Glad to see you have made a start! Rack shelf per vehicle, then one for tools, one for general stuff etc. It's good that folks sent you stuff, so take the time to store them properly and use them when needed. The rusty bongos line made me laugh
A family favorite in the early seventies was Steptoe and Son. Thank you for faithfully recreating it. Still tryng to work out which one of you is Harold and which is Albert.
This has been good therapy to watch, Ian and Carly. Simply because it's made me feel a whole lot better about the piles of rubbish I need to get rid of! You've given me motivation to get started on it this weekend.
It's great to see you two working together sorting out the keep, store, sell and bin piles. It really is so easy to end up having stuff from years (or decades in my case) that we no longer need or want. Just going through my loft from time to time I find stuff that was stored for what was new stuff under warranty that expired a while back that really needs rehoming away from my loft.
Nothing like a good clear out, and the added humour makes this golden. As for the smart car, if you think that vacuum pipe is degrading replace it now! as the degrading particles may migrate into the system beyond. Just my thoughts, I'm no expert.
I reckon a mezzanine floor is the answer to your problems. Mr and Miss Hubnut build a mezzanine floor in a spider filled unit. What could possibly go wrong??
I'm sure when Miss Hubnut moved one of those boxes I saw Lord Lucan hiding behind it. What you need are some shelving to keep spare parts on, one shelf for each vehicle plus maybe a couple of shelves for other vehicle parts.
I am myself, something of a hoarder, but that was somewhat horrifying! You seem to have a lot of spare tools and I would suggest you make up a number of kits that can permanently live in the various vehicles. I've done this for years and although I've rarely of ever had to use it on one of my own vehicles, I've often dipped in to help others.
Have a great weekend Ian, I will be over to peruse your tat! I have ended up with a pallet of Unipart filters to try and flog.. at least there are plenty of large bins to fill on Sunday afternoon 😆
Who would have thought that watching you and Ms Hubnut going through a pile of c#%p would be so entertaining? Brilliant, with hugely funny spider screams!
Love that you are going through all that and keep finding stuff that you’ve clearly needed. Then Carly’s face says to me so that means we bought another when didn’t need too? I can see the return of the vehicle folders Ian. 😂
I have the same amount of junk and disorganised chaos in my single car garage; how much does Ms Hubnut charge/hour to point, coordinate and enforce discipline? :D
Still wondering if the mullet is a stayer, Ian ... And very glad to see you both - but especially you - tidying up the unit! Imagine the extra space you could create (not for an additional car, but for a genuine garage style wheely tool box). Just thinking ...
It's quite therapeutic decluttering stuff you no longer need. A few weeks ago I sold my late father's quart size oil pourer which I'm sure dates to the mid 20th century for £50. I haven't carried out an oil change myself in years so it's surplus to requirements. Mentioned it in a post on the "Open" section of the sweary car forum. One thing you could do after clearing the space is have a few tubs to store spares for each member of the fleet. It might help keep things a bit organised.
It's the worse before better stage. The huge pile is all going. Another is currently at Beaulieu. Useful parts are going on shelves. It's just going to take a little while
Finish the mess first, Ian! Bring that pile of stuff to the skip, then you have so much more overview and space! Only when you're finished, then you look at the Smart😊😊
"...(your) bloody bongos have gone rusty"? That's okay; my djembe has gone flabby, my snare drum probably has spiders nesting in it...and I haven't dared to look at my tom-tom!
There's certainly a lot of recyclable material in that junk pile - the cardboard and magazines spring immediately to mind. This is something I seriously need to do myself - and be brutal with it too. I hope you find homes for the stuff going to Beaulieu: sadly these days my other interest seems to have a lot of people with short arms and long pockets shuffling by like the undead...
Ian - you are like my Mrs - hoarder. I am the opposite - clothes etc - am the charity bags friend. Daughter is like me and is Vinted Queen - we are away this week and daughter has stayed home to look after the cat. I would not be surprised to fink a skip has been on the drive in our absence - in some ways I would welcome it
15:13 My copy of that book has the mortal remains of Father Christmas on the cover like yours but later editions have the same picture but without him. 🤷♂️ I should re-read them. They're brilliant.
When removing tight fitting pipes from plastic thingies try heating the pipe up with a dribble of boiling water. Makes the pipe much more pliable and much easier to remove.
Always remember one person's junk is another's treasure. This maxim has been behind many an enormous collection of stuff that sit's unused all across the country. God forbid if we had to do a national audit - we would have time for nothing else lol.
Suggestion: wouldn't it be a good idea to have a separate parts box for each car ? And I think you need more racking shelves. Also, I have a work light just like the one you said was rubbish. But my one is great as it lasts ages so it must depend on the brand.
Of course the biggest problem with taking a car full of stuff to an autojumble, is coming back with more than you left with! .. hope your bongos recover soon - a little WD40 and 0000 wire wool should de-rust them nicely enough but take care xD
Nice progress in going through this stuff. I was surprised to see that Finnish Citroen booklet, nice one :) I have some car magazines too, but no plans to get rid of them, at least the 80's magazines. Might let some more modern ones go at some point, I should go through them, but I'll keep at least ones which have anything about cars I've had. Problem is, there was always some reason, interesting car or otherwise interesting article in them, to buy them in the first place so it's difficult to decide, what to let go :P
Glad to see that someone else is as disorganised as I am, with bits for vehicles you've never owned! BTW, did you go to the Gerald Ratner school of sales by any chance?
That C-spanner is probably the one that came with the Gaz shocks on Foxanne. If you tried to use it, you will have found there isn't room to get it in there and turn it as it's too chunky for the application. I have a couple of slimmer ones but still a pain to get in the space available.
I did send you a denso sensor some time back it was for a Daihatsu 1.3 so should be ok for the 1l - must of been around the time you did mail bag and a table at socials
Is getting a skip a big deal in the UK? A few times I've had one here in NZ, and random people come past and ask "Where did you get that from?" as though it's a mystery, and in the dead of night people come out and throw their rubbish in. It causes so much interest I thought you could organise a street party around getting a communal skip and letting people come out in the daylight with all the old stuff they've had lying around for years. Have a cake stall and some coffee and meet the neighbours, and celebrate one of the cult objects of the modern world. It feels really good making offerings to St Detritus.
It’s not a big deal, but it’s not cheap, so you often get other people throwing their random crap in (and others taking your random crap out) Sadly, because of the cost, there’s quite a bit of illegal fly-tipping goes on, usually in countryside beauty spots 😕
I can imagine myself going to Beaulieu and buying a track rod end for an Oltcit just because, and then actually going and buying an Oltcit becto justify my initial purchase
@@HubNut LOL I not a betting man, so you have the car to hand and I only have 2 on the books at work and one of those is fully electric, so my reason for disagreeing with you is Crankcase pressure needs to be JUST about negative if not the crank seals blow out, (yes the broken one way valve) but its a turbo so the breather pipes need to be air filter side of the turbo so negative pressure zone. the brake servo requires full vacuum so when boosting the valve shuts and deceleration the valve opens and sucks the air out of an accumulator ready for the servo. (also you normally take you foot of the go peddle to push the stop so the throttle flap shuts and creates vac at that port), If it was diesel it would have a Vac pump. your fuel regulator feeds from the same port area so take your foot off the go and the valve gets sucked open to dump fuel pressure back to the tank. I both admire and sympathise. I could do with a similar clearout. In my case electronics and computers rather than cars, but remarkably similar in both volume and usefulness. The orange nitrile gloves are excellent, aren’t they? I got mine from Grease Junkie (no connection). Is that where your’s are from?

Shelves, lots of shelves, put all the parts (that are for the cars you have, of course!) on them, and keep them off the floor, cos I know all too well the problems of just sticking something on a pile that then grows to being so big that I've no idea what's in it any more, shelves are useful for preventing the onset of piles, er, of stuff that is, not the other kind... :P
During COVID we got rid of a lot of unwanted things a lot of tools, I don’t not now use any more because are cars now go to area friendly mechanic for repairs and servicing works out cheaper than different tools different cars also I don’t curse when things start going wrong but the biggest item that went was my wife shed which was badly decayed my shed is over 40y old but because it was treated with telephone poles creosote it has lasted I had numerous trips to the local tip with all the wood from my wife’s with the seats down in my x polo it’s amazing how much to get a small car are back garden looks a lot bigger now

OK, message received. I’ll send you another postcard pretty soon… This cleaning up show was amazing. 🤩😂🤩
Hope you are going to film the skip filling. I find that throwing stuff out is very satisfying. Good luck with the sale.
"My bongos have gone rusty" is definitely not a sentence I expected to hear when I settled down to watch this video...!

Spiders are lovely...Miss Hubnut.
Good luck at the auto jumble with your parts, hopefully you will not come back with too much of it.
I shudder to think what that shed would look like if you had never met Miss Hubnut...
Always good to have a clear out. You'll feel so much better and have more car storage space ❤
Good to see you finally tackling that corner, hopefully when cleared you might get another of your fleet in there.
That camper takes up a lot of storage space.
Cheers!
I've had many things go rusty in my garage but not my bongo's 🤣🤣🤣🍄so this is how euro parts started 🤣🤟🍄✌️
