Thanks for the info!
Any time!
The reason this is such a game changer is just simply moving the files to a project on a larger device. Getting files off the phone on windows was a nightmare before.
You got that right!
That was a great idea! 💡
Glad you think so!
Can you record right to hard drive in lower res settings too or just prores 4k? Just as a large storage for even reg 4k or 1440 the ssd is great along with the way faster transfer of footage to computer
I don't think you can. ProRes triggers the SSD to activate
Nice set up. Literally just got the T7 SSD. Was looking at cables now though. Which one do you have or recommend for fast data transfer? I saw that Afterplug short USB4 cable which looks like the one you might have, or the thunderbolt 3 by apple. Let me know your thoughts when you get a chance. Thanks for making the video!
Any 3.2USB with 20Gbps is more than enough. I posted a video today about my ProRes Vlogging setup which uses the same cable i have in this video. You can also use the link in my description for the cable.
here is the new video: th-cam.com/video/oF15WxZEVHU/w-d-xo.html
@@garrick_ish thanks for the advice. I just got the 15 pro max and am new at this. I appreciate the help and guidance. I’ll check that other video out 👊
@Strigity, I got mine a few weeks ago and still learning how to use it as well!
I would go for an angled usb-c cable
mind... blown!
Went to Amazon and bought it all! 🙏
Nice! 👍
hey i like your table top cover, it is so velvet black, where you get it?
@unsortedspace got it from Amazon. Here is the link! amzn.to/3MRwfQp
Cheers!
@@garrick_ish cool
@@garrick_ish I have the T7 SSD, not sure how can I use it on my DSLR, I saw other using it.
Does your DSLR have an output capabilities?
Looks clean. Apple should just add SDCARD support, or the speeds are not enough?
Speeds not enough as you said
Its about 1GB every 6 seconds of video in 4k prores 60
Is there a link to the little cable? Looks sturdy
Great video
Yes! Here it is!
amzn.to/3ZRjmek
@@garrick_ish appreciate it, thank you
You are welcome!
Why do you need the metal plate? Shouldn’t the adhesive magsafe ring stick to the phone by itself?
Great question. The short USB-C wire is a bit thick which makes it harder to bend. It causes the SSD with the MagSafe ring to pop off the MagSafe. There have been other videos on TH-cam showing the same issue. I solved the issue by using the magnetic plate. I hope this helps!
My phone doesn't stick well with the plate on, was hoping to get a strong grip. Any advice?
Hi, silly question … does the ring needs to be in the middle of the phone? Or it will work at the bottom of the phone as well? I have an nd filter for the camera and it is too hevy on the top for gimbal. Just looking for ssd to place on the other side trying to help gimbal to work … if it makes sense 😅
You can place the ring anywhere you want to make it work with your setup. Let me know if it works!
Where do u get the white circle
iphonedo showed the idea of this setup last month. i bet more custom products will come out with this idea.
Tbh I tried this and everything’s cool except the sticky rings you recommended are not strong enough to hold the ssd firmly.
@aviator_Walker are you using the same SSD?
i have the 15 pro max and i got the prores and i even shoot in 1080 because when i record with my SSD samsum T7 i try to watch the video on my computer i can only listen to the audio the video its all black and shows a messege of codec error not support and thats not even in 4K can somebody helpr please?
Have you tried updating or possibly downloading a new program? VLC? Are you on PC or MAC? You shouldn’t have a problem with using a MAC
Just bought the 15 Pro Max. Gonna wait till November to get it. Look, these vids are darn good. I didn’t know enough to even ask questions. Comment - Was in Apple Store. The sample phones (some) tethered to the security bar were DARN HOT. That troubled me. Q? What phone “jacket” or “case” emits heat the fastest? The slowest? -- Called Apple. There IS NO spec on, say, “BTU per square inch per hour” to some room at 72F. Is there?
@handle1969 - I honestly don't think there is a specific case that can emit heat the quickest. Most cases are designed to protect the phone. I havent seen a case with a heat shield or Heatsink thermal pad. To your last question, i don't think are any specs on the BTU per square inch /hour. So far, i have yet to have my phone overheat but it got warm a few times when recording a video for a long period of time.. I hope this helps!
What if you didn’t use the case? Is the iPhone strong enough to hold all that itself?
I will try in a few days and will let you know
Do you need the metal base?
Only if your MagSafe case has weak magnets. Check out my MagBak SSD review! th-cam.com/video/hmOap97ZrVg/w-d-xo.html
does that interfere with putting lenses on?
You can slide the SSD down a bit to use a lens.
You motherfucking evil genius, Garrick. Thank you for this!!!!!
Glad I could help!
Can i use Samsung T7 sheild ssd on my iphone 15 pro?
It should work!
@@garrick_ishbut i am confused that if i put magnet sticker in t7 Sheild to stick with my iPhone 15 pro,
can it hold the sticker ?
Works perfectly fine! The magnet rings sticks on to the T7 no problem. I went on vacation to Hawaii and recorded my whole trip using the Pro Res Log and the SSD had no issues whats so ever.
@@garrick_ish T7 or T7 sheild? I am asking about T7 sheild.
@muhtasinkhan It will work with Both T7 and T7 Shield!
Hagibis Magnetic M.2 2230 NVMe SSD
Will ring work with t7 rigged SSD
I don't know. The ring will not be on the SSD fully and there is a high chance that the ring will come off or stick to the phone.
@@garrick_ish I mean can do same setup like what you did with this type of t7 shield th-cam.com/video/WUZie4bda-E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FIxft5sOEJrOivsq
Sure... until all the giggling of the cable messes up the port. Next thing you know, you have a failing port that won't charge/transfer data, unless you bend it at a specific angle and don't move it at all! Been, there, done that, had regretted after trying different setups and understanding it's just *NOT A GOOD IDEA*
That might be the case but if you think about it, are we really recording in Pro Res 24/7? Probably not.
@@garrick_ish Exactly, that's my point. It isn't worth messing up your port just to save a few mins transferring to a computer. I broke countless ports, trying to add more juice and storage space with slim external solutions.
I realized it's easier, realistic... and even more cost effective to actually have TWO devices. That increases your storage and battery size, and even lifespan because one of the devices is at rest at any given time.
Nice vid.
@@MainADMlNWhat type of port broke? I've never had any USB C port break since it's such a simple port with no moving parts. Compaire to lightning port and cables. They break so easily, one drop of water on the cable or 1 pin bends and the port is useless.
You sound like a clumsy guy who's bitter that somehow you break things that literally billions of people use every single day.
@@RastaHenkie The last three ports that broke were 2 type C, from Xperias and one type C from a Pixel 4 XL.
why not just use a 180 degree usb connector with 3.1 speed instead of cable? ;)
I actually have that set up with my gimbal. But that loop with the cable works really well when holding it
It just doesn't work. The rings will attach to the phone without issue, but adding the metal disk destroys it. The hard drive will not stick to the phone with the metal disc attached to the back of the phone.
@JohnWittNY - My apologies. I had the wrong set of rings. I have updated my link with the correct rings. These are the rings that I used: amzn.to/3Q1Kjri
Those are the same rings. When I click on that new link, it takes me to the product page, showing that's what I already purchased.@@garrick_ish
@JohnWittNY - Which SSD are you using, and which case are you using? This set up with out the metal plate will not work unless you use a case with super strong magnets. MagBak Cases worked, you can check out this video I released recently: th-cam.com/video/hmOap97ZrVg/w-d-xo.html
I hope that helops!
I'm using the Apple Fine Woven case and my Samsung T7 sticks fine with just the adhesive ring. When I add the metal disk it sticks on fine but the ring will not stick to the disk at all. @@garrick_ish
That's weird.
something tells me that SSDs and Magnets in combo is a bad idea. Video is good!
We shall see! Thanks!
HHDs are vulnerable to magnets
not ssd though@@cryomancer20
@@cryomancer20 SSDs have no moving parts so magnets should be fine.
The iPhone already has SSD storage right next to all of its mag safe stuff. And that hasn’t seen any issues.
I have a even easier way. I use a GoPro.
