34:43 I absolutely LOST IT!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 "HEAVEN FORBID WE CHALLENGE OUR AUDIENCE...TO THINK (swirly motion pointed at head) DIFFERENTLYYYYYY!...ABOUT... THE MIRACLE OF GIVING BIRTH!"
Oooff Mandy's smile when she starts talking about her kids at 29:30. That's a mom's smile alright. Sterling's emotions when he talked about his son, that was beautiful, made me tear up. Also what Chris said about life being about going through the good and the bad sometimes at the same time and realizing that as we grow older is SO true.
So much hey. I had my load of tears. And added a new song to the playlist. Now even only the song brings me tears. I guess the welcoming of a new baby on earth by a mum resonates...
I love the message Sterling learned from his new baby, that we're here to practice love with each other. So profound and true. It's the same for everyone we get to interact with - children, grandchildren, spouse, and all family and friends. That really hit me today.
This episode of TIU is easily in my top 5. And it’s another episode that takes place completely in flashback; albeit different decades of flashback but still. My heart always aches a little hearing young Randall ask Rebecca “did you lose the baby and just couldn’t find it?” Which facilitates the conversation about stillbirth and how it can be explained to someone so young. And the parallel between a grieving, postpartum Rebecca opening her heart to let newborn Randall in and proud grandmother Rebecca talking to newborn Tess about her family and who Randall is now, always makes me sob😭 yet another scene that reminds me that Mandy Moore should’ve won an Emmy for her performance!
My son is teaching me to fight for myself. To ask what I deserve. Despite being non-verbal he always shows up for himself and finds ways to answer his needs and wants. It is so inspiring. So he both gave me the reason to fight for myself and shown me the way.
The Twix moment!! Never thought much about it originally, but that's the same thing Randall offered his mom at the movies as a teenager. It was especially meaningful for the two of them because of this episode.
Thank you! Thank you so much for the message about the middle. I am very much in the middle right now. My kids are 17,15, and 11. I am well past having babies and hopefully many years away from grandbabies. My husband and I are getting older and staying healthy is not as easy as it was when we were younger. My father passed almost one year ago. The message today that muddles can be a beginning too sometimes hit me square in the heart. I didn’t not expect that but I needed it and I am so grateful for it and for you all. Please keep doing what you’re doing. It is so meaningful. ❤
I’ve heard it said when my boys were wee, ‘The days are long but the years are short!’ It’s hard to stay in the present but oh so important to live in the moment with your littles because they don’t stay little❤😢. Cherish each stage even when it’s a tough stage. My mother-in-law also said it wisely ‘when the stalls are clean, the stalls are empty’. Embrace the chaos 😂
I love this podcast about this show I love. And as a community theater actor, I love hearing the actors’ insights. Thank you for this - liked and subscribed.
You guys didn't mention it, but Beth was scheduled to be induced on 11/1 because Tess was passed her due date. I tuned into all the stuff on the calendar on the refrigerator, lol. Also, I always thought they were supposed to infer that Tess was actually short for "Tessana" (pronounced "Tess-AH-Na" in my mind).
I thought Randal wanted to skip the Larsons' house because they always gave licorice lol. Didn't even think about the fact that they could have been the awkward neighbors that talked too much in the past until now lolol.
Was the injury to Mandy’s eye referenced later in the series ? I remember Jack saying something to the effect of- I never noticed the scar above your eye- does anyone know ? Please and thank you - love this episode and especially the costumes ❤❤❤
Jack&Rebecca cosplaying as Sonny and Cher didn't track as a millennial, but after research on the iconic 70's pop duo, the writers illuminate how Jack & Rebecca's worst fear as a couple is to expire before "death does them and their family apart", But death took their patriarch too soon, and Rebecca took a long arduous journey asking, like Cher in her song that "life after love" is possible. And we saw how their dad's loss as teens somehow made it challenging for her kids to lead fulfilling lives as adults. I guess journeying through the character had me thinking how moving on, feeling too much grief that's delipidating is a sign we need to ask help and receive the right help we need.
When I first saw this episode and Kate said, “I was tired of waiting.”, I assumed that she meant she lost her virginity to that guy, resulting in me getting very confused a few seasons later, lol
It's a shame when people decide to show birth as "more normal" in media, when that isn't how it is. The way birth is showcased in media, with women screaming in agony, birthing on their backs, is detrimental to society and only adds to the fear mongering of the truth of what and how beautiful birth truly is and can be.

"The happiest moments will also be the saddest" line plays in my head all of the time. One of my favorites from the series!
Sterling snort laughing at Chris had me dying too😂
Lol chris was straight goofin today, love it.
Did Chris have a few beers? lol haha 😂
I love when Rebecca says to young Randall ,“ you are not an instead. You are a fact. “ I am crying writing it. 💜

Proud parents in the room, truly!
The end of the episode with Rebecca talking to the babies - Randall and Tess - oooffff. That was beautiful and so much at one time.

The happiest moments will also be the saddest moments. What a profound paradox!
Always a great day when there's a new episode of That Was Us. So happy that this podcast is happening

You are all awesome.
Birth is beautiful! I loved this episode. I definitely have baby fever 🤒
I wish Justin Hartley could manage some of his Tracker time to do the podcast...
We will have him on the pod as soon as we can! Good things come to those who wait, or something like that...

I like Child Randall Costume MJ

I'm so glad the aged make up for Rebecca and Miguel changed/developed after S1E2. They were kinda creepy at first look, lolol.
I’m going to need Sterling to give Chris and Mandy a chance to speak! Good Lawd!

They are all talking over each other.
