really like tropical weather and rainforests together with breathtaking beaches and turquoise water all around. However, I also find Western Australia a pretty reasonable place to reside in, since it has stunning nature and Perth is considered one of the most liveable cities on earth. And most importantly, it is not that expensive, just like Sydney or Melbourne.
I'd choose a nice old European home in Hobart, Tassie myself... Australian here, However it does get cold down their in winter so perhaps southern NSW. Tropical weather is only good for swimming. But it means you'll get dangerous animals in the water with you..

If you live in an apartment that is surrounded by concreted areas, it will feel hotter. Try and have a home that gets some natural breeze and with greenery & tree shade close by; And never, just never wear polyester or synthetics generally, in summer or in the warmer months! Read the clothing labels. :) Well, that's my tip. :))
West Aussie here, WA has everything you’d want out of an Australian state, and some. I’m just starting to explore my own backyard, and I’m disappointed I didn’t do it sooner. Perth is big enough to have a lot of big city amenities, but small enough to feel affordable and friendly. I know it has a reputation amongst some locals as being boring, but it’s really starting to develop a unique identity in recent years. But WA is more than Perth. You have the very liveable small towns dotted throughout the south west, that are beautiful. Most are a weekend trip from Perth, some being a day trip. There’s also a tonne of natural diversity too, and stunning landscapes the state over, most of it is very well kept secrets, and still maintains its natural beauty without the over-popularity of tourism.
True about Canberra feeling like a collection of suburbs connected by country scenery and roundabouts. Perfect for people who want a taste of both city and country.
I absolutely need to visit Australia someday. If I had to pick a state to live in, I'd choose Queensland because I love the rainforest, palm trees, abundant vegetation, thunderstorms, tropical cyclones.

@@NoamTheGOAT50 Yes, I live in Metropolitan Melbourne, very close to the city. It's not that expensive, of course more than SA and WA but it offers more than both those states. Great thing about Melbourne is if you don't mind being 40 minutes away from the city you can still get reasonable property prices, especially when compared to Sydney. There are many places here that are still affordable and not too far from the city.

My two trips down to Australia showed how huge and diverse the country is. And I've only been to New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria. Loved everwhere I visited in Australia.

I'm from Western Australia and I'm glad to see we got number 1, we have kilometers of coast line and some incredible beaches such as in exmouth, one example is Turqoise bay, which has some of the clearest water, it also has incredible cities! Thanks for putting us at number!

Perth is truely a beautiful majestic city. It has the largest inner City Park known as Kings Park which is 60 hectares larger than New Yorks central park. As Australia's third oldest capital city Perth is a vibrant modern City with a modern office towers but at street level, still retains much of its rich heritage. Anyone visiting Perth please visit Fremantle , Kings Park, Rottness, Cottesloe Beach and the Perth CBD. All World class. Thankyou for your awesome video of our beautiful country.
WA also has the best night skies in the world!! You can drive a half hour into the hills from the city and get nice dark skies but even if you want truly dark skies with the majestic Milky Way arching across the sky you can get the darkest rated skies in just a couple of hours. Of course our weather makes seeing the night sky very accessible compared to more cloudy locations in the tropics or further south in places like Tasmania and Victoria.
And particularly spot on is Perth, best city in Oz, can walk across the CBD in 15 minutes, it’s ultra clean, heaps of work, traffic is bearable…., all in all the pick of the litter.
Adelaide South Australia has been voted most livable city in Australia since the beginning of 2022, it was Melbourne, Victoria before that, Adelaide with its green belt is beautiful and a great city to bring up kids.. 🐨👍
i am from the adelaide hills and i havent been to every state but i have been to most and i always call SA the laziest state. like yeah we have pretty beaches but not popular, yeah we have desserts but not as much, we dont have enough people or anything like that its like we are doing the bare minimum to be pretty
@@georgiamcdonald5730 - the whole west parklands is my back yard, every time I leave Adelaide, other places are horrible and I just want to come back here and I was born in Melbourne, I could not leave my 5 bedroom house with, $130 a week rent, I love the quiet life of Adelaide, I've lived up in the hills for years back in the 70s and 80s

Just moved to Perth 3 weeks ago and its the best, I love it in W.A. its got everything, beaches, forests, towns and the city all within an hours drive. So much to see and do here coming from someone who lived in Alice Springs for 20 years
stats don't lie! definitely not the most "exciting" city (although there's a lot more to do than people give it credit for), but livability indexes are VERY high for the city!
I’ve lived and worked in 5 of our nations capital cities. Adelaide is by far my favourite for all of the reasons mentioned. Traffic , people , beaches , central market and ease of getting from place to place. Apart from Perth , the other 3 mainland capitals are left way behind. Unless you want to spend your leisure time shopping. Yesterday we spent nearly 3 hours in traffic to get to the closest sandy ocean facing beach only 60km from our home 😒. Ahhh !!
Talking to Australians everyday at the airport here in the Middle East is something that I enjoy. They're so friendly and don't pick any offence if you ask them, "How was your flight ?" They're very approachable 😊
I don’t think there is a bad state or territory in Oz - so much to see & do and all of them have a lifetime of unique natural beauty and friendly people everywhere. Sometimes Sydney gets a bit of a bum rap from other Aussies in the way New York/LA do in the US - that’s normal. For anyone moving to Australia from overseas I think climate is a massive deal. Queensland - hot sweaty summer but magnificent in winter. Melbourne & Hobart - get a little bleak in Winter. And Sydney, Adelaide and Perth - similar latitudes and probably more rounded climates. Sydney is ridiculously expensive on the housing front so my vote would go for Perth or Adelaide based on the things I like. My favorite regional city in Australia is a Newcastle. Fantastic place.
I think you have to be quite resilient to live in some of the island territories. You could be waiting months for deliveries of essentials, edical services are limited and things like roads and vehicles aren't maintained that well
I live in the Northern Territory but I love Western Australia and I agree with it being underrated, they've got the Kimberly's to the far north with stunning views, then you have the great Sandy Desert in the interior, the wheat belt past the Pilbara region, Kalgoorlie/Boulder a mining town towards the start of Nullarbor plain which stretches across to South Australia then you have the magnificent coastline in the south west corner but it does contain a lot of sharks and it's also home to the pink lake called "Lake Hillier"

I'm so pleased that WA is number one! Like many people have said in the comments, all states could be ranked the best depending on what you're looking for... but WA just has something truly special about it. It's so huge and vast, and there is so much to see, from deserts to historic mining towns, to jaw-dropping national parks and incredible beaches. Seriously, this state is so underrated! Also the city of Perth is one of my favourite cities on Earth, as it is the perfect size, bustling with energy but not as overcrowded as other capitals, and the majority of people here are so friendly! Damn I love this place
I’ve lived in the NT and Queensland and also visited Norfolk Island. Depending on the skills and qualifications you bring any State or Territory in Australia is a great place to live. The sense of wide open space is incredible. If you’re in the outback don’t forget to look up at night, the Milky Way is unreal !
I love the NT. Spent 6 months there and seriously fell in love with it. Minus the huge amount of homeless, theft, and stores closing at like 5pm every day. My time there was awesome
as someone who lives in Adelaide i would like to point out, it seems we don't have a ton but we have many events they just dont receive alot of notice but they are really good events and are often really fun and sometimes educational but in a fun way!
One thing to mention for Victoria is the sport culture, every year the afl grand final draws 100,000 people to the MCG we also have an amazing sport precinct including AAMI park, the tennis center and other stadiums.
Sport in Victoria is not just great because the AFL presence is huge, it’s also got a nice mix of everything and is a globally recognised sport city. Something that I reckon should factor with the rankings for sure

I agree with this as well, NSW at the top. And by the way, WA is not a state, it's a bloody country with a very small population. I mean it's bigger than Europe.
Perth in Western Australia doesn't have toll roads, and the traffic is generally low, making it a great place to live. The city has a thriving mining industry that provides high-paying jobs, and on top of that, it gets sunshine for 80% of the year.
I recall a year of 13 consecutive days of temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit - it's what the marketing guys euphemistically call " lots of sunny days". WA is too parochial, too far away from Australia's major transport corridors and most critically too tainted by crony capitalism. It''s also the home of some of the weirdest crime in Australia. The other thing I struggled with was the scorching hot, grey lifeless sand that most of Perth is built on. Water security is also a worry for Perth. Apart from that it's pkay but it isn't the best State. That would have to be Queensland. This documentary conflates W.A with Perth. Perth is one thing but most of WA is quite something else - dry, arid and uninhabitable. '
Pretty much agree with this list, although as someone who is from Canberra it's definitely doesn't deserve number 3. Plenty of other places to live with lower cost of living and better weather and things to do.
Glad they mentioned the low crime of SA as this is so true. I've lost my bag or purse on 3 or 4 occasions in the city or suburbs and I always get it back with all the money and cards still in it. People drive out of their way to return it home to me (Im usually not contactable by phone and maybe people do not trust the police as much as returning something to it's owner themselves as interestingly no one has ever handed it over to the police). I don't even bother cancelling out my bankcards when I loose it.
I lost my wallet in Adelaide and I'm from Western Australia I would have been in huge trouble because I was only going to be there for a couple of days. I went to one of the shops I was at and asked if it had been handed in and sure enough, it had. I love South Australia. :)
Raised in Victoria moved to Western Australia when I had my first child. Best thing I ever did. Have travelled all around Australia in a caravan loved Northern Territory but Perth will always be home, can’t beat it.
@@gulliverthegullible6667 The water isn't that had that gets exaggerated, years ago it was worse but not now, regardless after living around Australia I can see why it has been voted so livable, it's more affordable, although lately everything is getting more expensive of course like everywhere, but compared to say Sydney buying a house is more affordable.
I moved to Tasmania from Sydney 10 years ago. I have never looked back. It is the smartest move I have ever made. As far as I am concerned Tasmania is number 1 with daylight 2nd and far behind.
Good to see ACT ranked up there, I go to uni there and I do think it's underrated. And having done a big road trip through WA I really can't argue with that, absolutely loved it!

As a full time traveler in Australia I agree that each state has so many amazing and diverse places to see, but what makes this country truly the best place on earth are the people.
As a Perth resident, we do have a lot of fun stuff happen at night but Fremantle is probably one of the busiest places overtaking the city. Kings Park is the real treasure as there are so many wildflowers there and in a lot of our bushland. Plus there are some amazing places to stop for drinks and we have a bridge you can zipline off. Pretty fun here.
As a South Australian, I object to the focus on Adelaide and surrounds. If you are a true traveller, there is outback SA, the west coast of SA and lots of beaches one can have to oneself, experiences like whale watching at the head of the bight, swimming with sharks, seals or giant cuttlefish on Eyre Peninsula, great surfing breaks, lots of great hikes. Not to forget the bottom end of Yorke Peninsular and Fleurieu Peninsular with spectacular beaches and views. Kangaroo Island is another spectacular place. I recognise that a major problem is the driving it takes to find these things. However, all worth the effort if you have more time. Come on over.

Unfortunately NSW is in the thrall of the road building lobby and that won't change until NSW governments stop building toll roads. Toll road companies want to see the continuance of the rivers of cash that toll roads bring. Sydney has the most tolled roads of any city on earth. Sydney actually removed its trams to allow more space on the road for cars; that's worked out really well - not.
I always watch all your videos, and you can imagine how excited I was to see you actually covered my country. You were pretty spot on too. Although WA as number 1? Hmmm... but hey ho. Our family moved to Perth in 1967. Dad set up an office -- just him and a secretary for Phillips Petroleum. Other oil companies also had set up small offices. These geologists from North America and Europe agreed it was the best assignment you could get. They came up with an agreed description --- " Perthly Paradise" 1 an area of 1/3 of a continent that was theirs to explore. 2 the corporate headquarters were pretty close to the opposite side of the planet. 3 it was friendly and a safe place to raise a family.😂
From Melbourne....but I have to confess big soft spot for WA ...both the Kimberly and the Pilbara instantly won me over... not forgetting Wittenoom in the Hamsley ranges
One thing I like about Victoria is that being rural is not a big disadvantage here. Most of the state has a good climate and the distances are smaller meaning anyone of us can get access to the facilities of a large city ( Melbourne) when we need them but don't have to have the disadvantages of that same large city when we don't. As the climate is generally good properties tend to be smaller meaning that even being truly rural isn't a big problem. There are 12 different towns within pushbike riding distance of where I live. One of which is a significant city of over 30000 people. You CAN have your cake and eat it too where I am. Oh yes, without ever having had a high income I own three houses. One of them has a farm and another has a one acre backyard.
Hi First of all, not an Aussie, however I do genuinely love Australia, Got the chance to visit twice in my life, but definitely planning to visit again, I would love to live there but it is getting harder by the day if you do not meet the Australian criteria, definitely one of the best places to live in the world. I do agree 100% with your pick, and yeah Melbourne can have four seasons in a day. Nice, warm and sunny one minute, then chilly, miserable weather the next, I love Melbourne still, definitely loads to explore and I even have great memories too. Love the people and surrounds ( in the Riverland by the way ) I can look people in the eye, smile and even say hello without getting my head punched in. marvellous. And who wants to shop all the time anyway. unbelievable locations and no one around. you can find a beach and have it all to yourself. Ahhhh the serenity.....
@@georgesince1986 I am in outback region, we drink only rainwater for the taste. Tap water is drinkable but high mineral content, not so nice. I don't know about Adelaide water.
Queensland is by far the best state. I was born in Adelaide 73 years ago, grew up in Melbourne and now I'm growing down in Brisbane. This state has everything. But best of all it has a great climate for oldsters like me and truly friendly locals.
It's interesting listening to this from a foreigners point of view, I have lived in new south Wales my whole life, my friend moved to Tasmania, I have been to Victoria and Canberra for a few school holidays, and I have been to Queensland with my family once, so listening to how others think about it is very interesting
I myself am from NSW but can honestly say that all the states couldve been ranked "best". It honestly depends on what vibe you like. I also have a friend who lives on one of the external territories mentioned at the beginning and he says that life where he lives is not so different from a semi rural lifestyle here on the mainland, except the internet there is crap lol.
You have to be the most knowledgeable American about Australia in the world. I bet a lot of Aussies know less about the country than what you do. However my personal ranking would have SA up higher than ACT and Tasmania but your mixture of pure statistics and anecdotal experience seems pretty justified so I’ll allow it.
Generally I've seen his videos are well researched and thought out rather than dumping any ranking and description from google (which many youtube channels do)
@@georgesince1986 WA is very hot with no humidity and no rain at all during the summer months but QLD is not as hot but has high humidity and lots of rain. Personally I can’t stand humidity so I prefer WA summer over QLD summer.
Happy to live in Perth.The state has so much natural diversity. It is however such a large land area, the majority of the population won’t get to see all of it. The tyranny of distance! I’ve been to all the state capitals, and all of them have are good.

I will say you didn't mention one reason why you might not want to live in Western Australia and that is the flies and mosquitos. I have never once experience more flies and mosquitos ever during my vacations. You have been warned!

You get just as many, if not more mozzies in north QLD, not saying we don't have them bad, coz we do. Flies are really only a problem in the bush. I wouldn't say the flies in Perth are any worse than NSW, SA, QLD, or NT in our Kimberley's and desert regions, yes for sure.
As someone who has lived in Western Australia my entire life, it is a beautiful and safe state. While the flies and mozzies will get bad in rural areas, they are manageable. I’m not going to say Perth is a perfect city, but I love my home state and would suggest any and all people to visit. Western Australia has the amenities of a modern city with the laid-back, nostalgic feeling of a small town. While I’m obviously biased, definitely suggest everyone give us a try!

As someone who has lived in NSW , Queensland and Currently WA I love WA because the city is big enough but not too big, it’s a great state to raise a family and the weather is great. I’ve travelled to each of Australia’s states and territory and honestly each one has pluses and minuses. Australia in general is the best country to live in no matter where you live.

WA is nice, I grew up there but now live in Melbourne. The area of Fremantle has a similar vibe to the entire Melbourne! Arts, music, bars. Perth does offer a lot for its size.

As an Australian that's lived in 5 countries as well as multiple Australian states, that's just simply untrue. The only people who say Australia is the best country in the world to live, are people who haven't lived in many other countries.
South Aussie here! Some of the things you mentioned are definitely part of why I love it here so much! Less traffic, and no matter where you are in Adelaide, you’re always within 15-20 mins of the beach or the hills. There are many beautiful national parks to explore, and stunning beaches. We are also pretty sheltered from most natural disasters here - we don’t get the cyclones or the flooding that they get in other states, but we do get bushfires. And it is so true about everyone knowing each other - or at least having mutual friends 😊
And that's why we're the true number 1.
Should switched SA with VIC and woulda bin more on point. Adelaide has always reminded me of a MUCH smaller version of LA, sandwiched between hills & beaches, Glenelg acting like a mini Venice bch, the sandstone hills along pt.willunga are like the OC, even our airport is similar position as LAX is to the coast.
I moved from Adelaide to Sydney 14 years ago. Adelaide is far ahead for so many reasons.

As a resident of WA I have to say I was shocked that you placed it number one. it gets a bad reputation of being boring when it has in my opinion the most stunning outback and coastline in all of Australia. one thing that does get overlooked is the northern parts of WA because of the south west despite the Nyinggulu (Ningaloo) reef creating a stunning coastline around Exmouth
rottnest island, margaret river with its stunning rainforest, the horizontal waterfall an coral bay.
I used to take foriegn groups on tours of our Pilbara undertaking 14 days. Folks from Europe, South Korea and the U.S. are always stunned at the isolation and distances we'd cover to visit the best places. The infinite quiet silence at night, never experienced in all their lives, can't come away uneffected.

I have been however residing in Melbourne for approx 20 years and I agree, it is a great city with amazing infrastructure. In saying that, I still dream one day of being able to move to Perth. Perhaps some people might recognise that there is a lot of Victoria that is NOT Melbourne. Just as there is a lot of NSW that is not Sydney or a lot of Queensland that is not Brisbane or the Gold Coast.

QLD all day everyday, beautiful one day, perfect the next is spot on. Great laid back people, incredible beaches and tropical and subtropical rainforest areas. In summer it does get hot the further north you go with a killer humidity.
Winter days are ridiculously beautiful (not cold at all), bright coolish and clear, perfect to be outside!

If I were to choose a state to live in in Australia, I'd probably pick Queensland, because I really like tropical weather and rainforests together with breathtaking beaches and turquoise water all around. However, I also find Western Australia a pretty reasonable place to reside in, since it has stunning nature and Perth is considered one of the most liveable cities on earth. And most importantly, it is not that expensive, just like Sydney or Melbourne.
Tropical weather sounds fine...until you spend 3 months of the year sitting in your own ball sweat.
I'd choose a nice old European home in Hobart, Tassie myself... Australian here, However it does get cold down their in winter so perhaps southern NSW. Tropical weather is only good for swimming. But it means you'll get dangerous animals in the water with you..

If you live in an apartment that is surrounded by concreted areas, it will feel hotter. West Aussie here, WA has everything you’d want out of an Australian state, and some. I’m just starting to explore my own backyard, and I’m disappointed I didn’t do it sooner.
Perth is big enough to have a lot of big city amenities, but small enough to feel affordable and friendly. I know it has a reputation amongst some locals as being boring, but it’s really starting to develop a unique identity in recent years.
But WA is more than Perth. You have the very liveable small towns dotted throughout the south west, that are beautiful. Most are a weekend trip from Perth, some being a day trip. There’s also a tonne of natural diversity too, and stunning landscapes the state over, most of it is very well kept secrets, and still maintains its natural beauty without the over-popularity of tourism.

Great thing about Melbourne is if you don't mind being 40 minutes away from the city you can still get reasonable property prices, especially when compared to Sydney. There are many places here that are still affordable and not too far from the city.

Perth is truely a beautiful majestic city. It has the largest inner City Park known as Kings Park which is 60 hectares larger than New Yorks central park. As Australia's third oldest capital city Perth is a vibrant modern City with a modern office towers but at street level, still retains much of its rich heritage. Anyone visiting Perth please visit Fremantle , Kings Park, Rottness, Cottesloe Beach and the Perth CBD. All World class. Thankyou for your awesome video of our beautiful country.

WA also has the best night skies in the world!! You can drive a half hour into the hills from the city and get nice dark skies but even if you want truly dark skies with the majestic Milky Way arching across the sky you can get the darkest rated skies in just a couple of hours. Of course our weather makes seeing the night sky very accessible compared to more cloudy locations in the tropics or further south in places like Tasmania and Victoria.
And particularly spot on is Perth, best city in Oz, can walk across the CBD in 15 minutes, it’s ultra clean, heaps of work, traffic is bearable…., all in all the pick of the litter.
Adelaide South Australia has been voted most livable city in Australia since the beginning of 2022, it was Melbourne, Victoria before that, Adelaide with its green belt is beautiful and a great city to bring up kids.. 🐨👍
i am from the adelaide hills and i havent been to every state but i have been to most and i always call SA the laziest state. like yeah we have pretty beaches but not popular, yeah we have desserts but not as much, we dont have enough people or anything like that its like we are doing the bare minimum to be pretty

I’ve lived and worked in 5 of our nations capital cities. Adelaide is by far my favourite for all of the reasons mentioned. Traffic , people , beaches , central market and ease of getting from place to place. Apart from Perth , the other 3 mainland capitals are left way behind. Unless you want to spend your leisure time shopping. Yesterday we spent nearly 3 hours in traffic to get to the closest sandy ocean facing beach only 60km from our home 😒. Ahhh !!

Talking to Australians everyday at the airport here in the Middle East is something that I enjoy. They're so friendly and don't pick any offence if you ask them, "How was your flight ?" They're very approachable 😊
I don’t think there is a bad state or territory in Oz - so much to see & do and all of them have a lifetime of unique natural beauty and friendly people everywhere. Sometimes Sydney gets a bit of a bum rap from other Aussies in the way New York/LA do in the US - that’s normal. For anyone moving to Australia from overseas I think climate is a massive deal. Queensland - hot sweaty summer but magnificent in winter. Melbourne & Hobart - get a little bleak in Winter. And Sydney, Adelaide and Perth - similar latitudes and probably more rounded climates. Sydney is ridiculously expensive on the housing front so my vote would go for Perth or Adelaide based on the things I like. My favorite regional city in Australia is a Newcastle. Fantastic place.
I think you have to be quite resilient to live in some of the island territories. You could be waiting months for deliveries of essentials, edical services are limited and things like roads and vehicles aren't maintained that well
NT is bad. I wouldn't recommend anyone live there, or even visit. It's closer to an APAC island than a proper Australian city.
I live in the Northern Territory but I love Western Australia and I agree with it being underrated, they've got the Kimberly's to the far north with stunning views, then you have the great Sandy Desert in the interior, the wheat belt past the Pilbara region, Kalgoorlie/Boulder a mining town towards the start of Nullarbor plain which stretches across to South Australia then you have the magnificent coastline in the south west corner but it does contain a lot of sharks and it's also home to the pink lake called "Lake Hillier"

Like many people have said in the comments, all states could be ranked the best depending on what you're looking for... but WA just has something truly special about it. It's so huge and vast, and there is so much to see, from deserts to historic mining towns, to jaw-dropping national parks and incredible beaches. Seriously, this state is so underrated! Also the city of Perth is one of my favourite cities on Earth, as it is the perfect size, bustling with energy but not as overcrowded as other capitals, and the majority of people here are so friendly! Damn I love this place

I’ve lived in the NT and Queensland and also visited Norfolk Island. Depending on the skills and qualifications you bring any State or Territory in Australia is a great place to live. The sense of wide open space is incredible. If you’re in the outback don’t forget to look up at night, the Milky Way is unreal !

I love the NT. Spent 6 months there and seriously fell in love with it. Minus the huge amount of homeless, theft, and stores closing at like 5pm every day. My time there was awesome
as someone who lives in Adelaide i would like to point out, it seems we don't have a ton but we have many events they just dont receive alot of notice but they are really good events and are often really fun and sometimes educational but in a fun way!
One thing to mention for Victoria is the sport culture, every year the afl grand final draws 100,000 people to the MCG we also have an amazing sport precinct including AAMI park, the tennis center and other stadiums.
Sport in Victoria is not just great because the AFL presence is huge, it’s also got a nice mix of everything and is a globally recognised sport city. Something that I reckon should factor with the rankings for sure

Perth in Western Australia doesn't have toll roads, and the traffic is generally low, making it a great place to live. The city has a thriving mining industry that provides high-paying jobs, and on top of that, it gets sunshine for 80% of the year.

If you like ridiculously hot temperatures it's the place for you.
I recall a year of 13 consecutive days of temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit - it's what the marketing guys euphemistically call " lots of sunny days". WA is too parochial, too far away from Australia's major transport corridors and most critically too tainted by crony capitalism. It''s also the home of some of the weirdest crime in Australia. The other thing I struggled with was the scorching hot, grey lifeless sand that most of Perth is built on. Water security is also a worry for Perth. Apart from that it's pkay but it isn't the best State. That would have to be Queensland. This documentary conflates W.A with Perth. Perth is one thing but most of WA is quite something else - dry, arid and uninhabitable.

Glad they mentioned the low crime of SA as this is so true. I've lost my bag or purse on 3 or 4 occasions in the city or suburbs and I always get it back with all the money and cards still in it. People drive out of their way to return it home to me (Im usually not contactable by phone and maybe people do not trust the police as much as returning something to it's owner themselves as interestingly no one has ever handed it over to the police). I don't even bother cancelling out my bankcards when I loose it.

I lost my wallet in Adelaide and I'm from Western Australia I would have been in huge trouble because I was only going to be there for a couple of days. I went to one of the shops I was at and asked if it had been handed in and sure enough, it had. I love South Australia. :)

Raised in Victoria moved to Western Australia when I had my first child. Best thing I ever did. Have travelled all around Australia in a caravan loved Northern Territory but Perth will always be home, can’t beat it.

I moved to Tasmania from Sydney 10 years ago. I have never looked back. It is the smartest move I have ever made. As far as I am concerned Tasmania is number 1 with daylight 2nd and far behind.
I like Perth and WA being the quiet hidden gem, now the secret is out I'm proud to be a West Aussie as our lifestyle is hard to beat here.
Good to see ACT ranked up there, I go to uni there and I do think it's underrated. And having done a big road trip through WA I really can't argue with that, absolutely loved it!

I've been travelling throughout Western Australia for the last two years and there's still so much to see! It's got a bit of everything :)
Stunned that WA came in at No.1. I've lived here for most of my life and we constantly get put down by people who don't live here. It really is a fantastic place to live
As a full time traveler in Australia I agree that each state has so many amazing and diverse places to see, but what makes this country truly the best place on earth are the people.
As a Perth resident, we do have a lot of fun stuff happen at night but Fremantle is probably one of the busiest places overtaking the city. Kings Park is the real treasure as there are so many wildflowers there and in a lot of our bushland. Plus there are some amazing places to stop for drinks and we have a bridge you can zipline off. Pretty fun here.
I love kings park. My go-to date spot. It really is beautiful at day or at night.

As a South Australian, I object to the focus on Adelaide and surrounds. If you are a true traveller, there is outback SA, the west coast of SA and lots of beaches one can have to oneself, experiences like whale watching at the head of the bight, swimming with sharks, seals or giant cuttlefish on Eyre Peninsula, great surfing breaks, lots of great hikes. Not to forget the bottom end of Yorke Peninsular and Fleurieu Peninsular with spectacular beaches and views. Kangaroo Island is another spectacular place. I recognise that a major problem is the driving it takes to find these things. However, all worth the effort if you have more time. Come on over.

Unfortunately NSW is in the thrall of the road building lobby and that won't change until NSW governments stop building toll roads. Toll road companies want to see the continuance of the rivers of cash that toll roads bring. Sydney has the most tolled roads of any city on earth.
Sydney actually removed its trams to allow more space on the road for cars; that's worked out really well - not.

One thing I like about Victoria is that being rural is not a big disadvantage here. Most of the state has a good climate and the distances are smaller meaning anyone of us can get access to the facilities of a large city ( Melbourne) when we need them but don't have to have the disadvantages of that same large city when we don't. As the climate is generally good properties tend to be smaller meaning that even being truly rural isn't a big problem. There are 12 different towns within pushbike riding distance of where I live. One of which is a significant city of over 30000 people. You CAN have your cake and eat it too where I am. Oh yes, without ever having had a high income I own three houses. One of them has a farm and another has a one acre backyard.

Hi First of all, not an Aussie, however I do genuinely love Australia, Got the chance to visit twice in my life, but definitely planning to visit again, I would love to live there but it is getting harder by the day if you do not meet the Australian criteria, definitely one of the best places to live in the world. I do agree 100% with your pick, and yeah Melbourne can have four seasons in a day. Nice, warm and sunny one minute, then chilly, miserable weather the next, I love Melbourne still, definitely loads to explore and I even have great memories too. Especially of Eureka Skydeck 88, loved it

And who wants to shop all the time anyway. unbelievable locations and no one around. you can find a beach and have it all to yourself. Ahhhh the serenity.....

@@georgesince1986 I am in outback region, we drink only rainwater for the taste. Tap water is drinkable but high mineral content, not so nice. I don't know about Adelaide water.

Queensland is by far the best state. I was born in Adelaide 73 years ago, grew up in Melbourne and now I'm growing down in Brisbane. This state has everything. But best of all it has a great climate for oldsters like me and truly friendly locals.

It's interesting listening to this from a foreigners point of view, I have lived in new south Wales my whole life, my friend moved to Tasmania, I have been to Victoria and Canberra for a few school holidays, and I have been to Queensland with my family once, so listening to how others think about it is very interesting

I myself am from NSW but can honestly say that all the states couldve been ranked "best". It honestly depends on what vibe you like. I also have a friend who lives on one of the external territories mentioned at the beginning and he says that life where he lives is not so different from a semi rural lifestyle here on the mainland, except the internet there is crap lol.

You have to be the most knowledgeable American about Australia in the world. I bet a lot of Aussies know less about the country than what you do.
However my personal ranking would have SA up higher than ACT and Tasmania but your mixture of pure statistics and anecdotal experience seems pretty justified so I’ll allow it.
Generally I've seen his videos are well researched and thought out rather than dumping any ranking and description from google (which many youtube channels do)
The stats are incorrect, he got population wrong, median house price wrong etc etc.
I used to live in Western Australia for 6 years and have recently moved to Brisbane and I can agree WA is much better
I lived in WA for a few years and recently moved to Brisbane as well but I have to disagree I enjoy QLD a lot more.

@@georgesince1986 WA is very hot with no humidity and no rain at all during the summer months but QLD is not as hot but has high humidity and lots of rain. Personally I can’t stand humidity so I prefer WA summer over QLD summer.
Happy to live in Perth.The state has so much natural diversity. It is however such a large land area, the majority of the population won’t get to see all of it. The tyranny of distance! I’ve been to all the state capitals, and all of them have are good.
this is the biggest W for western australia, im from there and its amazing. my favourite part about it is by far the beaches, so many, and all of them are incredible!
One of your complaints about Queensland was the housing market but that is caused from people on mass moving out of other states into qld.
I will say you didn't mention one reason why you might not want to live in Western Australia and that is the flies and mosquitos. I have never once experience more flies and mosquitos ever during my vacations. You have been warned!

You get just as many, if not more mozzies in north QLD, not saying we don't have them bad, coz we do. Flies are really only a problem in the bush. I wouldn't say the flies in Perth are any worse than NSW, SA, QLD, or NT in our Kimberley's and desert regions, yes for sure.
As someone who has lived in Western Australia my entire life, it is a beautiful and safe state. While the flies and mozzies will get bad in rural areas, they are manageable.
I’m not going to say Perth is a perfect city, but I love my home state and would suggest any and all people to visit. Western Australia has the amenities of a modern city with the laid-back, nostalgic feeling of a small town.
While I’m obviously biased, definitely suggest everyone give us a try!
Depends where you live in WA. It's a huge state. Flys and mozzies are no worse than the east coast if you live in the south of the state
