Something cool that riot could do to have many custom modes available is allowing the community to make our own custom gamemodes with reused assets.
Like you could rebalance champions, minions, monsters items, put walls and custom buffs. They could feature a custom game mode every patch that would be preinstalled with that patch but with the ability to install others if you want to.
If a mode became very popular it’s devs and riot could colab to make some custom assets for it that would in turn be available for other modes.
It’s basically the Bethesda approach since you depend on players/modders to fix/compensate an aspect of the game, but it would be really cool tbh.

Been saying this for years, we had much more diversity years ago. In my Twisted Treeline video years back I said they will remove it soon and many didn't believe it, but sadly it is currently gone. League is just boring in this aspect and lack of game modes is bizarre to me - you could have a new game mode every week - even on Summoner's Rift, by simply modifying certain aspects of the game a bit (add more players, remove jungle, change map shape, tighten champion/item pool etc). They just want people to grind rankeds, while ignoring the casual players in the process. To me in particular that's a big no and it's really sad.

Nowadays LoL's average newbie player has already bought a lvl 30 account, has downloaded applications like Blitz Op.gg and stuff (sry if I am wrong I don't use those) to apply their runes, tell them their enemies elo, counterpicks ,winrates etc. and plays only ranked solo/duo, loses because he refuses to follow his teammates' strategy and last but not least complains about everything, from game design to his team being "bad" thus renewing the Leagues famous toxic community... Riot simply agrees with that because the more "tryhards" their playerbase is, the more they watch professional games in order to have something to talk about to show their "skill" (for example even if they don't understand who Jankos is they will still mention him to sound cool or good or idk what they are thinking) and the more views and popularity riot's competitive game gains which bring more trash toxic people called "players" into the game. I am not just saying that I am pretty much comparing the people I personally know who started the game years ago with those who started it recently and I hate the fact that this might be close to the truth.

The other one was "color changes may affect visual clarity and therefore balance problems with some skins"-Same company that bans iBlitz from competitive yet lets it be played in ranked instead of just sitting down and adjust 2 numbers with the model editor. Its amazing how riot creates so good things yet is neglecting in basics that smaller companies have solved easily.

I remember grinding odyssey and achieving the last missions was super difficult, and it made it a lot of fun, in the end of the event I was just going into random lobbies trying to help people with their missions, I was really excited for what the next one would be...
My favorite PvP mode was by far the thresh one, I think I spammed it the whole event, if they just made some basic ranking like of the modes in TFT, I think it would reach an even bigger player base, and keep a lot more people, because even if you are playing just for fun, there’s that number there that makes you feel like there can be progress.

I loved the darkstar event. And it doesnt even have the excuse of additional maintenance. There are no items or stats to tweak, no winrate to consider, everyone plays the same champ. They did that huge update around, I think Season 3 or 4, where they added the spider etc, but then didn't do much with it after that. Imagine if there was a Arcane PVE experience that taught the player the game while giving more lore (Would have been a great moment to update singed and give him a story) which would have helped translate people interested in the lore into the player base.

The random gamemodes that come and go bring so much life and colour to the game for everyone - hardcores and casuals alike. This makes the game feel alive and popular for everyone that ranked itself feels worth playing because the game as a whole is. With all that gone, the game feels dead, which is sad...

Half the players were up to the challenge where you complete the mission where no-one on the team had more than 3/6 augment slots equipped. If you don't agree to do that challenge with them they will just ragequit at you for wasting their time. If you do you will probably fail the mission.

I get that they need to keep the game file size low, but they could allow optional downloads / or even better, keep a snapshot of the version the game mode released on, the way you can select between PBE or regular right now. And it would only let you play custom games. 100% simple solution, almost no coding required.

    least liked,
One for all hands down, mostly because you get hard countered even harder and when youre friend only wants to play something super low in the meta of that game mode you just get curb stomped over and over again.
nexus blitz, the powerups were too oppressive and swingy but also snowbally. you win the first and probably win the rest A because the buff was probably really strong or B just by winning you get more gold which will make you win again. which is too bad because some of the events were a blast.

To add to The Poro King game mode, it allowed you to buy a snack and each snack, if fed to Poro king, it made him cast an ability. There were 4 I think in total. Giant firebreath, some artiliery type hearts that slowed on impact, then shield that made Poro King jump forward and then back, knocking enemies up and lastly poros he would shoot forward behind enemies and if they hit a champion it would push them toward the poro king.
Anyways, I have been playing this game since summer 2010, and the most fun I ever had was the Odyssey. It had the augments, the abilities were powered up, Malphite having the ability to push and catch enemies with his ult and stop only when he hit an obstackle. So with a good ult, you were able to gather half of the map and Yasuos then all ulted and killed everything. I am sad that it will never come back. And the reason from the developers was that the engine LoL uses gets regular updates. And for them to upkeep it is just too much.

dominion is where many custom game modes were made to include aram, there was no reason whatsoever to delete the custom map, you could remove it from the queue but that's it.
Edit: For those who don't know as well, hide and seek was very popular as well, basically one person would seek and kill the others, everyone else is allowed to use stuns only but not damage the seeker and also could not go back to shop but the seeker could. This continues until the seeker wins so you just try to live as long as possible with 2-3 lives.

I’ve always been someone who likes the more fun modes especially pve modes where like it’s said in the video, can be more OP and just unique. What Riot and Tencent doesn't understand is that having different maps and playing modes online all the time isn't just a additional cost but an investment. But every other pvp gamemode it always ends in "you should've done this" or "you needed to kill this at this time."

Personally, my top favorite game modes in league history are:
    1.) Dark Star Thresh
    2.) Ascension, and
    3.) The Poro King.
(Although, 1 and 2 are nearly equal in terms of which was my favorite.)
    - All of these games felt balanced, were highly engaging, short, and fast. No time to be bored, and felt incredibly balanced, even when someone was ascended because the most exciting part was EVERYONE just going for the last hit/kill-steal, then RUNNN!!! And it was SO satisfying when you were able to get it!
    - With dark star thresh, every game was unique and skill based, and the heals and saves from the lanterns thrown on someone about to die, just made it feel so rewarding, because you could both save others and be saved by others, and it was just high skill expression, and just plain fun.
    - With Poro King, the game was highly engaging, and also highly rewarding, not only did it employ the "upgrades" from bilgewater, but it also introduced snowballs, which are an AMAZING addition into ARAM to make melee champions finally relevant against poke, ranged carries, and control mages! I also loved the fact that the bilgewater event added the bench of rerolled champs into ARAM! Imagine asking someone for their champion just to have them reroll it and lose it forever, just felt so punishing and unrewarding.
The changes with the addition of the snowball (aka mark/dash) and the reroll bench of champion options both came directly from these rotating game modes!
I think the real reason why these were so fun is because every champion felt good in it's own right, while every new game in these modes continued to present a challenge. Despite this, you could still work to get really good at it and feel like you are continuing to improve upon skill and consistency. The rewards were always worth pursuing because of what they gave you when you FIANLLY got them! They just gave such a mental empowerment and confidence where everyone could feel powerful and in control and "fed" for a brief period of time all the while maintaining all sorts of built-in come back factors. The fact that these buffs, such as from Ascension or Poro King, and even the healing from the lantern were:
Just LONG enough to have fun with, but
Just SHORT enough to encourage getting them again, and
Just STRONG enough to be absolutely broken
All of this was, simply put, amazing game-balancing, and the fact they happened multiple times per game gave many chances for you to experience it. For those who didn't play those modes, I'll put it this way, it truly felt as rewarding (if not more rewarding) as getting a Pentakill. There were all the elements of personal satisfaction, pride, and something for you to remember and look back on as well as truly relish-in it and treasure each moment. Simply put the power of nostalgia. (It was also kind of like playing the lottery, but a controllable one.) Just imagine every single game, 10 people each working hard to last hit the elder dragon after a 50 minute back-and-forth game, where no one has a smite, Nunu eat, or Chogath feast. It was just that rewarding.
Furthermore, what was equally awesome in all of these 3 game modes was the mere presence of the mini side quests:
    - The pillars in ascension (for those crafty and highly rotate focused or who wanted to avoid fights and still get enough points for their team to win);
    - The hitting 10 snowballs, was a mini game in itself, and fit perfectly with the "dodgeball" feel of ARAM and skill shots, and
    - The scuttle crabs/teleport pillars in the Dark Star Thresh game mode.
All of these were like mini objectives that absolutely added a core element to the game OTHER than just "only fighting, all of the time."
Sadly, a lot of the other modes felt like just "only fighting, all of the time." With no real value added in focusing on the overall macro of the game.
Lastly, they all really encouraged/forced a level of teamwork and comradery, and were highly rewarding for those who had good teamwork.
I genuinely wish Riot Games would bring these modes back, because they were just plain fun, so much less toxicity, short game modes, all for-fun, and often with friends. And still rewarding, EVEN IF you lost. Exactly as a game should be.
PS: I would even go as far as to say that honestly I would be willing to pay for a sort of pass or subscription to be able to access game modes like this on a more routine basis. Go with me for a second here:
Imagine those who paid say $5.00-$10.00 per month would be able to access these exclusive game modes. Those who would pay would get really good at the games, OR they would take them seriously, OR they would quickly balance out the skill level and queue times would be rather short, because the game modes are so short,(and because if people are paying for them, they are going to play them). Imagine if you could have a "league+" monthly (or annual?) subscription to have access to play game modes like these? They already have the game/season passes for in game loot and cosmetic content such as emotes, how difficult would it be to have that season pass also unlock access to exclusive game modes, or even an additional pass for those who are not interested in the cosmetic content, and actually appreciate the gameplay and would pay for better in-game content?
Being a part of the community for going on 10 years now, I am absolutely sure there would be enough players, and enough demand and revenue generation there for Riot to consider it as an ongoing option, and they would truly be able to assess what the players wanted, and earn money doing it. And then players just stop paying for the subscription when the game modes become unbalanced, boring, or if a new rotation of game modes comes through there is less demand for.
And naturally, it wouldn't be a pay-to-win system, it would be a pay-to-play or pay-to-access system, where it would be like fully supported and funded by the "stockholders" and the consumers of the game. Instead of doing the stupid cookie-cutter season passes and merely changing the colors of the seasons to squeeze every last dime out of those still playing this game, make it actually something worth paying for, by meeting player demand with a product that is worth paying for, that's more that simply cosmetic, but more of an experience and a form of exclusive access.
Be honest, would you be willing to pay a small subscription fee if it meant you were going to be able to play these game modes again? Even for just a month? Exactly. Just about everyone would. That's my point.

Honestly, I would pay for a sort of pass or subscription to be able to access game modes like this on a more routine basis.
Yeeees. 9 out of 10 junglers I meet will completely ignore objectives, and it’s infuriating, so I always prefer to have a premade with me. They’ll neglect all the drakes and only gank when they see they’ll be able to get a free kill out of it, not to push or help the lanes. Sure, you’ll end up with many kills, but that attitude will leave your team hopeless in the long run, especially in teamfights. Then when enemy team has claimed all the drakes, including soul, elder and baron, the jungler will blame the rest of the team for losing the game, because they themselves believe that farming kills makes them the carry.

New video idea: The History of cosmetically alternate maps and why Riot stopped doing them
Like when they used to have a Harrowing map each Halloween, or a Snowdown map each Christmas, the Bilgewater ARAM map, the Blood Moon summoner's rift, and my personal absolute favorite: the Arcade summoner's rift.

    • @_nainportequoi_7032

They stopped doing it because of the souls changing the map, sadly. And I can imagine its hard giving them a theme without making it u clear what soul it is as an event that will go away, though maybe having SR maps as a cosmetic would make it work since you can know which soul is which and have them all around the year

    • @gabrieljoseozanan6989
      @gabrieljoseozanan6989 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@_nainportequoi_7032 I always assumed that they stopped doing it because their code is so spaghetti that even something as minor as changing the map color to slightly whiter with snow would actually cost a lot of money due to the hundreds of bugs that would surely follow and unlike skins, they can't charge to make up for these costs.
