    Have just bought an XT 2 from a friend for £500. It came with the 35 f2 , 3 batteries, half leather case, leather strap all in mint condition. I have been using Nikon D3 which I love but the weight! Iam age 70 and started photography in 1962 with a Zeiss Ikonta 6x9 folder. I used to photograph weddings in the 1980 s on analogue 6x6 - these days you've got it easy!

    Really glad I found this video and your channel. Was so close to going for the XT3, but the huge price difference was a major factor and when you explained the differences, it hardly seems worth the amount for a stills shooter. So I'm picking up and XT2 to replace my XT1 and really looking forward to it.

    I have an XT2 and XH1. They’re both stellar cameras with the same sensor. The XH1 evf is much improved from the XT2 and the shutter is brilliant but the XT2 body is much smaller and more suited for street photography particularly when used with the fujicron lenses. Still considering getting an X Pro 3 at some point and realise one will have to go. Great video

    Went from a nikon d500 to an XT-2 for only $600 plus a used 56mm for 650. The nikon is great, dont get me wrong, but it just wasnt for me. Very bulky and heavy and their mobile app is a pain to use. A lot of people say Fuji's app is also horrible, but it works perfect for my camera. The XT-2's photos straight out of the camera also look a lot better than the Nikon, but thats just me. I love everything about the XT-2, even down to the shutter noise. Physically a pretty camera because it resembles a film camera. The dials are so simple and easy to use, its so much smaller and lightweight, its just great!!

    I bought a used Fujifilm XT 2 very pleased with it. The saving over XT 3 you can invest in some decent Fujifilm glass. Digital Cameras in general do no hold their value. Fujifilm glass is a better investment. The quality of their lenses will my experience means they hold their value. At the end of the day the lens is by most crucial part of the camera system. PS if you want a camera that is a secondhand bargain buy a Fujifilm X100s

    I bought an XT 2 recently. As a still photographer, I saw no advantage over an XT 3. I had an XT 20 but macular damage required a larger viewfinder, am loving my XT 2 with 16-80 and I don't mind the focus bracketing function either. Great IS and a steady hand allows me to focus bracket handheld. Can see no reason to upgrade anytime soon.

Was using the 18-135 which was really good, especially considering it's age but the 16-80 is a step up from that. When the 80mm end is not enough the trusty 55-200 will do the job pretty well too.

    Hi Liam. Thanks for this comparison. I'm a bit on the fence here. I'm contemplating on getting a 2nd body to use with my XT3. But I got curious about previous XTrans sensors (2 & 3). So, my options are XT1 ($430-$470, mint/pristine), an XT2 (Graphite $715 pristine), a brand new sealed X-T2+18-55 w/1 yr warranty ($830), and lastly the X100v (US$1399). I'm still unsure which would be the best option. I don't shoot professionally but as a hobbyist (family, food, street, travel). Your thoughts? Thank you.

    • @TheLiamGordon
      @TheLiamGordon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Nathaniel. As you are not shooting professionally I think considering sticking with the XT3 as your only body is as good an option as any. The difference between the xt2 and xt3 is not as dramatic as some would have you think and while the xt1 may have some interesting image characteristics due to the older sensor, in practice, it’s not going to make all that much difference in your work. If you are just curious and need to scratch the itch, I’d go with the oldest and cheapest option.
      From my own personal perspective. The x100v is the best all round street, travel and family camera I’ve ever used. But it’s expensive and much more niche than it’s hyped up to be. The xt3 will likely serve you just as well.

    • @nathanielngosy
      @nathanielngosy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLiamGordon Thank you for responding. Actually, my intent on having a second body has a story behind it. 10 years ago, I brought with me two bodies to shoot images, a Nikon D700 and a D7000. On one occasion, with the D7000 mounted on a tripod, from the wind being still, suddenly a gust rushed to where we're situated sending the D7000 down and damaging pricey components such that when asked for repair quote, you might as well buy a new cam. Kind of heartbreaking but no point in crying over spilled milk, right? The great thing was that the D700 continued to capture our memories of Seoul, South Korea.
      So yeah, you can say that's my itch. Haha. And for good reason. Also I heard that the X100v, even as it's nice to have as a 2nd body, compact, leaf shutter features such as high speed flash sync, OVF, rangefinder aesthetic, etc.--Apart from it being too expensive, it's AF is quite underwhelming. But it begs the question if the brand new XT2+18-55 (US$830) is worth more investing on than a brand new X100v (US$1399) overall?

    • @TheLiamGordon
      @TheLiamGordon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are not 100% sold on the differing specs on the x100, one of the other xt models will prob be the right choice. I think you’ll find the xt2 to be quite similar to the xt3 and will be just fine as a backup. I’d still advocate for the xt1 as it will at least have more of a difference between sensor generations.
      All that being said, you should listen to your own inner dialog more than to me or anyone else on the internet.
      Even if you buy the xt2 and decide it’s not as interesting or different as expected, you will have at least scratched that itch.

    • @nathanielngosy
      @nathanielngosy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLiamGordon Thanks again for responding. I agree. The XT1 would've been great IF it hadn't had aesthetic issues (Eventual skin peeling and warping of the port door). Don't want to keep on spending replacements, let alone, supply issue of these parts.
      Yes, either the XT2 or X100v will act as a back-up or as a second cam with a different FL (Prime shooter here) during vacations. And of course, definitely, in the end, it's me who has to decide which best suits my situation.

    Sounds like the value saved items like eye auto focus and screen resolution are more video items. It might be that your use is low on video so you're saying, to me, that at you can get an X-T3 for half off if you're focus is on photos.

    • @TheLiamGordon
      @TheLiamGordon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think better eye autofocus and higher EVF resolution are must haves for video. The rear screen has the same resolution. They are certainly nice to have but don’t ultimately affect the quality of the output in most cases.
      Ive seen pro’s using xt-2’s with no issues but the xt-3 for sure has improvements. I think a good question to ask is, do you make a living from video? - xt-3 is probably the answer. If you’re starting a side hustle or shooting for fun. The xt-2 is a safe enough bet.

    to be honest, nobody utilizes 90% of the features any camera offers just like the 'newest' iPhone. Even as a professional for over 15 years, I've never used any camera that much different from previous cameras. Cameras are cameras, and in reality if you were to professional sized prints side to side or even on digital devices, majority of us if not all won't be able to tell the difference. Save money and spend money where needed.

    • @TheLiamGordon
      @TheLiamGordon  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. There is a video on Chis Hau’s channel where he compared 12mp to 102mp in large prints and they often thought the 12mp looked like it had more detail. That video saved me a lot of worry about keeping up with the new tech.

  • @michel559

    Hi Liam, thx for your video. Very good points indeed. I have an X100T that brought me back the joy of shooting 5yrs ago. Recently got myself a Nikon FE film camera, what a joy! But film is quite expensive and I rather have my pictures taken with a digital for convenience. I am just a hobby photographer.
    Funny enough using the Nikon SLR let me appreciate the SLR body style, up until now I really enjoyed the rangefinder. I would like to use MF and vintage lenses on my digital going fwd to give it a ‚film shooting’ style, so I was thinking to get cheap used Fuji. My heart was set on a Xpro1 but after using the Nikon I took a XT1 into consideration too. The EVF is said to be miles better then on the Xpro1 which would be really good for MF with focuss peaking etc. price wise they both around 250/300 around here. I am really torn, I think the Xpro1 is a sexy looking, cool camera to have fun with when you don‘t need performance. Which is fine with me. The XT1 would be the better alround camera maybe even better suited for MF with old glass and would make a good combo with my X100T being differnt altogether...as well as being an SLR style and you can shoot with both eyes...as I find my left eye might be better these days...a bit harder to switch eyes on a rangefinder..well just not so practical really, but who cares really 😜
    What are your thoughts? Would love to hear your experience.
    Cheers from switzerland!

    • @TheLiamGordon
      @TheLiamGordon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael, having never shot with either of the 1’s, I might not be the best person to weigh in. I can tell you, despite the xt1 being the better performer, I’d still buy the xpro1. The xpro body seems to have more character & I think it will be a camera that hipsters of the future will pay a fortune for for its looks and early digital sensor.
      But if you are having eye problems and need the better evf. The xt1 is likely the smarter choice for your own comfort.especially if you’re using longer lenses and wider apertures.

    • @michel559
      @michel559 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheLiamGordon thanks a lot for your quixk reply. Very much appreciated. Well, my heart says XPro1 😎. I haven‘t really an eye issue it is just that I did switch eye with the SLR and noticed I ‚might‘ see better with my left. Still I do love the look of the Xpro style. Having a X100T I know how it feels. And for 250 for one in good condition or 300 for mint condition...I might pull the trigger. If I cannot get the hang of it, no big deal, as you said, it has already cult status and will likely keep and increase value. And I can always get an xt1 for 250 or a xt2 for 400 (just seen locally pop up today in mint condition).
      Take care 👍🏻

    Hey man, i love your scottish accent and the video.
    I do photography for many years, but i am in sort of an impass now, what would you choose between XT2 and a D750? I really love the ease of use of the XT2 with controls on the body like my film SLRs, and the portability, but a part of me wants to get into the big boy league and go full frame.
    While i know gear isn't important, i do want alot of quality for my photographs (i am only doing it as a hobby of which i am very passionate about).
    Another thing i am worried about is that my MF lenses (mostly M42), won't work that well with the D750, and i really love them.

      Hey man! I know I’d go for the xt2. I’m currently planning on downsizing all my full frame stuff to Fuji. But that’s me. I tested an XT3 when they were very new and while the focus was a bit "snappier", I wasn't impressed enough to get one. DPReview actually rated the XT2 a bit better in low light/high ISO than the XT3. I find the XT2 autofocus to be plenty fast. For these reasons I bought a 2nd XT2 NEW for $799 before they disappeared. I could have maybe saved $100-200 buying used, but for that small difference and the shutter wear with no guarantee, I bought new. I also have an Xpro2, so at least all the colors from these are the same.

    Hi, what do you think is better: x-t2 or x-t30? and why choose it? thank you

    • @TheLiamGordon
      @TheLiamGordon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never really used an x-t30 however I’ve always understood the main differences to be the lack of weather sealing and dual card slots. In practice they’ll both take similar images but I do often want 2 card slots and weather sealing so the xt2 was my preference.
      Sensors are slightly different. The lowlight noise is a bit less on the xt2 but overall sharpness is a bit more on the xt30. I think the xt30 has some of the newer film simulation features too.
      If I was choosing for casual photography and not expecting to be in the rain very often, I’d just buy whatever fit my budget the best.
      If this helps at all - I no longer have the xt2 (because The grass is always greener on the other side) and now my 2 work cameras have dual slots and weather sealing. My 2 casual cameras have one slot and no weather sealing.

      Fujifilm never had compactness or weight advantage.

      Historically Made in China has a bad reputation, but today China does have manufacturing down. They are able to streamline the entire process with less errors (part of the reason it is cheaper to make in China). Japan historically has great products and if you are going to buy older gear Made in Japan is hard to beat.
