  • Description on how I made a canvas bicycle pannier for commuter bike. I wanted something I can wear over my shoulder after riding the bike.
Use a bungee cord to hold the bag in place placing one hook on the top of the pannier and the other end the bottom of the bicycle stay.
If you can’t find the “j hooks” try Unbreakable Plastic Hooks, by Toughook, J Hook, Safe Design for School & Home. Strong and Durable - Holds Backpacks, Coats. Rainbow Set, 2.2 Inches, Pack of 7. www.amazon.com/dp/B09DR3YZGB/... not ideal. Have you tried your local Home Depot and ask for j hooks?

I have since substituted a bungee cord instead of the spring loaded clip to hold down the bag. You can buy a bag of bungee cords at the hardware or home improvement store, take one cord and hook one end to the chainstay (the part of the bicycle frame) and hook the other end to the top of the bag.

inspired by your video I did the same thing to a backpack, but I put the hooks on to the place where the arm straps meet the top of the bag so I can wear it easily. An accidental bunos us when I am wearing the bag I have two hand hooks to hook things on

The only thing I'd do different is use metric machine screws. The hex heads on your bike are almost certainly all metric

@@TravelinginMiniature i ended up getting two walmart dry bags 20L each and got some tie down straps and strapped them to the sides of the rear rack and I got room on top for a backpack. The dry bags I just figured I really need and they were like 7 bucks each at Walmart. They are white I don't like the color much but my stuff will be dry. It works

Do you mean the J hooks? I bought them at the time on Amazon. They no longer seem to be available. Try
Mokife Coat Hooks Wall Mounted, 6 Pack Single Door Hooks Heavy Duty Brushed Wall Hook Stainless Steel, Large J Metal Hook for Hanging Clothes Jackets Robes Towels Hats Keys Bags Cups, Silver a.co/d/82PnJ5X
but it might need a little bending.

I did away with the clips, instead I am now using a short bungee cord. One end is attached to the rear drop out (right by the rear axle) and the other end is placed on the top of the pannier. This now holds the bag more firmly to the rear rack and when you want to take the pannier with you, simply on hook the bungee cord from the top of the pannier, hook It to the rear rack and your done! Simpler, faster and cheaper.

James Isaacs I LOVE your pannier! Awesome job! Question- I am trying to buy the little plastic J-hooks on Amazon and when I searched "j hooks" - oh baby, 28,000 plus came up! Ack- I looked thru pages and pages- nothing came close. Can you help?
I'd love to make this pannier!

I checked Amazon (Jandd Pannier J Hook with Rubber Protector) where I bought them and they appear to be discontinued. But I just did a kick search and found them here: www.jandd.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FWSA-HJH and here www.modernbike.com/jandd-pannier-j-hook-with-rubber-protector
