I'll never forget that morning when I was getting ready to go to school and my Mom told be John Lennon had been killed during the night while I slept. It was shocking. It was tragic. It was unbelievable. One of the darkest days of my life.

I woke up to my clock radio and heard one Beatle song after another after another. I switched radio stations and the next one on the dial was a country station that was playing a Beatles song. I went station to station and every one of them was playing Beatles, which really baffled me. So I got up, got dressed, and walked into my living room where my dad had on the morning news. That’s when I finally heard the news.

The day John Lennon was killed, I was returning home after work. Suddenly, my friend, who was walking next to me, said: "Did you hear that a musician was shot in New York today. John Lennon..."
I still remember how the world around me instantly turned black and the sounds disappeared.
I still can't come to my senses when I remember that moment.
We all miss this man very much. I think this song is one of the strongest in the history of music. Very beautiful and correct. I really want this world to become a better place.

I still dream and believe in/ of peace and wish it upon us all. Still hold hope that one day everyone will get and understand eachothers views beliefs goals. Kindness consideration and willingness gets us there helps the goal we should always be striving for. It’s not to take away from history but to learn very important things about one another. That make us think the way we do. In whatever culture country city village one lives in. Not to say everyone should live exactly like the other but to except one another for our differences. No one thinks there’s a cookie cutter way of life … some think that’s what johns trying to say. Most in the slightest.

Thank you for the great reaction. Certainly this is one of the most important songs bringing out the reality that we are all the same at the root of mankind. We are all humans first. It is fine to be content with our particular culture, but it is a far greater thing to see it as rather superficial compared with human commonality. There are people who clearly see this but not enough to stop what is happening in the world (yet). Perhaps if they join us the world will be as one. Thanks again.

I grew up listening to both the Beatles and John Lennon, and I'm sure I've heard everything both artists have ever produced. Lennon was a once in a lifetime gift. But...
This is John Lennon's self-described anthem to Socialism. As you analyze the lyrics more and more each time you listen, you begin to realize that this anthem leaves nothing much left of the things that make humans happy, both individually and in society: faith, tribe, personal attainment, etc.
Its lyric could easily include "Nothing to Live or Die for..."

It was not the most important song ever written (however you define that?)...but it is a VERY good one!

Heard this song a million times over the years. Humanity is in such a bad place as it always has been imo. No better, no worse. Just different. People suck. We are such fools & nothing ever changes.
But this song still gives me a tiny, tiny ounce of hope, even it’s just a dream

Yes, it is an absolute beautiful song- showing what the world could be! But it,was easy for John Lennon, to sing this iconic song, when he was living in his insulated, ivory tower! I don’t know if he did anything besides sing this song and make incredible profits, or did he use his wealth to help those he sang about?

John Lennon was correct. Religion separates people. If there's anything that has caused more war and horror in this world it is mankind's invention of differing religions. If religion had never been invented we would be one step closer to living as one.

@@stevennovakovich2525 The problem is religion was a concept developed thousands of years ago before there was scientific knowledge and understanding, which resulted in fear due to ignorance. It was a way to both reassure and placate people as well as to control and keep them in line. However some people prefer to remain ignorant and believe we should live in the exact same way the masses did when we had far fewer answers and less understanding, and follow everything written in a book under such circumstances literally. Fear and the desire to judge others are two very strong emotions that are hard to shake.
