I have been riding motorcycles since I was 12 years of age. I have had all types of motorcycles. I'm 53 years old now. I purchased a 2020 Street Bob. It must have been heaven sent no human has created such perfection surley. I have forward pegs, Vance Hines short shots. The sound is like nothing else I've heard. The sound, the look, the torque and THE HANDLING IS LIKE BEING ON RAILS. Make sure you have enough money to buy one if you test ride one because there is a good chance it may touch your sole and steal your heart. I have a Vance Hines fuel pack on the one I own . The mapping is programmable by a smart phone. There is a lot of additional display options through the linked phone. These bikes are the pure essence of Harley Davidson but not as we knew it. They are literally fantastic. In my opinion this bike is everything in a motorcycle and way more than I'll ever need. You would not believe how they make you feel. Gushy but true.

I bought that same bike about a month ago from a 70 y/o guy who forgot why he bought it, he admitted he caught the bug and lost it that quickly. Had 102 miles on it and I got it for a song. Forward controls were a must. $550 and 2 hours later the bike is ready to go. I'm probably on bike number 16 or 17 in 45 years of riding and this is the best bike I've ever had. So comfortable and powerful and handles like a dream. The softail chassis just eats up the imperfections in the road. Great review-everything you said is spot on.

Best overall motorcycle review I think I’ve ever heard, completely neutral and honest you nailed it.

Great video, Mark. You repeatedly hit the nail on the head. People critical of Harleys will often quote numbers. But you can't put character on a graph, and feeling bad ass won't go in a pie chart.
Man and machine in harmony at any speed. Best wishes from England.

I just bought a 2021 street bob my first harley and a dream of mine to own a harley.. ive had an r6 and yamaha fz07 but nothing has been as fun as my harley. I completely agree with everything you said, i feel way more badass on my harley and its not because i want to show off, its just the power a harley has on you. I cruise on the highway doing 90 and 3300 rpm.. I absolutely love my bike and plan to keep it forever.. ive only had it two weeks and have already put 1300 miles on it.

No, you're spot on Mark. I can't wait get back on one myself. I've had a plethora of bikes and been fortunate having worked in the motorcycle industry and instructing but only Harley's have ever gotten under my skin. There's a symbiosis, between their bikes and the rider which is soul connecting. They don't just run down the road like other brands, they gallop. 😁😁 It is indeed an iron horse and the Softail Standard will be my next purchase.

Just subscribed to the channel because of this review. I'm 50 years old been riding horses my whole life. Just got a 883 XL, I'm 6'2 and got forward control extensions, next is pipes and air intake, and yes going down the road on a Harley Davidson makes you feel badass.

I had a Suzuki GR650 tempter 1983, Kawasaki ZZR600 and a Yamaha MT-07 with a full Yoshimura system before. Now that I've tried a street bob 107 2019 at the dealership, I'm getting a softail standard 2021. Not only it's the less expensive big twin you can get, but it is one of the most amazing riding experience ever. Even if I'm just 27 yo, I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who switch from sport bike to cruiser. I really feel what you're describing in your video!

Totally agree with everything you said. I’ve had some different makes and models over the years and just got back on a Harley a month ago and it’s by far my favorite bike I’ve ever owned or ridden. The feel is just different and in a good way.

Well, I have watched this video for the 20th time. I love the scenery going by, your thought pattern of the bike. Ride a bike that gives you enjoyment. I love the Standard for its simplicity. Ride it to Ride it.
    Ride safe.

You did a great job of expressing abstract concepts. That’s something which goes far beyond comparing horse power and torque numbers. I particularly liked how you talked about the Harley power band being available at lower speeds and lower RPMs. It’s also interesting that I want to upgrade from my Honda 750 to a Harley softail (Sport Glide I think). You’ve helped me along with that decision. Thanks!
PS- Now I’ll have to watch your video about the things you hate about Harleys.

Loved your review Mark. I'm new to motorcycling and looking to get a Street Bob, so I've watched numerous youtube vids. In fact, it's the videos that have been instrumental in my preference for a Street Bob - I've yet to test ride one btw. However, I found your review really informative, even though you only cover a fraction of what the bike is about. Your explanation of power delivery was so helpful. Even though I knew some of this, you helped me picture this in real, practical terms. The only thing I disagree with, is when you said the engine feel was difficult to articulate - I found you did this superbly well. Good job!

Also take a look at the Softail Sport Glide. It’s more $$$ but an all around better deal (I think).

Great review Mark. I totally agree with everything you said. The M8 is a superb engine. As for the Sportster comment, I’ve owned a 48 and I loved it. It’s a great bike, but it’s a commuter, it’s not for the highway. I toured Normandy on mine and it was perfect. But getting there on the uk motorways was awful. My Bob is perfect for every kind of riding. I’m not a fan of baggers so the Street Bob is perfect for me. Just put a big sissy bar on and strap a big bag to it, put a screen on, some forwards and you’re good to go. “Subscribed”

You may want to consider the Softail “Sport Glide”. It has quick-detach bags, a quick-detach mini-fairing, a 5 gallon gas tank, forward pegs, and cruise control. It can be configure to look different for different occasions. It has the Milwaukee 8 - 107 motor. And it’s unique.
      Just sayin’

I have the Harley Davidson Softail standard as well I just got it for months ago I’ve always ridden crotch rockets sports bikes I am 54 now I don’t like laying on motorcycles I feel more stable and more comfortable sitting upright and I really like the standard model I have been able to add a few things here and there it is a wonderful motorcycle and it’s got lots of power and I do not modify the exhaust or anything I want to keep it stock as far as OEM goes if I invest any more money it’s going to be in courses writing courses because you always learn throughout your entire life no matter if it’s on a motorcycle

Well said! Riding cross country was the best for me. I had two early production Blockheads, FXR and FXST. Sold my bike when wife was carrying our first son and haven't ridden since. I find myself gravitating to that 2021 Street Bob. Will see? Thanks for your video.

Mark I really love your description of the character of the engine and how it makes you feel. The instant torque in real world situations is far more important than out and out horsepower. I own a Triumph speed twin that kind of ticks the torque and character box but has some sportsbike pretensions as well. However, I can't help looking at the softail standard with some serious ambitions to own one, but that means getting rid of the triumph... Dilemma
