I recogniced that u used Chilling smite footage for the URF part, i checked the description and i have to say great job on credeting (u got my sub and like with that) (sry 4 my bad eng) ^^
Exil you forgot one mode Where you were allowed to pick the enemy teams champion it was the most fun I had in league where everyone was doing troll comps and builds. I think was around 2013-2014 and was released just twice for like 1 week each time
Something cool that riot could do to have many custom modes available is allowing the community to make our own custom gamemodes with reused assets. Like you could rebalance champions, minions, monsters items, put walls and custom buffs. They could feature a custom game mode every patch that would be preinstalled with that patch but with the ability to install others if you want to. If a mode became very popular it’s devs and riot could colab to make some custom assets for it that would in turn be available for other modes. It’s basically the Bethesda approach since you depend on players/modders to fix/compensate an aspect of the game, but it would be really cool tbh.
Been saying this for years, we had much more diversity years ago. In my Twisted Treeline video years back I said they will remove it soon and many didn't believe it, but sadly it is currently gone. League is just boring in this aspect and lack of game modes is bizarre to me - you could have a new game mode every week - even on Summoner's Rift, by simply modifying certain aspects of the game a bit (add more players, remove jungle, change map shape, tighten champion/item pool etc). They just want people to grind rankeds, while ignoring the casual players in the process. To me in particular that's a big no and it's really sad.
Nowadays LoL's average newbie player has already bought a lvl 30 account, has downloaded applications like Blitz Op.gg and stuff (sry if I am wrong I don't use those) to apply their runes, tell them their enemies elo, counterpicks ,winrates etc. and plays only ranked solo/duo, loses because he refuses to follow his teammates' strategy and last but not least complains about everything, from game design to his team being "bad" thus renewing the Leagues famous toxic community... Riot simply agrees with that because the more "tryhards" their playerbase is, the more they watch professional games in order to have something to talk about to show their "skill" (for example even if they don't understand who Jankos is they will still mention him to sound cool or good or idk what they are thinking) and the more views and popularity riot's competitive game gains which bring more trash toxic people called "players" into the game. I am not just saying that I am pretty much comparing the people I personally know who started the game years ago with those who started it recently and I hate the fact that this might be close to the truth.
I used to literally only play twisted back in 2018 as a new player i had 500 games on it with 30 on norms I quit for three months because I was pissed. please bring it back riot
The excuse was that new rift would be harder to adapt... and that really sounds like a lazyness excuse. The other one was "color changes may affect visual clarity and therefore balance problems with some skins"-Same company that bans iBlitz from competitive yet lets it be played in ranked instead of just sitting down and adjust 2 numbers with the model editor. Its amazing how riot creates so good things yet is neglecting in basics that smaller companies have solved easily.
@@pabloporrero1932 The funniest thing about that is that some people actually made a working custom Winter map, that was adapted for the Alcoves as well, so it was just a laziness excuse.
This is the thing that's upset me most the last few years. I love the snow map and play more during those months just because of it, but they can't be bothered to do them anymore. "Dragon elemental changes make it too hard"isn't really an excuse imo.
You're lucky to be playing on a region that actually had seasonal changes. They literally don't change the map ever for the smaller regions *cries in OCE*
Man, Bilgewater event around the gangplank rework was the best thing ever to happen. The map, butchers bridge, the unique announcers changing during the event from gangplank to miss fortune, and back to gangplank. The removal of gangplank from the game because he was „dead“ the reintroduction with his final visual and audio update, the overall atmosphere from the bilgewater ingame music.. I miss it
Odyssey was honestly the most fun I've ever had playing League. No one was toxic, everyone just wanted to work together for the challenges and have fun.
@@jozaiahrosado9949 The only toxic part was the missions that you had to do where all 5 players had to pick a specific comp or run 2 only augments, there was always that one person that refused to do it. other then that I saw pretty much 0 toxicity.
Truly, I haven't enjoyed PvP in League for quite some time now with how unbalanced everything is and how horrible people can be. I just want the Star Guardian or Odyssey gamemodes back, or maybe even an all-new PvE gamemode :c
Cries in spamming 1 vs 5 intermediates since 3 years, waiting for my time to shine, only for it to never come :( (Seriously, that thing is extremely fun, especially with certain champions and runes. Definitely played it more than TFT, that's for sure)
I never understood what is the fun with being killed by 5 op bots... In my opinion, riot should allow THE PLAYERS use all that different and imba skills, not just idiotic bots
The PVE gamemods were the most fun I ever had on league, I always played them with my friends for as long as they were up and I've been waiting for their return for over 2 years. I'm not giving up.
Too bad if im not mistaken they officially said they will officially cut off pve mode from league. I think reason for that is they want to or developing seperate game(s) on that type of gameplay with Runetera lore of league.
Same, my friend. The PvE modes were the best thing about the League, especially when the League went south with the "if everything is broken, it is balanced" policy they went for. But I still have hope, since quite a long time ago they announced they are working on an action RPG game, which from what I know Is supposed to be similar in gameplay as the PvE modes were, hopefully even better than that, since it is supposed to be a standalone game.
I remember grinding odyssey and achieving the last missions was super difficult, and it made it a lot of fun, in the end of the event I was just going into random lobbies trying to help people with their missions, I was really excited for what the next one would be... My favorite PvP mode was by far the thresh one, I think I spammed it the whole event, if they just made some basic ranking like of the modes in TFT, I think it would reach an even bigger player base, and keep a lot more people, because even if you are playing just for fun, there’s that number there that makes you feel like there can be progress.
I loved the darkstar event. And it doesnt even have the excuse of additional maintenance. There are no items or stats to tweak, no winrate to consider, everyone plays the same champ. If it was permanent the playerbase would probably be reduced pretty fast, but once a month or at least every other month shouldnt be a problem.
The most fun I've ever had in league was back when the odyssey event happened. I really wish they would put some time into actually making more unique events rather than doing everything nobody asks for.
This and any other PvE mode, i miss star guardian and even the project one even tho it was pvp, people were so fascinated in playing project they had no time to be toxic
Same man, though there were other events that were kinda on the same level for me like the PROJECT one or the dark star, hell even nexus siege as long as they nerfed the pushing champs
The augments allowing different style of playing made it the most fun ever. I still remember dashing and kiling everything with one hit as Ap yasuo and using Jinx chompers every 2 seconds shreadding everything around
@@VarsVerum Vars: has a video premiering at 6 Also vars: "zoo wee mama, another 45 Minutes documentary about the League of the Legends? Sign me up!" edit to add: vars commented this 10 minutes before his video premieres. Thats also important to know :D
Wasn't the last mission completing the hardest difficulty with just 2 augments? You needed it to get that gem thingy from which you'd get a grab bag. I remember grinding for that, whenever you'd drop a life in an early stage the team just agreed on surrendering. With full augments it be came quite easy after a while - with things like AP Jinx
@@mangalover0149 same but they would need to rethink the quests because odyssey mode was fun to play but it was so hard to start cause everyone wanted to do different quests. I remember that for the last quests i had to search for the game like 5 times and every time i found one person who wanted do the same quest, we added each other and we were searching for others willing to cooparate. Quests are the reason that ppl don't like this mode imo
@@2Wayne2bfh I think people are forgetting how toxic it was though, people will spam 2 yasou 2 augs to get their missions down or whatever and if they didn't get that they would afk and not play and ruin it for 4 other people
As well as Nemesis draft. One of the most fun I had playing with my friends. Giving the enemy the most mechanically challenging champs at the time and for them to get wrecked by our ADC janna, soraka and/or taric
Thats exactly what I was thinking. The Bench that was added to ARAM came from that mode alone, and that has made the ARAN so much more healthy. Instead of spamming NOOOO I WANTED THAT WHY RETOLL BEFORE ASKING TEAM???
@@FanOfMinatozakiSana you pick for the enemy team instead of for yourself. There's the option to trade amongst your team as well after all picks are done, but aside from that it's basic summoners rift.
Before the Hexakill was in the game, if you kill 5 people, then one of them used the Summoner spell: revive, and you kill them, making it 6 kills, it was called: Legendary kill. I was there Gandalf.
honestly, the PvE modes were the most fun I had with an alternative gamemode because its a completely different experience compared to the other ones, especially odyssey. You had 5 characters to choose from which you were able to customise to a very high degree which made it a lot of fun, tho after you had done all the challenges and completed all the difficulties it quickly became boring, but for the time it lasted it was was hands down the most fun i had
Yeah I don’t know where this got lost in translation for riot, reusing assets is not the same game it’s laziness 😂 Here’s the irony too, you got riot who says tft is a gamemode when it’s a completely different game and then you have the developers of cod who make the same game every year just tweaked a bit and you spend 60 bucks to play it because it’s a new game
I almost cried remembering that i had no friends to enjoy some of those game modes but i ended up enjoying them a lot anyway. Odyssey was something else, just like Exil said, with some more time, it could be a very popular game mode
Odyssey was actually amazing, games like Diablo and Hades are good but something about Odyssey with the augments and strategy was so awesome AND it hardly got old. Even when the optimal ways to beat it were shared around, I had so much fun running through it in different ways. It's like Exil says, if it was tweeked slightly from time to time (like buffing weaker augments/builds or nerfing winning strategies) and the content was renewed every so often like TFT, I think the players would stay with it basically forever.
I think the one I miss most is Twisted Treeline. I wish they'd worked more to develop that into a popular game mode. They did that huge update around, I think Season 3 or 4, where they added the spider etc, but then didn't do much with it after that. It was fun for customs with friends and if you wanted to play something a little less serious than SR, whilst still keeping some of the basic mechanics of a normal game.
i believe part of that update also removed the top jungle? i used to mundo top/jungle in TT, and it was bonkers. getting wave clear and creep from top and mid jungle put me LEVELS ahead of the other team and it was bad.
its hard to say 3v3 was any good considering you literally pick jax every game and instawin like high level high mmr 3v3 games would boil down to whoever picks jax the fastest (or kayn if hes banned) i also dont trust tencent/riot to balance it properly considering how bad arena went
Honestly, the Star Guardian and Odyssey PVE events were some of the most fun I've had with 'league' even just to have those same unchanged events to play as much as I want with my friends would be amazing. Hell, with Riot making entirely new games at the moment, I don't see why they couldn't keep around these amazing PVE events. Edit: Project was also a great gamemode!
The biggest issue I found with Odyssey was that you found a lobby, and THEN had to agree to a challenge. You wanted to just complete it on the hardest difficulty? Nope! Half the players were up to the challenge where you complete the mission where no-one on the team had more than 3/6 augment slots equipped. If you don't agree to do that challenge with them they will just ragequit at you for wasting their time. If you do you will probably fail the mission.
Yeah, I wasn't around for all the PvE stuff and it bumms me out. In CS:GO they still have event mission maps from 5 years ago you can host with your friends. I get that they need to keep the game file size low, but they could allow optional downloads / or even better, keep a snapshot of the version the game mode released on, the way you can select between PBE or regular right now. And it would only let you play custom games. 100% simple solution, almost no coding required.
@@buurzai Well, that was solved by actually finding a team over on discord for x y z...But oh well, rather complain and shit instead of finding the solution.
@Exil You forgot to mention one of my all time favorites Nexus Blitz. Also since Ive been around since Season 2 I still remember the Bilgwater Aram event and the Nemesis Draft game modes. I only played TFT during Beta and have not touched it since, so It's very heartbreaking to me to know New modes are not coming ever
I would bring 3v3 back in some capacity. It reduced the toxicity from 10 players to 6. It is also easier to find a team of 3 people that consistently plays together.
Late to the TT pity party but God damn I need it back. TT was the only thing keeping me playing and once they removed it I haven't felt the want to come back and play normal games anymore.
Played a lot TT with friends when a sixth player was connected. Because 3vs3 was really fun, we could play and improve as a team but enjoy too! harder to have 10 players connected together to practice a longer game
the best part of ascension was those troll playing 5 tanks with sunfire and interupt the channeling while never killing anyone to stall the game forever until the ennemy team resigns. these guys was geniuses
Or even better, you are being hunted by a buffed kha zix ressembling predator (with nocturne ult allthe time), and you all need to be together, for surviving against him, untill reinforcements arrive (could be beefy super minions) that lights the way and nerf kha, smtimes one event will happen when the map shines a bit and you can see everything, but this time the boss will rush towards the closest player, so you all need to run and save him, or use him as a bait, but kha gets Stronger at each kill he gets, hope you got the scope for it.
Old league gamemodes were definitly a banger! I really miss dominion hide and seek and black market brawlers. I remember when black markets brawlers came out and they introduced neekos now passive and dead mans plate for the first time, those were the golden times of LOL.
@@Exil22 it's my fav game mode, it's so sad because people still don't even know what it is or how to play it, and just the last time it got a decent map. Riot complains about the game modes but they barely try to fix them, NB was a bit lucky at least...
I was just about to ask about this, cuz I love Nexus Blitz so much its probably my second fav cuz URF is just too fun, But apparently not a lot of people didnt really enjoy it, I remember when it first came out most of my friends hated it and I was like the only one that enjoyed it
i truly miss Ascension, Poro king, and Overcharge. those were some of the most amazing modes i ever played aside from URF. sometimes i think i am truly lucky and honored being able to try every single game mode explained in this video before i quit league. the amount of nostalgia of experiencing some of the most fun game modes with my friends is something i will treasure forever
I remember how hard it was for me and my friends to achieve the perfect ascension and earn that summoner icon, which is pretty average looking but it holds a special place because it's mythic and was very hard to achieve.
What Riot and Tencent doesn't understand is that having different maps and playing modes online all the time isn't just a additional cost but an investment. New players are excited to see different game modes, try them out and then decide, that 5v5 is their favorite mode (or find another mode that they like).
Not to mention it makes no sense that splitting a server into smaller groups to accommodate different games is a burden when it's already doing that? If you can split millions of people into groups of 10 you shouldn't have a problem with 10 percent of those being on a different map!
Games that only focus on Conquest are things of the past. Lol is only still there because they were first on the MOBA market and because they have Tencent support. true action games and Arena are the future. People forget Conquest aka DOTA aka Defend of the Ancinets was jsut 1 of 10000000 community made maps from Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 community made maps era. the Genre is called Multiplayer Online Battle Arena not Multiplayer Online Battle Conquest. watch the Kings Avatar animation.
honestly I playes PROJECT: OVERCHARGE, the star guardian PvE event, Doom bots and the Odyssey event when I was a noob and now that I actually understand how to play there are literally no gamemodes except ARURF not even normal URF and OFA from time to time, and TFT which is not even LoL
imagine if they gave the community the tools to create different gamemodes for custom games, not only would we get some lost gamemodes back but also so many new things
@Tesla-Effect that is just a stupid excuse, if a new game get popular hire the developer and make it an official map, blizzard was greedy and dumb, valve bought team fortress counter strike and dota and made a lot of money, while blizzard killed warcraft 3 reforged world editor before the game was launched with that change in policy
To add to The Poro King game mode, it allowed you to buy a snack and each snack, if fed to Poro king, it made him cast an ability. There were 4 I think in total. Giant firebreath, some artiliery type hearts that slowed on impact, then shield that made Poro King jump forward and then back, knocking enemies up and lastly poros he would shoot forward behind enemies and if they hit a champion it would push them toward the poro king. Anyways, I have been playing this game since summer 2010, and the most fun I ever had was the Odyssey. It had the augments, the abilities were powered up, Malphite having the ability to push and catch enemies with his ult and stop only when he hit an obstackle. So with a good ult, you were able to gather half of the map and Yasuos then all ulted and killed everything. I am sad that it will never come back. And the reason from the developers was that the engine LoL uses gets regular updates. And for them to upkeep it is just too much.
@@bababba1232 which is really funny because as someone who went to school for game dev, number 1 thing in class, games should be fun. If your game is not fun, it has failed at the basic definition of what it is, a game. Sadly the devs don't make all the calls, and publishers do in fact only generally care about money.
I plan to cover this separately along with Nexus Blitz very soon. Sorry for the lack of transparency. I want to make a video talking about why League doesn't have a 1v1 or 2v2 mode and reference the history of it.
Thats shit was lit back in the day. This vid's such a massive throwback, and it reminded me why I've stuck to this game way longer than I'd ever imagined to. These days it's just the ranked grind and honestly, that's very stale and depressing. The random gamemodes that come and go bring so much life and colour to the game for everyone - hardcores and casuals alike. This makes the game feel alive and popular for everyone that ranked itself feels worth playing because the game as a whole is. With all that gone, the game feels dead, which is sad...
ttl was a fun mode. i used to play it with my friends whenever we had a 3man party and dint want any randoms cuz lets be honest... randoms tend to be less fun to play with then playing with only your friends
I want to give a special thanks this video to the 'Sources' section of the description. Without the source footage from all these game modes, I'd really have nothing to show on screen (since the modes are removed forever lol). Please check out the creators and go support their content!!
I have fewer than 1 friend in the World. That's right. Everybody disses me for making bad videos. I think they are perfect though. Who is right? My dissers or me? Which side are you on, dear ex
Dark Star Singularity is based off of a mini-mode created on WarCraft 3 "Pudge Tag" - using the hero unit "Pudge" the Abomination (who had the same ability via "Meathook") wherein you were in a free for all or team deathmatch where you were free to zoom around the map trying to hook and consume the opposition. It was meme-tastic and a great time, so if you ever feel like recapturing that feeling of Singularity that's how you can.
I sincerely cannot justify Riot for not introducing some sort of Arcade Mode where to dump all their previous Game Modes other than to artificially create hype, when games with way smaller player bases, budget, and development team can do it without an issue
I really miss going into a custom game of dominion and playing hide and seek, probably the most fun i've ever had playing league. The OG's will remember
I cannot express enough how much I enjoyed the Star Guardian game mode and Doom Bots, I know they had their limitations on what they could do, but I've wished both to return ever since they left us.
I missed the mark by a mile for these game modes, but having arena as a permanant addition makes me hope we could have more permanant or recurrent gamemodes in the future
riot doesnt know what they are doing... the client is the perfect prove of it. one of the most shit clients ever. and they just wont fix. i dont even know if they speak about it. its like if they dont see it then its not a problem.
I miss ascension so much, that and black market brawlers, and the dark star thresh one. Those game modes were just SO FUN and they had to forever disappear into the void... RIP.
Dominion was such a fun like 10 minute quick game mode. Back when an average league game was an hour long thing, and arams were closer to 30 minutes, dominion hit that sweet spot for the “one more game” type of mode. The mode when you’ve had a tilting day you and your friends just end the night on a dominion win.
Odyssey imo was the best thing league ever did. I remember it was out while Hurricane Irma was hitting and all I did was play the mode. Some of the most fun times I've had. It was even some of the first ever videos I ever uploaded. Even if it never returns, I'm still holding out hope for it.
@@vitalyklimenchuk8392 ah yes. The All cheese no strategy gamemodes were better than odyssey. The gamemode where you actually had competent team mates all the time. Sure man. Sure.
@@nancyabsalon9436 League isn't a strategy game. And even if the high-rank games are, at that point the fun factor goes through the floor. This is why URF and other modes which devolve into pure chaos were so beloved. When you don't have to take the game 100% seriously and min-max team comps, you can actually relax and do weird and dumb shit.
@@vitalyklimenchuk8392 easy for you to say. In any game. Losing is never fun, and when you know that the only reason you didn't win was because 1 team mate didn't do tue right thing. It makes the fun factor goes through the depths of hell. Urf is fun because it's level playing field of BS. Same buffs, same cooldowns. Odyssey is fun because you can't blame your team mates for anything. It's not your fault or your team mates fault that you lost. But every other pvp gamemode it always ends in "you should've done this" or "you needed to kill this at this time." In odyssey, you only have to worry about your augments and team comp. A team of bronze players with only the most basic knowledge of the game mode can beat odyssey and have fun the same as challenger players. There isn't any blame to go around the same as the other game modes. And if there was, it's only "ah i could've done this better." Or just constructive criticism. You don't get that in your game modes. You get into toxic fights that cause one to all five players to play poorly on purpose just to spite the others. Whereas odyssey makes you actually want to help your team do better.
I think dominion was a great way to show new players the importance of objectives. Nowadays every game below gold just treats SR as "how many kills can I get"
Yeeees. 9 out of 10 junglers I meet will completely ignore objectives, and it’s infuriating, so I always prefer to have a premade with me. They’ll neglect all the drakes and only gank when they see they’ll be able to get a free kill out of it, not to push or help the lanes. Sure, you’ll end up with many kills, but that attitude will leave your team hopeless in the long run, especially in teamfights. Then when enemy team has claimed all the drakes, including soul, elder and baron, the jungler will blame the rest of the team for losing the game, because they themselves believe that farming kills makes them the carry.
Honestly PVE would be the magic bullet that could fix the learning curve of the game, give a story mode to help hook the player, and advertising skins for the main game. Imagine if there was a Arcane PVE experience that taught the player the game while giving more lore (Would have been a great moment to update singed and give him a story) which would have helped translate people interested in the lore into the player base.
@@fis001r Ascension definetly was fun. The pve modes were good as well, but it was a bit frustrating that your team screwes up a lot of times and in odyssey you had to convince them to pick specific champs with specific amount of augments

They don't care about their community and have proved that even if it means hurting the playerbase, they will always choose it if it means profit. I played the new twisted treeline like crazy with my friends when I first joined. I remember I joined just in time to see Warwick reworked. It was glorious, and I loved the gamemode despite the que times. I wish they would bring it back sometimes...
New video idea: The History of cosmetically alternate maps and why Riot stopped doing them Like when they used to have a Harrowing map each Halloween, or a Snowdown map each Christmas, the Bilgewater ARAM map, the Blood Moon summoner's rift, and my personal absolute favorite: the Arcade summoner's rift.
They stopped doing it because of the souls changing the map, sadly. And I can imagine its hard giving them a theme without making it u clear what soul it is as an event that will go away, though maybe having SR maps as a cosmetic would make it work since you can know which soul is which and have them all around the year
@@_nainportequoi_7032 I always assumed that they stopped doing it because their code is so spaghetti that even something as minor as changing the map color to slightly whiter with snow would actually cost a lot of money due to the hundreds of bugs that would surely follow and unlike skins, they can't charge to make up for these costs.
I genuinely miss the feeling I got when playing URF for the first time. It was such a magical experience and I loved every second of it. Until about game 10 and then I just went back to draft pick with my friends.
The solution to all these problems is just add an arcade mode like Dota does. Dota has endless PvE RPG maps with meta progression and more. Sadly Riot isn't too fond player created content.
My thoughts exactly. While Dota has its fair share of problems it definitely gets community interaction right. Crowd funded tournament prizes and pve events with rewards. Arcade was probably the best thing they brought back though, they paid homage to World of Warcraft 3 and its endless community maps and game modes, some even being based off of Dota itself. Its probably time consuming to moderate the different game modes (and then theres copyright but Dota seems to be fine) but the game itself has proven to be capable of making these work. If only Riot would actually mean the word community and not just toss it around for brownie points.
Riot knows how capable the community are and they're affraid of people not consuming the official product anymore, you can see that from the custom skins that they basically "banned" when it was getting popular
given that LoL sprang out of a DOTA mod community i wouldn't be surprised that they are scared the same thing could happen to them by basically incubating their own killer

Unless I missed it, I didn't see you bring up Nemesis Draft. I played that game mode once and it was great. Getting to pick champs for the enemies and they chose for you. It was a fun mode
Your idea about a game mode for ionian lore made me think of Spirit Blossom. It would've been SO FUN if we could actually play and learn the Spirit Blossom lore instead of just reading everything and seeing our fav champions just being horny for no reason 🙄
Odysee extraction was the best gamemode riot ever made, change my mind. I played a lot the entire month and we tried about 20 times with a premade group to get the 1 augment onslaught difficulty. The fun part of this was that you had to play AD Ziggs and one healer Ziggs if I remember correctly
@@kennycashman7491 Never played it*. Don’t lie to yourself lol. Twisted Treeline was fun but it had a lot of problems. I personally stopped playing it because of how awfully prominent gold funneling was.
Genuinely, thank you for this in-depth video, I've completely forgotten that so many alternative modes existed in the past and provided the much-needed "breath of fresh air" from SR. The fun factor of this game has continuously decreased each year as competition has become the main theme (hence the deteriorating community imo), to the point where the game solely thrives off of how addicted we get to winning. A long-term PvE game mode would definitely allow for a more casual and low-stakes experience that I think, if properly developed and balanced, would be an amazing opportunity for a shift towards creativity instead of how linear it feels nowadays (same core mechanic, new questlines and campaigns like you mentioned).
Don't forget Nemesis, I may have just missed it, but that one was sort of fun to me. You ban what you dont want to play because the enemy picks your champ, you do get to trade before it goes, but I loved it. Force people to learn a new thing, or to build more creative because you for instance dont have a proper top, mid, or jungle, so you have to improvise. I like off meta, so to me, this was right up my alley.
Good fucking times, playing catch on Dominion. 1-5 players running from 1 player. The ones to be catched couldn't attack, just use escape/dash/etc. abilities to run. The game ended when the catcher kills one of the other players(explaining this for new players that didn't experience it). One time a friend of mine tried to catch us for over an hour with WW haha. Good times, I miss that...
Man, I loved blood moon and odyssey so much. I have so many great memories of it, I remember at a sleepover me and my friends stayed up till 7am playing it and we managed to beat the 4th difficulty, and blood moon was so fun to play solo because I loved assassins back then, it was one of the reasons I stuck around :(
You brought back a lot of repressed memories I had about those game modes with this video, I literally played all of them! You know, the most fun I've had playing LoL was just messing around in these game modes with friends, or with strangers in the case of Star Guardian and Oddissey, finishing the game in the hardest difficulty with no perks to get the skin was sooooo much fun
The mistake they did with Legends of Runeterra was releasing it way too late. The optimal release date should have been when Hearthstone was still popular
this was one of my favorite game modes. in my opinion this is the game mode that brought attention to urgot. no one really played way back until nemisis draft and people assumed he was a bad champ until you had someone who mained him play it then it became a freakin nightmare.
Nemesis Draft was so fun, as a 5man group that all mained Support and when playing together we basically roll for who gets to be support, getting a team that consists of only support was hilarious.

Where you were allowed to pick the enemy teams champion it was the most fun I had in league where everyone was doing troll comps and builds. I think was around 2013-2014 and was released just twice for like 1 week each time
Did Nemesis Draft get forgotten again 😔
To me in particular that's a big no and it's really sad.
true af
It's like they're so busy expanding their universe with media and games that they're actually neglecting the main game and community
I like how they also haven't even updated runes/masteries for like what, 6 years? And they used to do it every season.
I used to literally only play twisted back in 2018 as a new player i had 500 games on it with 30 on norms I quit for three months because I was pissed. please bring it back riot
Let's not forget how the map didn't change for christmas and summer this year
The excuse was that new rift would be harder to adapt... and that really sounds like a lazyness excuse.

Odyssey was honestly the most fun I've ever had playing League. No one was toxic, everyone just wanted to work together for the challenges and have fun.
Star guardian event was insane fun too
I dont know about the no one was toxic part. But everything else, hell yeah.
I've stopped financially support Riot about 6-7 seasons ago, but to be honest, I'd grab my wallet for a permanent Odyssey mode.
@@jozaiahrosado9949 The only toxic part was the missions that you had to do where all 5 players had to pick a specific comp or run 2 only augments, there was always that one person that refused to do it. other then that I saw pretty much 0 toxicity.

I almost cried remembering that i had no friends to enjoy some of those game modes but i ended up enjoying them a lot anyway. Odyssey was something else, just like Exil said, with some more time, it could be a very popular game mode
this modes made me add friends after almost beating the mode to play again, i cant remember the last time i added a random on summoner rift
Odyssey was wonderful I made a lot of friends just for playing it! More than I've done playing soloQ in my 4 years in League.
I miss the circle one that you have to get objectives I was kinda a shaco main at that time
Old TT was great. The new version without top jungle was just not it.
its hard to say 3v3 was any good considering you literally pick jax every game and instawin

Odyssey deserves a come back imo
The biggest issue I found with Odyssey was that you found a lobby, and THEN had to agree to a challenge. You wanted to just complete it on the hardest difficulty? Nope! Half the players were up to the challenge where you complete the mission where no-one on the team had more than 3/6 augment slots equipped. If you don't agree to do that challenge with them they will just ragequit at you for wasting their time. If you do you will probably fail the mission.
Indeed it was challenging and fun.

I would bring 3v3 back in some capacity. It reduced the toxicity from 10 players to 6. It is also easier to find a team of 3 people that consistently plays together.

They were temporarily banned because of this HAHAHA
Horror mode where you're perma nocturne ulted and the other team has to find and kill you, and you win by performing tasks or capturing stuff.
that would be very cool
Or even better, you are being hunted by a buffed kha zix ressembling predator (with nocturne ult allthe time), and you all need to be together, for surviving against him, untill reinforcements arrive (could be beefy super minions) that lights the way and nerf kha, smtimes one event will happen when the map shines a bit and you can see everything, but this time the boss will rush towards the closest player, so you all need to run and save him, or use him as a bait, but kha gets Stronger at each kill he gets, hope you got the scope for it.

The playerbase actually decreases after a game mode ends, it's confirmed by riot.

Riot: man designing is so difficult…..here’s the 25167th champion of League of Legends
Rest in peace Twisted Treeline. Gone but never forgotten.
I used to play only twisted tree line

ttl was a fun mode. i used to play it with my friends whenever we had a 3man party and dint want any randoms cuz lets be honest... randoms tend to be less fun to play with then playing with only your friends
Aram will be next.
used to play TT ranked because we always had 3 too many for solo/duo and flex wasnt a thing i do miss it

We need to get the PVE events back!!! I miss them so much ;(

I miss the star guardian and Odyssey events... they were my fav in all of league.
Odyssey imo was the best thing league ever did. I remember it was out while Hurricane Irma was hitting and all I did was play the mode. Some of the most fun times I've had. It was even some of the first ever videos I ever uploaded. Even if it never returns, I'm still holding out hope for it.
Nah, doombots, project hunters and dark star were bloody amazing, much better than strict pve
@@vitalyklimenchuk8392 Opinions are a thing you know? All of them are amazing but even I have my favorites.
But every other pvp gamemode it always ends in "you should've done this" or "you needed to kill this at this time."
In odyssey, you only have to worry about your augments and team comp.
Nowadays every game below gold just treats SR as "how many kills can I get"
Dominion was the best mode, hands down. Even twisted tree line was super fun
And Twisted Treeline really nailed it into people's heads how important a good team comp and being able to team fight well was
and every game above gold is just "Do the meta and nothing else"
That would be work.
And work is for peasant not blizzard.
Odyssey was so good, I miss playing it so much.
I still use my icons cuz I worked for that stuff
I miss Nexus Siege and Ascension. Maybe I'm alone with this but I enjoyed them as much if not more than OfA and URF.
@@fis001r Ascension definetly was fun. The pve modes were good as well, but it was a bit frustrating that your team screwes up a lot of times and in odyssey you had to convince them to pick specific champs with specific amount of augments

@@afsarahmed6365 Just because there are no P2W elements doesnt mean theyre good. One can simply see through that by looking at the costume release/bug fixing ratio.

@@dolores3585 Even when they release new gamemodes its to promote skins like blood moon event.

New video idea: The History of cosmetically alternate maps and why Riot stopped doing them
Like when they used to have a Harrowing map each Halloween, or a Snowdown map each Christmas, the Bilgewater ARAM map, the Blood Moon summoner's rift, and my personal absolute favorite: the Arcade summoner's rift.

Anyone else remember Hide and Seek on the old dominion map? Good times.
Good times, I miss that...

this was one of my favorite game modes. in my opinion this is the game mode that brought attention to urgot. no one really played way back until nemisis draft and people assumed he was a bad champ until you had someone who mained him play it then it became a freakin nightmare.
