    It appeared to me that the.223 did more damage. The.22-250 seemed to hit slightly above the centerline which may have resulted in less damage. IDK

      Were the watermelons the same
      * weight
      * rind thickness
      * diameter / girth
      * have the same internal liquid/solid/air space
      ???
      Those things will make the results appear different. I would have liked to see a few more examples to establish a better baseline for comparison.
      But, as always, a cool video.

    .223 velocity ratings on packaging are based on a 24" barrel, unlike the 5.56 which is based on a 20" barrel. So if firing. 223 thru a barrel less than 24", like 16" you are losing a significant amount of velocity compared to 5.56 . Just an FYI for everyone. The ratings on 223 boxes are thru a 223 chamber with a 24"bbl.

      You can kill deer with a 223, and a 22-250, you just have to be a good shot. It's not reccomended, but it'll get her done.

    • @dr.froghopper6711
      @dr.froghopper6711 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@playanamedgus2415 you can kill deer with a 22LR if you stick one in the deer’s ear! But you’re correct! With modern ammunition, 223 will definitely do the job. But NM mule deer or elk can be big and they’re tough. My preference was always a 30-06 but a shoulder surgery wrecked my ability to take the recoil impulse from one. The doctor said.243 was the maximum he’d recommend. He was a shooter also, which was kinda nice.

      I like the 8mm but it is a slow round we used to joke that you shoot 3 rounds run over to see if you got it and the last two would hit you in the ass lol

    • @terrybailey9621
      @terrybailey9621 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not as slow as you'd think using the original pressures it's designed for. If you do that 196 gr is between 2500-2700 and 150 gr is 2900fps+ out of a 22 in barrel. That being said only Hornady and s&b load it to it's potential everyone else is a good 400fps+ slower than what it can actually achieve.

    • @trentfox6436
      @trentfox6436 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@terrybailey9621 oh definitely they found out that they had been under loading the 30-06 also and it changed dramatically not bagging on the 8mm I had one growing up but at the same time I had a 22-250 and a 25-06 so in comparison it was the turtle lol

    • @terrybailey9621
      @terrybailey9621 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah 8mm Mauser isn't exactly a speed demon but the best description is a stream lined freight train lol. Remington was loading ammo for it using .318 round nose bullets which didn't like to feed without shaving lead into the locking recess and the proper bullet for all 8mm cartridges is .323... Even my k98k with a 7.91mm bore still had tumbling with those loads.

      The watermelons are secretly giant kettle bells spray painted green.
      That's where they landed after Ian tossed them all the way from Finland.

      @@jessetherrien7851 If it looks like that, it has to be due to shot placement and the watermelon itself. There's nothing magic about a .223 case. The same bullet going several hundred fps slower and having more than 20% less energy can't possible win this contest. If the test medium and shot placement were exactly the same, it would be no contest. But I guess that's what makes these videos interesting - they're non-scientific so you never know.

    You do a great job Mr. hoo tee hoo . Informative as well as very entertaining. My favorite light recoil round is the .204 ruger. It is a laser. I'm a liberal gun owner with a collection of cz rifles. I like traditional wooden stocks. Thanks.

    Never shot a 22-250 . A friend of mine had one hunted tear round with it. He sworn it was the best gun ever made. I like the 223-5.56 taken lots of deer and other game. Thanks for the video

    I always liked the different not as popular "twin" rounds, like instead of the .243, I like the 6mm Rem., and instead of the 22-250, I like the 220 Swift, and instead of the 300 Win Mag., I like the 300 RUM(it also has a little better ballistics), and so on and so forth.
