Exactly! Of the seemingly-infinite amount of songs I love, this is one that is among the closest to the heart. A picture says a thousand words, but how many does the instrumental convey? It's stunning.
15 years ago...to think, I was only 18 years old when I first heard this song. So much has changed. I can vividly remember the periods in my life, 18 to 23 years old, alone, listening to this song and deeply thinking about life and all of its uncertainty. I can still feel it. It's amazing.
I'm a guitarist, and a progressive metalhead, by nature, but what Andy does has SO much feeling in it, that I go through so many emotions, just sitting still, and listening. with all the guitarists on the planet, only the rare few can take you places, with their music, without you moving. Cliché, I know, but his brilliance, that's the only way I can put it into words.
I'm a guitarist and a prog metal/metalcore guy mainly as well, and I feel the same way about Andy's playing. He can convey just as much intensity and depth of emotion as most metal songs I enjoy He just sings through his guitar.
This song changed my life - in the best way possible. Every time I come back to it it’s like coming back to an old friend who dug me out of a hole I never thought I’d be able to find my way out of. I will be showing this video/song to my kids and hopefully my grandkids to show them what real music is and how deeply it can affect your destiny. Thank you Andy, you’re the best!
Andy McKee saves and healed many broken souls and broken minds including mine his music will always be the best on TH-cam and the world thank you Andy keep rocking
A sandy beach and a cold brew watching your kids play in the water while you relax -is exactly what I pictured even as a kid listening to this. Many many years later I come back to this original video and it takes me right back to a very complicated time in my life, however it was blissful. Thank you Andy! I love the guitar set up too.
I havent listened to this stuff since before i went to college for music... this stuff was certainly part of that inspiration and after a very long time, it still brings me a lot of peace. Thanks Mr. McKee.. a very big inspiration indeed.
I've come to it again for the first time in a few years...this piece just sticks with me...I dunno why. This video is the first time I ever saw anyone play a harp guitar, and it's been imprinted on my memory ever since.
must hear this from deep inside, what a great talent, and a gift to all that can hear him. Andy is in a higher realm , and his music has to be inspiring many. Thanks
In other universes, Andy also plays the drums, keyboard, xylophone, trombone and frequently doubles as an astronaut, secret agent and was once the president of the united states. If you would like to hear more about Andy and his journey through the multiverse hit star pound pound then hold for a brief charity message from our sponsors.
It was a beautiful melody 17 years ago and it still is today! I love listening to it and just focusing on all the different sounds he is playing! A true legend!
crazy, I heard your guitar play over a decade ago, than lost it, even searched it for some time, just to stumble upon your vids randomly. Yes! How lucky I am. :-) Always enjoeyd your very beautiful and smooth playi-style so much!
630 people.... are deaf. Andy McKee has grown massively in popularity since I first heard of him years ago. Now his videos have millions of views and I still to this day think he's the best solo acoustic guitarist I've ever heard of. Keep it up man! We love your sound!
Andy's playing reminds me of my high school classmate Michael Hedges. This is music for listeners and those who feel the artist's music, not simply hear it. Thanks to Andy for so closely emulating Michael whom we lost some time ago. When Andy plays you can really hear the influence, but at the same time it is Andy's originality that comes through. I wish the two of them had been able to make a duet performance - that would have been really something to behold. I just became aware of Andy today, Christmas, 2018. I will be looking for more from him. So few people can actually perform works with a harp guitar, but Andy has pulled it off with ease, the chiming and percussive taps, and those booming/ringing bass notes meld together to create deeply contemplative and stirring music. This is what I call soul music because of the effect it has. Thank you Andy for your gifted performance.
Andy bro I don't know how many times since 06' I have to hear this song but if it's still awesome today as it was the other day, it will indefinitely stay that way...
My favorite musician of all time! Been years and I still watch these salmon colored shirt, bald headed, bearded, genius's vids on a daily basis. Great live shows, nice guy. Andy is WINNING!
Yup....it's the first thing that came to mind. I have no doubt that the synth programmers probably used Harp Guitar samples in some of Mitsuda's compositions.
I remember my art teacher in high school introducing me to Andy McKee, well over a decade ago. My entire musical journey shifted. Jumping down the Andy McKee rabbit hole led me to so many other artists, and ultimately changed my musical preferences completely. Being a musical person at heart and a total empath, I connect music with all of my memories of emotions. One single song or genre can lead me to reflect on an entire phase of my life and can bring me back through every emotion I felt on those journeys. This song specifically brings me back to a time before my twenties when I had just ventured out on my own and moved to an ocean-side town, 3 states away from home. I remember sitting on the beach late at night, the stars bright in the sky, with only the sound of the ocean waves and my guitar in hand. Completely lost in the world, but also completely content. Total bliss… I since moved back home to Kentucky, started a family, and somehow found my way back here to the ocean, but with my family by my side. This song has come full circle for me, and I can’t seem to describe the emotions I feel when I hear it now. I am so thankful for it… and my high school art teacher. Bless that man.
Truly one of the best Musicians ever to play Acoustic(s) like this..., ever. The song is written so simply and elegantly, and played with such Soul. My son is blown away, and inspires him to play... Thanks Andy! Peace!
Absolutely, but I don't criticize people who don't and claim that they have "no souls" simply because they don't like the music that I like. That was just an all around childish statement.
I have been a fan for almost 10 years!! Keep it up Andy! Only guitarist that show so mush emotion through his music. I would love to hear you live one day but what are the chances in Hawaii :( thank god there is you tube! Lol 👍💚
Thank you Andy Mckee for this song, it means a lot to me, my father's ashes found it's resting place at Sea, North Sea, near Hamburg, Germany, Thanks Andy, just keep on playing like this man, you rule, thanks for this soothing melody, Thanks!.
last time I watched his videos there were only about 6 thousand views. Now he's between 8 and 10 million! Wow! Great job Andy! It makes me very happy to see that this many people appreciate good music.
I've been a fan of Andy McKee for YEARS, though he's not all that well known here in Norway (yet). Then I met a cousin I hadn't seen in ten years at a familygathering the other weekend. Live performance on 20160709 in Taipei, unfortunately, we are not heard your wonderful music entirely. It is still happy to see you here. Please not come to Taipei after another next 15 years.
When I hear this I find myself suddenly standing on a cliff looking over at the ocean, I could almost feel the breeze! For taking us to those places thank you Andy, in every sense of the word! ^^
Tis the beautiful harp guitar from a decade ago! 😀 makes my soul dance and my hair on the back of my neck stand! Andy you were awesome in Dallas TX 9+ years ago. Hope to see you back soon
I remember watching this video 13 years ago, 13 years later it still is just as phenomenal as it was the first time I watched it.
Exactly! Of the seemingly-infinite amount of songs I love, this is one that is among the closest to the heart. A picture says a thousand words, but how many does the instrumental convey? It's stunning.
I still have tears in my eyes while listening to this whole album. What a beautiful soul this Mr Mckee
@@johndeleonardis901 I think the heart knows what it loves!

***** Well said, bro. Couldn't agree more. Tonight, I'm on the other end of the spectrum: Watching some Steve Vai. Just "slightly" different, lol!
I feel the same way. Song makes me emotional for no reason. It's just that powerful.
@@GJones462-2W1 Eheh I'm pretty sure Andy is a big Vai fan as well ^^
And every word you speak resonates with absolute clarity, great comment sir i salute you

Me too... Just bought a harp guitar and now learning it atlast!
Its kinda scary how time flies, 14 years of this video, everything we do gets old quickly, by the way thats a timeless tune
I love this song. There's something so innocent about it. Reminds me of being a kid when everything was new and awesome.
Lovely song
This comment made me tear up a little.

Amen, I remember being 12 years old when this sowed up on TH-cam. Can't believe its been this long.
As a Death/Groove Metal and Deathcore guitarist, I find this beautiful.
Andy McKee saves and healed many broken souls and broken minds including mine his music will always be the best on TH-cam and the world thank you Andy keep rocking
9 years..what a wake up call
this man's got a gift, his music has gotten me out of some serious trouble just by calming down
Your comment is 7 years old, time flies
I used to listen to this all the time when I was a teenager. His music is so healing. And now its so nostalgic. Thank you for the memories. ❤
Came back for the same thing. 😄
Looks like a guitar that the final boss dropped
Looks more like something you'd use to defeat the final boss
It looks more like the Final Boss
You can't buy that guitar you can only unlock it by defeating the final boss
Looks like boss is playing a guitar. (I'm no expert in guitar playing but I like clean music)
Sounds like the endgame music
16 years later this song still hits me as hard as it did the first time.
