I don't know how Texas operates but, sometimes we will seize a car like this (usually from a drug dealer arrest) and we will turn it into a marked unit for pursuit and sometimes for recruiting. The department I grew up around had a Camaro we turned into a DARE car and a Trans Am that we turned into a regular marked unit out on patrol. They were both seizures. All we had to do was prove they were used in the commission of a crime and we were able to seize them.

Hey that's at Coopers in Llano! I was wondering about this car not too long ago. It was just their PR car, I don't think they ever used it for pursuit. I have a photo of it at some event a little before this time frame.
Yeah they never really use it for pursuit unless they have to in rural areas with little backup. If they’re out and about and something pops up you betcha they’ll do it. (RET. DPS)

It was all good stuff until some corvette driver claimed the trooper baited him into racing and then lit him up and ticketed him. That car disappeared .. to be replaced by the 5.0 fox body mustang ... if that is anywhere west of I-35 I would expect DPS to be running challengers, chargers, ZL1s, hellcats, scatpacks, king cobras et al... dopers and the like have them.. why not LE.
In my day I was happy driving the 96 Caprice with the Corvette engine on it. It was good for 157 mph and best of all it had no stinking tattle-tale camera.

My '98 T/A only had a top end of 160-165 & even the new police Chargers go only 155 so I dont think that your '96 Caprice weighing 4400 lbs with 260hp went 157 mph

In addition, if I (as an officer) pull up in front of a bike (as you eventually have to slow down), and you run into or around me, it can be the additional felony offense (as this “runner” has already committed three) of assault with a deadly weapon. Been riding probably about as long as you’ve been alive young buck….raced AMA CCS with legends….and sadly worked many a bike accident scene due to idiotic, untrained cyclists who think they can ride…..until they can’t. Not every runner out there is a skilled rider and if a cop (who they know has training) runs up on them, I can guarantee 75% will pull over. The main reason most runners run is because they know a bike can out accelerate a car from a stop. Even the playing field and we won’t have as many runners. Simple. With spike strips you set LE up with lawsuits for intentional harm to a rider….which the result of blown tires is much different for a bike than a car. (Which to me shows your lack of knowledge and inexperience with LE operations). I mean hell, if that were the way we go to take down a rider, why not just string some piano wire across the road? 😂

The ones I was talking about were more specifically targeted at sport bikes, who feel they can run just because…..and it’s become an idiotic mindset of teens and ingrown adults who think it is some kind of accomplishment to run from the cops. - Roadblocks take time to set up, as well as blocking traffic, which from a LE perspective creates more accidents usually (rubberneckers, people not paying attention) and therefore then really creates a traffic problem. - Spike strips are more for cars, which have a more stable platform when tires blow. It also sets the department up for a possible lawsuit for rider injuries caused by the act.

Really fun, and surprisingly good on gas (23mpg) for 2 1/4 tons with me in it & that 392 ci. 😻🫶 I’ve got a 1971 Buick Riviera GS; that’s a 455 with a quadratjet carb and turbo 400 tranny. I might break double digits in the gas mileage going downhill with a tail wind and the AC off! 😳🫣 It masses about the same, but the 455 only makes 330 HP\455 ft lb to the Challenger’s 470\470.
