Within the space of a week, you have become my absolute favorite photography guru on TH-cam. Thank you for your knowledge, humor and passion for the craft.
There is a ton of people tryin to explain this basic triangle on the youtube, but I have never seen it done with such a professional way and at the same time funny and human way. Huge thanks I enjoy your work a lot. Just bought the XT20 yesterday (my first mirrorless camera)!
MY NAME IS PETE AND I’M NEW TO THE FUJI SYSTEM. I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHOOTING MODE. BY FAR, THE BEST VIDEO ON TH-cam EXPLAINING ALL ASPECT OF SHOOTING IN AUTO, PROGRAM, APERTURE, SHUTTER AND MANUAL MODE; JOB WELL DONE. SUPERMAN - WOULD MAKE A BETTER MODEL…LOL
I am a Canon user but just bought a Fuji X-T2, so it getting my head around the difference in the dials and function buttons enjoying the tutorials very informative thanks Omar
You just got a new subscriber! :) I just jumped back into photography after a 30 year break. My last camera was a DSLR but I thought it would be fun to learn Fujifilm. I almost gave up but your videos have helped me relearn the basics. Thank you so much!!
Even though i already watched my fair share of videos explaining the basics of properly using your camera, this one did one of the best, (if not the best) job at comprehensively unfolding all of the mysteries, which lay behind taking some nice pictures. Really well done! And im looking forward to my XT-20, just have to save some more money (poor college student checking in). Probably gonna get it in silver tho ;)
@@ogonzilla Mr Omar, can you maybe help me? I got my new xt20, but what I noticed is when I change to full auto on the apperture dial, the photos are not taken in RAW. Is there anything I can do about that?
MANY THANKS!!! Just got the camera today after switching from Olympus EM10 and I was stumped with the controls. You cleared up all my questions without having to read through the manual. Great video.
Hello Omar! I purchased the Fuji X-T20 and your video's have greatly helped me. I have a Nikon and wanted something lighter to carry around for vacation pictures and also to take some home decorating pictures for my blog. So far I am loving it! I am working on going through all your videos. Thank you so much! Appreciate it!
Move auto mode selector lever off auto. Turn shutter speed to your chosen shutter speed, or, for time exposures move to "t" (or B if you have a way of keeping shutter open) On "t" the front command dial is used to choose the aperture, and the rear dial the shutter speed (up to 30 seconds).
It’s great, I keep putting the camera down ( just life in general) & when I pick it up again I can do a refresher with you video to get me shooting again
Got my X-t20.. far different from my Canon 5d Mark III and Id Mark IV.. (Kept my canon gear btw). So far im liking this Fujifilm. Thank you big time for making these tutorials. Helps me a ton!
This was the perfect video to cover this subject. Just the right amount of detail. I would stick with aperture on my Nikon 90% of the time, but I want to take advantage of all the features of this little camera. Thanks!
got me a X-T20 today .....it is very different because i was used to the canon dslr's. Your video instruction(s) are great and very helpfull. thnx thnx thnx
Ah perfect. I just received my first Fujifilm camera the XT20 yesterday and took it out on a short walk. It's certainly different than my Sony so I have a lot to learn. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you thank you thank you. I spent 3 hours in B and H today with a xt20 in my hand totally confused on how to setup PMAS mode on the camera. Gave up and walk out. Went looking for your fuji video. Great help. Now I need to go back and buy the darn camera.
Just set your top left dial to "S" and your front kinda switch to "M", and voila! You get the full control of your gear. Even you can use manual lens like meike or 7artisans in manual mode. Just make sure you have turn on the option "shoot without lens" in your menu.
Thank you. I have just switched from Canon to XT30 II and is a bit confusing. I prefer to shoot full manual mode but in Canon I dile everything using buttons. It's more easy or It's just a habbit. I hope to get used soon.
Thank you so much for that very educating and fun explanation. I recently bought the Fuji XT-20 and I am sooo lazy to read the manual... so, I am watching all your videos.
You teach professionally, right? If you don't, you should. Great videos. Really appreciating the deep dive on topics as I'm a first-time digital user with my new X-T20.
So well explained! I now understand the different shooting modes on the X-T20. I am new to the X-T20 and it is quite different than what I have been using. Though, a nice kickback to my SLR days!
Hi Omar, Now, over a year later, Adobe has released it's major update with profiles for both Lightroom and ACR. This makes it all the more sensible to shoot in Raw since then you can choose any Fujifilm X-film sim after the fact. You can choose each and anyone of them as a profile. But only in Raw, not in JPEG.
thank you for this well explained video ! i switched to Fuji from Nikon and Canon cameras, and the way Fuji sets their shooting mode is very confusing lol
In Aperture Priority can you set an ISO range but set a minimum value for SS? When you hit the minimum SS will it then automatically begin raising the ISO to the needed value?
Hi Omar, I am new to SLR camera and got my first camera the fuji xt4 out of pure impluse and long pending ambition. I feel like a total amature and have no idea what I am doing with the controls on the camera. Can you do a similar video or infact more detailed one explaining how I can use this camera.
Just bought the x-t20 to replace my old Sony Nex-5T and all the lenses which were stolen this summer. I've been researching cameras for the past several months and have been up in the air between the Fuji X-T100, the Canon M50, and Sony A6300, but I found the x-t20 with the 16-50 and 50-230 kit lenses at the Navy Exchange for an incredible price, so I went with it. I shoot mostly stills of my family and vacation pics. I'm concerned I'm going to miss having an all in one super zoom like I had with the Sony (18-200) - I generally used the 16-50 kit lens or 30 prime indoors and always just kept the 18-200 on outside and for travel. A good auto mode is important for me for when I hand the camera to my wife or daughter (which all of these cameras seem to have). Still not sure I made the right choice between this and the Canon m50; Canon's 18-150 is much more affordable than Fuji's 18-135 and has a little more range. I also like the focal length, speed, and price of Canon's 22mm pancake over Fuji's 27mm pancake. I shoot mostly jpeg, so that was the main reason I went with the Fuji - skin tone colors/AWB (which I never liked on the Sonys I had or a Panasonic GX85 I tried) and what I read were Fuji's great higher ISO look for indoor pics. I really don't care about 4k video or the flip up screen on my camera, so that's not important either way. I watched several of your videos while I was deciding which camera to get; your videos are fantastic. Love your sense of humor. Also love how you provide so much great, basic photography instruction in an easy to understand way that never feels like you're talking down to those of us who are just learning; you have a gift for teaching! I unpacked the X-T20 last night and played with it some. I loved how it looks and feels and the fantastic attention to detail Fuji paid in packaging and what was included (love the leather grip, two nice straps, and big felt camera pad that came with Fuji - very classy touches, Fuji). But as soon as I tried shooting with it, I was immediately regretting my decision because I couldn't figure out how to get the camera in P or A mode (I know that's what instruction manuals are for, but my wife was telling me it's Valentine's Day so put down the instruction manual - that almost feels like a Michael Scott Office joke in the making). Glad I thought to go back to TH-cam this morning and look through your videos and found this gem. Still not sure if I'm going to keep the Fuji or return it for the M50, but your videos are excellent! Please keep up the great work!
Hi Omar, quick question. I was watching your video on Shooting Modes. When you were in M you pushed the AFL button and a set of numbers (ISO I'm assuming) came up on the right hand side of the screen; how did you get them to come up? I couldn't. PS my camera is the XT 20. Frank.
Frank McKinney yes. ISO. At that time I had customized that button to be my ISO button. To change what the buttons do go to button dial settings. Also just made a newer video on xt20 setup recently. Check it out. Good luck.
anyone else find themselves shooting in aperture priority the majority of the time? I switch into manual when im trying to get more creative such as his example of a blurred car behind a static object or if I am shooting long exposure. Besides that, i find myself shooting AP the most.
Hey Omar. First off really love the channel. With the recent drop in price of the xt20 I’ve been considering purchasing one for street photography. My concern is that I’ve heard shooting in any of the auto modes can have variations in exposure. Have you experienced any incidents of that? Thanks in advance.
Thanks Omar! barely got my xt20 for a week and so far this has been helpful! Would love it if you have recommended settings for portrait shots though! Much love!
Please a tutorial about focus settings for X-T20, I came from X-T1 and it is a HUGE difference. I saw your focus setting is quite handy at 11:35. My focus is just running wild, searching endlessly as if having midlife crisis.
I am thinking about buying X T-20 as my first camera but I wasn't sure if it is not too advanced for me. But thanks for the video I think I will go through the learning really quick. Love your vids will surely watch them all :)
I just bought it (waiting for it to be delivered right now) and it's also my first camera :) All those settings scare me even with all the videos explaining how everything works. Did you get the chance to play with the camera by yourself ? Do you like it ? I'm curious about what mode I should be using most, for basic street photography thanks
chrisfr06 i just got xt20 yesterday! i didn't open it yet. wanted to do a private video for unboxing tho. many months of watching which camera i will buy and watching videos reviews on utube, decided to get the xt20 since positives opinions on this camera! yeey! so excited to use this camera. and special thanks to Omar, definitely i learned a lot from his videos😉 cheers!! from italy😊
chubibo chubibo I just got it last weekend too 😊 I figured out the essentials pretty quickly (AF-S, auto mode, P mode, manual) if you want to see some of my first pics I post them on Instagram (chrisfr06) I have not tried video yet but overall I'm pretty happy with it so far ! Enjoy it and go out and shoot as much as you can 📷☀
chrisfr06 great!! i will check it! i will make another account on Ig for my Xt20 shots.. (im not a professional, but i love taking pictures and i am willing to learn new things techniques from other utubers and hopefully to u too😉)
I shot in manual on my Nikon DSLR with the goal of using it to try to learn patterns in proper exposure that would ultimately allow me to use film cameras sometimes. I found that I was using the light meter as a crutch and I didn’t really learn any patterns. Now that I’ll be using the Fuji XT20, do you have any suggestions re: a way that I could learn more effectively learn manual?
These videos are AMAZING. Ive had the X T-10 for a few years now and couldnt get the hang of it. But now Im feeling super confident and inspired! Thanks for making the videos fun and comprehensive. Also, my bday is St Paddys day, so it was a fun little bonus that it felt like my bday at the end, even tho we are in June. :)
Hi Omar, your videos are really helpful. And it helped me choose xt20 a few days back. Although I can't seem to get a lower shutter speed. Hope you could guide me with this. Thank you.
So Program mode can become SS or aperture priority mode in itself by choosing the combo ourselves SS or Aperture point of vue ? So why having SS and Aperture priorities on the side anyway ?
Hi omar, do u offer tutorial "advance photography" im very impressed the way u teach i think you have this gift in teaching, im willing to enroll newbie here. I have a lot of questions 😢 (frustrated photographer here)
Just purchased my XT20 today, and honestly this video is super helpful. Most of the background exposure can be edited through LightRoom right? Either way super helpful.
When you're in manual mode, how do you know if everything's balanced? Are you just looking to see if the numbers aren't red? Is there somewhere you can see if it's balanced to "0"?
Hi Omar, I love your videos! I’m currently learning about photography and you’ll be happy to hear I have ordered the X-T20! I’m going for the XC15-45mm lens because it’s so travel-friendly, do you think that lens paired with the XC50-230mm will be a good combination to learn with?
HELP PLEASE. How to adjust the aperture with a dial (in body) with xt2?? for underwater photo, i can't touch the ring and the function ''aperture setting'' is locked, I can't change it. Do you know why?
Omar, how do you zoom and still use the lowest aperture which is 2.8? I just got my new camera and I tried to zoom in and the aperture got higher automatically? How do u zoom without changing the aperture?
Which mode do you use the most for basic street photography or when you just want to take a quick picture without thinking about it too much ? I guess you'd use aperture priority or auto
This was super useful, especially as this is my first "proper" camera. I don't know why, but I feel that my preview isn't working properly (e.g. on the screen it looks like the picture will be properly exposed, but it ends up being really dark) and in P mode, I can't figure out how to switch the Aperture or shutter - the dial isn't working - beginner issues!
Hey guys can you help me a little bit. I just bought xt20. A few days tinkering with it, i just realized that if im in shutter priority mode, whenever i change the shutter speed my self it won't change automatically change the aperture. The aperture is locked in 2.8 in RED. What should i do? My aperture is already set to A. Please help.
Hey Omar! Two questions: 1) How do you get your bottom bar to display shutter speed and aperture without pressing halfway on the shutter? My display only shows mode, photometry, and ISO, and shows shutter speed and aperture after pressing the shutter halfway. 2) Referring to specifically 9:41, how do you get the shutter speed and aperture to change while turning the dial?
Thanks. But the video doesn t say anything (at least, I did not get it) about the "digital way " to use PASM.. I mean, you showed how to use it with dials. But If I want to use it like a modern camera - ie with 1/3 of stops? A friend of mine jist bought it and said that switching is very slow... : you have to go to "T- something" and use the front "wheel", and it can need up to 8 or 9 "scrolls" to reach the T position... Did I understand it right? Also, the 27mm with no switch buttons or F control.. makes things even worst. Is the XT 2 more quicker? I d need this camera also for (some kind of) work..
Sorry Omar, I tried to reply to your email but it bounced back. Where can I find the newest video you made for the XT 20? Your videos are terrific and you have a fabulous sense of humour. Yes, I'm Canadian, (from Toronto) the U in humour gave me away.
Within the space of a week, you have become my absolute favorite photography guru on TH-cam. Thank you for your knowledge, humor and passion for the craft.

MANY THANKS!!! Just got the camera today after switching from Olympus EM10 and I was stumped with the controls. You cleared up all my questions without having to read through the manual. Great video.
Fantastic video Omar! Thanks for doing all these videos. I've watched almost all of them in pursuit of learning the camera's capabilities.

Elizabeth Phillips so great! Enjoy it!!
as a canon user i’ve had this fuji for almost 2 years and have barely used it because i just can’t get used to the UI, thank you for making this video

This is a great refresher for anyone - "beginner" or not. However, if you're new to Fuji, this is required reading, er, um, watching.
Thanks for the great tutorials on the XT20. I just got the camera and your videos have been super helpful!
Perfect. Just moved over from Nikon with no knowledge of Fuji. This helped
This was the perfect video to cover this subject. Just the right amount of detail. I would stick with aperture on my Nikon 90% of the time, but I want to take advantage of all the features of this little camera. Thanks!
how do i go to manual mode if i have the 16-50mm lens?
Thinking about buying the xt20 , glad I saw this
got me a X-T20 today .....it is very different because i was used to the canon dslr's. Your video instruction(s) are great and very helpfull. thnx thnx thnx
Give yourself a pat on the back, great tutorial.
I just got my xt20 today!!!! Perfect timing for this video 😊😊😊
Hello Omar! I have the 16-50mm lens which doesn't include the aperture/A switch, how do I set my camera to manual mode without that switch?
This is what I need as well!
Same, only shutter priority. I can get into P or A by rotating wheel far enough, M by going off A, but can't figure out S
Shutter priority can be achieved by placing the switch on the shutter dial off Auto and choosing a shutter speed from the dial.
Just set your top left dial to "S" and your front kinda switch to "M", and voila! You get the full control of your gear. Even you can use manual lens like meike or 7artisans in manual mode. Just make sure you have turn on the option "shoot without lens" in your menu.
Thank you for simple explanations. Never used Fuji before so this tutorial is amazing 😊👍
this si tyhe best video explaining iso, aperture and shutter speed ty so much
Crystal clear explanation & illustration
Your presentation was A1. 👌
Thank you!
Appreciate the video...very helpful. Also, for the photo of the girl in the black jacket. Were you using the Fujinon 56mm f1.2?
Thank you. I have just switched from Canon to XT30 II and is a bit confusing. I prefer to shoot full manual mode but in Canon I dile everything using buttons. It's more easy or It's just a habbit. I hope to get used soon.
Thank you so much for that very educating and fun explanation. I recently bought the Fuji XT-20 and I am sooo lazy to read the manual... so, I am watching all your videos.

thank you for this well explained video ! i switched to Fuji from Nikon and Canon cameras, and the way Fuji sets their shooting mode is very confusing lol
Fantastic! The program mode seems more complicated than any of the other modes
In Aperture Priority can you set an ISO range but set a minimum value for SS? When you hit the minimum SS will it then automatically begin raising the ISO to the needed value?
Hey mate, does the XT2 have a full auto mode? If you turn the three dials in A? Shutter speed, ISO, Aperture?
Hi Omar, I am new to SLR camera and got my first camera the fuji xt4 out of pure impluse and long pending ambition. I feel like a total amature and have no idea what I am doing with the controls on the camera. Can you do a similar video or infact more detailed one explaining how I can use this camera.

Thank GOD a video that's 99% content. Everything else on youtube on this topic is complete nonsense and chit-chat. Congratulations!!!!

found this video super helpful and i just subscribed to your channel! gotta love it thank you!
So, we change mode with different ways than Nikon and Canon but What is the dial on the upper left side for?
Thank you so much to make such a video for amateurs! (me) Really helpful!
Wow, this is very helpful for a beginner like myself. Thanks Omar!
Hi can you please tell me what cards I should use in my XT2 for weddings
HELP PLEASE. How to adjust the aperture with a dial (in body) with xt2?? for underwater photo, i can't touch the ring and the function ''aperture setting'' is locked, I can't change it. Do you know why?
Omar, how do you zoom and still use the lowest aperture which is 2.8? I just got my new camera and I tried to zoom in and the aperture got higher automatically?
How do u zoom without changing the aperture?
thank you for the effort and the sharing. is auto iso available in all still modes? lastly, is auto iso available in movie mode? thumbs up.
How do you change the iso? I just got the Fuiji xt20 and had cannon rebel t3i. So the modes are slightly scrambled
Subscribed. Love this and all the other videos! Thanks for helping newbies like me :)
Thank you for this video!!!! I'm taking the plunge and going manual!!
Thanks a lot. So much fun to follow you and Cap. Question: What is that funny symbol on the lens 'between' the aperture symbol and the auto symbol?
Which mode do you use the most for basic street photography or when you just want to take a quick picture without thinking about it too much ? I guess you'd use aperture priority or auto
This was super useful, especially as this is my first "proper" camera. I don't know why, but I feel that my preview isn't working properly (e.g. on the screen it looks like the picture will be properly exposed, but it ends up being really dark) and in P mode, I can't figure out how to switch the Aperture or shutter - the dial isn't working - beginner issues!
Thank you so much! This was fun to watch and really helped :)
Very useful video!! Thank you
Hey guys can you help me a little bit. I just bought xt20. A few days tinkering with it, i just realized that if im in shutter priority mode, whenever i change the shutter speed my self it won't change automatically change the aperture. The aperture is locked in 2.8 in RED. What should i do? My aperture is already set to A. Please help.
Hey Omar, I have the fujinon 35mm f2 which doesn't have the A switch on the lens. How can I make it to program mode?
Hey Omar! Two questions:
1) How do you get your bottom bar to display shutter speed and aperture without pressing halfway on the shutter? My display only shows mode, photometry, and ISO, and shows shutter speed and aperture after pressing the shutter halfway.
2) Referring to specifically 9:41, how do you get the shutter speed and aperture to change while turning the dial?
Vincent Cheah Try pushing display back button a few times. 2) set lens to A and shutter to A.
That was much needed!
Yes I needed this! Thanks for doing this!
Nice tutorial omar! very helpful
Hi Omar! What is the tripod did you use in this video?
How can I change the shutter and ios and aperture without the dials on the top and AFAP???
just bought a new x-t20, hope to see more good tutorial ;)
How do I set my XT20 on shutter priority mode if the lens I have doesn't have a switch for aperture? Or I can't?
really helpful video although i m using fujifilm xa3 as a beginner
I have the XT-20 , you didn't point how to get the ISO in program mode?
Hi, have tried astrophotography with x-t20? I don't know how to set it for astrophotography.
Holden Causing no have not. Probably this summer
MrMarcec85 Changes of aperture and shutter can be done with the dials or small wheels. You don’t have to go to T for 1/3
I wanted to try bulb mode but when i switched to B, the SS is only 1 sec... how do i have full control over the bulb mode?
Thanks Omar !!! Your video is very helpful 💖💖💖
Sorry Omar, I tried to reply to your email but it bounced back. Where can I find the newest video you made for the XT 20? Your videos are terrific and you have a fabulous sense of humour. Yes, I'm Canadian, (from Toronto) the U in humour gave me away.
Thanks for sharing this useful video Omar 👌
