@ALJ Studios He chilled out in the last 5 years of his life. The guy had a hard childhood and a lot of built up anger, during his youth and up until his early 30s Lennon was a total jerk but when he came back to Yoko in the mid 70's after his "long weekend" in L.A. (which was actually a couple of years of separation for the two) he had kicked his heroin addiction and really softened up and became dedicated to taking care of Sean and reconnecting with Julian. Unfortunately a lunatic murdered him right when he was becoming his best as a human being in December of 1980.
@@goonsquadxbl1836 well yeah, he really did. (Cynthia not Yoko) But he took responsibility, kicked his drug habit, and grew past that abusive behavior. That's all those of us who have fucked up royally can do. Be and do better ongoing.
I was in my late teens when this song came out. I was, like so many teens, convinced that my views were correct and set in stone. I hated this song! I thought it was sacrilegious, unpatriotic, etc. Oh my!!! Now, at 73, with life experience, a much larger world view, and a better understanding of gray areas and nuances...I love this song. It's brilliant and I could listen to it over and over. Am I sad that none of the sentiments expressed have, for the most part, become reality? And that John was murdered by a mad man? Yes. But the song still fills me with hope and joy. "You may think I'm a dreamer..."
Mary, I was 14 when this song came out. We had a "hippy" nun at my school, Sister Paulette, who was into Simon and Garfunkel, etc. I think she first got me thinking about lyrics in a serious way. Oddly, this particular song never made it into her repertoire. I think this song was my first real introduction to a more worldly and non-sectarian outlook about "peace and love."
@@robertgieseler1220 Sister Paulette mimeographed folk lyrics (James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, etc.) and handed them out to students (I was in 4th grade), hoping to discuss them. She sang, played and led some Catholic Masses in singing songs from "Godspell," etc. I wonder if the more traditional nuns in her group were freaked by her. "Imagine" may have been a step too far.
My parents raised me on the Beatles (I'm 47) they're both passed now, but every time I watch new people finding and loving The Beatles (and their single stuff) and I feel them with me when I watch you all and smile. THANK you for that.
I'm 43 and I was raised on The Beatles and came to really love them on my own in my early teens. To this day they are my favorite band and John Lennon is my very favorite voice. My 11 year old has really started to discover them over the past year and a half. It's amazing to see just how timeless their music really is. 60 years later and kids are still finding them relevant.
I’m 73 years old now I remember having to leave work because I was so devastated when John Lennon was killed.I remember bursting into tears in restaurants if they played beautiful boy or any of the songs from double fantasy. I still morn John Lennon
Yes, you'll love that song, with 'Woman' John encapsulated his love for Yoko, but it also has a universal message of appreciation for all women. 'Woman' was always planned to be the second single off (what was his last recorded album) 'Double fantasy', sadly the song was released posthumously, after John's murder. The added tragedy is John was probably the most settled and happy he'd been in his whole life, and I think he would have continued to be a successful solo performer. He had plans to do a world tour the following year, and was looking forward to meeting up again with old friends and family back in the UK. It's very likely he would eventually have collaborated again with each member of The Beatles, even if not necessarily all together as a full band. Such an enormous loss of a great talent.
This is fast becoming one of my favorite channels. Lennon was a man before his time and this is his ode to peace and unity and how the common man is hungry for it. You would need a heart of stone not to be moved or touched by this song. BUT, can we just talk about Jay and Amber? What great, beautiful souls these people are. I know they are in to it when Amber is swaying with closed eyes and Jay is rocking out the beat with his head. The world needs more Lennons...and Jay and Ambers. As Lennon would have said, Love and peace. x .
His message is as real & relevant today as the day he wrote it. Pentatonix does a stunning version of this song that is very poignant and heartfelt. Brings a tear every time I hear it.
Imagine if the entire world population were like this and if we could all completely love and trust each other. It would be almost be like heaven on earth. Sure, you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one....
Forrest Gump was great that way.. such a very different movie, but I loved it. I lost it when he said "I'm not a smart man Jenny, but I know what love is"... and above all else, he never fell out of love with Jenny.
I wonder if Jordan knows that his catch phrase "I'm Shook" is probably a variation of "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley? Perhaps a future reaction video...
Beatle’s songs I love: Get Back; Norwegian Wood; Revolution; A Day In The Life; Come Together; Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds; Let it Be, and Eleanor Rigby. So much variety and goodness! I hope you hit even half of them!
@@65motowngirl I wasn’t talking about John. I was doing as everyone does and giving them songs to consider...by the Beatles. I’ve been alive a long time, sonI know the difference.
'Woman' and 'Jealous Guy's are just a couple of the great solo songs he did. One of the things that make the Beatles so great is not just their catelog of songs but the individual catelogs of John, Paul and George. Collectively its mind blowing!!
I can remember the day and time and even where I was standing in the room when I heard on the news that he was murdered. I don’t get real sad over celebrities deaths but his got to me. So senseless. He had a heart of gold. Him and Yoko were so in love. I felt bad what she was put through for loving him
I was only 8 but I knew who he was from my mom constantly playing The Beatles. I remember coming home from school the next day to find my mom crying and listening to The Beatles. So very sad.
I was 14 and I loved the Beatles. I had all their albums. My birthday was a couple weeks before his murder and my mom gave me John’s newest albumn. I’d been listening to it every day. I wished so much that the Beatles would get back together so I could see them in concert. I heard he died on the radio in the morning while I was getting ready for school. It was like sucker punch to the stomach, like the world would never be right again.
I remember my parents were in dispair. I was only 4 when it happened. I remember being in the hallway and my mother came out crying, from the living room.
I was watching the London Olympics.. and John's face came on the big screen.. and i .. just started crying.. cos I knew, they gonna play the most iconic song in the world, ever.. and sure enough, they played that song.
Do you know that the song was recorded 50 years ago and is still relevant in today’s world? Our society has been through a lot in those years. Now, as much as ever, we still need the unity
I've been a lifelong Metalhead, but I've always had a soft spot for this song. It's beautiful sounding, the piano is somehow haunting yet joyful, and the lyrics.. he's basically just saying 'imagine if all the things that divide us weren't there', in a wa;y that's simultaneously poetic yet easy to understand. Simple AND powerful. As well, it's not a huge long ballad like some might have made for a topic like this, he doesn't repeat himself or drag it out.. it's short, sweet, and to the point.
When this song came out it was at the end of such a turbulent decade - the Vietnam War, Watergate, in Canada there was the FLQ crisis of bombings and political murder in Quebec, it all felt so dark... and then when this came out it was a beacon of hope and light. Yes!...was the reaction so many of us had to this song. Yes, please! Yes, thank you! Thanks for this reaction and congratulations on the birth of your son!

I literally cry whenever I hear this song. Such a beautiful song abut peace and then you think of the horrible murder of John Lennon. John Lennon and Yoko Ono were so in love. What a gift John Lennon was! So happy you guys get him.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written to me, I loved John Lennon's solo work. I first heard this as a small child and it definitely contributed to my outlook on life, I agree with another poster who said this song is necessary, especially in today's world.
I think John and Yoko would be so pleased to know that their message of love, unity and peace are still relevant and meaningful for you and your generation...50 years later! Thank you for sharing your reactions to this message with all of us.
Amazing song on another note this was John and Yoko's 1st house as a couple i delivered a kitchen to this house about 10 years ago and it still had the original double gates at the front with all the carving and signing's on it from when he sadly passed
I remember John Lennon being criticized for living lavishly while putting out "Imagine" which vilifies greed and materialism. I understand the criticism, but I think the beauty of the message outweighs the hypocrisy.
I don’t know if anyone already suggested “Whatever Gets You Through The Night.” Elton John stoped in while John was recording the song and offered to add keyboards and backing vocals. He then said that the song would go to number one. John didn’t think so and Elton offered a bet saying that if it did go to number one, John would have to sing a few songs with him onstage. It did and John performed with Elton at Madison square Garden on Thanksgiving in 1974. He was very nervous not having been onstage in years. The place exploded, as expected.
For all the negative press that Yoko got during the breakup of the Beatles I think that she was a good influence on John; and I have to believe that John was intelligent enough to know what he was doing as he turned this page in his life.
In response to your question about their relationship (her name is Yoko Ono). No, he was married to Cynthia and had a son, Julian. Yoko stalked him in the late 60s standing at the end of his drive. He happened to attend a gallery where her art was showing, he became intrigued by 'this strange woman' and then it went from there, leaving his son and wife. She pretty much took over his life and became a major influence on him. They even had a break for a year in the 1970s, where she paired him up with her secretary May Pang with whom he had a close relationship for a year. The relationship then resumed and they had a son (Sean). John was shot in December 1980 as he and Yoko returned from the recording studio in Manhattan late one evening, by a guy who claimed to be a fan and earlier asked John to autograph some records. The saddest thing is he'd just completed his album (Double Fantasy) and was about to start performing again, was back in touch with his old Beatle bandmates, and planning a return trip to the UK to visit relations and family. I remember the day well, as I was a student in college. We were all very shocked, upset, and angry about it. The nation wept at the untimely passing of John Lennon.
One of the most important songs ever written. It's one who's message seems to have been sadly forgotten over time,... but it's a message that we really need right now.
I remember when he was shot... everywhere I went, grocery store, etc. - this song was played over & over. So lovely and sad...may John's dream come true ❤️
Beautiful song, and beautiful video. Something so simple as Yoko opening the blinds, yet it's mesmerising watching her do that so gracefully, and John never looked so good after the Beatles.
John didn`t know he was writing his epitaph in so many ways in this song; really makes me wish I had a time machine to go back to that sidewalk in 1980😇😇In the Beatles Museum in the UK the room dedicated to John is simply a white room with a piano, with "Imagine" playing on a loop.....a defy anybody not to be moved to😭😭😭😭R.I.P. you beautiful human being🥰🥰🥰🥰
The Beatles have an extensive song book, chock full of wonderful surprises. They don't disappoint. They are legend and you will be so happy you heard their songs.
Yeah, she got a lot of unwarranted hate from Beatles fans. You thought toxic fandom was a new thing? Nope.I will say she was a horrible singer though. you can knock her for that. Her songs on the "Starting Over" album were just...woof.
Yoko Ono is an avant-garde artist from Japan. They met at one of her exhibitions at a gallery called Indica Gallery. One of her pieces was a framed picture with a collection of random words that was hung from the ceiling. It had a magnifying glass hangin from it and little stepladder and the idea was to find a random word and that was supposed to to guide you in some way. When John went he grabbed the magnifying glass and his word said YES. So with that positivity in mind, he decided to see the rest of the show and that’s where they met.
Great reaction to a truly amazing song. One story of how John met Yoko. He was told about an art show in a gallery in London. When he got there, he found a completely white room with various "conceptual" art pieces he didn't like. But he noticed a large white stepladder in the center. The ladder led to a canvas stuck to the ceiling with some very tiny text on it, so small you needed to use the magnifying glass on the ladder to read it. John climbed up, grabbed the magnifier and it simply read - "YES". He was so taken by the work he went over to her and introduced himself. Supposedly, they never spent a day apart after that. There's other versions but I like this one. PS Yoko Ono was, and still is a very well respected visual artist.
I've walked pass the Dakota Apartments on West 72nd Street across from Central Park so many times through the years. I still shake my head whenever I'm walking by.
Amber said she knows of the iconic picture of the Beatles crossing the street which is the cover of Abbey Road. The entire album is a work of art. My fave part is the Medley that on an LP album is the 2nd side. It's a Medley of many songs that together or separate will bless your ears. About 20 minutes long(?). Would love to see you react to it.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I still remember being a teenager in my parent's house and the DJ breaking into the broadcast and announcing that he'd been killed. Then they played this song among others and I spent the night by my radio in shock, listening to his music and watching the tv coverage crying.
Isn't it something that we can remember what we were doing when someone famous and influential dies.. I was watching Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell announced it.. of course, I can't put Cosell's voice in the comment, but I heard it in my head, clear as day.

Interesting thing: Many of the lyrics were written by Yoko Ono. John admitted he had been too proud to give her the credit she should have received. They were such a powerful couple. 💜 So nice to see you two discovering the music I have known and loved all my life. 🥰
Not going to say you're wrong on your statement, but I find that hard to believe, it pretty much seemed to have John Lennon's signature all over it. I will try to look for something that supports your words.

@ALJ Studios yeah he was a real person, just like anyone else. This isn’t the gotcha you are hoping it is
So many people don't know that Yoko is the one who came up with the concept for this song.
Definitly didn’t beat his wife or anything…
@@smithbros1000 Perhaps this song never made it into her repertoire because she was a nun (...no heaven... / ...no religion...)?
@@robertgieseler1220 Sister Paulette mimeographed folk lyrics (James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, etc.) and handed them out to students (I was in 4th grade), hoping to discuss them. She sang, played and led some Catholic Masses in singing songs from "Godspell," etc. I wonder if the more traditional nuns in her group were freaked by her. "Imagine" may have been a step too far.
It IS sacrilegious and unpatriotic, a virtual guidebook for the antichrist and his one world government.
A madman with a f**king gun!
One of the best songs ever written 🥰❤️
John Lennon songs to check out: Woman, Watching the Wheels, starting Over, Jealous Guy and Give Peace a Chance to name a few.
Both "Woman" & "(Just Like) Starting Over" are awesome! Two of my John Lennon favorites!!
what about working class hero and how do you sleep
Oh yeah I love "How do you Sleep?". His songs are unforgettable and timeless.
Instant Karma
One of my favorite songs of all time, he was an iconic & amazingly talented man.
REST IN PEACE 🙏 JOHN 😇🤍
John and Yoko would love to hear young people like yourselves voice their appreciation and understanding of the song.
Probably the most influential songwriter in history. I love this song no matter who sings it.
My parents raised me on the Beatles (I'm 47) they're both passed now, but every time I watch new people finding and loving The Beatles (and their single stuff) and I feel them with me when I watch you all and smile. THANK you for that.
I’m a teenager but my parents also introduced me to the Beatles, I even chose this song to play at a piano recital because I love it
@@mr.mcnuggies That's beautiful!!!
RIP John Lennon. One of the most tragic murders in history.

Cancel culture doesn’t help. Issues, big issue must be discussed in order to progress, reflect grow and evolve.
If you want another beautiful John Lennon song, then try Woman, you will like it!
Great call...
Also from DOUBLE FANTASY - Watching The Wheels
I was about to suggest the same.
Woman is an amazing song.
Poor John. What a dangerous song that was for him and even if he’d written it today the world is still not ready to hear it.
because its incredibly ignorant.
You got that right. People are trapped in their little worlds.
@@artexjayOK trumper. 😂
As Lennon would have said, Love and peace. x
.
Most people just critisize him for being rich; nufortunately peace lovers are the minority......

This song makes me cry. John was such a peace loving spirit. So sad that he died so violently & senselessly.
God Bless him. May he rest in Peace.
"Imagine" is such a simple song that it's genius in its simplicity!!
The perfect comment. My thoughts exactly. Well done sir 👏👏👏
fun fact: If you watch the movie "Forrest Gump" you saw Forrest giving John Lennon the words to this song. (and teaching Elvis to swing the hips)
Forrest Gump was great that way.. such a very different movie, but I loved it. I lost it when he said "I'm not a smart man Jenny, but I know what love is"... and above all else, he never fell out of love with Jenny.
@@connieb4372 Great writing on that movie.
I wonder if Jordan knows that his catch phrase "I'm Shook" is probably a variation of "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley? Perhaps a future reaction video...
I can't imagine you've never heard this song before. It's a staple and anthem in practically every Olympic games
And whenever all the radio stations play it together at the same.... you know something BIG (and bad) has happened.

Beatle’s songs I love: Get Back; Norwegian Wood; Revolution; A Day In The Life; Come Together; Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds; Let it Be, and Eleanor Rigby.

His murder was quite the tragedy...I remember that day very well...Seems like the whole world was crying...I was only 12 at the time
I was 10 and had just started listening to The Beatles. Very sad. One of my earliest memories of current events.
Watching the wheels is another great John Lennon song
I was watching the London Olympics.. and John's face came on the big screen.. and i .. just started crying.. cos I knew, they gonna play the most iconic song in the world, ever.. and sure enough, they played that song.
Do you know that the song was recorded 50 years ago and is still relevant in today’s world? Our society has been through a lot in those years. Now, as much as ever, we still need the unity

One of the most beautiful, perfect songs ever written. Just Imagine... love you guys :)

If everyone in the world embraced this song the human race could live and grow into the future one of the greatest songs ever ❤️
Yeah, because communism always ends well.
Yoko Ono, his wife, and he really did love her.
The symbolism of Yoko letting the light in and making their world brighter.
Bwahahahahaha!
For all the negative press that Yoko got during the breakup of the Beatles I think that she was a good influence on John; and I have to believe that John was intelligent enough to know what he was doing as he turned this page in his life.
I am a 71 Canadian Lady who grew up with the Beatles first time was on the Ed Sullivan show they never get old
In response to your question about their relationship (her name is Yoko Ono).
What a fantastic and genuine reaction to a truly beautiful song.
And no religion too - he sang - spot on !
One of the most important songs ever written. It's one who's message seems to have been sadly forgotten over time,... but it's a message that we really need right now.
I tear up heavy hearing and seeing him with this very special message. I cried all night December 8 1980 when he a great man passed away.
John didn`t know he was writing his epitaph in so many ways in this song; really makes me wish I had a time machine to go back to that sidewalk in 1980😇😇In the Beatles Museum in the UK the room dedicated to John is simply a white room with a piano, with "Imagine" playing on a loop.....a defy anybody not to be moved to😭😭😭😭R.I.P. you beautiful human being🥰🥰🥰🥰
It's pretty hard to go wrong with the Beatles, including their solo projects and other groups.
The Beatles have an extensive song book, chock full of wonderful surprises. They don't disappoint. They are legend and you will be so happy you heard their songs.
Walking into The Beatles Story In Liverpool and seeing a white grand piano with the words to “Imagine” on the Wall is an emotional experience.
Her name is Yoko Ono. They did love each other but many blame her for the breakup of the Beatles.
Which is of course really unfair.
Yeah, she got a lot of unwarranted hate from Beatles fans. You thought toxic fandom was a new thing? Nope.I will say she was a horrible singer though. you can knock her for that. Her songs on the "Starting Over" album were just...woof.

@@jonhanson6128 The creative tension between John and Paul was underway long before Yoko was a part of it.

It was kismet, all the way!❤
This song is so beautiful, Yoko was a piece of work!
1971 is the year this song was released .. powerful - wishful -
I've walked pass the Dakota Apartments on West 72nd Street across from Central Park so many times through the years.
