- EAST RIDING OF YORKSHIRE PARISH #130: RIMSWELL
Here’s an interesting little place on the Holderness Coast. Welcome to Rimswell, a tiny settlement just a few miles away from Withernsea, whose boundaries include the small hamlet of Waxholme, right on the edge of the North Sea. Rimswell parish is one of the newest in East Yorkshire. It used to be in the parish of Owthorne, which no longer exists - mind you, that’s because theoretically it can’t any more.
Owthorne has been lost to coastal erosion - its one of the many East Yorkshire settlements which have been swallowed up by the North Sea. The remains of Owthorne were absorbed into an area of Withernsea. One thing the sea claimed was Owthorne’s church - both it and much of the settlement were washed away in 1816 and the remainder of the churchyard would follow in 1838. However, salvaged stones from its ruin were used to build St Mary's church here in Rimswell, so in theory, Owthorne lives on, in some small manner at least.
Rimswell itself is a tiny settlement, containing just a handful of houses and a few farms. It does have one pretty big landmark though - Rimswell Water Tower - which was erected in 1916. To the South of the village, and the tower, you’ll find one of East Yorkshire’s hidden gems, the Great Newsome Brewery. There’s also an industrial area to talk about, a former windmill to see, and lots of rich open farmland.
Let’s get to it!

I think the wind causes depression over time here. No one seems to put up even 1 small productive wind turbine, enough easily for a family home = a silly oversite.. It is all there on google, the how, the who. the where. What the hell free power 24x7 you could be making hot houses and furnaces for kilns . We had been in East Riding from on the before 1600 (Why????) coastline Withernsea, Tunstall & North and to the lower tip of Humber and back westward to Holme On Spalding Moore even Leeds all there before 1600. We have Wiles Brignall Brigham Tunstall, Crosby (Yes Singers David & Bing are of that) In a cousin's tree where he lives; from there he has in Owthorne theses family names Haggitt Jordan Fox Lorriman Porter there but from earlier in Long Riston. A 2007 founding brewery is not of any historic note yuppies on the bandwagon.
What are you on about? This was very difficult to read...
