I don't know of other episodes based on real life, but the story that does sadly come to mind is how the Thunderbirds Are Go episode based on City Of Fire (Inferno) was never released in the UK due to its similarity to the Grenfell Tower fire (although it was eventually released as a bonus episode on the DVD)

I’ve seen that episode on Prime and it is quite sad about thousands of lives Were was lost at Grenfell and every year everyone put there lights to blue to remember the fire and also it was not long after or before Manchester attack I wish I was a hero saving thousands of lives everyday

I didn't know that this sort of thing actually happened, BRILLIANT FAB FACT!

Crashes by The De Havilland Comet back in the 1950s due to metal fatigue were obviously influential in Thunderbirds.
When Fireflash crashes in "Operation Crash Dive" they immediately suggest metal fatigue as the cause.

The one of the lighthouse actually happened not to far from me. The lighthouse is on block island south of Rhode Island. I visited it a couple years back and it’s still there

I wonder if the Aberfan disaster of 1966 had any impact on episodes where there were hillslides? The one that comes to mind is that a demolishion vehicle that was trapped half way up a mountain was rescued by Scott holding it in position with TB1 and Virgil Lifted it to safety.
I'm not sure whether the Aberfan disaster was too late?

    "Involving an equally unlikely event..."
    My first thought: The Uninvited?

my first thought was actually Day of Disaster because the TV Tropes page on that episodes literally mentions the plot as a "contrived coincidence"

@@plazasta Ah, Day Of Disaster. At six years old I had a Saturn V model, a Tonka Jeep to put it on and the Dinky Thunderbirds 2 & 4. All I needed to recreate the episode over and over.

@@plazasta I was lucky. We didn't have much money all through my childhood, but my mother found that if she told her mother that she was thinking if buying a particular toy for me, my grandmother would rush out and buy it herself to upstage my mother.
Sometimes it pays off to have a bit of dysfunction in the family.

One of scary thing "terror in New York City" is when Virgil is shown been trapped in a fire...cut back 1967 where the Apollo 1 crew where the real Virgil Gus Grissom was killed in a fire. That is very creepy indeed.

What great info bits of History forgotten you present. Thanks for keeping them coming. I have a picture of a B-24, literally standing on its nose in a WW2 landing accident. The cockpit area is completely demolished, but the res of the crew escaped relatively unharmed. Would love to share it with you.

I read somewhere that an airfield landed a twin engine Cessna with stuck undercarriage on a flatbed truck.

Cool! Also I've seen videos of a Cessna almost doing a VTOL when the wind is right. :-)

In the Doctor Who episode *Dark Water* where The Doctor talks about his meeting with Sylvia Anderson, they missed the chance to suggest that the Doctor give bits and pieces of the future to her like Tower building being caught on fire (Grenfell), railway accidents caught by a faulty signal (Paddington Rail Disaster) oil rig blowing up (Deepwater Horizon) the collapse of a famous skyscraper (Twin Towers) and an accident in a nuclear plant station that caused radiation to leak out to the population (Chernobyl). Then she brought all those events to the writers to come up with a story around them and we got these episodes
    City of Fire
    30 Minutes After Noon
    Brink of Disaster
    Atlantic Inferno
    Terror in New York City
    The Might Atom

What about the episode "Atlantic Inferno", about a collapsing oil rig? It gad to be rescheduled because the dsy it was supposed to br transmitted, a NorthSea rig called, Sea Gem collapsed.
Also. "Danger At Ocean Deep" was based on actual incidents of Liquid Natural Gas tankers exploding in mid-Atlantic.
