Many years ago a Man called Mark Evans made 10 thirty minute videos about his trip taking a dead MGB from a scrap yard and completely re-building it.After the first episode it was compulsive viewing. He approached the Discovery Channel and the series was so popular that he made several further series, rebuilding an E type Jaguar, a motorcycle, a racing car, a helicopter and an airplane among other things. You have as much personality and skill as he has and I really feel that you should try and approach your local TV station or Discovery again and propose something similar because what you show each week deserves to reach a wider audience. I am now resorting to buying extra large bags of popcorn getting ready for Gretel.
I am honered you put me in the Same catagory as Mark Even, I have watch all the "is born" series and I have to say they where very well produced and a joy to watch. Maybe some day we can produce somthing simlar here but with the freadom of youtube to put our own stamp on it 👍👍👍
@@williamowen2203 He did a helicopter, an airplane, a motocycle and many cars. He also did a miniseries where he traveled around Britain visiting people who were doing their own restorations and who had stopped because of various problems and he helped them finish the job. A very talented man who got his big break because as a vet he did not agree with the advice a BBC vet program was giving and when they invited him on to defend himself he was so eloquent that they made him their spokesman.
The best demonstration and set-up of a mini clutch I have ever seen. I don't know how many times I have changed a mini clutch to find the awkward bolt missing. Superglue was a good idea, I often got away with putting a small rubber hose over the top of the bolt. I doubt many go to the. trouble you do; nice to know what separates the best. Again I say, the video is excellent, clear and helpful, nothing hidden. Great as usual; this should be on the curriculum.
I baulked at changing my verto clutch with the engine in, took me days of work mind, but won in the end! Also gave me a chance to sort the oil leaks, fit new water pump and timing chain etc, and clean, tidy and paint things in general. It was helpful to have the engine out for all that. Hope my nuts don’t come off as my bolts are ‘wrong way in’, however I did make them captive with a spot of weld having determined their correct positioning. Another great video Paul, the’re all most appreciated, keep them coming! Rob
@@HREIRL HRE.. my learning curve on all things mini has begun, I have just removed my first flywheel. After watching this video, I am left wondering what exactly is the ‘diaphragm’ you refer to within the flywheel complete assembly?
That’s a job I do not like doing one bit with the engine in the bay ... you made it look easy. Great tip with the super glue and taped finger for getting the mounting bolt back in.
Great Paul I think I learned my bad language from that engine mounting bolt install you made it look easy ,the cylinder head looks the real deal I remember a lot of the cross flow minis from racing with 40 or 45s carbs thanks Paul for a great vid 👍👨🏻🏭🇬🇧
Paul ; Great instractional Video, much better than the usual manual...! It's a tough gob, for anyone, but you make it look easy! Thought of building a motorcycle type dry open clutch, modified right hand engine suport and clutch activator. 👍👍
hi paul, another great episode, you make these videos a lot more enjoyable than mine, found the superglue trick funny, with me being accident prone not sure that would end up well with me,i have in the past with tricky bolts drilled a hole through them and sent a length of welding wire through them,,only need to get the bolts near then pull the wire and the bolt come through the hole,,some people i know elongate the holes for ease but im not a fan of that,a hole is that size for a bolt that size in my mind..keep up the great work...
Hi N, thanks for you lovely coments as always, thats a very intresting Idea with the welding wire never seen it done that way but dose make sense nice 👍
Oooh Paul! Heart in mouth all the time watching this! If it had been me (accident prone by profession) within 5 minutes of taking off the breather for the drop gear housing I would have lost a 5/16 UNC bolt or washer down the orifice! Lovely clean engine, and thanks for the tape on finger super glue tip - does it work for the master cylinder clevis pins too? How does that mini ride with those Minitastic type coil springs? Thanks yet again for a super video.
Haha as yet touch wood I have never droped anything down there 😅. Not sure about the coils yet I will retain my verdict untill I have driven it a bit more :)
Hi Colin, not a case of not bothering, I have designed and machined my own key washer when used in combination with a good qulity OEM flywheel retention bolt omits the need for a lock washer 👍
@@HREIRL Is this covered in one of the other vids and is this part available to purchase from you as it's a PITA to get the flyweel off without taking the diaphram off to flatten out the lock washer?
Hi! Great video. My mini shifts worse when the engine is warm. I have noticed that it is a clutch problem, do you think it is a wear or adjustment problem. Thank you very much.
I used to work for Mr clutch & remember changing the clutches on both Mini's & Mini Metro's. We would take the whole engine out as part of the clutch job as we would replace the bronze bushing on the reverse idle gear whilst the flywheel was being reground which in my opinion was completely unnecessary on 99% of vehicles that came into Mr Clutch. It was an up sale which my manager would always convince the customer to have done at an extra cost of £25. .
Hi Paul, I was wondering if you had any ideas on why my clutch refuses to disengage when I push the clutch pedal in. I have bled the slave cylinder and adjusted the clutch arm return stop to .020 " Also I have adjusted the throw out stop. When I start the car after putting it in gear with the clutch depressed it lurches forward indicating that that there is no pressure being put on the pressure plate. I would appreciate any ideas on what could possibly be wrong.
Good evening i have a question for you .i am have serious problems with duties importing tyres and rims for my classic mine .A tyre shop here can supply me with a set of 8x13 with a 7 degree offset will these touch the shocks.
Very hard to tell with out seeing them Tyrone, what brake and hub setup is you mini running and do you know how much of the "8 is offset to the inside is it 50/50 or a different bios?

Never realised it was possible to change the clutch without removing the engine. Another day of learning something new. :)
Ya its not one of the nicer jobs but its doable and can save a bit of faffing around
@@HREIRL My engine is out so maybe I should replace the clutch (if I can work out if it needs a new one) before it goes back in.
Try doing it with a servo 😂

Genius idea with the super glue - I can see me trying that technique - keep up the good work sir.
Thanks sir, It dose work exceedingly well 😁
Best mini clutch replacement video out of hundreds, short and to the point.

I used a length of welding rod rapped it round the bolt put the washer and nut on pulled the wire off worked great
Great idea thanks for shareing
That was brilliant. Once again some great little tricks and tips. This video will be really helpful for setting up clutches in the future. Thanks HRE

Fantastic video, just a question about the locking tab on the centre bolt ? Are you able to lock it with the pressure plate on ?
How do you tab over the crank lock washer with the diaphram in place, or don't you bother with a lock washer?

Hi Carl I will check with the customer Im not 100% sure it however is a stunning colour couldnt agree more
Also would like to know this 😀
Going from my memory of BMC colours I think that it's ocean blue.
Very educational. Thank you. On another subject where did you/customer get those bonnet hinges from?
Im not sure, but I do know there not available anymore unfortunately
@@HREIRL Ok. Thanks. Do you have happen to have close up photos of the hinges? Curious to see how they worked.
When taking the breather off the dropgear housing always cover the hole with a bit of masking tape. Got the same 7port on my project mini :)

They are -7 offset.
nice minivation hinges those are not made anymore i dont think.
They are such and awsome piece of engineering its very unfortnate they are still not in production
0.35mm or .035”?
22 minutes to fit a clutch, take me that long to fit my reg plate 🤣
Haha I do like to drag things out 😁😁
Hi hre i have some problems with my.mini clutch at the moment any help? Maybe email? Tks keep it up
sure Ryan bang us an email hickeyraceengineering@gmail.com
Again another use for a magnet to put that bolt in, small magnet under a cutoff finger of rubber glove.
Love it I will deffo be trying this 👍👍
