  • I was absolutely buzzing to have the opportunity to attend the JEWSON LIVE on Tour 2024 event at the NEC! While it's mainly aimed at builders, I couldn't contain my excitement to explore what decorative and painting products Jewson had on offer. With my camera, tripod, and trusty Saramonic dual mics in hand, I was ready to dive into the vibrant world of home improvement and see what gems awaited me at the exhibition.

    That is good stuff CT1 and OB1 gone back to a lot stringing jobs and stress joints etc 2-3 years on still good. But does bugger your gun up so yourll have to price in your gun too though a bit of wd 40 might help before hand. A other reason why standard decorators caulk fails is cause hardly anyone is stabilising the cracks etc before their bedding caulk into crack filled with loose material and dust

    30 two inch pure bristle perfections in stock
    Stupid mistake ditching natural bristles brushes
    New builds still being painted with various oil based products
    I use synthetics for emulsion
    Oils still a better finish and more suitable for my part if the industry

      Need em short an sharp to pull gloss out especially in cold plots which is the norm on new builds

    Phil don't use the peel tec I used it to strip a garage door took 9 cans takes one coat off just like a general paint stripper does just get your blowlamp out or heat gun Its only handy for stripping painted UPVC even then its not as good as solvent based stripper which is cheaper and goes further. I'd give it to them its good idea more aimed at the laymen

    A different question if I paint my composite front door, can I do it with a 4inch roller as well as a brush if so what roller do recommend to speed my action of painting as as you said it dries very quickly

    Calling bs on the FC1, it’s nice to use as a caulk but him saying it doesn’t shrink is incorrect! I’ve used it for both filling small imperfections and on gaps and each time it’s shrunk! Goes on nicely though but no better than any other imo

    Thats the thing caulk takes a while to go off most deccys paint it in an hour or next day in the morning and wonder why it cracks. HB42 caulk is the best on the market.

    That is the one thing Hamilton need to just scrap the varnish handle these no need for it the perfection max is a great brush but a few uses in acrylic rich paints its done last in cheap acrylic paints and vinyl paints. pure bristle is still great in cheap acrylics and vinyls and in masonry paint washes out good etc but again in the proper acrylics one long use with a pure bristle its done only good for a duster. I still use pure bristle a lot in anything thats no a proper acrylic can't beat a nice worn in pure bristle for windows in solvent and oil paints. you don't need to be spending all that money on plastic protection just invest in tarpaulin for exteriors and canvas sheets for interiors will last you for years especially the canvas sheets will probably last you most your career if looked after well around £5,000 worth in protection do you most your career

    Hamilton are not what they used to be in the 80’s and 90’s. Example acorn eagle 27 gold ring handle and Hamilton perfection and perfection plus for anyone who’s been painting 32 years. These were great. Bristle went down in quality since the 2000’s
    The new synthetic bristles are too short now for me. Yet the medium pile 9” sleeves are good for rolling 😊

    I would never buy any decorating things from Jewsons. Last time I ever went in there they tried to charge me £12 for a bottle of knotting I could buy anywhere else for £5. At that point they waved goodbye to me as a customer.

      @@Lloyd1885 Brewers have seen the error of their ways. I hadn't set foot in a Brewers for about 20 years until recently when they opened a new store near me. I only popped in for a laugh really and wasn't expecting to see that they have joined the real world. A few years ago I got the impression that painters and decorators weren't welcome in Brewers stores which was strange as they are a decorating store. 😂

    Yeah just what you want to see at a painting and decorating show massive signs with no painting required brilliant the trade is looking up. no decorators likes exterior work I like the money though. my workload is 50% exterior work do exteriors all year round so I'd imagine most other decorators are around 50%

    solvent based paints are still better no question and even solvent based paints aren't as good as they were in every variant primers undercoats sealers too etc solvent based will always be better but water based equivalents do the job and the average layman isn't going to care anyway but bare in mind manufacturers only started making water based equivalents when they were forced too through legislation I think thats speaks for itself really

      Hamilton Perfection Clean Edge brushes are great for thicker water based paints such as Bedec MSP and Zinsser All Coat. The short stock takes a bit of getting use to but you can get a good finish and move paint around easily. Personally I don’t like the Perfection synthetic brush though, it’s miles off brushes like Arroworthy and Oldfields IMO. I treasured my Perfection bristle brushes, still can’t beat them for finish on oil based paints.

    • @Lloyd1885
      @Lloyd1885 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@grahamstacey3149 Agree....and in my opinion Hamilton, since they have been producing synthetic brushes, have never got close to a decent product, how many versions of synthetic brushes have they brought out?...must be around 5..they cant touch the like of Purdy, Corona, Oldfields Arrowworthy...they could have been one of the market leaders, now they have been bought out by the owners of Harries who are essentially a DIY brand.
      They make a decent brush, but should be better.

    • @daltondenun858
      @daltondenun858 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I don’t mind moving with the times for the new paints but in my opinion oil based still has a big part to play in my game and for that you still can’t beat natural! Luckily I bought 10 Hamilton oval natural bristle brushes off eBay last year.
