*To all the dreamers out there, don't ever let the world's negativity disenchant you or your spirit. If you surround yourself with love and right people, ANYTHING is possible...*
So many people are discouraging me from doing medicine telling me I won't make it.. I'm on nursing & midwifery course at the moment. It's hard with doing Maths on the side. I can only dream to make it To medicine and Through medicine. So many people saying negative things as I'm 31. Telling me I can't do medicine And have a family later down the line etc anything that focuses on the negatives
Dr McDonald seems like such a lovely person to work with! Thank you for the little interview (and thank you for your vlogs in general - I don't often comment, but as a premed I find your content really motivating + inspiring!)
I needed that Ted Talk. 🥲 I had to push back my graduation from undergrad and I've been feeling like I'm a failure for not graduating on time. But you're right! I am where I needed to be. It's all in God's time.
My old work partner and I on night shift would yell "2319!" when it was 11:19 PM because our trucks had the time in the 24 hr setting. Cracked us up every. single. time 😂
Hey Rachel glad to see you progressing so well and doing what GOD has called you to do. My son Hunter is in his second block of DO school at VCOM and he’s doing well and learning so very much. Thanks for sharing your story and your trip through DO School. I’m trying to get him to start a TH-cam channel as well. To show others that are seeking a career in the Medical Field.
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video, Rachel :) Also, I really appreciate the TED talk!! Needed to hear that reminder..currently finishing up my pre-reqs for med school and I clicked this video prior to studying for some motivation and inspiration :))
Hi Rachel my name is tehan I am a huge fan of yours all the way from Sri Lanka I’m going to be starting medical school at the start of next year and I just wanted to say that your videos have been a source of information, happiness and laughter( your intros are the best!) it’s great to see you be your authentic self in all of these videos and you are a huge inspiration 👍
Love your videos! I got into med school last week, and I wanted to let you know that I watched your videos a lot during the application process to unwind. Your genuineness and excitement kept me motivated at some really difficult times! So thanks! 😁
Looking forward to another great vlog!! Rachel I wanted to share and get something off my chest. I'm honestly really struggling this semester with my classes. Physics especially I am doing really bad and it's been so discouraging. I'm a pre med college freshman and seeing you as a medical student pushing everyday to make your dream of being a doctor a reality has been really encouraging. I have have been really doubting myself. But I'm not giving up! I truly look up to you so much! Thank you for being your amazing self! ☺️❤️🐜
I’m not sure if you’re looking for advice, but for what it’s worth, you got this. You’re way more resilient than you realize, and you clearly have the drive to succeed. Reevaluate your study strategies or spend a little extra time per week on the class, if you need to. But more than anything, don’t doubt yourself. You are just as deserving as everyone else to become a physician, and you will succeed as long as you keep working hard and genuinely realize that you have what it takes. Physics sucks, but power through it no matter what.
@@johns1064 Thank you for taking the time to comment this! This is something I definitely needed to hear! I am looking for advice. I thank you for your kind and encouraging words. This made my day! So grateful I hope you have a great day. 🙏🏼 I'm not giving up
You got this!!! Everyone has a class or two they struggle with and it’s okay! Try to do well in your other ones to balance that gpa, and just do your best.
you got this! I am a senior who decided to completely change my major to pre-med after being in business for two and a half years so, I'm basically a sophomore now ... I spent a lot of time thinking I couldn't do science but, have completely turned around on that without anything other than confidence. Of course, I put in time and adjusted my studying when I didn't do well on a chem 101 test (i did in fact get a 32 on an exam i thought i studied pretty hard for) studying
Rachel, thank you so much for this video! I really needed the motivation to continue on the pre-medical path. Sometimes, I feel like I'm putting in all this effort, only for it to possibly not work out in the end. But it's about the process: it's finding out what you're truly passionate about, meeting new people, and making your mark on the world!
Always so motivating, Doc Rachel!! I'm now in my 2nd year of med school which most say is the toughest. And the seemingly never-ending pandemic is making it worse. Watching your vlogs really uplift my spirit and remind me to look back to the reasons of why I started this journey in the first place. Sending all the love from the Philippines
I also get random hiccups when I change locations or get up/lay down too quickly! I've never heard of anyone having the same problem and I'm happy I'm not alone. It's so frustrating, though! Especially when I sit down to see patients (I'm an M2).
I finished my Pediatrics rotation not too long ago and enjoyed it! My Family Medicine rotation is going to be in February, it's going to be COLD here in Canada :/
Studying for the MCAT now and also applying. 2 weeks out from test day and can’t believe it’s actually happening. I’ve worked hard enough to finally apply and it may or may not work out, but thank you for the motivation to be in a space to challenge myself to get to where I want to be. We will get there even if it takes 100 app cycles lol #RedAnt
I really enjoyed your vlog, Future Dr. Southard! So nice to watch after my 4 hour neuro lecture 😭 . May God bless you on the rest of your monumental journey!
Dr. Southard, you are my inspiration! It’s amazing how you can be so dedicated to medicine and helping others, while also making time for self care and improvement. Thank you for inspiring us all. 🤍
Hi beautiful, this is what I needed to hear and I'm sure many can relate , I am absolutely sure that I want to become a doctor now ,after joining your nerd herd a while back !🤓 it's great to know you're rooting for us !
It’s been a minute, I started watching you cause I wanted to get educated for my ex when he went to med school.. but honestly fell in love with your personality, and how passionate you are. Happy to say I’m slowly healing, and your videos always make my day ❤️
I get the hiccups sometimes when I suddenly get cold. Sometimes it's when I leave my warm blankets in the morning and get up. 😅 A boss who emphasizes the importance of balance? Where do I find one of those?
I'm not sure if I misunderstood her but even when comparing hours worked and overall time worked (experience wise) women in medicine are still payed less than their male colleagues. It's not as stark as if you compare without taking hours worked into account but it is still present in every specialty.
I have a question this is a random Im a CNA have been for years but it wears u out PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY and EMOTIONALLY. I wanna quit but its great clinical experience I guess my question is wht job did u have while doing prerequisites? Like did u have a job that was beneficial for u to get into med school?
Anybody have any good advice on shadowing etiquette? I’m shadowing an orthopedic surgeon soon and I wanna make sure I don’t look like a complete fool when I get in there
Dress nice! Ask questions when the surgeon looks the least busy. Be respectful, in general. Try to be out of the way. Smile. Be kind to everyone there, patients and staff and anyone :)
I love family physicians. They're the closest thing we have today to the old-time doctors. They usually can handle many different issues without needing to refer one to separate specialists. Most adults have internists as their PCP, but I found them totally useless. Well, maybe they're okay if one has chronic or serious internal conditions which I've never had. This particular FM doctor has the right attitude. Listen to her! Everyone needs a balanced life. Don't try being a workaholic or competing against workaholics with no personal life. While the money may be better, it'll rapidly age your body harming your health. I hate seeing medical and nursing students burden with so much debt. Maybe some day we'll return to the era when this didn't happen. The public desperately needs role models and reminders who push health and a balanced life on them. You all could be that if (re)trained to adopt this lifestyle too.
A luxury yet ironically also a necessity. Plenty of places won't hire you if they find out you don't have a car and will use public transportation. They immediately assume you can't get there. But when I apply somewhere, it's because I already checked all the possible routes and know I can get there. It ends up being the people with cars who are late because they spent too much time on makeup and hair or got up late because they hit snooze 7 times.
Rachel😩 I can't thankyou enough honestly.. You are the one who motivate me every single day just through your vlogs. Right now I am doing a chemistry past paper and just by seeing the notification i clicked on this video to watch as i do my paper. Im just not in my best these days cuz for some reason (idk what it is😥😩) i just post my motivation and right nw im trying to get back in the track as everybody else's are already on the lead😞 thankyou for this weekly motivation u give to us amidst of your hardworking..
