    Game developers should really hire a consultant like you to make sure everything visual about the games they are putting out are as good as they can be. Every little detail and setting matters to bring the best visual experience to the player!
    Thanks for keeping us updated with the latest information and doing the battery of tests you always do; I've tweaked my PS5 & XSX to according to your videos and began playing on my 55'' LG CX OLED with the lights in my room very dim or off completely.

I'd noticed a difference in HDR playing on my PC with HDR10 compared to playing on my Xbox with Dolby Vision, but wasn't sure if it was just the HDR implementation or the Graphics Settings being different on the Xbox. I don't like Dolby Vision on games. It is not neccesary. Most gamers like to fine tune game settings at their own,. Both standards can give you a good tone mapping by default, but HDR10 gives the user more control for customisation. For example in Halo Infinite I like to be more aggresive with "HDR" and reducing "brightness" a bit, even at the cost of some highlight clipping and shadow detail because then the sunny areas look truly awesome, and also because the snipper glint catches my eye earlier ( a situation where a 1/10th is the difference between live or dead). Also in FH5 is worth to be aggresive with HDR settings because car surfaces , land and weather look much better even if it is at the cost of clipping some boring clouds and losing some shadow detail. Meanwhile for movies I like DV "by default" because I want to experience the creator intention, but for games I really want total control.

    I've recently bought the 'LG OLED 55 C2' and noticed that the Dolby Vision in Halo Infinite was pretty dim like this myself (So I've turned Dolby Vision Off) BUT I was also concerned with a Strange Purple / Green Box that appears on the loading screen on boot-up to the main title screen, it appears in the Top-Right Corner of the screen as it shows the pop-up for HDR then disappears once the main title shows.
    Also, the Contrast Grading around the writing etc. On initial boot of the game, is all blocky and looks pretty nasty (it lasts and runs at the same time as the strange box I just mentioned) and I don't remember it doing that or looking like this on my previous TV either.....I'm guessing it's linked to whatever's going-on with the Strange Box !?!?
    I've tried changing LOADS of settings to try and get rid of it as The Strange Box was never there on my previous TV and I'm worried that something's conflicting within the settings of the C2 and my Series-X which might be doing some harm !?!?
    Have you got any ideas what's happening and why it's showing-up on my new Oled TV but wasn't on my previous HDTV ??
    Have you any ideas how to fix it at-all ??
    Do you think it's doing any harm to either my C2 or my Series-X ??

    Weird. I thought DV looked better than HDR (both with calibrated presets) on my 2018 P Quantum when I switched back to it. HDR10 looked brighter overall...but washed out by comparison. I've kept it in DV.
    Another thing to consider. If you are set it and forget it, then maybe using HDR10 is the answer. If I use my SDR calibrated preset mode (Movie, Calibrated, etc) on an HDR or DV picture, it doesn't look right and often it's too dark. If your tv allows, creating custom picture modes based on the HDR input might help quite a bit. I have SDR, HDR, and DV picture modes created on top of the standard options that work wonders when I switch to them on those signals and could be why I don't see the issue with this that others are noticing.

  • @exxmodel

    On PC I have to enable tone mapping in Halo Infinite or else the image is super dark. In FH5 I can keep it on HGiG and it looks like it should. Gotta say as a newcomer to HDR with the LG C1, switching between modes constantly is annoying, but it's worth it because it looks so damn good. It's not like computer monitors are any better, in fact, they're even more finicky in many ways.

    Microsoft should hire Vincent as a consultant for image quality and calibration work. Hate to have the latest console, with all the tech stamps on the box but preforming badly like this.
    Dolby Vision, actually to be honest all of these proprietary multimedia standards, is a mess right now.

    I’ve also noticed that DV in a lot of games (and even other types of content) on the C1 looks “bad”. It’s all subjective, obviously, but the games just didn’t look right in DV, to me, dim and washed out. I thought I was crazy. I have a 65” LG OLED from 2017 and when I hooked up my series X to that one, the 2017 LG looked better than my new C1 (77”). Neither are calibrated, but I did follow Vincent’s settings for the C1 and tried to match that on the 2017 LG and I still preferred the picture on the 2017, even in DV. I feel it might be something with the way the C1 is handling DV data? I’m no expert, but I’d definitely prefer the HDR picture in the C1 rather than DV.

    • @varunaX
      @varunaX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      are you using game optimizer mode? if so, i agree with you. dv looked so bad and washed out. i switched to Vivid and it looks incredibly better, with still zero lag imo

    • @akumaxv
      @akumaxv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Using Game Optimizer (RTS), but I went through all of the GO options on the C1 and found that DV just wasn’t what I liked. On my 65” (LG OLED65B7A from 2017) it just looks like a different picture. I also don’t care for the way DV looks on my Apple, so I just uncheck that option on both the Series X and Apple TV and leave HDR enabled. I hope a firmware update will resolve this at some point….?

    Love your work Vincent! Could I request that you do a comparison of the NVIDIA Shield AI upscaling vs the Apple TV 4k 2017/2021 upscaling for 720p, 1080p, and 4k content? I think that would be an amazing video and some really great content to add to your channel! To take it one step further, you could also compare the ShieldTV and Aptv4k upscaling to the native upscaling of the premier LG and Sony processors. Also would like to mention the gamma flickering while in quality mode on the C1. Initially I found that turning off VRR on my C1 fixed it, but wasn't pleased about having to turn it off. But if you turn off 120fps and just do 60 in the Series X visual settings, that also gets rid of the flickering in quality mode without having to turn off VRR
