    I realise this is a four year old comparison, but still I’ve gotta say you’re such a good TH-camr! You present technical information in a logical fashion, combined with actually great buying advice beyond the “just get the newest thing”, all wrapped in an easy-to-digest and entertaining package. Seriously, you are so funny I find myself replaying moments just for the entertainment value👏

    Thank you for making me happy that I purchased my X-T20 three weeks ago. My heart sank today hearing about the X-T3 being released and I immediately began planning a return. However, I’ve decided I’m going to keep it and pass on the X-T3. I purchased the 20 for a more compact form factor. For major shots I recently purchased the Sony A7iii and couldn’t be happier with it. The Fuji is going to be, and has been, just like you describe: great for home movies and snaps while out and about or on vacation. Also, I’m picking up the 27mm thanks to you!

      most of the times that I try this and hand over my x-t20 the focus point is off. Automatic has this matrix (?) focus area that gets it at least almost sharp. Or am I missing sth?

    Just got the XT2 at best buy for 1099.99. Was on the fence between that and the xt20 but when i saw that price drop I couldn't resist. It really is a great deal for that price. Also picked up the 23mm 1.4 lens and got 10 percent off that because of my birthday in August! Great vid man!

  • @LuckyLukeTF2
    @LuckyLukeTF2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Also gotta consider prices with lens, because then the difference is defenitely larger. Xt20 w/ 18-55 1089 eur, xt2 w/ 18-55 on sale 1500 eur. That's still a significant difference. I just got the xt20 since it's my first serious camera and I'm not sure if I'll need all the extra "pro" features. If I do then I can always upgrade to whatever comes next by then.

      LuckyLukeTF2 highly recommend xt20 for starts, very!!
      "pro" have a larger size and may impact you not wanna bring it out and shoot much (same case with my canon 700d😗)
      Get the small one xt20 first! Xt20 very great!
      i love go everywhere with her❤️ it's fine that even i bring it out but didnt shoot that day, its not heavy for girl
      It's smaller, cheaper and same cmos with xt2! Love it

    Omar: You already know my strategy (you have memorized user names and their previous comments, right?).
    1. Wait until the X-T3 comes out and then buy a X-T2 at a really sweet price. Even better, a used X-T2 at a 9+ condition at one of NYC super stores. Guessing we will see prices for a used at around $700 and 30 days to try it out. ALL of my cameras and lenses have been bought used (I have more cameras and lenses than I need and want more than I have) and only one had one problem and the return was painless and easy. The NYC store (starts with a B) even provided a shipping label and paid the return postage (or was it UPSage).
    2. If there is a X-T3 then maybe a X-T30. 90% of the features at 50% of the price. Hummm....
    To repeat a couple of your points:
    - I never use the touch screen to focus or shoot. BUT I love the latest X-T20 firmware update. Touch and swipe on the Q menu is SWEET!
    - Weather sealing is important to me. That is why I have both a (used) X-T1 and a (used) X-T20. If weather is an issue I take my x-T1. (I have three WR lenses.). To be honest, I don’t see much difference in image quality between the 16 and 24 sensors, even in larger prints.
    - The EVF on my X-T1 is so much better than the X-T20. Guessing the X-T2 (and T3) are even better.
    - My only significant complaint with the X-T20 is it just doesn’t feel comfortable in my manly super stud man hands (actually they are kind of average). Yes, have a grip similar to yours, but I had to null the 3:00 D pad function position because my palm kept activating it.
    Your channel is great! Have learn a lot about about my X-T20 from you. Many thanks...!

    I work with a lot of pro stills folk, definitely had xt 2 envy. I ended up buying the xt 20 though.. I realized the xt 2 was just way more than I needed. I stopped carrying my canon camera because it was too big. The xt 2 is also pretty big to carry around. Even on sale too much camera for my needs. If you really don’t need the extra features you can use the extra $200 towards a lens.

    • @dereknelson7108
      @dereknelson7108 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically my reasoning for getting the t20. For me being more a hobbyist with the occasional paid gig, the xt20 does everything I need it to. I couldn't justify the extra money for very little gain.

    • @janospinter3138

      I think the same way. In the near future I will buy a Fuji camera. At this moment only the lens is fix. It will be the 16mm f 1.4. I woluld like to use it during hiking, landscape, nature photography.
      The body: x-t2 or x-t20? I think 20 will be the winner. Lighter, smaller, same image quality.

      Haha! Yeah that’s fair. I love the function and feel of the old school Fuji dials, but the tiny grip is one of the few old school things that I don’t really like as much. I’m also looking forward to whatever interesting firmware updates for the XH1 are likely to come out in the next year

    • @BenjaminFreddie
      @BenjaminFreddie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if I was using two systems I would feel the same (i.e. Nikon and Fuji together). I'm planning to compare the X-H1 vs the X-T20 soon so I'll see my final thoughts then. I know that's kind of a funny comparison, but the setup I am thinking of adopting is the X-H1 for commercial / paid jobs and the X-T20 as my backup / street camera. :)

    First I bought X-T20, but when the price for X-T2 became so appealing, I got it, too, as the second (or primary) body. Now my xt20 is for 55-200 zoom, because tele lens allows to focus-by-center-point-and-recompose without loosing correct focus, and for shorter focal length x-t2 is superb with its joystick

    Great comparison! I was looking at both a little while ago & bought the XT2 due to the size, feel, weather protection & especially the view finder!! It’s a much better camera. The XT20 is nice & compact. The touch screen is nice, but I don’t miss the touchscreen on my XT2.

    Even with the drop in price, for me size and weight matter. I bought the XT20 for bicycle touring, and it's still the right choice. It just fits in my handlebar bag with the cheap (16-50) lens, even with a CP filter. Allowed me some great shots this summer. Anything bigger wouldn't fit. As it is, it was a push to justify such a big camera, but that IQ :-)
    Now if it was just general carrying around, the decision would be tougher !

    I have an Olympus EM-10. Good travel camera. I was looking to get the 12-40 f2.8 but for $350 more I can get the Fujifilm XT20 w/ 16-55 f2.8-4 lens. This is 6 months after the video and the XT-2 w/16-55 is $500 less EM-1 w/12-40. You made good points to go with XT20 but the idea of weather seal and dual card slots if I would get back into wedding photography. I love the feel of the Olympus but man... It's killing me. • @AmeliaHeldt
    @AmeliaHeldt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If I could pick, I'd give a new X-T3 touch screen, flip screen, and IBIS, those extra features alone COULD make me move from my X-T20. Because they gave the X-T2 120fps in 1080p via a firmware update and I'm still salty about it (the X-T20 is its little brother, they should be able to hang out in creamy slow mo together). Plus the weather sealing. So a new X-T3 literally just needs those three features and IM THERE

    • @ogonzilla
      @ogonzilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Beat Of Adventure totally forgot the 120fps! That was on my list of perks!! I don’t see IBIS. Companies love making cameras slightly imperfect so we buy two. Lol. X-H2 will continue with ibis. But ya nevah know.

    • @AmeliaHeldt
      @AmeliaHeldt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know they'll never do it but A GIRL CAN HOPE dammit haha! Or at least throw OIS on some primes! The X-H1 is a near perfect camera but its so much bigger and has less of that vintage styling that makes it so covert for travel. Nobody wants to knick your "SLR film camera" when other tourists have DSRLs hehehe

      In the same boat here. I went out to the local fuji studio to play around with them yesterday. Just like he mentions in the beginning, once you look though that viewfinder in the XT2... It's a big plus for me. The body size was my main concern, but after handling them with lenses attached I actually felt much more comfortable and balanced using the T2 than the T20 or E3. Without lenses it's a different story, but of course you're not going to use them without a lens... I suppose if you plan to get the pancake lens or the small prime (18mm iirc) then yes, you'll have a lighter, more compact package, but once you stick a zoom (even the kit lens) or one of the bigger prime lenses on the front then that benefit of a smaller body is not so clear-cut.

    • @sergeis6902
      @sergeis6902 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would definitely go for X-T2. The price difference is not that large now, X-T2 still a rather compact camera. In fact you will need some body size, grip and rigidity of connector for many of the fascinating lenses you can try on Fuji X system. Even such a workhorse as XF 50-200 would feel already funny and unsteady on XT-20. The build quality and feeling in the hand of X-T2 and X-T20 are light years apart of each other. Needless to say of weather sealing of X-T2, which is absolutely great and life saving feature.
      Some time ago I started with x-T10, primary attracted by compactness and lightweight as don't like to carry much of equipment. Then by accident switched to X-T1 and would never look back. Here is the same situation.

    As I mentioned on one of your other videos - The X-T20 was driving me NUTS. Every time I picked it up the menu came on, every time I zoomed the lens the menu came on, because I am left eyed, my nose would change the focus. All of these problems are cause by its size, my thumb pad pressing on the menu button all of the time. I took it out for the weekend to Rocky Mt NP Image quality great but couldn’t get beyond that menu even with extensive customizing. Yesterday it went back and bought the X-T2. Got a great deal including the Power Grip. I miss the size of the X-T20 but I like the controls of the X-T2. THe EVF is amazing. It’s still smaller than my Nikons

    Hi Omar, I've had the x-t20 for several years, love it but l'm tempted to also pick up a 2nd hand x-t2. Why? The two things that i realise that bug me about the smaller cameras is that the absence of an iso dial and the focus joystick (must be combined with the d pad!, no to the x-t30). The fuji cameras to me are all about the experience of using the dials, like when i was 20 yo with my old Ricoh film camera. The iso dial and joystick really do allow minimal use of the menus or buttons when shooting as long as your lenses have aperture rings. I realised I was missing these two things when on fast paced holidays in Cuba and Lisbon where i just wanted to immediately see and easily change the ex triangle dials. Also, i don't need newer bodies as long as i can get a t2 in good nick. If you dont do video or want massive photo files then the t2 is fine. Love your channel Omar

    both, for all the pros and cons mentioned. ....lol
    I am hopefully going to be new to Fuji X system before little league season comes... because of funds, I will likely start with the X-T20... and then later get an X-T3...and then get a really small lens for the X-T20 to make it a small, pocket shooter... just to take along whenever I'm not really going on a photo shooting adventure. ... or to keep a different lens on for wide angle shots, and different situations... to have something less intimidating and less conspicuous for street photography and public events, etc...

    Weather sealing is nice and all, but ever tried shooting in rain? When there are raindrops on your lens it's not much of a feature :-) It's however useful when you're in more harsh weather conditions such as a dusty environment.

      Omar Gonzalez Photography Same image quality and the form factor means a lot to me I like the range finder style. I have the xt10 and when using the evf my nose turns into a smash fest with the screen. I live in Florida it’s a pain when I’m sweating 😓 but for $200 more the xt2 sounds intriguing.

      I have an XE3 - love it, though it's a bit small for my hands. I found myself agreeing with Omar about accidental touches on the screen. But the item that made me envious of XT20 is the mode dial! Much better than trips to the menu. I'd love an XE3 with a mode dial-and a fold out screen! While they all offer trade-offs, fortunately they all produce great photos, so don't sweat your choice too much!

    I have a X-T2... and I love it. It’s my first camera and I don’t know what is different in a Auto Mode compared with all settings on auto. But I can say... go in the shop and pic them up. For me the X-T20 was to small. I need the more weight, the bigger grip - all in all you use your camera best when you love it. I see so many people with a great camera, but I’m the one always with the cam in my hand. (When im with them taking photos)

    • @ogonzilla
      @ogonzilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B.J. Brown THE Xt20 Full Auto switch takes care of af and face detection for video. Very quick. Set to video mode. Flick auto switch. Xt2 has a few more choices to switch in. Drive mode to video. Then Af must be in C. A for lens, shutter, ISO. Then it is AUTO. Works fine but easier for quick vacation grabs!!!!

    I currently shoot with an X-E2. I will continue to do so until I feel I am getting great photos. Once my pictures are worth printing 16x20 I will consider a higher megapixel camera. By then I should be able to pick up a used X-T2 for $500 Canadian. I like the X-T2 over the X-T20, X-T30 and X-T3 mainly because the weather sealing and the lack of touch screen. On the X-T20 can you turn off the touch screen?

    Either the X-T2, or the X-T20 will do for a lot of people - The main differences are of course better ergonomics on the X-T2, and faster (at least with the booster-grip) allround operation and AF. I have both, currently, and the X-T20 is a fine smaller camera, although the slightly larger size of the X-T2 has the better ergonomics for me, as it has more dials/buttons, and the possibility to place these better across the larger body. I will be looking at the X-T3 though, but maybe only IF/WHEN (PLEASE FUJI!!!), Fuji decides to get into BIG glass - 500mm and above.

    I just bit on the X-T2. In fact, it's still in transit. For me, 24MP is kind of a sweet spot as it gives me room to allow for different crops. Also, the large EVF was appealing for my aging eyes. The larger EVF + the joystick were worth the $200 price difference. Touchscreen functionality is not nearly as appealing to me as the joystick for selecting focus point.

    Im really thinking about picking up a xt-30 but I guess I'm better off with a used x-t2 for weddings thanks to the 2 card slots. What do u think guys? Better sensor worth the (until now never occuring) risk of failing sd card?
    For context I'm only "2nd shooter" for weddings so I don't take the essential pictures.

    I'm almost a month late to this video, but this was interesting. I loved hearing your thoughts on both of them! It's HARD to pass up the X-T2 when it's going for $1,100! That's such an incredible deal. As far as dual card slots go, I'd much rather have the insurance of having that backup on a paid shoot (especially a wedding). That was my biggest criticism of the X-T1.
    If the X-T3 is the least bit designed like your mock up, I'm all in.

    Great video, Omar. 👍 You may recall I was recently trying to decide between the X-T20 and the Canon M50. I went with the M50 which I'm happy with, but at the new price the X-T2 probably would have won out. I still may buy one after the X-T3 comes out. I like having 2 cameras and wouldn't mind having a foot in each camp, like you do. 😁

    i custom set shutter speed on front dial (set to T) and iso on back dial so i can shoot manually with my eye constantly on the evf ... i tried setting it up this way on the xt2 and realised i cant set iso to the back ... also notice the tactile feeling of the dials on XT20 is slightly firmer than the ones on XT2 ... ppl think they the 2 cameras are very similar ... yet i feel like im taking forever to get use to the XT2 since switched cameras ... :P

    Hi, I am a Nikon shooter with my D610 and I am considering going mirrorless mainly to reduce size and weight in lenses. I currently have these lenses: Sigma art 35, Nikkor 50 and 85 1.8G, Tokina 17-35 and Nikkor 24-120.
    Photography is a serious hobby but not my job. I do mainly studio, portrait and real estate photography. I am tempting to switch to the new fuji x-t3. Would I loose quality going to Fuji? I also considered Sony A7iii but lenes are too expensive and Z6 does not attract me by the reviews I have seen.

    Hey Omar, some thoughts about the X-T2 and the X-T3. I'd say the X-T2s three major issues are AF speed at low light, low battery life and worse high ISO performance. The X-T3 is said to get a stacked sensor with better PDAF and a bigger battery. So I guess the chances are pretty good that they will successfully address the first two issues with the X-T3. The third issue I'm not really sure it is an issue at all. Though the high iso performance of the X-T2 is not as good as full frame cameras as the 6D or the D750 it is still pretty good. If the situation demands it I have no problem going up to 12.800. So I guess it's no issue at all... ? What do you think?

    How are you liking the set up of the x-t20 with the 27mm f2.8 pancake lens? I like the x100F with the 35mm f2.0 but I feel like the set up you have might be very similar except I can change the lens if I want. I can't decide!!

  • @runi2453

    I bought x-t2 used and it came with the 14-45mm something kit lens that is too loud and so slow on focusing that I asked the seller if I can have the lense swap. I was asked to search for a lens and found lenses that are not noisy but those were prime lenses and well a bit expensive for me and over my budget. So they proposed to exchange my x-t2 to x-t20 and get a better lens… I like the dials and joystick and non-tochscreen of x-t2… the best is the weather sealing! But the freaking lens is the problem. I am a newbie and got into this cause of a photography class and a bit of filming that’ll last two whole semesters(the filming, longer i guess) so why not get really “into it”? Even bought diff kinds of filter for the hoped to be discarde- lens.. sorry.
    Oh do you have any recommendations, even 3rd party lenses that are easily/widely accessible. The photos I took rn are subject focused so something bokeish/blurry would be great. At the same time I want to take landscapes or wide shots. (Idrk why my choices are always contradicting but whatever). Portraits are fine, but I like to be far away(from the subject,if I can). BUT, I am enjoying insects! Do you believe that !? Macro shots aswell.. grrr. So most preferably for macro(can be not so near) and lanscape photgraphy(rn not so far), which are good?
    Also, please do tell tips and tricks! Thank youuu!

    I own both - and they are both superb cameras. At that price though, the X-T2 is close to unbeatable. It's rumoured that the X-T3 will be made in China, not Japan. Whether that affects the brilliant build quality or sheer premium feel or not remains to be seen.
