Looks like it's gonna be a very HubNut Christmas then. Every time you mention Desmond I can't help but start singing Oh-bla-di oh-bla-da. Then, life does go on.
Just spent £1,000 almost getting my 15 year old Zafira B through the MOT. I am so glad that it passed but Christmas will be on a real shoestring again . The garage insisted it had nothing to do with me watching HubNut 🙂.

So while the rest of the fleet call in sick Desmond picks up all the slack, he deserves some time off in the new year but I'm sure he will enjoy the immediate challenges ahead. Hopefully Bella and Elle will be usable soon to give Desmond a little rest over or after Christmas and maybe give him some little treats for his good work from the HubNutters..

AU front wheel bearing replacement is easy as they come as a hub assembly. The upper ball joint can be purchased by itself or as complete arm - useful if the bushes are worn but even those are easy enough to replace just using a vice and some sockets. The ball joint itself can be done without a ball joint replacement kit but it makes it much easier and the complete generic kits are very cheap on eBay and will last for years and work on pretty much all cars so well worth having as a tool. Do check the lower ball joints as well as these are a known issue but seemingly more so on the BA and early Territories.

Did the front wheel bearing on my au falcon wagon, turned into a pig of a job with the inner race of the bearing rust fused to the stub axle. Took a sledge hammer and a special bearing puller to get the old one off. Install was easy though.
@HubNut the wheel bearing and hub is one whole assembly with the wheel studs etc. also done it to a au Fairlane I had years ago and the hub/bearing came off easy. So thinking the wagon had one replaced but they didn't use anti seize so it caused it to rust
I once did the alternator on our 1.6 litre petrol Berlingo. It is a pig. The thing sits between the power steering pump and the air con compressor, and to take the ancillary belt off, you better take off the wheel first. It’s doable though if you have a lift. When I had the old one out after much swearing, I noticed the replacement I bought was even bigger in diameter. But no use crying, we actually wanted to go on holiday to Italy the next day, and the parts dealer was adamant that it would fit. I tried to wrestle it in from above and couldn’t find an angle to get it through my opening - then it just slipped out of my hand, fell in the general direction of its target position, did two half-somersaults - and sat almost perfectly where it should. I had to move it only by millimetres so that the threaded holes for the bolts aligned.
I remember the last hubnut change on Elly with the wrong nuts. Really nice video I honestly enjoyed it even though most of the cars not all too healthy at the moment. Cheers from Belgium
Tis the season for our four wheeled friends to start misbehaving! My Peugeot Partner is currently in the doghouse with a failing clutch and various rattly front suspension issues! Now in the emergency Fiat Panda 1.1 active courtesy of the mother in law!
Ian I’ve got a steed you can have recently involved in an accident and written off for the second time 🤨. Brought it back purely to use until we get a new car as were already replacing as we nolonger need a tow car and needed a smaller learner car. It’s a free tax vehicle and cheap to run and insure but similar size to betty with a towbar.
Having multiple cars and maintaining them properly is a bit of a hobby. We have two Ford’s and my old Xsara picasso. Very few problems but when one has a fault another comes out in sympathy ha ha.
Sometimes - just sometimes - I am happy to only have one car more than I really need... less things to go bad on me, I guess. Both in working order at the moment, too (because French?!) - but to be honest, the Modus should get the breakes checked at some point soon. I'm dealing with headaches with check engine lights and different sensors giving me issues with my 2012 Ford Focus at the moment and I just want to get rid of it. So feel your pain there Mr HubNut
You've never tried to get the crank bolt loose on a 1.4 TSi Golf. The crank pulley is friction driven, not keyed and the 16mm diameter bolt requires two times 180 degree stretch.
how did you burn half a tank in desmond between start up clip and earlier but i though later start up clip or was the ropey idle after shopping and fill up.im confused ,, love the videos , just teasing
I’ve found that soaking the idle control valve in egr cleaner works. Had to do this for my Mitsubishi as the only way to get the correct idle valve was to get it direct from Japan 😢 Test that the coil in the idle valve still has continuity first though, if the coil has burnt out is not worth cleaning. Does the old engine from Chemmy have the same throttle body etc as Desmond? Worth a look to keep it going.
Sounds like HubNut has once again accumulated too many cars! Not an attack, guilty of this myself and have recently moved a couple on to spread the resources less thinly.
When i replaced the alternator on my 406 (DW10 HDi), i paid £195 for an ELTA unit and fitted it in less than 2 hours all said and done. I see you've got less access in the berlingo engine bay though...
It could've been worse. It could've raining 😒☔🌧️. Anywho....I make it my mission to ALWAYS have at least a dozen(or more..)spare/backup vehicles at any given time 😂😉. Spoke to a local Mercedes Mechanic and he said life in his world has been turned upside down with parts backorders, ect. Bad times for them.
Looking at this...makes me wonder....how the hell am I managing with my 28 y.o. daily laguna grand tour.... it must be luck, luck, luck...😂 ( oh, I forgot...she's low mileage car ) 🙊
Just by looking at the start of the video, ref what i commented on Facebook. Looks like Bella's alternator may have gone the same way as my Peugeot 206 one went, where the power steering fluid ended up in the alternator due to leaky reservoir. Some how the leak isn't noticeable until it actually damages the alternator. I would get the garage to check power steering reservoir whilst Bella is there.
That's not a great run up to Christmas 🎄 🎁 given financial pressures at this time of year. But shows how sometimes a cheap car can be a real bargain, even if the exhaust costs more than the car
Good old dependable Desmond, like others have said what you need to do is to get a decent sensible estate car for family life,it does not need to be part of the channel so doesn't need to be interesting, keep family life separate, a passat estate or ovtavia estate with some nice creature comforts, sell the Charade, Mitsubishi ,just keep the fleet favourites.
Do you ever wish someone would turn up and give you top dollar for all your cars so you could start from fresh? I know I do! But I also know I'd be back in the same position within a year 😂
I suppose we have to be thankful that Hubnut doesn't have Santa's sleigh on his fleet

You definitely need a Dacia Logan MCV or Lodgy. Cheap but reliable stuff and..very easy to repair😊
Where is the YT content is a reliable car? Seems your not quite getting what the HubNut channel is.
Same here. I don't suppose you fancy replacing Ford Fusion brake lines do you?
Ah, the perils of used car maintenance in Ceredigion. One thing I don"t miss at all.
I'm dealing with headaches with check engine lights and different sensors giving me issues with my 2012 Ford Focus at the moment and I just want to get rid of it. So feel your pain there Mr HubNut
Even the audio is broken!, very Hubnut 😉
Yes, it seems the mic I thought was plugged in was actually not...
Only half of my old crap is broken 😆
A good level!
Desmond's fuel gauge is still rather sporadic... It does sometimes read right. Briefly.
Are you certain the torque settings aren't in french francs not uk pounds? !All will be ok as always. Cheers.
try spray grease in the alternator bearing. unless it's got play it's probably just dried out and gone rusty.
Nope. Knackered. Sparks and smoke.
Thanks. Chemmy has an entirely different intake sadly.
Sounds like HubNut has once again accumulated too many cars! Not an attack, guilty of this myself and have recently moved a couple on to spread the resources less thinly.
Apparently it is easily done...
2cv wheel bearings have to be really bad for them to be anything to worry about, so unless that rear one is dire, I'd be using Elly.
It's certainly not as bad as Betty's!
Ellie is Broken, Betty is Broken, Ian's wallet is definitely broken.
When i replaced the alternator on my 406 (DW10 HDi), i paid £195 for an ELTA unit and fitted it in less than 2 hours all said and done. I see you've got less access in the berlingo engine bay though...
It is pretty tight.
I think has a lot of people in comments have said a new year maybe time for a new family diesel car
*been*
Looking at this...makes me wonder....how the hell am I managing with my 28 y.o. daily laguna grand tour.... it must be luck, luck, luck...😂 ( oh, I forgot...she's low mileage car ) 🙊
Ah, good plan. I fear Betty is trying to pull the same trick.
That's not a great run up to Christmas 🎄 🎁 given financial pressures at this time of year.
But shows how sometimes a cheap car can be a real bargain, even if the exhaust costs more than the car
I know Bella is older than Desmond but Bella just looks more modern and smarter styling have a soft spot for Bella hope she’s back on the road soon
THOUGH ONLY EVER HAVING 1 OF 4 OLD BMWS WORKING AT ONE TIME WAS BAD LOL
Desmond.... map sensor most likely 😮
Oh that's a thought.
Desmond had his barrow in the marketplace.
I think Desmond is a keeper.
You could do one car to rely on. A dacia? The berlingo has had enough chances.
Is it me or is the berlingo becoming a sunk cost fallacy?
has been for ages its a 5500 quid banger
Volvo V70 needed 👍👍👍
He needs to get another XJ40! 😊
Ah yes. The last one was so reliable. 😉
Buy a petrol berlingo, a true all rounder ❤
Desmond needs a roof rack!!
nad just in time for Christmas! Dang man!
AY UP MR HUBNUT
The only comment with the "Translate to English" tab under it. 🤣
Do you ever wish someone would turn up and give you top dollar for all your cars so you could start from fresh? I know I do! But I also know I'd be back in the same position within a year 😂
