  • My husband installed heated grips on my Indian Scout and I had a request for a video from some members of a Facebook group.
This is not an install video! This is a description of the install along with a few tips. Had I known it was difficult to find videos of the actual installation I would have recorded the work while it was being performed.
A couple of after thoughts. First, the manufacturer’s instructions call for running the wires first and leaving enough slack at the left grip to hang the grip over the clutch lever so you can turn the heated grip on when it comes time to glue the grip into the bar. We didn’t do that because there was not enough slack in the wires. What we did was run the wires and attach the control module to the battery so we could still turn on and heat up the grip. We then glued the grip into place and went back to snug up & zip tied all the wires. In hindsight I think the reason there wasn’t enough slack may be because I have reduced reach bars and they’re rotated down quite a bit. So if you have the stock bars there may be enough slack to follow the directions as written.
Also, we used a different adhesive which is detailed in the video.
Finally, I did not attach the wires to the handlebars but instead zip tied them to the existing wiring along the bars. I felt it would have looked silly zip-tied to the bars.
The whole thing took about 90 minutes but you can easily do it in under an hour. We were just very particular about following the manufactures directions. There’s a video (I’ll look for it and try to post a link in the comments) about how to replace the air filter which I used to help me remove the tank. It’s worth a watch.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
