As someone who has lived in Vegas now since 1995, this town had gone down hill fast and is circling the drain at this point. I used to recommend that friends and family move here for the low cost of living and the great housing prices, and that is all but gone(cost of living and home prices are insane now). Sadly once a hotel reaches a certain age, ownership just won't spend the time and money to keep it up unless it is a prime location(or great brand name). And you would think having so many options would make for better deals for the public, NOPE. They just all treat you like shit and if you don't like it, oh well, the casino across the street is just as bad. The best places you can stay when visiting is off strip properties that cater to locals and those visiting who don't like the fast pace of the strip(and those places still have free parking).
The first time I went to Vegas was with my parents when I was 14 in 1998. We stayed at NYNY which was neat, and back then Luxor still had some really cool little stores with unique stuff in that dead area you talked about heading toward Excalibur. It was sad going back years later and seeing how far the hotel in general had fallen. Somebody also tried to pickpocket my watch right off of my wrist in Luxor's casino. I felt his fingers go up under the band to pull on it and I ripped my hand away, glaring at him, and he immediately ran off. I've worn a cheap Walmart watch every time I've gone to Vegas since and I always have a purse with a short strap that zips up completely, and I keep it tucked under my arm with the zipper facing in front of me just so pickpockets can't fuck with it. Because there are TONS OF THEM in Vegas.

That's pretty much the direction all of the themed resorts in Vegas have gone. They were built during the kinda short "family-friendly" era of Vegas which is now long gone. Treasure Island has gone through a similar experience with the original sign being gone and the pirate show having been gone for a long time now. While the stuff for that is still there it's all just an afterthought now. Same goes for Excalibur and Circus Circus which are both incredibly bad now.
@@lonesoul663 It was a time period where Vegas was trying to market itself as a place to go for a family vacation and it just kind of fizzled out. Pretty much like most themed places/attractions from the mid-90s to early 2000s.

Okay but Fr the Egyptian theme is a fantastic one I cannot believe it hasn't expanded or renovated extensively to have intricate themeing throughout the whole dang thing
In fairness: their Tower rooms are in significantly better shape than their Pyramid rooms. I find it hard to gripe on the Luxor too much given the fact that it is valued as well as advertised as a three-star resort. So especially when you consider its rates Sunday through Friday as being as low as $30 a night before the resort fee: I feel it's actually not bad at all for what it is. It's certainly true it's dated as are its entertainment offerings, and it's also lacking in quality dining options. But to its credit it has a slightly above-average standard pool in my opinion and the newly-opened PLAY Playground is a much-welcomed addition that is breathing considerable new life into its core. So in my assessment: is Luxor one of the Strip's best? Of course not. But I genuinely don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be given that it's a three-star resort that is very economically-priced most weekdays, their Tower Rooms being thoroughly renovated fairly recently, and just having some thematic novelty to it.
Thanks for the virtual tour! I stayed there back in the mid-90s, had a 12th-floor suite overlooking the Sphinx. It was pretty fantastic back then when everything was new. They had a pretty cool motion ride at the time. Kind of sad to see how things have gone downhill but I suppose it was kind of inevitable.
Excalibur and Luxor are the Budget hotels on that end of the Strip, be like staying at the All Star Music and complaining about the quality. Mandalay Bay would have been a better choice on that side. I stayed in the Luxor for a couple of nights in 2000, it was the era of "family friendly" Vegas and I remember 10 year old me enjoyed it quite a lot. Room wasn't enormous but it was surprisingly cheap for its amenities, though we made up for that at the very expensive sushi bar, I think we paid $200 for 4 people, that's steep now but in 2000 that was very dear for a British family of four!
I stayed in the Luxor in the '00s and was blown away by how amazing our room was for the price. Sad to see the current state. If I went back and saw that Dorito non-sense I'd be furious. Sucks, because I've always wanted to go back and stay there again some day
IMO all you need in Vegas is a clean bed to crash on. You won't spend a lot of time in the room, so clean is the most important thing. Luxor is definitely past it's prime. It's neighbor the Excalibur is even worse than the Luxor. If you want to be on that side of the strip I recommend New York, New York. It's much better maintained.
I have stayed here 5X in a regular pyramid room and the east tower. You would have more theme in the regular pyarmid premier room. This does not look like its been updated. They updated the pyramid premier rooms about 2 years ago. I love them the only suite id take is in the tower room. I like the premier pyramid rooms but I dont know why they have not updated the suites. MGM doesn’t always make sense. Maybe they just don’t have that many people that stay in the suites at Luxor so they just don’t bother with them. I do know the general consensus is people prefer the tower rooms and maybe that’s why those suites have been updated but not the pyramid. The linq rooms are not good. I've seen lots of reviews and it is dirty. The rooms are also the smallest on the strip. A very confusing layout. If I was going to stay center strip, I would not choose that I would choose a flamingo room at the flamingo. However, usually they are more expensive than Luxor. But you are center strip so there's always that. Harrahs can be good or bad depending on which room style you choose. The Aria has a much nicer casino with a very open ceiling and much more open. Mandalay is a nice casino too. The Doritos add was just for the super bowl. The shops at mandalay bay have a great pizza place that is much better. Yes it has lost so much theme. MGM does not care about the theme.

This is a little upsetting to me, but not really surprising knowing the current state of Las Vegas. This was the hotel we stayed at for our first family trip to Vegas, and I believe it would have been within a year or two after Luxor had first opened. I would have been around 8 or 9 at the time and LOVED anything to do with ancient Egypt, so I remember being excited for the stay and it was very memorable. At the time the theming was definitely more encompassing. Maybe it is just me and the nostalgia, but the 90s Vegas push to make it more family friendly and to build themed hotels did kind of make it feel like a magical place as a kid. I've considered going back, as I don't live too far from it now, but I just know I will be disappointed. Also, my dad wasn't even a gambler, and so the few times we went in the 90s was really just for the experience of Vegas and it was an enjoyable experience even as a kid.
I have to say, Diablo’s Cantina was a very pleasant surprise for me when I was there last year. Food was good, but service was amazing. One of the managers was visiting all the tables, doing magic tricks and was just super kind and funny. Really impressed me. I tend to like MGM properties and while the Luxor is indeed a bit long in the tooth, there are some bright spots. Hey, it’s Vegas. But def check out Diablo Cantina. Great review, love the channel.
We were there at the Luxor in May 2024.. (but we stayed elsewhere)... that tram did the same thing when we were there..eliminating the one stop.....we did attend both the Fantasy show & Carrot Top and ate at the same pizza place you guys did.. I just about fell over at the prices! Thanks for another great video Jake!
This basically says the building is more useful as a billboard than a luxury hotel. They don't care about customers seeing out their windows, or having nice pictures of the pyramid. They're getting paid.
I stayed in the Luxor as a kid in the 2000s. The strongest memory I have was how their free mini soaps came in pyramid shaped bottles, and the shower cap was packaged in a cardboard mini pyramid
Hm seems odd titanic belfast wouldnt want ‘the big piece’ to be on display there when surely thats kind of where it belongs other than, you know, at the bottom of the atlantic ocean. It makes more sense than in a dorito building in nevada 😕
Luxor is super dirty and it needs a complete refurb, like close it down for 1 year refurb. Looking up at the textured finish on the ceilings, its super filthy with black soot covering what used to be white!!! Its gross! The elevators (inclinators) are super rickety and feel like parts of the rollers are missing chunks. The doors wobble and shake badly and feel unsafe. Our room had a jacuzzi tub that looked old and dirty. One of the A/C units was broken and the other barely kept the room tolerable. The metal frame for the bathroom door had dime sized rust holes in it at the bottom next to the floor. The shop merch is not great at all. The only good thing I can say about the hotel is its cheap. My parents used to go to the Luxor in the 90's and they loved it! They raved about the boat ride and were very disappointed when it was taken out. They also used to have much more Egyptian Themed things in the hotel. Now, you quickly lose sight of where you are once inside and it seems just like any other hotel/casino. The tee-shirts my parents used to bring back in the 90's were cool looking and well made. Now they're very generic and mediocre. If they arent going to repair Luxor to its former glory, they should just implode it. I will say this though, DO NOT STAY AT THE LINQ!!! The elevators there are super slow and you feel like you're spending most of your time waiting for one. When you do get one, its packed full and you may have to wait for another. Sure, it seems like the Luxor Inclinators will kill you, but at least you feel like you'll get out of the hotel before half the day is over!
You hit the nail on the head, stayed there last weekend and it’s definitely an interesting experience. The ten dollar slice confounded us, but the chicken finger spot next to it was excellent. Riding the inclinators is also terrifying lmao
I stayed in Luxor when I went to Vegas for the first time in 1999, as a 15 years old kid, it was decent and fun, I had good memories there including their buffet, went back there a couple times and sad to see it not only makes no modernization whatsoever, but continue to deteriorate over time.
Its as always incomprehensible to me that so many US tourist sites are even in business. The food looks below what youd accept from a local fast food place but way over priced. Everything is dated, broken or just poorly thought out, and then as with seemingly every big attraction in the US, you have to take a second mortgage for the experience... its completely insane. Will never visit any of these mad resorts, including disney and all that crap
I stayed here a night when I went out to Vegas for my brother's wedding a couple years ago. I got hardcore vibes of being in a Foucault panopticon whenever I'd walk to/leave the room looking down into the lobby/theatre area. They had a full-scale advertisement laid over the pyramid that was almost entirely black; my room was one covered by said advertisement and it never went below like 90 degrees thanks the ad absorbing heat and bleeding it into the room. It also smelled like cigarette smoke everywhere because of what I can only assume was from the hotel's open layout, smoke from the casino floor just works its way up. 1/10 never again. The other hotel I stayed at was average in like every respect, but I appreciated it because of how bad the luxor was.
That interior atrium is insane. I get vertigo whenever I look up. As others mentioned it's a real shame the theming has been all but eliminated. I freaking hate MGM!
I remember going there with my family as a kid, shortly after it opened. I don't remember the river ride, but apparently we took it because my parents remember. I mostly remember all of the games on the upper (sort of) floor. Each night I'd beg my parents for money, then go spend it on Daytona USA and other arcade machines and ice cream. It was a great vacation lol
The Luxor is a fascinating look at 90's postmodern Vegas architecture, by far one of the most interesting buildings in the city. Shame there's not really much more then that, the Memphis pyramid shows how hard it is to utilize that kind of space even if it is a Bass Pro Shop.
I remember when I stayed there around 10 years ago, even then it looked a bit worn out. It was not the cleanest, and the room was not the most Egyptian-themed. It felt a bit like a Comfort Inn more than a Vegas icon. In fact, we had to ask to change rooms because the first one we went to reeked of cigarette smoke. The pyramid design and the main areas were quite cool, and I remember enjoying the Titanic exhibit. We only stayed there because our flight was canceled and rebooked for another day, and we were in the MGM Grand for most of the trip, which was a great hotel. Remember when it still had the real lion exhibit? And I am very much looking forward to your QM2 video.
Please please visit Downtown Vegas the real Vegas! Arts District downtown is a must! Stay at the English Hotel next time! Hit us when u in Vegas we'll show you true local spots!
I think this room is pretty similar to so many others like it here in town. Many places are wearing away and rotting down on the inside, and new construction competes so well with refurbishment out here.
Many years ago, we went to the Titanic exhibit and we found the Luxor dated and quite dirty then. We were staying at the Wynn, the Luxor reminds us of a Myrtle Beach hotel.
I stayed there in April. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either. It was far to walk everywhere. It was hard to navigate the whole thing. You have to walk across a casino floor to find your hotel room everytime you leave. When I was there everything was closed. The playground, the titanic thing, everything was closed.
To me, Strip hotels end at NYNY and MGM. So Luxor is off Strip to me. The last time I stayed there was late 2022, we got one of the nicer rooms, and it was mediocre by definition. it was also pretty gross because there were dirty clothes inside the drawers from, I hope, previous guests 😅. But yeah, that price is the only saving grace. It's such a shame that modern Las Vegas just doesn't have any fun themes anymore like it did when I was growing up. Everything is now just sleek clean and efficient. Even the older hotels that have survived get pretty bland renovations.
I knew a lawyer in Vega who told me the Luxor started to sink just after they opened. They had to close the river ride because water was always leaking. The elevator (incline) was having problems due to the shifting of the building and could not reach the top floors. The remodel done soon after opening was to help correct the problems.
I had to spend a week in Vegas to photograph a Tyson fight. Except for the low-priced food everything else was gaudy and boring. What a waste of electricity the whole town is. Between Vegas and LA, what a terrible thing to inflict on the Colorado River. It’s a national shame.
Last time i stayed at the Luxor... I got so unholy sick, I had to go to the hospital. We were traveling from CO to CA for Christmas to see my extended family, I unfortunately spread it to almost my entire family. Thankfully I was the worst one hit, but we where very worried for my grandparents once they got it.
8:09 You said "Fantasy" is a very family-friendly show. I saw it about 15 years ago, and unless it has changed, I would call it a mildly risqué adult show which included topless female dancers.
I stayed here within the last two weeks. I was excited, but ended up feeling pretty bored. I always loved the building and have memories of it, but it’s just not even average. The WALK to get to the rest of the strip is wildly long. The monorail actually stops running pretty late, so you’re at minimum looking at 15-30 minutes depending on your pace to ride the Park MGM monorail that does run 24/7 (but was broken down when I was there last). This property does have some use cases and I’d stay there again… but there are some relative sacrifices you are making over choosing another one, if price is equal to other options. Park MGM is bland (to me) but Eataly provides way better walking distance food options. During off days, it’s pretty much in the same price category. It’ll probably be my off days MGM property in Vegas now… Edit: Meant to say the monorail stops running pretty early. I think it’s 11PM.
We paid $600 this last week for one night for the most basic room. This is the cheapest room we could find in Vegas. Vegas was slammed a concert, bull riding and NASCAR all on the same weekend. It was absolutely brutal.
Stayed there my 1st time in LV back in 96 and it was so nice that I stayed agin in 98, on my 3rd visit in 14 it was noticeably a lot worse even though we were in the newer tower building.
That room price is really not that bad, I was surprised. The room is worn out and all, but after watching your videos on this channel a while, other companies would not bat an eye charging double that price because you're staying at a "landmark Las Vegas hotel" or whatever.

Bright Sun at the Luxor, fantastic YT premis.
I will say that the Tower rooms are typically much nice than the ones in the Pyramid.
1:05 wait.. are there pyramids that aren't man-made?
Came to ask the same question
8:24 😍😍😍😍😍😍 Titanic Artifact Exhibition!!!
Also 9:34 the middle top photo is Olympic in the 1920s; Olympic had a 4 bladed center prop while Titanic had 3
Carrot Top having a residency show tells you everything you need to know.
Which is what? He has a great show.
I feel like Vegas is painfully American in a way that really turns me off, and I’m pretty patriotic.
One of my fav channels Great flow and cinematography
I was in Las Vegas in August and the tram was not making all the stops then either. Everyone was really confused!
I stayed at luxor maybe 2 years after it opened while on a family trip…it was a really cool experience. Too bad it has not been kept up.
Thanks for another great video Jake!
lol, I'm from Belfast and we make SUCH A BIG DEAL out of the Titanic, its always wierded me out a bit.
The Chrysler building is STILL THERE? Safiya Nygaard's "I stayed at every resort on the strip" video found that there over a year ago.
This basically says the building is more useful as a billboard than a luxury hotel. They don't care about customers seeing out their windows, or having nice pictures of the pyramid. They're getting paid.
We usually stay at the Venetian but Luxor has always fascinated me for some reason so thank you for this!
Stayed here in 2013 for a week. Was ok but then asked to pay a "resort fee" on leaving. Put me off going to Vegas again
I just wanna say - I like your videography style.
I DID enjoy the video and I DO want to see more
I stayed in the Luxor as a kid in the 2000s.
It makes more sense than in a dorito building in nevada 😕
have you been to the Titanic Museum in Belfast? now THAT is a museum. absolutely worth the trip.
After watching Safiya Nygaard's vegas hotel videos, circus circus is def the family friendly hotel between the two 😂
When he mentioned the food court I was trying to remember if it was Luxor that had Johnny Rockets or not. 😅
Honestly, it's kind of sick how we've made the sinking of the Titanic into such a cash cow.
It's kind of hilarious comparing this to the Fountainbleau. Your review there was so positive while this... this... oh god
I just miss theming :( It was fun!
I loved the Titanic exposition, one of the highlights of my Vegas trip!
Many years ago, we went to the Titanic exhibit and we found the Luxor dated and quite dirty then. We were staying at the Wynn, the Luxor reminds us of a Myrtle Beach hotel.
When I visited Las Vegas, I drove by the pyramid at night. The beacon was absolutely FILLED with so many bugs that it was hard to even see the light!
That slice of pizza looked really bad, Where was the cheese? And the pepperoni looked very unappealing. I could just tell she wasn't gonna like it.
"The place is a shithole. Nobody stays there." George Clooney's character in Up in the Air.
Calling it passable was generous.
The Gastonia jumpscare really got me 😂
Clearly a competing hotel needs a Hindenburg Disaster exhibit with suitably themed gift shop merchandise. Maybe hire a balloon guy.
Las Vegas is my idea of hell.
Phoney, tasteless hell.
I knew a lawyer in Vega who told me the Luxor started to sink just after they opened. They had to close the river ride because water was always leaking. The elevator (incline) was having problems due to the shifting of the building and could not reach the top floors. The remodel done soon after opening was to help correct the problems.
That makes me think that the construction architects and design engineers made some mistakes. Maybe George Constanza was designing the project.
wake up babe new bright sun just dropped!!!!
I had to spend a week in Vegas to photograph a Tyson fight. Except for the low-priced food everything else was gaudy and boring. What a waste of electricity the whole town is. Between Vegas and LA, what a terrible thing to inflict on the Colorado River. It’s a national shame.
I was just there a couple months ago 😄 awesome to see you made a video about it
Last time i stayed at the Luxor...
It’ll probably be my off days MGM property in Vegas now…
Edit: Meant to say the monorail stops running pretty early. I think it’s 11PM.
We paid $600 this last week for one night for the most basic room. This is the cheapest room we could find in Vegas. Vegas was slammed a concert, bull riding and NASCAR all on the same weekend. It was absolutely brutal.
Titanic Museum followed by Bonanno Pizza (presumably named after the crime family???) is crazy
