My mom has dementia, and to her I am a stranger. My heart is so broken each time she looks at me with those empty eyes, but somehow this song makes me feel better. I will always be there for her, the one who keeps the monsters away.

I know your pain, I have lost my beautiful as sweet youngest sister, Donna to ALZ/Dementia . She presented issues at 50 and passed away on 3-18-22 at 57. Donna had the aggressive fast moving dementia/Alz that took her far too soon. My oldest sister Lucy has the longer type dementia/Alz she was diagnosed with Donna in 2016. Lucy’s now in nursing home. I have been through this horrific journey 3 times (our mom, Donna and Lucy). It’s beyond heartbreaking to watch your loved ones slip away…thee empty eyes break me. I pray you cherish your time with your mom. I’m still a mess after loosing my siblings and mom. Prayers for you and your mom💜💜💜❤️❤️👣🙏 Amen 🙏 ❤️

Why does this world have to be so cruel
The pain losing my dad when he was only 50 and i was only 24 that was 16 years ago still cant get over it thats why i cant understand why life is so cruel either 😥
My dad is still alive but I wept heavily in my car listening to this song. It reminds me how short life is and how we must learn to make as much great memories with the ones we love cos they won't be around for too long. My dad sacrificed a lot for me the least I could do is to appreciate him while he's still alive.

My dad was my best friend, we did everything together. He tragically passed away one morning unexpectedly 7 years ago. Im at ease knowing I always told him I loved him and I was there for him as much as I could be. I always tell my friends to make that call, take the time to go for breakfast, always tell them you love them because you never know. Prior to losing my dad I hadnt lost any relatives. You always hear about people passing away from friends, or friends of friends relatives but you never think it will happen in your family, until it does. So cherish every minute and pick up that phone.

Yeah my dad died 9/7 and he made some mistakes and I think he died thinking he was a fuck up. If I could just hold him once more and tell him I love him and that he’s not a fuck up I would in a heart beat. You never know what you have until it’s gone. Please hold your parents tight & never take them for granted. Forgive them if it’s within your means. One day they will be gone and it will haunt you forever

That part got to me as well as well as the part where he says (i’m not your son and you’re not my father we’re just two grown men saying goodbye) What he meant by it’s my turn to chase the monsters away was that it was his turn to comfort his dad in an extremely sad and scary time like his dad has done for him all his life

This song hits hard. I lost my dad February 25,2023 at 2:03 am. At the end he didn't know who I was. That was the hardest thing I've ever been through knowing he no longer knew me. I know it's not his fault but it hurts like he'll. 😢😢

This song made me feel bad, not for the same reason that everybody’s here of. I felt bad because I never felt this close to my father, he’s always been so rude and mean to me, my siblings and mostly my mom and my sister. He has a stage 3 cancer and I don’t feel a bit bad and it’s killing me that I feel that way every single day and I just can’t seem to forgive him no matter how hard I try. Here I am surviving this non fair life and hoping for everything to be okay before it’s too late to. Amazing and touching song btw ❤
This song makes me think of my dad. He suddenly passed away and I was never able to say Goodbye. I'd give anything just to feel the warmth of his hug again. I think about him everyday and reminisce on all the good times we had, and it makes me tear up. One of my happiest memories of him was when I finally beat him in poker, we were both laughing and he said "I want a rematch, i'll beat you next time". Hopefully there is an afterlife so we can finally have that long awaited rematch...
