      The original 250 Savage is a complete replacement for the 243. They shoot the same weight projectiles at exactly the same speeds. It's a real shame that no one is building guns in 250-3000 any more. My father rebarrelled a Remington 600 to 250 Savage. The rifle went from holding THREE+ONE 243 cartridges to holding FOUR+ONE 250 Savage cartridges in the same magazine.

    Im 65. My Grandma hunted the first half of her life with a 30-30. In 1956 (i think) or there abouts Grandpa got her a shiny new Savage M99 in 243. for the next 37 years she took her mulies and elk every year with it. People would tease her about it being a "girl" gun and she would just say "If you know how to hunt you don;t need a big gun, sonny"

      @@Duke_of_Prunes250 savage is a good one that is sadly largely forgotten, I have two model 1899s one chambered in 250 savage and one chambered in 303 savage, never hunted with the 303 (I’d imagine it’s very similar to 30-30 considering you can chamber a 30-30 in it and it’ll shoot the same though I wouldn’t recommend it for safety reasons I can confirm that it works) and I will die on the hill that 250 savage is one of the best hunting calibers ever made, despite being a fairly small round it almost always drops them within 20 yards.

      @@Duke_of_Prunes both of those rifles belonged to my grandfather and the 250 has killed more deer than any other gun in our arsenal, of course I’d imagine the fact that the rifle was manufactured over 100 years ago has something to do with that but it’s still impressive nonetheless.

      I love my 243. Crazy velocity with light frangibles for varmints. A 55 grain pill in 243 should be up near 4000ft/s.
      The 22-250 is a great cartridge however factory twist rates are limiting so I built a 7 twist 22-250 to sling 90 grain vld projectiles making the cartridge a great long range target toy.
      I use the 243 now for everything deer and smaller now. And the 22-250 for target. I'm able to spot for myself too since muzzle jump isn't excessive as well.
      If you like target shooting look into a 22-250 target build. It's become my favourite target rifle for 1000 meters and less.

      At the velocity the 22-250 bullet travels it becomes just a splatter when it hits the fluid. You should remember that water does not compress so all the energy from the bullet passes through the jugs with the additional weight of the water. The low mass bullet cannot withstand the impact and splatters. Horrible if you want to eat an animal.

    You should try the Winchester 64 grain 22-250 shells they don't blow up like the 55 grain shells do in my opinion and the 100 grain 243 shells are better than the 80 grain

    22-250 is my favorite that's what I grew up bustin groundhogs with and what I learned how to reload with. Nowadays your lucky to see a groundhog because of all the coyotes.

    I like them both. Again here need to pay more attention to bullets. Closer SD and brand.

    It would be interesting to see Barnes all copper bullets or Barnes loaded ammo used on this channel, it sure would have changed the outcome when you have an all copper 55 grain 22-250. If you want to see high speed 22 caliber bullets have a rifle chambered in 22-284, guys are getting 75gr Vmax bullets moving at 3500-3650fps, 40 grainers over 5,000fps

    That’s a great test. The next time I’m hunting milk jugs, I’ll know exactly the caliber to use.

    Try testing on oobleck jugs some time. (mix the water with corn starch, 1 part water to 1.5-2 parts corn starch) Might be fun.

    I have both the 243 and a 22-250 I load 85 grain boat tail hps in my 243 and does a nice job and I shoot the 250 at varmints and they both are great guns

    The next time you shoot at pavers, it would be great to see 2 3/4" 1 oz 12 gauge slugs blast through. Great contents, as always

    Bullet and gun technology is amazing! Is it possible to send a large cross section bullet (300 grain or so) at say……5000 FPS???

    My favorite has always been the 243. I have killed more deer with a 243 than any other. A great deer caliber to say the least.

    Try using a 22-250 with a 70 grain nosler accubond.

  • @jackierobinson5305
    @jackierobinson5305 ปีที่แล้ว

    Put the 22 250 into a 20 litre oil drum if you want to catch it, won't go through, they hit so hard they fragment on impact, I've been using 22 250 for 27 years and love it.

  • @leroymorris6036

    243 is my favorite try more long range tests with all the rifles, I feel like they are more accurate test of what the bullet can do in a hunting situation. Thanks.

  • @michaelforrester9963
    @michaelforrester9963 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well they are soft points. They are designed to open up, expand immediatley after impact and dump all there energy a few inches into the target. If you want to test penetration capabilities you should use fmj.

    Like all these comparison videos, it depends on what you want to achieve. Long distance with hitting power but not excessive penetration, goes to the 22-250. High knockdown with good penetration goes to the .243.
