I forgot the name of his kind, but they are more powerful than humans in everyway. Humans then much much later find him buried in mars(In the Milky Way galaxy). Where Hell tried to hide him from being discovered by anyone or anything. The only problem is that I guess the demons didnt expect humanity to be as advanced as we had become (space travel). Demons/Hell itself are like Doom guy. Meaning they also come from a different Dimension and are extremely warlike and go from Dimension to Dimension killing and assimilating everyone and everything they think will make them stronger.
That is the official lore of Doom fyi. Not my made up interpretation.

I'm pretty sure the Wretch in that testament is Samur Maykr, who is responsible for spiriting away The Father and arming the Slayer with the divinity machine and Praetor suit. The demons fear the Slayer but respect him. They have nothing but hate and comtempt for Hayden.

The Doom Slayer sounds like an ancient primordial evil that would destroy everything its path if released. Sounds boring for a villain story, very basic. But then you realize, you are the Doom Slayer. You are the primordial evil. And that's bad ass.

He didn't say that the voice was Satan's. Just that Satan didn't seem so bad compared to the Doom Slayer. As for the voice, I think it might be Abigor from the guidebook of the Wolfenstein 3D mission pack The Ultimate Challenge. Why? Because Wolfenstein and Doom share a universe, Abigor also made a deal with humans, and he is described in the guidebook as having "a deep, unearthly voice".

The Doom Slayer was the leader of the protectors of a land known as Argent D'Nur, until he betrayes them in exchange for the resurrection of his dead son, who ended up being brought back as the icon of sin. The land would then be consumed and became Hell's energy resource for traversing across dimensions. Enraged by the destruction of Argent D'Nur and the betrayal of the Devil, the Doom Slayer nearly tore all of Hell down as he defeated countless waves of demons (even defeating Hell's most powerful champion, the Titan) his advanced Praetor Suit being enhanced by a demon known only as a "wretch". After unknown eons, the Doom Slayer was sealed away in an enchanted sarcophagus until he was collected by UAC Mars Director Dr. Samuel Hayden, keeping him sealed in his private labs as they reverse-engineered his equipment.

Funny Valentine it’s not confirmed that Doom Slayer is native to Argent. We DO know that he has traveled between worlds and dimensions. In fact, it’s not known if he was the betrayer or not (I personally doubt it, considering how it seems to be implied he is older than the battle of Argent, as the stone carvings of the battle show Doom Slayer already wearing the Praetor Suit).

This was the moment the game stepped over from being a highly playable shooter to one of my fav fpses ever.
My favorite thing about doom is that if you want story you can get a really in-depth story, if you want a game where you just commit mindless Mass genocide of demons then you can get that as well just don't do all the side stuff just continue on with the main objective and if it moves kill it if it doesn't move but it looks like a creature maybe shoot it and see if it reacts to being shot and if it does kill it. Also arguably one of the best tutorials ever for any FPS that I've played at least, basically just boils down to here have a pistol you see those things that move shoot them oh also here have a shotgun this will make your life slightly easier.

The age of his reckoning was uncounted. The scribes carved his name deep in the tablets of Hell across eons, and each battle etched terror in the hearts of the demons. They knew he would come, as he always had, as he always will, to feast on the blood of the wicked. For he alone could draw strength from his fallen foes, and ever his power grew, swift and unrelenting.
None could stand before the horde but the Doom Slayer. Despair spread before him like a plague, striking fear into the shadow-dwellers, driving them to deeper and darker pits. But from the depths of the abyss rose The Great One, a champion mightier than all who had come before. The Titan, of immeasurable power and ferocity. He strode upon the plain and faced the Doom Slayer, and a mighty battle was fought on the desolate plains. The Titan fought with the fury of the countless that had fallen at the Doom Slayer's hand, but there fell the Titan, and in his defeat the shadow horde were routed.
And in his terrible rancor between worlds and through time, the Hell Walker found the wretch who shall not be named, but in his heresy was loyal to his evil cause. The wretch adorned the Doom Slayer in a mighty armor, wrought in the forges of Hell, impenetrable and unyielding. With sword and shield of adamantine strength, the Doom Slayer set to banishing all that were left unbroken by his savagery to the void.
Yet as the mighty Titan fell and dread engulfed the armies of Doom, the demon priests of the Blood Temples laid a trap to capture this scourge of Hell. Insatiable, even by the vanquishing of the Great One, the Hell Walker sought prey in the tombs of the Blood Keep. And blinded by his fervor, the lure drew him in. The priests brought down the temple upon the Doom Slayer, and in his defeat entombed him in the cursed sarcophagus. The mark of the Doom Slayer was burned upon his crypt, a warning to all of Hell that the terror within must never be freed. There he lies still, and ever more, in silent suffering.

The way these testaments were laid out makes me think that Hell has like a tourist attraction and at the very end of the walking trail they had Doom Slayer's tomb right next to a gift shop with all the little collectable toys you get in the game.

Not in a nutshell, that is the literal (literal) explanation for how glory kills work. It's completely canonical to the lore that the Doom Slayer spontaneously heals after killing a foe with his bare hands, and that is reflected in gameplay.

I always found this line to be interesting. When I first heard it, it made me think "Oh, so the slayer was probably in pain while he was in the sarcophagus. In a way, the demons didn't just contain the threat, they got a cherry on top." But then later I realized that no, the slayer wasn't in actual pain. The simple act of being *restrained* was his suffering. The way the demons view it, the slayer kills demons like people breathe; to him, it's a *necessity* - his default state of being - so simply keeping the slayer restrained and unable to commit demon genocide is the equivalent of choking or drowning a regular person.
Well, its less like breathing and drowning, its more like he is just so angry he hurts himself when he isnt killing demons. And it isnt his default being, he is just anger.

Nothing in gaming will ever be more badass than the realisation that this long and drawn out myth wrote by the demons of a demon slaying warrior so powerful that he brought hell to it's knees is that you, the player character, are the nebulous monster that they're shit scared of.
Makes those later levels in hell where Demons get utterly assblasted by your fully upgraded arsenal so much more satisfying when between combat encounters there's these little lore tidbits stating how much they're utterly fucking terrified of you.
But the best part is the fact that even without those tidbits, you’d still get that impression anyway!
yeah, during glory kills, some demons look at you or what youre doing with utter horror!

This line is probably the most terrifying. The idea that the only thing capable of making the Slayer suffer is a halt to his carnage is horrifying. No line builds up his rage and desperation more than this one

Aight so listen up. In Doom 2016, one of the power ups you can get is Berserker, which guves you something like 4x strength, and causes you too use your fists only. This means that Doom Guy is most likely calm throughout the entirety of this damn game. That's fucking scary

"In his ravenous hatred, he found no peace"= It's said in the manuals (Doom 64) that he had PTSD after Doom 1 and 2.
"And with boiling blood he scoured the Umbral Plains Seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him" = the Slayer knew the demons were responsible for Daisy's death and he killed the second Spider Mastermind in revenge (Doom 1 chapter 4: thy flesh consumed)

Just note that health and death mechanics only exist for the sake of gameplay. Lore-wise, the demons probably couldn't even touch him without losing their own body parts in the process. PS, according to lore, Glory-kills replenish his stamina so he doesn't tire. Not exactly the same as health.
It says in the testament that he drew strength from every foe he killed. So nah, it's more than just vidya game nonsense. Every mechanic is diagetic.

The reason the Praetor suit is covered in a variety of human marks and displays English text is probably because the UAC tried experimenting with it after its recovery, thus adding in new features of their own.
I believe that there's a multiverse in the DOOM lore and the Slayer's origins lies in one of them. Maybe all that shit about his armor being forged in Hell and stuff are just myths the demons created to explain something that they couldn't understand (or at least part of those stories). He has been the scourge of Hell for so long that nobody knows who he actually is and where he came from.
