      I converted my 1976 MG Midget to electronic ignition in the early 80's and it worked flawlessly for the next 15 years then I sold the car. I bet it's still working. I have had my points on the Jubilee go out too many times now so it was time for an upgrade. Thanks for the comment Buddy!

    I`m getting this , No more replacing , filing points and no more walking up the hill ( which is the only time it quits running, Great video quality and the video was not 1/2 hour of talk . Thanks !

    It was your excellent vids on the overhaul that made me decide to do it myself. I had an old Ford 640 and restored it. I had a blast but I couldn't have done it with out your detailed teardown vids on the "Old 27"! Thanks!

      Do you need to convert to negative ground? Or 12v?

  • @zx8401ztv
    @zx8401ztv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's a clean conversion, and it does not damage anything, so you could go back to points at any time :-D, just chuck all the bits in a plastic bag, you never know lol.
    That whole assembly looks brand new, i'm supprised if you had trouble with rough running.
    My mate has a morris minor 1000, i went to check the points one day and... oww it's been upgraded lol, same idea as yours, very reliable :-D.

      The problems all started with the old distributor. I mentioned the distributor was new and since I was updating the distributor I figured it was good time to bring the old iron into the 21st century.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching!

    How has the electronic ignition held out for you? I switched over to electronic ignition on my Jubilee in December of 2017. I installed the Petronix 1244A electronic ignition, and I also installed the recommended coil. The system has worked flawlessly until today and now my tractor won't fire. Just wondering how it has gone with your switch to electronic ignition. Thanks!

    1:27 what is that little thing sticking out of the side of the distributor with the metal cap on it? Almost looks like you would put some lubrication in there, what’s that for?

    Excellent video.... I just ordered an electronic system from TISCO... 12V neg. ground... My Jubilee has a "covered" resistance wire from the ignition to the + side of the coil... Can I leave it ?? should it be replaced with a non-resistance wire.. I read in one of your posts below... resistor not needed due to no points....

    Is your tractor already been converted to 12 Volts?

  • @DaveofAllTrades75
    @DaveofAllTrades75 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wish some one would make a video on a original 8n or jubilee tractor conversion *sigh* , I have a 53 and a 54 and both still use original generator 6 volt positive ground system they sell a conversion for 6 volt for anyone wanting to know the part number for Pertronix 6 volt is 1244AP6 also available on amazon but for some reason costs more of course lol. I would think the conversion would be similar but it has 2 black wires not 1 red and 1 white like the 12 volt one in this video and just curious how one would hook it up properly with 2 same color wires.
    For what it costs ( $106 on amazon ) i can rebuilt points about 20x over lol and on my 53 i have changed the points maybe twice in 40 years of use so i don't see a problem i can't justify the conversion cost for something that seems to work perfectly fine when tractor is maintained properly and costs me a few dollars for distributor kit from New Holland, They also boast higher hp and performance with eletronic ignitor but i mean come on it is a 53 with i believe 45hp lol how much can you really gain honestly and would you even notice the difference? To me it would be hard to jusify wasting 106 bucks on something that is so easy to replace points that work fine and are so cheap to replace.

      I just bought the 6v kit for '52 8n. The instructions say the black/white wire goes to the negative side of the coil and the all black wire goes to the ignition switch wire.

    Hi there- just watched the video on the ignition. My father in law just bought an tractor where the previous owner installed the ignition incorrectly. This video is perfect to help fix. However, could you please show the wires running from the battery to the coil? I believe he removed a wire he shouldn't have, and also I've been informed its a positive ground tractor. Is yours the same?

    Do you have a ballast resistor between your coil and battery? I have an 8n, front distributor, that I converted to 12v. Switched to 12v coil and 12v Igniter. It ran great for a couple years, but I accidentally left the key on for a few minutes without it running, and I burned everything up! Sees like I read somewhere you need a .6 Ohm resistor, but I don't know. I know I would, of course, if I were using the old 6v coil, but I'm not. Just trying to figure out if a .6 Ohm resistor would prevent another $100 mistake!!

    • @edzgarage
      @edzgarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, you need a ballast resistor in your "points" system. I don't need one in this electronic system since there's no points to make a constant connection to battery.

    • @wolfmanrebel874
      @wolfmanrebel874 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely same happened with mine, I had to shave some plastic off the dust cover and top of magnet sleeve it's highly frustrating the cap won't fit without the dust cover and the dust cover touches the magnet on my NAA/600

      Have the distributor cap off & clear of the rotor.
      With the starter button, crank over the motor.
      Watch the rotation of the rotor, if CW it is CW.

    Don't buy these. I have had two. the first failed after two years. When I went to install the second I discovered that the dist cap post for the number 3 cylinder had never seen a spark. The second failed after a year. At 90+ dollars a pop...not worth it.

      I have had mixed results similar to the both of you, MF234 great no problem but I sold the tractor after 3 years , ford NAA used for plowing,finish mowing 8 acres every 2 weeks and driveway maintenance multiple issues to the point I'm going back to points next time I'm giving up, an old ford generator no problems 6 years , 1010john Deere verdict still out just got second one after a year and half of bush hogging and many various boom pole tasks. I had one rigged up on a 4cyl mercury that I could forget about it never had any issues again.....for NAA is pissing me off though I love that tractor but the pertronix kit just ain't right for that thing , this is why I watched this video to see if this guy is doing anything I'm not..nope same ways just a picky ol ford set in her ways I guess

      @KM I'm officially done with them myself, my buddyloves them on his and here's the difference I think..he uses his tractors for little 20 min spurts of something here and there , I work the hound out of mine and one set of points out last these things, in reference to my above post where I say verdict is still out on the JD1010..yeah I'm back to points on it.
