Hey just wanted to say that the little talk in the car was really important and I’m so glad u put it in the vlog. I think having a really influential med school youtuber who emphasizes teamwork and helping others is so valuable. Cause it’s just a huge ripple effect of positivity in the long run! I’m pretty lucky and haven’t met too many gunners at my undergrad and I’m definitely way more of a team player than someone who wants to show off. Anyway just wanted to say that I’m glad u put that segment in.

It’s okay if you decide to cut back a little on vlogging while on rotations (e.g. a vlog every other week or something like that). You mentioned being really tired and that it was hard to balance vlogging all week with your rotation… I just want you to make sure you are remembering to take care of yourself ❤️

You need some Overnight Oats for breakfast. Super easy to make; literally just dump the packet contents into the special cup and add whatever milk you like and leave it in the fridge overnight. Plus they have so many flavors and do seasonal flavors too.
Also, remember to take care of your mental health. Make sure you have someone you can talk to if you need to decompress from seeing horrible traumas like you mentioned or just the stress of the job and balancing life in general.

A month ago I was shadowing a doc in internal med and there was a med student there on rotations. I will literally NEVER forget how kind and helpful she was. She told me how everything ran, what things meant in non-medical jargon, and even let me walk with her as she did HPI for a patient. She even gave me tips for med school and her contact info for if I needed more help. It makes such a big difference!! I hope I can do the same for students one day!

Different med student named Rachel here in case she doesn’t see your question. Typically clinical rotations are a part of medical school (usually the last 2 of the 4 years), so this is not her job. Medical students are not paid for their time in the clinic/ hospital since it’s a part of our training. Hope that helps!

@@RachelSouthard alrighty.. but u know.. society expects doctors to take more responsibility than an average citizen, if a doctor feels the system is putting too much burden on him/her to become tired and not being able to do the task then its a worry for all and u probably should talk to the management for a better arrangement. But if your tiredness is after the happy end of an exhaustive yet fulfilling shift then probably its fine!

Your comments on the importance of teamwork and being helpful is SO refreshing. I'm competitive, but honestly, mostly with myself, but I'm so willing to help people, and I needed the reminder that we don't need to see other people as our competitors, in my degree there's a real push for that. It goes against who I am though, so thanks for being a voice out there to advocate for teamwork and helpfulness especially when it's going against the grain of a particular culture!
