I worked on low budget independent movies for four years as gaffer, camera, and cinematographer. Behind the scenes, making a movie is like wrangling cats and getting them all to play nicely under constant time and money constraints. It's often a miracle when you get even a bad movie finished.
@@Ron4885 I never had to deal with a big headed actor, but the unspoken rule I dealt with was to give them space and let them do what they have to to clear their heads and get into character. It's creepy watching them work. In frame, it's like they're living the moment. Behind the camera, it's like watching a clown playing make-believe and actually believing what they're doing. I've seen actor's have emotional break-down's after calling cut, because they continue to live those moments. 😬

Making yourself so hard to work with is a fascinating concept to me, because I was under the impression that peoples perception of you was how you got work in that industry? Surely being labelled a trouble maker is the worst thing that can happen for you if you want more work? I'd kill to be an actor and get such roles, and I would want to be known as someone who is easy to work with and cares about making life easier for everyone else.
I can understand why he didn't mention Cannibal Holocaust but I'd say that one is a little higher on the list. Also the Mini-Me was actually in the book, Mi'Ling who played piano and acted as man-servant to the doctor, some form of monkey or lemur I think.

From a scalped cinematographer, facial reconstruction surgery on one of the main actresses, fractured leg on another star, and continuous injuries of the main star resulting in gangrene. 20 of the crew walked out and never returned. A rumoured number of around 70 people were injured in the making of this move. Thoughty2, you must somehow cover this in one of your future videos.

I too enjoyed that movie. I thought it was a very good film, with some very real implications, seeing some of the real science people really work on at times. What went on in this movie is not really so strange, once you discover that is truly real and happening. One such project is, attaching a PC to a monkey's brain, and having a robot arm connected to the PC. The monkey was strapped to a chair so he could not move, wile food on a stick was placed in front of him. He could only feed himself if he could move the robot arm to grab the food and put it in his mouth. Interestingly enough, it worked. O.o There is a type of protect to control a mind with a PC. The Robo Rat project. Basically turning a real live rat into an RC toy or sorts. Another project more close to this film was replacing cow DNA from within a cow's egg cell with human DNA, just to see if it would start to develop. And it did, in what some would call a chimera. Not the mythical beast, but a scientific name for something made of one or more creatures. It was destroyed before It could grow into anything. It was just a test to see if it could work. The result likely would have been a human developed from the cow egg. We are not however 100% pure human anyways. We are made up of what we eat, and most of us don't eat other humans. O.o Now apply those to a secret military protect to make some form of bio-weapons. Fiction? Perhaps... >.>

I remember when they made the film Raise the Titanic in 1980 it went so far over budget that it was suggested it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic.

I remember very well going to see "The Isle of Dr. Moreau" in a local cinema shortly after its initial release. Even not knowing, all of its contentious history, it was obviously a batshit-crazy movie made by batshit-crazy peoole. The protagonist in the film looks genuinely like at any moment hes going to hold up a slip of paper for the audience to see, on which is written "being held against will/please get help".
It took me three days to finish a series of 8 seasons of 22 episodes at 50 min each. My brain felt like mush for two days. I probably should have slept.

The Titanic physical set was 90% the length of the actual ship but the same height and width, which caused massive problems for the effects team who had to integrate footage of the set with footage of their Titanic scale models, which were of course, built to the correct proportions, so nothing ever lined up properly.
Thank you, you included some of the most trouble films ever. If you do a part two you should included the following. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, cost nearly $46 million box office $8 million, and left some of the actors traumatised. As well as Jodorowsky's version of Dune a film that was reported to be between 10 to 13 hours long, lots of madness in movie land. I remember reading a quote by Mel Brooks that I cannot find, were he says that The Producer, was less a comedy then a documentary of the madness of the film industry.

I never stopped laughing through this whole video. It really made me appreciate movie making, the actors staff, etc. I knew some staff and actors have put their lives at risk during productions but this was amazing.
So I remember seeing the Titanic in the movie theaters. The moment DiCaprio was in the scene the screaming from the girls in the audience was just simply shocking and it went for so long they had to restart the movie... never seen anything like it
Titanic might have been a good earner, but as a film it is utter shite. Full of plot holes and silly writing, it will never be remembered as a great film.
The strangest thing about Apocalypse Now is that none of those actors are bad at their jobs...and they are all blowing it. At least you eventually got to the Island of Dr. Moreau. Never have I seen a stranger film.
As always, another brilliantly entertaining video by Arran Lomas. Just a couple of minor quibbles: 1) The submarine dives on the real Titanic were part of pre-production. They were made a year before the 'set' even began construction, and were what set the scene for Cameron to aim for authenticity (Although, the 'authenticity' only extended to the setting, and the actual details of what he showed was mostly fiction). 2) The set itself was not a 90% scale reproduction of the Titanic - it was actually a full scale reproduction, but with about 10% chopped out in two sections, making the overall size 90% of the real Titanic (of the section they built anyway, which was actually just from the forward well deck to the poop deck, starboard side only - over 60% of the exterior of the ship was never built for the film).
If James Cameron was the director for a post apocalyptic movie, he'd literally hire geneticists to mutate coronavirus and turn an entire city into real life zombies.

I wanted to argue that Roar had a worse production, but at least Island of Dr. Moreau has an unintentionally hilarious history, while Roar is just terrifying and sad. Also noted that no one mentions David Thewlis, who plays the main character in IoDM, which I suppose means he was a professional OG on set like always.
I saw The Island of Dr. Moreau as a child. Just saw it the one time. Was probably around 6-8. I'm 34 now and as soon as I saw the thumbnail for this I was like "The Island of Dr. Moreau?" That film has staying power in the mind. lol
Jurrasic Park 3. Got all of the actors in on one script, which they scrapped entirely just before everyone arrived. Proceeded with NO script, basically making it up as they went along, often scrapping many of those things, too. And that's only the beginning. The TH-cam channel Klayton Fioriti has a number of videos talking about it. One of the actors famously ranted about it many times, publicly.

I find it amazing that the myth "this film / song is too long to be popular" continues to be put about. When has anyone ever sat down to watch a film or listen to a song wondering if it's going to be too long? The only time length becomes an issue is if the film / music is crap and even then being crap is the real problem - a short crap film's only advantage over a long crap film is the misery being over sooner... the cinema still have your money. Conversely a good long film is no problem at all, especially if the length is required to tell the story properly.

Plenty of crazy films in this review. But I miss a mention to "Fitzcarraldo" directed by Werner Herzog and starred by Klaus Kinski. There are not many films where some native extras offer themselves to the director as sicars to finish a crazy actor.

So I remember seeing the Titanic in the movie theaters. The moment DiCaprio was in the scene the screaming from the girls in the audience was just simply shocking and it went for so long they had to restart the movie... never seen anything like it

As always, another brilliantly entertaining video by Arran Lomas. Just a couple of minor quibbles: 1) The submarine dives on the real Titanic were part of pre-production. They were made a year before the 'set' even began construction, and were what set the scene for Cameron to aim for authenticity (Although, the 'authenticity' only extended to the setting, and the actual details of what he showed was mostly fiction). 2) The set itself was not a 90% scale reproduction of the Titanic - it was actually a full scale reproduction, but with about 10% chopped out in two sections, making the overall size 90% of the real Titanic (of the section they built anyway, which was actually just from the forward well deck to the poop deck, starboard side only - over 60% of the exterior of the ship was never built for the film).
If James Cameron was the director for a post apocalyptic movie, he'd literally hire geneticists to mutate coronavirus and turn an entire city into real life zombies.

I wanted to argue that Roar had a worse production, but at least Island of Dr. Moreau has an unintentionally hilarious history, while Roar is just terrifying and sad.

I saw The Island of Dr. Moreau as a child. Just saw it the one time. Was probably around 6-8. I'm 34 now and as soon as I saw the thumbnail for this I was like "The Island of Dr. Moreau?" That film has staying power in the mind. lol

I love the dedication and attention to detail put into making Titanic. It truly was a labour of love and I'm so glad all that hard work paid off.
Yet the ship sinking was a sub plot to the romantic love interest. What an absolutely ridiculous plot line to follow considering the subject matter and the resources involved.

I live in Australia and I found it stiflingly hot, but Brando was dressed for a New York winter. He was trying hard not to be recognised, but most people were wearing t-shirts and shorts. What a nut.

I find it amazing that the myth "this film / song is too long to be popular" continues to be put about. When has anyone ever sat down to watch a film or listen to a song wondering if it's going to be too long?
The only time length becomes an issue is if the film / music is crap and even then being crap is the real problem - a short crap film's only advantage over a long crap film is the misery being over sooner... the cinema still have your money.
Conversely a good long film is no problem at all, especially if the length is required to tell the story properly.

Plenty of crazy films in this review. But I miss a mention to "Fitzcarraldo" directed by Werner Herzog and starred by Klaus Kinski. There are not many films where some native extras offer themselves to the director as sicars to finish a crazy actor.
