    In my own personal head-canon, World Space Patrol, WASP, International Rescue & Spectrum all exist in the same universe.

      Both Lt Green and Capt. Grey did tours with the WASP. In fact, Grey was the first commander of the then-experimental submarine, which later became known as Stingray.

      @@StavrosIII Fair call, I have to say I never really considered there to be a connection. When you're 10, the fact that the Daleks were on the BBC and Gerry Anderson's shows were on ITV was enough to keep them separate. A crossover story could have been amazing but the copyright legislation would have been beyond labyrinthian.

      My personal head-canon is based on the puppet styles (Fireball/Stingray/Thunderbirds in one universe with Scarlet and Joe 90 in a second universe)

    • @frankberry9642

      @@abrindley123 That sounds like your divide is on the evolution of the marionettes since Scarlet and Joe 90's characters had a more realistic head/body proportionality. By back story lore Scarlet would take place within the timeline of the earlier shows. Joe 90 is harder to pin down since so much of the settings look relatively contemporary.

    My place of work overlooks railway retracts and because of the snow they were unloading some sort of snow blower from a flatbed wagon. All I could hear was the Thunderbirds theme. Looked like the mole and fireflash’s little brother. I did look round for a big green pod. Yknow just in case.

  • @brianartillery

    TV21 comic did have stories that ran several of the shows into a coherent universe - Fireball XL5, Stingray, and Thunderbirds, later adding Zero-X and Captain Scarlet. The Lady Penelope stories preceeded the Thunderbirds strip, and, indeed, were used to introduce the idea of Thunderbirds before it aired. Supercar, and Joe 90 were not part of this shared universe, as it's intimated that they both took part at an earlier time period, possibly the 1990's. A great example of a TV21 (and that's what we kids all called it at the time) crossover, was the 2065, sorry, 1965 Fireball XL5 story, 'The Astran Assassination', which features Fireball XL5, of course, but also Stingray and Lady Penelope and Parker, attempting to stop an intergalactic war. It's brilliant, and all the bits lock together perfectly. If it were done today, people would be going nuts over it.

    • @Bravie2001
      @Bravie2001 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem with Fireball XL5 and Lady Penelope appearing together is that the technology of the World Space Patrol, with ships routinely flying to other planets, was far more advanced than that of Penelope's era, with Zero-X making the first manned flight to Mars. Of course when you're seven years old, as I was when TV21 was coming out, you don't notice that sort of thing!

    • @TheSmart-CasualGamer
      @TheSmart-CasualGamer ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Bravie2001 There's ways around that. Maybe Mysteron energies destroyed probes and satellites heading to Mars, so the Fireball ships were sent to places that wouldn't immediately kill the astronauts.
      Or you could just nudge them up the timeline a bit...

    Great blog and a tribute to the fantastic work by the Century 21 team. Looking back, TV21 and all the linked marketing work was cutting edge and growing up in a world of black & white television, the comic and its summer specials, annuals, cards, records, etc were the only way to find out what the shows looked like in colour! 🚀😎

  • @melkiorwiseman5234
    @melkiorwiseman5234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's no secret that in Gerry Anderson's imagination, the worlds of Thunderbirds, Stingray and possibly also Fireball XL5 were the same world, either at the same time or at least having knowledge of each other, possibly as past events in the case of XL5.
    I can remember that there was a TV-21 story which featured a crossover between Fireball XL5 and Dr Who, with Steve Zodiac having to go up against the Daleks. Anderson didn't worry over-much about how these worlds intersected. What mattered more to him was telling a good story which captured the imagination of the reader.

    Well Gordon Tracy was a member of W.A.S.P before joining International Rescue according to his bio.
    I've always thought that Fireflash wouldn't work in the real world with the engines right up at the top of the tail and the cockpit in there too. It would be a proper tail sitter of an aircraft because the amount of weight needed would make it too heavy on the nose

    • @fredbloggs8072
      @fredbloggs8072 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's probably true about Fireflash. It is said that the Concorde designers & engineers, during their tea breaks, worked out how Thunderbird 2 could have actually flown in the real word. I bet if they'd put their minds to it they could've done the same with Fireflash!
