      Ya it will work perfectly for any mini. more filter area = easer filtering

    Hi Paul, another fantastic video, so much useful information and advice. Things like the way you fit the manifold into the pipes might seem mundane, but it’s gold dust to most of us. Love the little Falcon ratchet: the first tools I ever bought were four short Britool AF ring spanners, and since then I’ve developed a Mini toolkit which lives alongside my normal mechanic’s tools. I recently bought a Wurth miniature ratchet and compact sockets which are exquisite - little jewels. (eBay number 264258481950.). One request: my minis always suffered from rocking engines. Please could you give us more detail on the top engine steady (reinforced brackets? Poly or rubber bushes? High tensile or normal screws or bolts?) and especially on the additional bottom steadies. I see a number of different patterns for the latter: which ones work? And where are the best mounting points? Last thing : instead of captive nuts on the engine mounts, how about captive bolts, at least on the clutch end mount? I used to do that with araldite - no mig in those days - and just go carefully, and it made life a lot easier. Cheers, Will

    Great vid, my engine is out at the mo, I've been thinking about the back of my head, is there another way of connecting the heater outlet without modding the rad (mines a fletcher)?

      I think there is a few companys who sell a hose barb you connect into a rubber hose, you could use one of those to T into the top hose

    IF you have an old Hard disk drive you can tear it open and steal a magnet from that to stick on your filter too.

    Another great installment from you paul,loving the engine steady,,also loving the face youve managed to find a larger oil filter something ive tried for a while without success,, after years restoring classic fords we used to exchange the pinto and v6 essex oil filters to get a larger capacity,the wix WL7077 youre using i believe is actually a cvh ford filter...great discovery well done,,,looking forward to gretels next instalment mate..oh and as for the redirecting coolant from the rad,im defo stealing that idea..!! ive semi dry decked my block with a larger impellor water pump so thatll benefit too..

    I remember thinking perfection is unattainable so don’t waste time. Maybe it’s time I revised that. From the moment I watched the stability and alignment of the engine dropping into the bay, I knew Merlin was working his magic again. The notion of producing a bespoke mount to attach to the hoist just highlights the depth of thought and attention to detail. How easier the installation but who would think of it, let alone produce it? Well, we now know the answer to that and the idea of letting the engine float to facilitate fitting is simply brilliant but perhaps the most impressive was the radiator modification to enhance cooling of the farthest cylinder, an issue known about for years, but to the best of my knowledge, never fully resolved until ...... Compliments again for the quality, clarity and excellent close up shots, speaks volumes. Now I’m sure you all know one of the most common uses of a fire extinguisher is to hold the door open but how many thought of using it to pressure the oil system (be honest). It certainly beats cutting out the ignition and cranking until the oil light goes out. Life is starting to fly as I’m living for the next video. Keep doing it, it’s brilliant.

      Hi Ryan yes it uses an Aldon Ignitor, I do plan on making a video series on tuning the SU but its a bit down the road at the moment

    Hi Paul, another Great video, thanks, what's the comp ratio on that engine to match the 310?,and do you think you need more air room around the carb trumpets (allowal of a weber bulkhead box?) keep up the great work and vids dude 😁😎👍

      Hi Anthony the compression ratio would be circa 12:1 on this one. Yes I would love more room around the webber but due to the regulations this car is built to it must retain its original bulkhead completely

    The cooling mod you have is similar to what is done on Mk1 Mazda Mx5s. They suffer from the same problem of number 4 running hotter than Number 1.

      Ya its quite common with 4 cylinder engine where the water pump and thermostat is the same end of the engine

    Hi Paul, another great video. Regarding the engine mounts, any experience or thoughts on the poly quick release engine mounts from minisport? Would they be suitable for race or fast road cars? Cheers

      Hi Andrew, I have used them in the past, my experience is they don't really speed up the proses all that much but do have the draw back of not locating the engine as well. so in short I think the standard type mount is still be best job 👍

    Thanks again. I really like the cooling mod and your lifting attachment, we just used the standard BMC brackets that fitted on the top of the rocker box. By the way we trained our engins to jump in or out when you whistled, try it!!

    Another fantastic video Paul!
    So much more space in the Clubby engine bay. What alternator is that you run?
    The repurposed fire extinguisher is another brilliant tool you have devised. Get a Patent out on that one asap.
    Where do the small blue steadies connect on to on the gearbox?
    Ps I always wire lock the pins on gear selector coupling.

      Hi Andy, the alternator is a Nippon Denso the part number is 101211-2951. Good call on the lock wire 👍. The blue steadies connect on to drop brackets which are bolted to the side covers on both sides of the box 👍

    Great vid Paul ,would the water trick work if you had a heated inlet manifold , that's if you could find some one to braise or weld a fitting on your rad . Just love the sound of those Webber's .

      I use a pre pressurizing system which primes the hole oil system but if not using something like this its defiantly worth pre priming the filter

      I'd guess it makes taking the exhaust apart at race meetings a pain, and in theory that's only for exhaust that don't fit together too well.

      As mini Performance says, because we have to remove the exhaust with regularity the cement can really make it a pain. This quality exhaust has no leak at this point so we getaway with out it :)

    Have just watched all four videos thanks. I like the way you explain and show how the build progresses. In the past many moon's ago I played around with Mini rebuilds in my garage at home. Is a pity we didn't have these videos around then but did have David Vizards books. Really like watching you videos thanks.

      In most cases a well setup Verto can easily hold as much torque as pre-verto

    Interesting video paul. Seeing how other race cars are put together. My track mini has no clamping where the pipe meets the Y, less stress on the bottom of the engine or something like that lol. That small twisting handle ratchet looks very handy, thats gone on my tool list! 😎

      No this exhaust system comes apart very regularly so its important to keep it easy to assemble and disassemble

      HRE IRL it's been chucked whilst my back has been turned. It was basically a cone shape the bottom of the follower had worn so bad the metal was really thin and made it look like a cone shape (exaggerated) I'm open to an ideas of it could be.

    Iam building a 1380 with a 286 for the road how would it go with the Big Bore LCB.

      If its for the road then I would be inclined to stick with the 1.75 varent as it dose give more low end drivablity

      @@HREIRL Thanks i had a 1380 before with the Janspeed LCB and as you said it worked well never had the Manuflow system so i am a little apprehensive because asking ppl that use the system they can't tell you nothing about the performance .I find some ppl just build minis and really don't know what to expect.

      I notice that you used a single chain on your rebuild without the variable cam timing and still got it Dial in at 106 degrees.

    Why the quad side-draft carbs when, by the looks of it, a couple of flat-slide motorcycle carbs would likely fit better and should give equal performance?
    Great video and good looking, sounding, and, no doubt, performing, Mini!

      Hay pal, 2 main reasons 1: we are running to an FIA regulation so Webers or SU are all thats allowed. 2: we use two webers split to straighten up the inlet tract for improved flow

    Hi I am a retired bricklayer but in my younger years I would do most of the things on the cars I owe most if not all I learned about mechanics came from my father-in-law and his approach was so much like yours everything had to be checked and checked again things had to be clear very clear everything was methodical everything seemed to move at a snails pace but it was not, you are doing high performance work but it is like taking a step backward in time watching you work so addictive love watching your channel

    I can only imagine how many times you have take that engine in and out at races and as for the genius use of the fire extinguisher to get oil pressure you put the A-team and McIver to shame Paul. Great video again well done looking forward to the next one.

    Quite a lot of tips we can we can easily use on our road cars, also that Clubman front end gives you quite a lot of extra room to work in, not so many busted knuckles, lol

    Really useful tips as always. Nice idea with the filter would you recommend on standard engines without uprated oil pumps? Just wondering if there'd be detrimental effects with a potentially higher restriction with the higher capacity filter?

      Hi Callum ya this filter would be fine on a standard engine. Bigger filters are actually better for lower capacity oil pump as it gives it more area to filter through. Imagine it like a sieve the bigger the surface area the quicker you can sieve the liquid through

      Regarding the 'F' in FT for the flywheel bolt, it's probably the same as Mitsubishi implied for the Lancer EVO FQ Series lol!
