When my Dad died, I was looking into his eyes and holding his hand. He was struggling to breathe, and I told him it was ok, that he didn't have to hold on for us any more. He took two more breaths and was gone. I walked around town that night listening to music trying to find a song that said what I felt. I wish I had heard this one. It is EXACTLY the way I felt.

My Dad is currently dying in the hospital from Stage 4 Cancer. It just went into his liver. He told me not to use his death as an excuse to drink. I told him never again to leave him in peace. I just had a liver transplant a year and a half ago. He used to pick me up off the floor while I was dying, and wait with me until the ambulance arrived. These past few months I've been picking him off the floor to wait for the ambulance to arrive. I just played him this song today at Kaiser hospital while he lay dying. This memorial weekend just took on a whole new meaning for me.

But I believe when it’s time for him to depart, he will be more comfortable leaving cause he knows that you will never drink again. Speak from your heart and let him know how much you love him and tell him about your favorite memories with him. I pray you two find comfort and peace with one another in your last days.

I didn't lose my father, he just went away to remarry leaving us and my mother, I am always touched every day to see my mother working hard to feed us and we are 5 siblings, only I am the last child who is at school. I have never felt what it's like to have a father and when this brother sang this song, it was the first time I cried because of my father.

As I see here listening to this song, my dad, he's laying in the hospital in critical condition of a massive heart attack, and he is Rapidly declining period today. Might end up being the hardest day of my life. It might be the day where I have to give the doctors direction to End All life-saving Care and Let Him Pass Comfortably. It's a choice that I ultimately knew that 1 day I would have to do, but I wasn't prepared to do it just yet. May God grant me the strength to get through this day and to be able to tell these doctors what is best. This is just 2 years after we lost our mom. It is a very painful time for us.I have no words to describe just how hurt I am

My dad wasn't around very much growing up, but my step grandfather was, he was my father figure growing up. I woke up on December 26th of 2023 to the news he was unresponsive, got to his house and he was long gone after a heart attack. Didn't get to say goodbye, just had to see his body under that goddamn sheet, worst day of my life. I'm Tongi's rendition of this song both rips my heart out all over again, but is one of the most relatable and beautiful songs I've ever heard.
I hadn't heard this song until Iam sang it, I had to go listen to James Blunt's version and I have to say I prefer Iam's. So beautifully sung, and so heartbreaking. Can't wait to see him announced as this season's winner!

Holy shit man my dad's still alive and I busted out bawling like a baby hearing this just thinking about the day he will go and the fact that he's my step dad so it it hits even harder for some reason.
I was raised by a step father as well, and i had the same reaction. I think the reason it hits more is two fold, first of all any ol' idiot can be a sperm donor and get your mom pregnant, but the step father actively chose you as their child when they had no obligation to, making the presence that much more meaningful as you aren't tied together by obligation, but purely by love. Second, the line "i'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye" definitely hits different for a step father as while it's technically true that they aren't your father, they're definitely your dad, if that makes sense.
