I think December this year is looked pretty packed out in terms of new releases AND re releases of older titles in 4k or steelbook form. It’s easy to just go crazy all at once if you don’t budget or think about things a little. Yeah I watched Sue’s videos about her credit card debt.
I watched her channel for a long time but recently unsubscribed.
She got upset with me when I called her out for breaking her buying freeze commitment.
She turned in $500 worth of movies and took store credit instead of taking the cash to help pay her debts.
I am sorry but that is spending when you refuse money and trade for more movies instead.

      @PhillwithadoubleL  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@mediamadness969 I think I saw that video earlier too. I didn’t originally think she was going to let any of her collection go with what she said in a previous video.
Personally, in this situation and the realisation of the debt I think I’d have taken the cash to help pay things down. Having store credit kinda just retains that spending habit for a little while longer rather than trying to stop it. But… at least she wasn’t spending more credit this time around.
She did a re ent video with some new pick ups from pre orders that were made before the ‘buying freeze’ honestly was surprised she didn’t cancel some of these. Especially when she double dipped on the pricey Deadpool& Wolverine steelbooks. Really just the proof that these habits are hard to break.
Some very deep rooted habits and addictions at play. I hope she can get on top of things but would like to see her reach out for some help with dealing with the addiction.

Honestly, I feel sorry for people that find themselves in this position, I can see how easy it would be to do. I’m more in danger of doing this with retro gaming, but I’ve never had a credit card for this reason. After mortgage and bills and food expenses I have a set amount I save every month, anything left over I use to buy my gaming stuff. On occasion I have used PayPal credit to pay for a big item (which I could actually afford outright but didn’t fancy the huge outlay all at once) but I’ve got a rule about only having one thing at once on that and nothing else until it’s paid off (usually I get rid of the debt in 2 months or so with early payments) it’s a slippery slope, good warning video l.

    • @PhillwithadoubleL

@@Dessan01 I’ve done it before with Amazon credit in a similar way. Just the spread the cost out for a bigger outlay item. Making sure there’s only one thing running in that way at a time.
The thing that doesn’t really help is the marketing of some items. Those frequent limited editions or rare items causing FOMO and pushing to ‘needing’ to order those things. It’s a slippery slope.
I’ve seen that some of the retro games can get mighty expensive too. I see the temptation with those completely

@@PhillwithadoubleL Yeah I must admit I like my Blu Rays and 4Ks but I see these boutique labels as a bit of a rip-off; usually charging £60 for some fancy packaging when an older version of the same film can be got for £5.00 second hand (albeit maybe not as higher quality restoration). If it’s a film I really love I’ll buy the boutique copy, but I certainly don’t need every new release from there places each month costing £100’s. Gaming has boutique labels too such as Limited Run - they literally charge £100 for a game which can be got digitally for £10 or less 😂 and there is a pre-order time of something like 2 years.

    Hi Phill
Yes, something like that can quickly get out of control, especially if you want to keep up with other TH-camrs, but is it worth getting into a mountain of debt? I say clearly no, even if it's easier than ever these days to buy something with just one click, but in the end you should try to ensure that this hobby doesn't become a nightmare where you end up losing everything.
The hobby is a blessing and a curse at the same time, you just have to find the balance in the middle.

Spending credit is a very easy and addictive thing to fall in to. I now try to avoid if I can. Now, credit is only used for those things which aren’t every day purchases, the bigger kinda items. Although, I’ll possibly use credit for the channel at some point… I’m just timing it out well and making sure the pick ups are well considered and needed. It will be for more behind the scenes things like cameras or lenses etc etc

Good to hear you don't have debt problems anymore. If used correctly with discipline credit cards can be used to help pay for large purchases using 0% Apr. But you need to be disciplined and repay each month otherwise it can get out of control. I've never experienced debt issues and don't intend to. But things happen in life that can cause people to get into debt easily. But at least help is out there. Burying problems away is the worst thing that can be done. Tackle the issue head on and there is always a way to reduce the debt.
