Harley is not the only brand that has right and left turn signal switches. The high end BMWs also have those, and worse, the button to cancel the turn signals is on the right handle bar. At least on the Harley you can hit the switch again to cancel the signals. On the BMW you HAVE to hit the cancel switch.

I own three bikes, and two of them have locking mechanisms. Both are a royal pain in the ass. The Harley cap works just fine. I have a Gold Wing that has an electronically opening fuel door and that’s great, until the mechanism failed while I was on a road trip and couldn’t refuel the bike. Simple is better.

The only thing i get is the mounting of the front signals. The switches are the bomb. You can always change it to suit you.

a lot of people use the gas cap to cap the pump as you pull it out of the tank so that you don't leak gas all over your prized steed. it's a preference and also a learned one, but adding function to it might turn a negative into a positive.

@@immortaldusk great videos btw I enjoyed both 3 things vids I found your experience with a variety of bikes made for a very informative perspective that you dont get with alot of people that ride one style.

Hi Mark. Like most bikes, they are a little different.
I think front turn signal location is a cost driven item. Softail Standard is made to be a lower cost bike. I'm sure, there will be lots of aftermarket support for this.
I put my gas cap in my jacket pocket.
Turn signal switches been like that on my HD for a while. Just takes a getting used to.
I don't mind the differences on bikes. I do NOT want every bike to be like the one next to it.
The videos are great. Nice riding and scenery. The Standard will give you years of effortless nice rides. We had 4 HDs, left them 100% stock, followed the service schedule. They never gave us one bit of trouble.
    Be safe.

When I bought a bike with the turn signal switch placed on the left, I thought it was weird. Took me like two months to get used to. By this time, that and the H-D switch are perfectly normal to me. It's a matter of getting used to, though I prefer the H-D's, seems more logical and I really like the self cancelling feat.

LOL ... LOL ... LOL You know your 3 points are spot on. While you were talking, I was listening and watching. I think I understand two of your complaints: 1st) you are absolutely right about the implementation of the turn signals, but that implementation leads to your #1 complaint. And it is this: the electrical connection for the turn signal comes from the assembly on the bars. However they have the wiring harness for those assemblies is the reason why the switches are located on each side of the bars. They could redesign the wiring harness and fix that but they've been doing that way for (probably) 50 years. And I'm sure they are thinking "if it ain't broke ...". :-)

Great video (as usual). I'm about to get my FXST in March 2021 (ordered it in July '20). Yup, 9 month wait here in France. I don't get the right turn signal setup either. Especially with all the roundabouts (traffic circles) we have here, it's quite dangerous to action the turn signal while throttling at the same time.
I'm surprised this passed CE certification (there are certain components that aren't the same on the HDs with European destinations... biggest one is : as of 2017, ALL motorcycles, Harleys included, are equipped with ABS).
Keep up with the videos, they help me as I patiently await my bike !
PS, you build an aftermarket turn signal switch, and I'll buy it :-)

I can’t believe you don’t like the placement of the turn signal switches? I have a Honda and I’ve ridden a Yamaha too and when I got my Harley I was like “why doesn’t everyone do it like Harley?” I see your point though. But I prefer it myself. It’s just automatic to me now and I’ve only put 1400 miles on it. Btw, the new Pan America has the signals on the left like metric bikes. The gas cap though, is definitely cheesy, but do you have any idea of what a freaking nightmare, disaster, end of the world, it would be if Harley changed the gas caps?!! Or the turn signals? People would be vowing to sell their Harley and never own one or even ride one ever again!! It would be drama beyond belief! We like to joke about how dramatic women are but they have absolutely nothing on Harley riders! Nothing!

@@immortaldusk I knew you would. My wife had a honda shadow and I couldn't understand why the turn signals were both on the left. Glad you like it. My last big twin was an evo 1340, 4 speed, kick and electric start that I had forever. I thought that thing was special-jumped ahead light years with this one. M8 is a rocket compared....
