Andy McKee, man you make some beautiful tunes with your guitars, this song was also played at my father funeral 9yrs ago and it helped me through unimaginable times, keep at it man, you are one gifted artist
Andy this is a fantastic song! Could you do a step by step for some of these chords? I want to love learn some of your voicings that go outside of standard chord shapes.

My condolences guys! My father passed last year and we share enigma - return to innocence. But this song now I listen to it after reading your comments, a lot of memories come up
some people strum a few chords and become famous, this guy clearly puts a lot of hard work and time into his compositions hes obviously dedicated to it, he deserves every bit of recognition and praise that he gets thanks for the beautiful music !
6 years ago I came across this video. My dad asked if I have a good instrumental music that he can listen to before going to bed...I gave him a copy of this one and he loved it...He was at the hospital then, trying to recover from a heart failure...every day he listens to it...
joshua reinhardt I just want those who listen to this beautiful piece of art to have a blessed day, just as it has done for me. Thank YOU for being yourself as well :)
This song was playing when my daughter was born. She's two and a half now, and I was just watching the video again today. She came up and asked me to dance to it. How could I say no? Thanks for being awesome, Andy.
does your 12 year old daughter still ask you to dance? I have a 10 year old and 8 year old that knew my father and a baby that will never see him. My daughter at 8 still asks me to dance. Never reject a dance request from your princess.
My daughter surprised me with this as her song to dance to at her wedding four years ago. I was almost in tears it's so beautiful and you can feel his love for his Dad in the way Andy plays it. Thank you to Andy and my daughter - Love you, Dad.
I am so glad I was able to show my father this song before he died. He got diagnosed with cancer and after a lot of fighting he beat it but it came back and took him. However before all that, I showed him this song in hopes that in some way he would understand through the melodic tone and notes here-in that he would understand how I felt about him. He listened and I have no doubt he understood the love I felt for him. Thanks Andy, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me translate. And now that he is gone, this song carries more beauty than any other tune. Take care friend.
My father was diagnosed with advanced stage bladder cancer earlier this year. Being an intermediate acoustic guitar player I dream of playing this song for him. Its such a beautiful composition. Hope to learn it by September 2017 so I can play it for my dads birthday. Love and peace to all.
I watched this song when it only had 1000 views. I teared up then as I have now so many years after it first came out. I am still lucky my dad is still with me, but I can’t help think of him every time I watch this song. Andy, thank you so much for one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.
Almost 17 years ago this masterpiece was created. I was at my 7th grade to be precise, knew nothing about this "Maestro" and his compositions. Some decade later or so, this caught my ears and literally every single tab hit the core of my heart. From then on, whenever i re-listens to mckee's albums it brings out the emotions at par with my innocent days.
I am sorry for you loss man. My father passed this passed August. I have always loved this song but love it even more. I see a montage of memories when I hear this song all the way from when I was young and helping him build the deck or chilling with him and the family on holiday's or even on a summer day and the last days I got with him. My heart goes out to you and anyone else who has lost a parent.
There's nothing better than music in times when words seem to fail to convey the depths of our emotions, this is soooo beautiful Andy McKee. If my son ever wrote me a song like this, it would make me feel like my entire existence had really been worth it :)
I really admire Andy McKee. Not just for the fact that he is the most beautiful guitar player ever, but for the way that he carries himself. He is a really down to earth guy and Even though he is an amazing guitar player and has gotten really popular over the years, he is as humble as anyone. I had the opportunity to see him play live and get a picture with him at namm. He has been and always will be one of my favorite musicians and a huge inspiration to me.
My father drinks a lot, but I’m very close to him. Every Christmas/New Year’s we get together and play cards. We always bond over some music in the background, both of us being musicians and all…. But for the better part of 2 decades, I’ve played him this song , and his reaction never disappoints. Every year, it’s like he’s hearing it for the first time. Thank you sharing this masterpiece.
I just discovered Andy McKee this morning. And I had to watch/listen to all the videos. He's really amazing. So glad to have discovered him and his incredible talent.
On my dad's last night, he was lying in pain in his hospital bed. I placed my headphone on his ears. On the playlist was Andy McKee then we saw his anguishing face suddenly calmed down. For about 30 minutes he listened to Andy's music then he shooked his head asking to take the headphone off. It was in the middle of this song when he stopped. This was the last song he heard. I can't find the words to continue this story but thank you for your song Andy.
This is what music is supposed to be. Music is not something that you do or make to get money or get famous or anything like that. Music is what we create to express our inner emotions and feelings in a beautiful way. This song is one of the few songs that make me think, "Wow. He knows how to make true music." Keep up the good work Andy :')
My oldest brother committed suicide in 2010. He showed me this song one night when we were up late, having beers, talking about everything and nothing. I play it periodically and pretend that we're back in that messy bedroom trying to save each other. Miss you and love you Mike. I couldn't have had a better older brother than you man. See you on the other side. P.S- Thank you Andy for this masterpiece among other great pieces of work.
There are so many great artist out there, Andy McKee is one of them. His songs are so diverse, that you may not like all of them, but I guarantee you will love some them. This type of music will never be showcased on TV or radio ( mainstream media ), because it is truth in musical form. It draws the emotion out of you, while the best mainstream has ever been able to do is once in a while play a song you can .......kinda...identify with. These songs don't need a name, they are Truth.
I lost my dad on Valentine's Day 2021, and I still come to listen to this song. There are no words, but I can still hear them being spoken through the guitar. Sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes it makes me smile, sometimes I just stare out the window and think about him. Thank you for sharing your talents Andy. Me, him and my Uncle went to see you in Alabama over 12 years ago and it was an amazing opportunity and a great memory for me.
Just finished learning the intro!! Can't wait to learn the rest I'm so proud of myself I never thought I could learn Andy Mckee songs..he's so amazing(:
reminds me of going fishing, going to baseball games, sharing Christmases, Going camping, and spending quality time with a father.... that I never had.. Very bittersweet song
Its crazy to think that he doesn't speak a single word in any of his songs yet I feel more of a connection with his melodies than any words can describe
I hate you ... I hate for beeing able to express somthing to the most important man in my live without having to use any words. I wish i would be able to do anything capable to capture the harmony you expressed in those tunes. I miss him. I love you for making the effort to try and fill some of that gap. Thanks.
I'm so going to learn this song! for my father... I can play this for him on a special day, and if he ever dies i can play this song to remember him....
Kyle Levine Keep at it, you'll get it eventually! It's all fingerstyle so I find it pretty easy. I can play Drifting as well but I'm having trouble learning Hunter's Moon which I find really frustrating.
I am blessed enough to still have my father with me.. And I just decided to play this hard but incredibly amazing piece to express my gratitude for all that he'd done for me while I still can. Thank You so much Andy. I've been listening to this piece since I was a kid and everytime it feels new. God bless u
+Fuck Google i dunno i couldn't say it's a terrible recommendation but imo i feel like i don't wanna tune new strings up and have them break i'd rather risk it on old ones and then swap em after i do a little goofing. the biggest thing i'd think to do is just use a string that is the appropriate gauge lol :) for some tunings i'll buy all singles.
I'm 16 years old and I've already learnt Drifting, Rylynn, Hunters Moon, and now I'm pushing to learn this one! Trust me guys, the only thing that will stop you from learning these songs is your attitude :)
Rueben Grace me too man this is the next one I'm tackling! I learned drifting, rylynn and now I'm tackling this after a two year break from learning it. Just because of work and stuff but in finally getting back into guitar and I'm so happy
My best friend had this played at his funeral and it was beautiful, it represents his personality perfectly. He had a heart of gold and left happiness in his wake. He was truly an amazing person. All who knew him loved him.
Teddy Fuse I've learned it a few years ago, but haven't played it for a while. It feels good to play it during sunsets or when it's raining. Good luck on the playing :)
My father passed away February 27th of last year. I've been learning this song for him. It's so beautiful that I don't really mind only being able to play half of it. Thank you for writin' this tune Andy. This song means the world to me.
Molly - that's the best comment I've ever read on youtube. In fact, it's one of the best I've read in general. Would would happen if he started regularly playing it behind his head a la Hendrix?
I remember listening to this one in 2010, 2 years after my father passed away, and I could never finish the song as I always broke down. Now in 2021, I can now say that this song brings me great joy knowing how great my father was. Thank you Andy for making such a beautiful song that brings me great memories. 🙏🏻
My father just passed away. Thank you for this. I loved this song the very many years ago you released it. Now it resonates more than ever. Thank you Andy.
i did the same for my dad and he passed three days later this song is beatiful and relaxin mine and my fathers connection was always music and i think this song brought us that much closer when i played it for him...andy mckee u r an inspiriration and i thank u dearly
The world is indeed the most puzzling of places - that anyone could take the time to actively give such a very clearly beautiful piece of music a thumbs down... I sometimes feel baffled by folk. Of course, those people could have pressed the wrong button in their frenzy of passionate gratitude... yeah that's what it is.
This is the epitome of music, this was the reason music was created... to express emotion. Andy has done exactly that and more! When you can dedicate something like this to your father and without a word ever even being sung he understands, that should stand a test for generations to come. I really hope this is what the future of music will hold! But most of all, it's a salute to you Andy! Thank you for making the greatest song and music I've ever heard!
because they lack the soul to truly appreciate the gift that they are. God was present at your conception and he once again visits you through the gift he has blessed Andy with, to remind us of the strength, power, courage, compassion, sacrifice and love that our fathers have given us. When the time comes for them to reflect upon their life and what it meant, they will then remember their father and wish they had clicked the other button.
So Sorry to hear that... Im so glad God has blessed us with our fathers... I would do anything for my father. Im sure you would too. this is a beautiful song. My dad probably won't be here much longer either... Im just glad we have them
I come from Brazil to thank for this awesome songs. Your songs have helped me for years to win a great war that I have been struggling with depression. Thank you very much, may God enlighten more and more this great talent.
damn. i remember when this released on here. he didnt have many views. i shipped off to basic training shortly after. i remember listening to his music in my head. helped me through some rough times. even today i still come back and listen. thanks for being a part of my life, andy.
Just recently moved out for the first time a few states away from my father. Only real person thats always cared and did for me my whole life and just so hard to be out here doing this all on my own for once. Andy Mckee i really hadn't heard much of you before today but i must say your are a amazing guitarist and I hope you keep writing and maybe one day come to TN to do a show so i could thank you in person for putting whats been on my mind the past month in perspective
When my father died I made an audio visual -nothing seemed to fit music wise until my nephew came up with this like your father mine died of cancer too, this piece was exactly how I felt .Thank you so much Andy
It's a special thing to be able to use a gift like this for one's father who may have transmitted the talent to him. Hopefully it was done while his father could still appreciate the gift.
I have been studying abroad for almost a year and will be home in a month. I miss my family a lot. I am now learning to play this beautiful song and hopefully will be able to play it for my family. Thanks Andy.
Watched this video a long time ago and was so entranced by the skill and beauty. Today I played this whole song the way through without any major mistakes. This song only gets more beautiful and amazing once you learn all the nuances.
Andy , I started playing guitar as a kid and when I found this TH-cam video 10+ years ago it really solidified my love for music and dedication to get better at guitar. Thanks for that brother. Much love
thank you for this song andy mckee i can hear this song all day every minute and every second He makes me remember my grandfather you are a genius with giutar I hope you continue with the guitar for many years thank you for everything
I played this saying goodbye to my beautiful baby boy, today would be his 5th birthday in heaven. Thank you for this beautiful piece of music. It’s so close to my heart 💕
I cried from hearing this. I can tell all the sad moments, all the happy moments, and the reverence associated with his father just through his melodic tones. It's amazing.
DANG IT ALL HIS SONGS ARE SO DAMN PLEASANT. Like I really love Andy McKee and I really want to listen to his at like all times in the day, but if I'm ever excited or angry about something, this just calms me down so much.
This inspires me to continue to practice, if only to write a song as grand as this for my own parents. This is truly a beautiful gift, as it comes from the heart and soul. It cost nothing, but it's as priceless as the world. It convays so much meaning without words. It is truly a masterpiece.
I first listened to this song when I was 15 and sounded cool. My father passed away last year and since then it sounds beautiful. Thanks for helping me make it thorough the emotions of grief.
I hope I can play this for my father before he is gone. He has molded me into the man that I am and this would be one of the best ways to repay him for his hard work.
This really is a beautiful piece of music, what a great title to put to the music aswell, makes me think of all the good things my dad has ever done for me - love will truly conquer the world. Cheers for this - and God Bless.x
This song is absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. Andy McKee is a genius par excellence, and his guitar skills and creativity sweep me of my feet every time. I find it incredible disappointing that there are some here who would notice his baldness, instead of the incomparable ingenuity he has brought to the world of music. There's okay music, then there's truthful music. There are mediocre people dissing others, and then there are unrivalled talents like andy who steal your heart.
I am honored that my music was useful to you in that difficult time, Sam.
Andy McKee, man you make some beautiful tunes with your guitars, this song was also played at my father funeral 9yrs ago and it helped me through unimaginable times, keep at it man, you are one gifted artist
That's the hole point!!! Congrats for your humble and strong contribution. Your music is from other density. Thank you!!!!
Andy this is a fantastic song! Could you do a step by step for some of these chords? I want to love learn some of your voicings that go outside of standard chord shapes.
Hope your still playing love your music, been listening to it for years.
@@brianking4290 Yes sir I’m on tour right now, playing in Portland tonight. Thanks for listening 😊
This is the first TH-cam video I rated "5 stars" when I was 13...I come back here every few years when I'm at a low point in life
i came back to this song after many years and now i finally learned it!
What a ride it was to absorb it note by note and yea one cant help but stand awed to its grand sublimity!
Hopefully you come back because it brings a level of peace to you. Its wildly talented but more importantly it musically seems to express (at least to me) a level of acceptance and peace, and wanting to show growth.....to whom one has become and who is proud of it.
If you visit because you're struggling with an event, I would encourage you almost the same, view re-viewing this bit as a comfort....and hopefully one day will bring peace :)

2021 still rocking the Andee Mckee🤟👌🤙
Me too. Not low points, but it brings back memories that I miss. The good old days.
My father recently passed away. This song will be played at his funeral. It’s a beautiful song. Thank you for your beautiful music.
Have the same memory of this song.. My father passed in 2008.
Music reminds me of many things..
A song named Andetag from Gunnfjauns Kapell reminds me of grandmother.
My condolences guys! My father passed last year and we share enigma - return to innocence. But this song now I listen to it after reading your comments, a lot of memories come up

How does one just sit there and create such a beautiful song?
I believe this song was created in devotion to his dad (please correct me if I'm wrong)

240p never sounded better!
who gives a shit if its 240p? its about the music, and you don't need 1080 to enjoy music

This man's work is incredible - This was supposed to be my "work music", but I dare you not to drift away too when you listen to it! >D
Damn.. tuning the A string to a C was tense enough.. "please don't break, please don't break..."
+Rainbow Thats why I tune all 6 strings down a half step, gives me little bit headroom
+Rainbow 'Remember to use new strings for this tuning' .... nah I'll be fine xD
hahaha - I swear my butt cheeks clench everytime XD
+Rainbow you can always keep the A string as is and 'transpose' it. I do it and its very playable.
2015 Still going strong!!
I'm currently learning this song, so far I only know how to play the first 39 seconds.
Teddy Fuse I've learned it a few years ago, but haven't played it for a while. It feels good to play it during sunsets or when it's raining. Good luck on the playing :)
Thank you. :D
its quiet hard to play this song, lot of new chords there cz of the tuning haha, but its a very good song to play when you're alone or when sunset
Budiarto Y.N It may take a few days depending on how much time you practice. From there you can just play from muscle memory. Good luck playing :)
who cares about HD quality when you got 240p!? and why should quality matter when its for your father?
My father passed away February 27th of last year. I've been learning this song for him. It's so beautiful that I don't really mind only being able to play half of it. Thank you for writin' this tune Andy. This song means the world to me.
His hair has migrated to be close to the guitar...
***** Whatcha talking about?! He made a joke.. nothing about his guitar skills tho..
i've been watching this comment on Andy's videos like forever
His hair moved to his chin is he can hear his guitar better
Why did you repeat that??
Molly - that's the best comment I've ever read on youtube. In fact, it's one of the best I've read in general. Would would happen if he started regularly playing it behind his head a la Hendrix?
wish i had a father ti give this to
2020 anyone?

I remember listening to this one in 2010, 2 years after my father passed away, and I could never finish the song as I always broke down. Now in 2021, I can now say that this song brings me great joy knowing how great my father was. Thank you Andy for making such a beautiful song that brings me great memories. 🙏🏻
My father just passed away. Thank you for this. I loved this song the very many years ago you released it. Now it resonates more than ever. Thank you Andy.
12 years later and I can still hear a father and son’s whole life relationship...in 6 strings. I love you dad!
Still gives me chills that chorus melody. Even since first seeing it 16 years ago! Can't wait to see ya live in portland Andy!
i did the same for my dad and he passed three days later this song is beatiful and relaxin mine and my fathers connection was always music and i think this song brought us that much closer when i played it for him...andy mckee u r an inspiriration and i thank u dearly
The most calming and beautifully written music, hands down.
This is hands down the most beautiful thing iv ever heard played on a guitar.
Lost my dad in what seems like forever ago. Today's father's day and it didn't hit me until I heard this song.
Thanks Andy.
I love to watch Andy play, but often I don't it better to just close my eyes and listen.
Much love
thank you for this song andy mckee i can hear this song all day every minute and every second He makes me remember my grandfather you are a genius with giutar I hope you continue with the guitar for many years
thank you for everything
I played this saying goodbye to my beautiful baby boy, today would be his 5th birthday in heaven. Thank you for this beautiful piece of music. It’s so close to my heart 💕
I like these versions the most...this recording session. I love the energy
I cried from hearing this. I can tell all the sad moments, all the happy moments, and the reverence associated with his father just through his melodic tones. It's amazing.
This is one of those "perfect" compositions. The flow and emotion conveyed are clear and universal imo. Fav for sure
I saw Andy live at the basement in sydney. Breathtaking performance and this song could possibly be the most beautiful song ever, Thanks Andy
Still listening 12 years later, love it.
Thanks for the music.
this is one of those songs, not one single word, but it says everything
It's 2024. I miss my Dad. I will always love him, and this song will always make me cry. ❤
I first listened to this song when I was 15 and sounded cool. My father passed away last year and since then it sounds beautiful. Thanks for helping me make it thorough the emotions of grief.
I lost my father at the age of 16. He died of Colon cancer stage 4. He was the greatest man I will ever know.
I hope I can play this for my father before he is gone. He has molded me into the man that I am and this would be one of the best ways to repay him for his hard work.
I learned this song few years ago, now that i've lost my father playing this song will bring me to peace. Miss you dad love you forever.
