i loooved the old urgot, he was a lane bully that noone knew how to play against. but his ult was really bad for him, most of the time you didnt want to use it unless you could get someone stuck under your tower
Just sad that he has a thing for camille legs: 1000 modified true dmg Auto reset Mv speed boost 20 mana 4s cooldown Cho'gath ult I like it too, but i also fkin hate this sht Mean while Machine gun leg goes bbbbbbbbbbbbb
So I mained old urgot and absolutely loved how goofy his build was he was amazing to play and just launch chainsaws at people halfway across the screen let alone his ult that would confuse the hell outta everyone except the user
I liked that his rework was the first implementation of visual overlays to the HUD to convey gameplay info. I think that the success and positive reception paved the way to other cool overlays like PROJECT / Sentinel Vayne during ult or being Pyke executed. I remember how freaky it was to get ulted by him and have chains cover the edges of your screen right after the rework.
The only issue was that the chains didn't retract if he was killed while ulting. I had a few deaths because I wasn't clued in to the fact I was still alive and could escape.
I made the most amazing outplay with old Urgot ult that I can still see in my mind. I was getting dove by 4 enemies under a turret and walked away after killing 2 of them Smilers.
One thing I really like about urgot that you didn't mention is his w auto rythm which basically let's a good urgot player do way more damage than you might expect purely through timing
i do think urgot gameplay is worth saving in some part , the spell pase sniper adc is cool idea to begin with ,but i do think some of his kit is kind of wired (his R key),but still good job on the video love 2 see more
The ultimate kinda makes perfect sense on him if you look at his kit as a whole. He's an anti-carry, really good at punishing people for trying to make plays (What with his acid grenade being instant at close range and a strong shield to punish you for forcing the issue on him), and the switch is honestly one of the biggest "Fuck that play you were trying to make" moves possible, both giving your team time to react to whoever was making said play and also setting them up to be destroyed the second the swap happens.
Back when I was in college me and the guys used to laugh at Old Urgot's Ult. "Hyper Kinetic Position Reverser" was such a hilariously long name for concept than can simply be called "Swap". The swap wasn't even long range it was exactly the same range as his auto-attack but the difference to DOTA 2 VS Swap was it gave you armor and MR.
Urgots ult made me scared to not have passive on Anivia, still does to this day but not as much, the idea that it also makes the body disappear is even more so to add a sense of fear. He was the first to have this effect, you know, before they have it to Lissandra's passive and then to Bel'veth, though if the coral disappears the body returns so I guess just lissandra and urgot. I wonder why they decided to do that.
He was alright in normal games, but where he truly shined was on URF. I remember having so much fun in URF with old Urgot. Not limited by his mana constraints, not encumbered by his long CDs, just focus building damage. Missed your E? It's okay, you can try again in just a few seconds. Landed your E? They are completely done for, as you spam the locked-on Q, slowing them with W, and as soon as the effect runs out you can almost immediately throw in another E. And since you could focus your build on pure damage, you would absolutely MELT your opponent. He was a whole artillery army all on his own. So much fun. So much pain and destruction. I miss the good times.
I played Urgot when he first came out and took him Mid or Top. With typical Frozen Heart and Manamune build bot lane was usually a no go. His kit was made to bully in lane with his range and engage, counter, and chase in team fights. I think with the rework it was a success. You still get to do those things but have less range now with no Q. That being said killing people as they ran away with a long range Q was so satisfying. Made a lot of people rage.
I think it’s funny most people played the old him as a tank top laner rather than as an adc that worked out way better . His e letting you auto target his q even through bushes and invis was so fun
Current Urgor actually mantains a lot of old Urgot. I will argue that the only new thing is the passive: Q: is his old E even with the lock on mechanic W: they kept the shield while also giving him offensive capabilities like the old one, the shield was later moved to the E so it would be easier to balance E: old ult but weaker R: it's actually a mega powerful version of his old Q, locks on champions, straight line missile, makes him a threat even when he is not close, can be lethal in the right situation Played both and felt that they kept the opresive playstyle of the old one quite well
i loved old urgot and miss him :( his ult was so crazy, hope they bring it back on someone else in a similar form, but I guess nowadays the ult wouldn´t only swap places but also give shields, ms, stun everyone arround him and give 100% bonus lifesteal or some stupid shit, so I don´t know if I really want it ^^´ but new champs are coming anyway then atleast bring this fun ability back
I hope they bring back Oldgot's playstyle. He was my second favorite champ to play. A fairly slow but tanky artillery piece that, if played properly, was so difficult to deal with. It was like playing a slightly more mobile bunker.
The last point is why I feel like this is why Urgot's rework success does not invalidate Aatrox's rework failure. Old Urgot's style just wouldn't work and this new one fits him far better. Old Aatrox was a draintank juggernaut focused on Auto attacks and deciding which form of on-hit to use at each moment (extra damage vs extra sustain). I like new Aatrox, but it was not necessary to rework his playstyle away from auto attacks.
I think Urgot is THE forgotten champion, i can't remember seeing him except once 6 months ago, and yes, there are other champs like Ivern or Skarner, but they've got the reputation of not being picked, Urgot doesn't even has that, no one knows him, no one remembers the crab man. And for this very reason he's fucking fire lvl 1, shreds everything to tears.
near the end of the old versions life i played him top marumana into tank his old passive and his ult was the only way this was sorta good a 15% damage reduction to any target that you auto or Q was kind op
I used to main old Urgot, seeing other player having no clue against this champ was quite funny. Once they got hit by Urgot's E, and I have the BC and Manamune combo, their health bar would be gone so fast. And there's one time my team was doing Baron, enemy adc came interupting us, and the good ol' switcheroo got it gangbanged by my team, and I survived because the R gave tons of resistance when used.
Ok old urgot main here- the vgu/rework was necessary as most of the kit can be adjusted to not make the kit redundant. I would have made the corrosive charge slow as well and adjust the w. I would make the new w either a damage ability or passive/steroid which would shield urgot upon activation and adjust the ult as well. I would make it the execute or something similar. I would adjust the passive to make it grant attack speed and damage reduction. Thats it. He just needed light adjustments and buffs. I would also buff the q's damage and do increased damage if you have hit them with consecutive qs in quick succession. This would stack 5 times, but only unlocks after reaching 6. This would make it so he can't steamroll you right away. I personally liked the idea of a ranged skirmisher/caster marksman
I LOVED prerework Urgot. He was a meme pick before certain changes went through, mainly the rework on his Shield, his Swapper and how his basic attacks worked. Before he was kinda of a trolly ranged bruiser that sometimes won through matchup knowledge and sometimes through actual counterpicking. Urgot on his first gameplay rework was a dedicated AntiMarksman and could be played either Mid, Top or Bottom Lane. He was really fun and had clear weaknesses and strengths that made him a realiable choice for many a teams. I guess his impopularity was because he was buttfreaking ugly, his fantasy of a zombiefied abomination wasn't that appealing on design and lore and his previous kit failures and low winrate users made it quite a troll pick until Competitive started picking him. When the rework was finally announced, a lot of people still played Urgot as an AntiCarry or SupportCarry that helped AD Centric teams progress. He was functional, but he also was balanced on a knife edge. I can see why Riot removed him. If he lands his skillshots, he is unstoppable and besides disengaging him, he just free damages you with zero problems until his mana bites him and if he doesn't, he kinda just wobbles about for a bit because unless he has his ultimate up, he isn't that great. I still think a champ like him can work. His Ultimate was freaking cool and the concept of a turret champ kinda still exists with Cassiopeia. If they ever return to the concept, I want them to remove the binary aspect of his lock on, but remove his innate tankiness and how invisible his statchecking really was. But to be honest, I just want another champ that has that Ult. Nothing felt better than just Ulting the ADC and having the enemy team panic into either leave him be, protect him with a cancel or try to fight their way to stop the poor thing from getting zeroed by your team. That was fun.
Old Urgots E into Q reminds me of modern Yoricks E, in the early game it has a 12 second cooldown, and it doesn't apply any pressure without graves nearby. If it does you can effectively out harass any champion except a fast autoattacker like irelia or warwick.
Btw a fun fact Tyler1 didn't make use to execute people with the ultimate in teamfights but the fear of the ultimate( ult flash) as you said and I really like the rework
I was an urgot OTP for some time pre -rework, he was pretty OP when he got his AoE fear on ult, you could not duel this champ, he was a ranged bruiser with tons of tank stats. Full armor pen runepage, manamune BC into FH/maw/LW/DD, with stormraiders it was op af. If olg Urgot was in the game, he would smash every ranged top abuser and tt would be glorious.
I really miss going full AP burst and one shotting with the old poppy. Her damage was crazy and it’s unfair that it got removed for what she is now. You could always go tank but ap and ad did insane damage and it was so fun to see people’s reaction to being one shot against a wall
Honestly current Lethality Poppy can achieve hilarious one-shot combos, it's just not as degenerate as original poppy because she can't just become damage-immune. But if you land E on current Poppy you can Q -> R ->AA and they'll die while being stunned during the whole combo.
Completely agree with this take on Urgot. I know a lot of people have said his rework is too similar to Aatrox's, but as someone who played a solid few dozen games of pre-rework Urgot I think they did a phenomenal job at keeping a lot of the old parts of his kit but readding them in clever ways.
Old urgot was used in competitive. First worlds league ever held featured a meta where Urgot would dominate bot lane alone while a support would roam the river, ward, harass the jungler, gank lanes. With how weak the old supports were, Urgot could manage to bully in a 2v1. His main problem was.. there werent many items to support his playstyle. He wasn't an adc really, he was more of an ad caster like pantheon. I bet with the current muramana, and all the lethality items, ikd urgot could work well.
Urgot was amaizing, my favorite character ever in LoL, and the idea of him being changed due to his toxic gameplay falls completly when you see new champions like Yone and Viego being manaless. Tho I like the rework is nowhere near as fun for me.
Urgot to me was always ANti-Marksman played in the bot lane. He was one of the first marksman top meta. He was supposed to be reliant on a particular build path, but of course playing him tanky and with mana pots meant that he could have consistent damage while having great durability. This ultimately sealed his fate, as he was nerfed into oblivion and eventually reworked to be exactly the same thing that made him troublesome in the first place. It was a running joke at the time that if we saw an off-meta pick at LCS that it was going to get nerfed immediately after. Riot doesn't like it when their horse and ponies are dunked on.
If I remember this right, I dont think Urgots Q was even a skillshot. I think it worked like how rumble flame thrower does, it just shoots straight in the direction he's standing.
It was a skillshot, always fired at the point where you clicked on unless someone was marked, and if there were multiple marked enemies then it would go to the closer one to where you clicked IIRC.
I always played old urgot as support, used ult to peel, and rushed black cleaver for the 45% armor shred and the passive reduction so my adc could kill any diver fast
Urgot was actually one of the better reworks in the sense that there really was no salvaging his old self. So he really needed a 100% re-imagining like this. And it worked amazingly well
If you’re going to talk about sion please PLEASE bring up the interesting parts of his kit. For the biggest example he healed his teamates for half what he healed himself. I wish that was in the game on another champion.
tbh I actually loved playing old Urgot. He was such a lame potato man it was hilarious to run around shooting tactical knife missiles at people and watch them struggle to get away. Also switching place with Yasuo as he puts up a wind wall in desparation was just always so enjoyable. He's so much healthier and better for the game now but it just aint the same...
To be honest they didn't do much with conecpt on Urgot. They just reversed his play patern. Rather that having him long range poke with close range cc to trap opponents. To close range fighter that trap opponents in his sweet spot zone, that has long range finisher if enemy wants to escape. If you think about it.
I do miss old Urgot's gameplay a bit. I think if they made a character with a different W and R it could work but it would probably be more effort than Riot wants to put into it.
Idc wat anyone says i been playing this game since you had to buy runes and yoricks rework was the most felt its impressive how they changed that “thing” into what he is now

i loooved the old urgot, he was a lane bully that noone knew how to play against. but his ult was really bad for him, most of the time you didnt want to use it unless you could get someone stuck under your tower
Just sad that he has a thing for camille legs:
1000 modified true dmg
Auto reset
Mv speed boost
20 mana
4s cooldown
Cho'gath ult
I like it too, but i also fkin hate this sht
Mean while
Machine gun leg goes bbbbbbbbbbbbb
He still is the red lobster of league of legends to me
So I mained old urgot and absolutely loved how goofy his build was he was amazing to play and just launch chainsaws at people halfway across the screen let alone his ult that would confuse the hell outta everyone except the user
Yes sir my boy urgot finally got the love he deserved
Fear Beyond Death's recast basically brings the target to your chainsaw stomach.
Or I could say... they're coming inside you.
Graves was complety removed from bot as well with his rework
Love the use of the old Lollipoppy skin to represent the old Poppy.
I think it’s funny most people played the old him as a tank top laner rather than as an adc that worked out way better . His e letting you auto target his q even through bushes and invis was so fun
Just a kickass video. Really appreciated you voicing those criticisms of Aatrox's rework as its something I completely agree with.
"Urgot just couldn't cut it as a champion" footage playing of Gravity destroying TSM lol ahhh somethings never change
10:05 graves wants to know your location
Just remember:
S H O T G U N. K N E E S.
Current Urgor actually mantains a lot of old Urgot. I will argue that the only new thing is the passive:
Q: is his old E even with the lock on mechanic
W: they kept the shield while also giving him offensive capabilities like the old one, the shield was later moved to the E so it would be easier to balance
E: old ult but weaker
R: it's actually a mega powerful version of his old Q, locks on champions, straight line missile, makes him a threat even when he is not close, can be lethal in the right situation
Played both and felt that they kept the opresive playstyle of the old one quite well
Ah yes,my favourite champion URGOR
i loved old urgot and miss him :( his ult was so crazy, hope they bring it back on someone else in a similar form, but I guess nowadays the ult wouldn´t only swap places but also give shields, ms, stun everyone arround him and give 100% bonus lifesteal or some stupid shit, so I don´t know if I really want it ^^´ but new champs are coming anyway then atleast bring this fun ability back
I hope they bring back Oldgot's playstyle.
He was my second favorite champ to play. A fairly slow but tanky artillery piece that, if played properly, was so difficult to deal with. It was like playing a slightly more mobile bunker.
RIP old Aatrox, only champ completely removed from the game
I learned how to play Ezreal just because I play old Urgot so I'm actually liking how you frequently compare them to each other
The last point is why I feel like this is why Urgot's rework success does not invalidate Aatrox's rework failure.
"raid bosses his way"
goddamn that was so beautiful!
Vars missed the opportunity to mention the SHOTGUN KNEE for 17min.
Urgot was a weird copycat of Vengeful Spirit from Dota. She is a marksman with an armor reduction spell and her ultimate exactly the same
Urgot R and his music theme is so good man
near the end of the old versions life i played him top marumana into tank his old passive and his ult was the only way this was sorta good a 15% damage reduction to any target that you auto or Q was kind op
Especially against yasuo with tabi rush
I really miss old Urgot. I mained him in S5-6, was a good time.
Old urgot: crab meme
New urgot: Shotgun Knees meme
I played so many games of old urgot, every time i was vs Zed it was a instalock freewin😄
"When your top lane is........ASHES......then you'll have my permission to die."
Totally Not Bane, 2017
Vars: he got moved from bot lane to top and beefed him up
Me who plays Urgot as a support:
**S H O T G U N K N E E S**
SHOTGUN KNEES
So no one is gonna talk about that sick lee play at 13:00
Old Urgots E into Q reminds me of modern Yoricks E, in the early game it has a 12 second cooldown, and it doesn't apply any pressure without graves nearby. If it does you can effectively out harass any champion except a fast autoattacker like irelia or warwick.
i miss old urgot so much. Hit D1 with him for the first time maining him
Btw a fun fact Tyler1 didn't make use to execute people with the ultimate in teamfights but the fear of the ultimate( ult flash) as you said and I really like the rework
Classic urgot with items today would be pretty wild
i did love old urgot. but new urgot is fun too.
I really REALLY enjoyed playing old urgot. It was a ton of fun to play and the rework made me quit the champ in it's entirety.
He plays so totally different it's really hard to find any of the same fun.
Completely agree with this take on Urgot. I know a lot of people have said his rework is too similar to Aatrox's, but as someone who played a solid few dozen games of pre-rework Urgot I think they did a phenomenal job at keeping a lot of the old parts of his kit but readding them in clever ways.
Tbf, Zeri is(was) also a tanky artillery marksman, with the "charge into enemy team" prowess of a juggernaut
Its funny because i feel like illaoi has the exact same gameplay loop as old urgot
Aatrox was a diver and became a juggernaut with the rework, so he also changed class, althought it stayed in the fighter group.
"The only rework which changed the intended role"
Gr... oh wait that wasn't the *plan*
Urgot was amaizing, my favorite character ever in LoL, and the idea of him being changed due to his toxic gameplay falls completly when you see new champions like Yone and Viego being manaless. Tho I like the rework is nowhere near as fun for me.
6:41 "Weirdest ability in the game"
It's just a Nether Swap.
One step closer to Sion.
His shotgun knees are really cool
I miss old urgot, tbh I miss the Q+E mechanic, that felt good, having that heat seaking missile was so good, wish rito bring that mechanic back
wish there could be more eldritch-/ Lovecraftian-themed skins like the crab god urgot or thousand-pierced volibear. what a masterpiece.
Graves had his role changed drastically with his rework 😁
Urgot to me was always ANti-Marksman played in the bot lane. He was one of the first marksman top meta. He was supposed to be reliant on a particular build path, but of course playing him tanky and with mana pots meant that he could have consistent damage while having great durability. This ultimately sealed his fate, as he was nerfed into oblivion and eventually reworked to be exactly the same thing that made him troublesome in the first place. It was a running joke at the time that if we saw an off-meta pick at LCS that it was going to get nerfed immediately after. Riot doesn't like it when their horse and ponies are dunked on.
even tho the new urgot is better. I miss the old one :/
The days of Urgod is no more
I always played old urgot as support, used ult to peel, and rushed black cleaver for the 45% armor shred and the passive reduction so my adc could kill any diver fast
got to plat 4 with it btw, so not the best ever, but for sure not a troll pick like people thought
urgot is one of the best if not the best reworks for me
Yeah, new Urgot is one of the coolest rework Riot ever did... But old Urgot was so fun to play!!
Urgot was actually one of the better reworks in the sense that there really was no salvaging his old self. So he really needed a 100% re-imagining like this. And it worked amazingly well
Just one thing
SHOTGUN KNEEEES
ah yes urgot thechamp whos god in every phase
"Meme Crab" I love you.
6:04 was SOOOO WELL PLAYED OMG! Orgasmic ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
If you’re going to talk about sion please PLEASE bring up the interesting parts of his kit. For the biggest example he healed his teamates for half what he healed himself. I wish that was in the game on another champion.
Graves' role changed with his VGU :)
I feel like they didn't quite from square one because the lock on mechanic is still present.
tbh I actually loved playing old Urgot.
Imagine having a tanky bruiser marksman who is not utilizing crit chance (gnar)
Idc wat anyone says i been playing this game since you had to buy runes and yoricks rework was the most felt its impressive how they changed that “thing” into what he is now
