While that is down to players (for lack of a better term) being dumbasses, thats also bad game design. CAS might be strong, but in my experience if you dont have the tanks on the ground, youre going to lose. There really should be a limit on ho many aircraft can be up at any given time

I think it's usually just inexperienced players or maybe they aren't used to that particular plane. I'm pretty good at CAS and even I get caught out sometimes when you go straight from a highly nimble plane to something that flies like a brick. Another problem is that people get target fixation and forget to pull up on time. Getting good at CAS is one of those things that only comes with a lot of practice, and a lot of failures along the way!

My problem is usually 'new' maps (the ones I've never played before because they only tend to appear in higher BRs/Tiers). I personally think it takes dozens of matches to fully start to get a grasp on how each map works, and with how gaijin tends to do it, you sometimes only play given map once every 50 matches.
exactly. not only do players who know the maps get a better advantage, but even the colors and the way they can blend together effects performance. some maps have more of a tendancy to make tanks look like suspicious rocks in the distance then others.
It would be much better if the maps were generated randomly, otherwise it is more of a memory test than a test of skill and ingenuity. Experienced players get enough of an advantage anyway.
When making a line up for minor nations you will not always be able to make a line up in one br. A general rule of thumb is to build your line up at the br of the nearest heavy or medium tank and then fill the line up with lower br spg or light tanks. Light tanks and spgs dont have their benefits negated by the enemies having more pen.
I might add, to play your vehicles just like how they were and are used in real life! pretty much every vehicle in this game is modeled after a real life vehicle, and therefore has it similar strengths and weakness's For EX: if you watch how the leopard 2A5 , 2A6 crews train, you will notice that they are trained to stop at the crest of a hill, keeping the hull of the tank in cover, Fire, then immediately reverse back into cover. I've noticed that when i follow the same technique that I do better myself. So basically follow real world strategies.
I'm learning about real tanks from war thunder instead. That's how I learned a t34 can shrug off most hits, while the IS1 is made of tinfoil. I'm learning how German anti tank guns can penetrate anything without causing damage. Luckily, the world is full of bus-sized boulders, so tank crews IRL train to use them in such a way their gun doesn't clip when they turn their turret through the rock
Mark the map... Gaijin has given us such a great tool to give information to your team quickly yet i encounter soo many matches where im the only one marking the map, it takes 1-2 seconds and can save other players lifes. Did you get shot? Mark the map where, did you die? Mark from where you got killed. The mark doesn't have to be right ontop of the enemy just a rough area so people know where to look. Mark the map quickly 1. Hold down L Alt 2. Move your mouse over the small map 3. Click where they are Do this instead of opening the big map as you lose situational awareness when the big map is open and it generaly takes longer.
@@tinyzinc7344 aim, a small bulb will appear, then go to attack, you'll see an option at the bottom with their user and tank. If you just want to point them out, ive no clue but I've just done that. It gets the point across anyway

Your videos are always clearly communicated, concise, and packed full of useful information. Maybe I'm the exception, but I don't have a half hour to watch other TH-camrs ramble on at length without really getting to the point, or spending half the video joking around. I know when I watch one of your videos, I can get the info I need or want in a reasonable amount of time and then get back in the game to try out what I've learned! Some tips from a Jumbo player. if you can't shoot the machine gun port shoot the coupla if you have aphe. it will take out his commander, gunner (most of the time) and loader (part of the time). then destroy their barrel if you have a sub 9s reload. if not wait till their gunner comes back and shoot coupla again. and remember if you can't hit any of that and you have to engage shoot the barrel and tracks. My playstyle in the Jumbo is overwhelm and destroy. I use my armor and surprising speed to get in close to get a side shot while using my 5s reload to tear apart anything i can hit from barrels to tracks to machine guns. my turret traverse is probably faster than you and i have 15mph stabilizer. if you can shoot a track when the jumbo is at full speed it will make a sharp turn exposing its super weak lower side hull. it is 38.1mm and the ammo is stored there bellow the turret. If you know you can't do any of that just try to disengage and report them to the team. they are a high priority target and cas should try and take them out. at 6:07 this tip does not apply to the jumbo. your ammo is all in one place if some one hits it your done if you have 10 rounds or 50. if you are playing a jumbo take more rounds the better you get with it. in AB i take 50 aphe, 15 apcr and 5-10 of he& smoke. in rb it is reduced. i find i have ended with matches firing my apcr because i ran out of aphe
My tip, bind your MGs or secondary autocannons to separate keys. I bound mine to 3 on my numpad so I can press that and swap to whatever top mount my tank has. It's great for vehicles like the Leo 2K or XM-803 that have high mounted autocannons. It lets you peak over cover since it switches the gunsight to said top mount. Plus it lets you engage aircraft or even small targets without slewing your entire turret
For the ammunition advice, I personally like the see where the ammo is deposited, and then choose however much I carry with me. The XM-1 (GM) for example, stores the first 25 shells in the back of the turret, while storing all additional shells in the front, so it's (in my opinion) best to take between 20 and 25 shells, but never more, as those additional shells will rarely actually be useful and will make you much easier to kill.
Good stuff Tankenstein! I have to say as a returning player (I left the game b/c I couldn't fly!) that I learn *more* from your videos than anybody else's... Probably the best information I got concerns creating a lineup... Keep up the good work!
One thing I wish more people would know is that you don't have to smoke every time you get shot. If you have a team around or a squad, smoke will hurt you more than if the team can have a chance to kill the guy that's shooting you.
For myself, If I play a certain BR and country, I watch my ammo usage and play style on maps and adjust my lineup and storage accordingly. With premium vehicle purchases, I got most of them during sales or with the discount coupons, but have not really played most of them. I have them if needed, but I don't feel comfortable using them unless my tech tree has caught up to them. I'm more used to the WWII era and prefer them to Cold War or later versions.
One tip I need to say to those that dont know: You can shoot through the train cabinets that are beside the A point in Stalingrad Factory. I have gotten a lot of kills because people think they are safe there.
Good video. As a partially colorblind player, I changed all of my colors (player names, silhouette colors and such) so that I can better see what's going on in game. I'm also pretty much locked to arcade, as I play on a small screen and can't really see the enemy in RB (unless he's obvious or drives in front of me without noticing me). Still, I try an RB match every now and again, just to switch things up.
if u do disregard the advice and buy a high tier premium make sure its in Germany and use the 15 cm sig as ur 2nd vehicle and for the 3rd buy the kv 2. if ur gunna whale at least whale correctly
When I play french auto-loaders, or British MBTs I only take the 1st stage ammo, so there is no ammo in the hull at all; even if it means i can only carry 8 shells to a battle. And against light targets I use the squash-head shells if the gun has it. Also there are BR brackets where only +0.3 or +0.6 is the maximum uptier i even bother to spawn (at least in naval and ground)!
one piece of advice I would give is that if you feel angry and such get a nimble tank/car and try to get to places you shouldn't in matches, makes you relax more by not thinking about the battle
If you want get a higher tier premium to help grind your tree, I recommend looking at bombers and using them in realistic battles. Very good research bonuses and most of the time you can destroy a few bases and possibly a player by your gunners before you turn back to land. A lot easier to play well at lower skill level than a fighter. Just don't forget your crew points on weapon maintenance and gunner stats.
Trying to explore maps takes a long time when you die before you get anywhere. I don't know what this "grind" thing everyone talks about, is. I just play, stuff goes boom or I go boom. Eventually I get more stuff. I'm not in a hurry. If it's a "grind" you aren't having fun, you're working. Quit it.
once you reach rank 3 or rank 4 you will notice that u have been playing for fun but are still researching the same vehicle you were last week. it gets harder and harder the deeper you go into a tree.

Once you've done all the main things (memorised all the weak points, memorised every sight line on the map, cheesed the graphics and sound settings, put bushes on your weak spots, printed x-ray images of every tank, etc), I'd recommend saving money on GE and getting linen shirts. Linen is really good for evaporating excessive sweat. It washes really well and doesn't retain BO.
One of the most important tips you can give someone is that most of the time it isnt worth it to save your fellow team8 by going rambo and lose your own veichle, at the end of the day War Thunder is a game that you are ment to enjoy, not get frustrated because you tried to help some random person that happend to get themself into a bad spot
Conversely, most pub teams lose explicitly because no one is willing to support each other. I don't think, "Don't help people," is advice that's gonna improve things.
@@darwinism8181 i mean that you shouldnt dive out of cover risking your own tank just to save some idiot that thought it was smart to drive out into the open. Help people to repair their tanks if you can do so in a safe spot, tow people into cover if they need it. At the end of the day losing two tanks instead of one isnt smart when you have the option to avoid it
Very good vid from an Old Guard. One addl tip....Range with binos before you crest hill or come around rock. That way when you move into firing position you have exact range. Huge 1st hit advantage.
Buying premiums outside BR i think is fine. It helps the grind so much if someome is interested more in high tier. But expect to be destroyed for a few hours of gameplay, and try to use backups to get more practice in. And before trying matches you have to get some game time in Assault Arcade, to practice and know how easy it is to die, how high-low-level ground works, weakspots etc.
My first premium i bought since i started in 2014 was the Tiger II H Sla.16 on the first days of the pandemic, i felt like my friends that played league of legends spending money on a F2P game like ¿wtf am i doing? the next thing was the T-55AM1 (had a hard time getting used to the apdfs and atgms era but i managed to get to the T64B and then), then the Leo 1A1 L/44, then Yak 38, then Su7BMK, T72AV, XM-1 and now i have the A10 early so...yeah i may have a problem

I’d like to add bind neutral for your tanks transmission because it’s faster to go into reverse by tapping into neutral first as opposed to waiting for the tank to come to a stop and then back up
1) learn what objects can be shot thru and with what ammunitions, this ties heavily with AB where you can see red names above enemy tanks, many buildings, walls etc can be shot thru, but onbly with certain ammunition,... also learn what objects can be destroyed with machineguns so you can use ammunition that dosnt go thru those objects without the risk of well that ammo not getting thru, example fences, walls, crtain buildings cannot be shot thru with HE or HEAT but may be destroyed with machinegun so you can shoot .... also learn diferences betwen machineguns, german MG42, american .50 cal or russian 7.62 machineguns have diferent capabilities when it comes to destroying walls, cutting down trees etc 2) dont respawn when the match is practicly WON / LOST, you wont get any rewards and you just losing time that you could spend inside next battle actualy doing something, getting RP/SL 3) if something is "too OP" to face, research it, play it, you will quickly learn that it is not, and you may realize that some tanks are only OP downtiered but uptiered they are garbage full of suffering 4) if you get stuck in certain nation because the tanks are just bad (for you) .... *cough* sweden 7.0-7.7 *cough* ... just play other nations or play lower tier of that nation and research the higher (bad for you) tier ... i have researched whole France IV with SA50 just because i hated how long the autoloaders ammo replenishment is 5) dont force yourself to play lineups with way lower BR tanks (uptiering your tanks to the newest one u have)... either play that new tank solo too speed thru its upgrades or just dont play the new tank and play old lineup and grind whole new lineup

Build a strong Tier III lineup and use it to grind vehicle events to sell them in the market as cupom. Then only buy things from Gaijin when 30% or 50% sales show up.
lol I wasn't really serious when I wrote that comment, that just popped up my mind since it's a rather lame tip from the loading screen. But here's a serious one - this took me several hours to figure out: Make sure to bind a key to "Set target for squad" and also make sure "Automatically join squads" in the "Common Battle Settings" section is enabled. This lets you set a marker that your squad members can see, so perfect to pin point an enemy's location and since the marker is also visible on the mini map, it can come in handy to check the exact position, so you can mark it on the mini map for every team mate even when you're not quite sure where the enemy is exactly.
Always enjoy the content and its very helpful I've been playing for about a year now im a noob lol and this helps alot warthunder gods put me only in upteir so I learned weak spots are key and learning to safe shoot not go for hull shots first
Bought the XM-1 and grinded the American tech tree to tier 4 in no time flat. Now I have a preset that is all shermans. Realistic should be like the planes. One tank one battle. Then have a different game mode that has respawns.
I had a situation where I grinded up to about 6.3 in tanks and planes and then had to reset my account and if you find yourself in this situation I'd say go ahead and buy a premium vehicle if you want to help with getting back to your original level but make sure to experience the game at every level. There's a lot of fun to be had with ww2 planes as well as jets. Same goes for tanks. And dont ever buy silver lions with golden eagles.
I started three weeks ago and I’m still looking for a good comprehensive Video for the complete noob, I am not sure if you’re aware but all the abbreviations you use consistently in this video fly right over my head. If you’re going to use an abbreviation for something to explain to New Boyz perhaps you should use the full term and the abbreviation at the same time.
I have a tip for you guys. Watch TH-camrs play War Thunder. When I was still in school I used to watch Baron Von Games, Phly, Etc. Baron got me into wt and then when he stopped uploading Phly took over as main source of WT videos for me. I couldn’t afford a computer and am a huge tank and plane nut so I used to love watching the vids. Anyway after years I finally got a second hand laptop that just barely was able to play the game. And even being a complete noob and having to use the touchpad due to not having a mouse I still was great at the game. I jumped straight into Realistic as Arcade was hard. Still don’t understand how people play that having their location broadcast to the enemy team. But yeah never really had to look at armour values of enemy tanks in the hangar to probe for weak spots. Already knew tactics and map dynamics. I basically learnt war thunder from never touching the game. Simply watching others play.
As someone that's only played for two weeks here's some new player tips... 1) this is not a team game. You're on a team, but team play is non existent. 2) Aggressive = dead....Trust me. I'm very aggressive and realized I had to slow down because there is no team support. Once I stopped going in guns blazing I went from bottom of team to top 5. 3) Never expect tactical play. I.e. you rush past the CP, draw fire and leave it open for a cap. Nobody will cap. And support. 4) If you're former military, just expect massive tactical stupidity. You are alone. 5) You are alone amongst your team. Accept it.
another tip is if ur at high tier with thermals some tanks with thermals have commander thermals and they are high on top of tank and are nice for spoting the enemy then peeking to shot, plus they have alot more zoom than main gun and wider view
Slight expansion on a few of them: even 2 teirs apart, even at low teir, is a lot. I once grinded for the PE-8 with my favorite 2.3 lineup, and when I tried to play it just added in with my 2.3 lineup it was miserable (it was also my first plane above 3.3).
Not paying attention to BRs is a massive problem for new players. Like, when I was starting I was so excited about playing with some of my favorite planes that as soon as I unlocked them I put them in my line. And this off course, let to some terrible uptiers I was not prepared for and a shit ton of frustration
I’m not sure if this was added in the comment a but I will say it It is a good thing to know your enemy’s weakspots, BUT It’s also good to know their strenght too, and also know what your own vehicle can and can’t do. if you face a tank hulldowning with awesome gun depression and armor, don’t try fighting, retreat and either ask your team for help or make a flanking alone And also one more thing. Use the free look and binoculars a lot, free look is C on default. You can check your surroundings without rotating your turret
Yeah binos are very useful. And in 4.0-6.0 if you learn how to shoot from binos it can make you invincible. I use it on my VK from distance and man it's so good
hint hint : if you play germany and wanna be a tiger and panther main use the tigers for mid to close quarters and the panthers for long range because the panthers have better velocity but less explosive filler so close quarters don’t really work for it
i am not that good at the game but here one of mine that i use a lot, when you cannot see your target because of a bush or similar, go to to binos, hold left click and aim at your target (do not release left click) then press shift, hope this helps someone :)

CAS players get rid of your bombs/rockets before dogfighting and if you see a CAP point being taken attack. If the enemy tank/vehicle completes the capping of the point then it will usually take considerable effort to win it back and if there are only a few players left in the game time may run out.
Learn how to approach and cap points. Thanks to TH-camrs it's a lost art. How many times have you seen a team with more than 50% of their tanks left just sit there and accept the loss. Don't be that guy/girl.
Good vids, but I started the game not long ago (20h in so far) , and I really didin't enjoy arcade, and was happy to play realism. Since then I'm having a blast on realsim so I think it depens what kind of player you are (and you make more xp ^^)
What i usually do, is if i struggle with a particular heavy tank, or whatever i struggle to damage. That's when i'll go check out where it's weaker in the garage.
@@Tweetsix What I mean? All vehicles should be permanently accessible and affordable for everyone. No more tanks that cost 1700 bucks and cannot be obtained otherwise. Or vehicles like the T55E1 which are unobtainable to all players who did not get it in event or Battlepass x.
I never had experience with jet bombers i grind with bombers tbh the vautour is a bomber i can handle tip: keep your alt and do a dive bomb the base, now if u did this right u pull up in the direction of ur teams bases u lose 150kmh (use airbrake otherwise it's very hard to pull up) and try to take some ai units (with vautour good game 8ai (2 bases) but if u don't have experience with the bombers DONT BUY U CANT PLAY IT i see no one using the vautour tactic they lose almost all of their speed and get destroyed if there's someone on ur tail (supposing no afterburner jets) u have 2 massive engines and have more power try to get to ur top speed (must be higher than 700kmh) you are gonna dodge aim 9bs when they stall out turn to ur airfield, (extra tip1) best 1.0-3.0br bombers,dive bombers Germany ) (extra tip 2) best starting nation is Germany but France has very good autoloaders can u leave a like to this and to the vid, tankenstain can u reply i had to write this for the whole vid can u say hello
I'm glad that my favourite rank is 3-4 with early jets.. despite playing this game for like... 10 years tbh. 3-4 Rank is where you'll probably get most fun. You get solid mid-war to late-war vehicles on all nations, you don't need to deal with unbalanced BS that is top tier.. not really bitching about the F14 but honestly. MiG-25 Foxbat would be great as it was designed to counter F14s. Not MiG-29 because then, you'd have to fight against F15s since again, both planes were developed to fight each other.. guess most people wouldn't like that lmao
The thing that really helped me was every time I got killed I pinned one thing that I did wrong. After alot of grinding I learned to see the mistakes before I made them.
Since i discovered the mechanic to know exactly when a enemy passes trough smoke/ drives behind. My winrates in tanks with smoke in a 1 vs 1 situation just skyscrapes.
Personally i think that using your tanks strengths to your advantage is a good one. I can still get kills with a 2.0 tank in a 4.0 lobby because i can outplay them
i always flank enemy and there are no too much weakspot there. they show the side, just make sure dont shoot into engines. kill the ammo before anything and they will stay paranoid.
When I ambush a tank I always wait for the last one and wait for him to be at a certain distance away and then I shoot the last guy. After that I kill the rest
I am on soviet 5.3 BR. I still take my 2.7 Su-122. It is one of my most successful vehicles. I can more easily kill a Tiger or a Panther in it than I can in my IS-1.
3:00 I disagree strongly with this argument I get from people. In tanks, I 100% agree, but for premium planes, I did fine buying premiums out of my rank. I bought one because I wanted to see higher tier gameplay, and I wanted to try early jets. Just pick OP premiums, or at least solid ones. Do your research.. The SU-11 is what I bought. Kinda an op jet at 7.3 - because I’m trash, the op plane balances me out into a decent player, and I’m able to learn higher tier gameplay. I’m not saying it will work for you, but I don’t like people saying “don’t, ever” in regards to this

I have started looking at the finishing stats and seeing if there are any players that got a huge number of kills in naval or ground battles, and watching the replays from their POV. I can pick up their tactics and preferred ambush spots, as well as how they play certain vehicles. Learn from the best!
Without laser rangefinder I usually battle sight my tank cannon to the distance of one range square on the map. With this you can snapshot without thinking about elevation and get kills within 4 to 500 m easily
The tip about bringing different ammunition types.. Heard this one a lot but I gotta say I totally disagree except some few cases like with the begleit or the strv9040s. Switching ammo increases reloading speed and confuses people since you gotta shoot the one you have loaded before getting the bullet you actually want. If you can't pen something, I'd say going for the barrel and then the tracks is a more reliable solution
Hard disagree. I can't even begin to count the amount of times brining some sort of HE or HEAT shell saved my life. Against open top or very light vehicles that just zip around where a good placed shot would be needed to kill them (or maybe it even wouldn't in a lot of cases), just firing a kind of high explosive shell in their general area gets rid of the problem with one tap, instead of potentially getting in a sticky situation (especially with GB and their solid shot, it can be a nightmare to get rid of lightly armoured vehicles without HE)
lol I bought the object 120 when my max tank br was 6.3 and I still managed to do well because it is probably the most point and click tank at that br (still, don't buy any sort of premium that is more than a br above what you have)
Side tip on your 10th tip. If you have the time, ask yourself why you died in this situation or that position. It will really help you the next time you are in the same situation.
My favorite tip is when you start the Israel tree, you have to pay ~200k silver lions.. but you tell everyone you paid 6,000,000 silver lions, even though there is no evidence, everyone believes you. Then for the next 80 years it works to your advantage and nobody is allowed to bring it up

i started France last year, and when i got to the Leclerc, France had received a whopping 2 new vehicles

My problem is usually 'new' maps (the ones I've never played before because they only tend to appear in higher BRs/Tiers). I personally think it takes dozens of matches to fully start to get a grasp on how each map works, and with how gaijin tends to do it, you sometimes only play given map once every 50 matches.
exactly. not only do players who know the maps get a better advantage, but even the colors and the way they can blend together effects performance. some maps have more of a tendancy to make tanks look like suspicious rocks in the distance then others.
It would be much better if the maps were generated randomly, otherwise it is more of a memory test than a test of skill and ingenuity. Experienced players get enough of an advantage anyway.
Go into custom battles and choose tye map that you want to familiarize yourself with
When making a line up for minor nations you will not always be able to make a line up in one br. A general rule of thumb is to build your line up at the br of the nearest heavy or medium tank and then fill the line up with lower br spg or light tanks. Light tanks and spgs dont have their benefits negated by the enemies having more pen.
Carefull at 8.0-9.0 br line, because thermal sight on light tank is a bless
I might add, to play your vehicles just like how they were and are used in real life! pretty much every vehicle in this game is modeled after a real life vehicle, and therefore has it similar strengths and weakness's For EX: if you watch how the leopard 2A5 , 2A6 crews train, you will notice that they are trained to stop at the crest of a hill, keeping the hull of the tank in cover, Fire, then immediately reverse back into cover. I've noticed that when i follow the same technique that I do better myself. So basically follow real world strategies.

I'm learning about real tanks from war thunder instead. That's how I learned a t34 can shrug off most hits, while the IS1 is made of tinfoil. I'm learning how German anti tank guns can penetrate anything without causing damage.
Luckily, the world is full of bus-sized boulders, so tank crews IRL train to use them in such a way their gun doesn't clip when they turn their turret through the rock
Mark the map... Gaijin has given us such a great tool to give information to your team quickly yet i encounter soo many matches where im the only one marking the map, it takes 1-2 seconds and can save other players lifes. Did you get shot? Mark the map where, did you die? Mark from where you got killed. The mark doesn't have to be right ontop of the enemy just a rough area so people know where to look.
Mark the map quickly
1. Hold down L Alt
2. Move your mouse over the small map
3. Click where they are
Do this instead of opening the big map as you lose situational awareness when the big map is open and it generaly takes longer.
Is there a way to do this on console?

Maybe I'm the exception, but I don't have a half hour to watch other TH-camrs ramble on at length without really getting to the point, or spending half the video joking around. I know when I watch one of your videos, I can get the info I need or want in a reasonable amount of time and then get back in the game to try out what I've learned!

Some tips from a Jumbo player. if you can't shoot the machine gun port shoot the coupla if you have aphe. it will take out his commander, gunner (most of the time) and loader (part of the time). then destroy their barrel if you have a sub 9s reload. if not wait till their gunner comes back and shoot coupla again. and remember if you can't hit any of that and you have to engage shoot the barrel and tracks. My playstyle in the Jumbo is overwhelm and destroy. I use my armor and surprising speed to get in close to get a side shot while using my 5s reload to tear apart anything i can hit from barrels to tracks to machine guns. my turret traverse is probably faster than you and i have 15mph stabilizer. if you can shoot a track when the jumbo is at full speed it will make a sharp turn exposing its super weak lower side hull. it is 38.1mm and the ammo is stored there bellow the turret. If you know you can't do any of that just try to disengage and report them to the team. they are a high priority target and cas should try and take them out.
at 6:07 this tip does not apply to the jumbo. your ammo is all in one place if some one hits it your done if you have 10 rounds or 50. if you are playing a jumbo take more rounds the better you get with it. in AB i take 50 aphe, 15 apcr and 5-10 of he& smoke. in rb it is reduced. i find i have ended with matches firing my apcr because i ran out of aphe
My tip, bind your MGs or secondary autocannons to separate keys. I bound mine to 3 on my numpad so I can press that and swap to whatever top mount my tank has. It's great for vehicles like the Leo 2K or XM-803 that have high mounted autocannons. It lets you peak over cover since it switches the gunsight to said top mount. Plus it lets you engage aircraft or even small targets without slewing your entire turret
This can be used to great effect with the SARC 2lb and 6lb with their high mount .50.
For the ammunition advice, I personally like the see where the ammo is deposited, and then choose however much I carry with me.
The XM-1 (GM) for example, stores the first 25 shells in the back of the turret, while storing all additional shells in the front, so it's (in my opinion) best to take between 20 and 25 shells, but never more, as those additional shells will rarely actually be useful and will make you much easier to kill.
I always carry 42. It's the answer to everything.

Always calculate with First ammo stowage + 1 because as you spawn the +1 is already loaded and you have a full stowage too

One thing I wish more people would know is that you don't have to smoke every time you get shot. If you have a team around or a squad, smoke will hurt you more than if the team can have a chance to kill the guy that's shooting you.
For myself, If I play a certain BR and country, I watch my ammo usage and play style on maps and adjust my lineup and storage accordingly. With premium vehicle purchases, I got most of them during sales or with the discount coupons, but have not really played most of them. I have them if needed, but I don't feel comfortable using them unless my tech tree has caught up to them. I'm more used to the WWII era and prefer them to Cold War or later versions.
One tip I need to say to those that dont know:
You can shoot through the train cabinets that are beside the A point in Stalingrad Factory. I have gotten a lot of kills because people think they are safe there.
Good video. As a partially colorblind player, I changed all of my colors (player names, silhouette colors and such) so that I can better see what's going on in game. I'm also pretty much locked to arcade, as I play on a small screen and can't really see the enemy in RB (unless he's obvious or drives in front of me without noticing me). Still, I try an RB match every now and again, just to switch things up.
if u do disregard the advice and buy a high tier premium make sure its in Germany and use the 15 cm sig as ur 2nd vehicle and for the 3rd buy the kv 2. if ur gunna whale at least whale correctly
When I play french auto-loaders, or British MBTs I only take the 1st stage ammo, so there is no ammo in the hull at all; even if it means i can only carry 8 shells to a battle. And against light targets I use the squash-head shells if the gun has it. Also there are BR brackets where only +0.3 or +0.6 is the maximum uptier i even bother to spawn (at least in naval and ground)!

one piece of advice I would give is that if you feel angry and such get a nimble tank/car and try to get to places you shouldn't in matches, makes you relax more by not thinking about the battle
If you want get a higher tier premium to help grind your tree, I recommend looking at bombers and using them in realistic battles. Very good research bonuses and most of the time you can destroy a few bases and possibly a player by your gunners before you turn back to land. A lot easier to play well at lower skill level than a fighter. Just don't forget your crew points on weapon maintenance and gunner stats.
Trying to explore maps takes a long time when you die before you get anywhere.
I don't know what this "grind" thing everyone talks about, is. I just play, stuff goes boom or I go boom. Eventually I get more stuff. I'm not in a hurry.
If it's a "grind" you aren't having fun, you're working. Quit it.
once you reach rank 3 or rank 4 you will notice that u have been playing for fun but are still researching the same vehicle you were last week. it gets harder and harder the deeper you go into a tree.

I think he was joking but my dad said when he was in the Army, they just GAVE him a tank.
Once you've done all the main things (memorised all the weak points, memorised every sight line on the map, cheesed the graphics and sound settings, put bushes on your weak spots, printed x-ray images of every tank, etc), I'd recommend saving money on GE and getting linen shirts.
Linen is really good for evaporating excessive sweat. It washes really well and doesn't retain BO.
One of the most important tips you can give someone is that most of the time it isnt worth it to save your fellow team8 by going rambo and lose your own veichle, at the end of the day War Thunder is a game that you are ment to enjoy, not get frustrated because you tried to help some random person that happend to get themself into a bad spot
Conversely, most pub teams lose explicitly because no one is willing to support each other. I don't think, "Don't help people," is advice that's gonna improve things.
@@darwinism8181 i mean that you shouldnt dive out of cover risking your own tank just to save some idiot that thought it was smart to drive out into the open. Help people to repair their tanks if you can do so in a safe spot, tow people into cover if they need it.
At the end of the day losing two tanks instead of one isnt smart when you have the option to avoid it
Very good vid from an Old Guard. One addl tip....Range with binos before you crest hill or come around rock. That way when you move into firing position you have exact range. Huge 1st hit advantage.
Buying premiums outside BR i think is fine. It helps the grind so much if someome is interested more in high tier. But expect to be destroyed for a few hours of gameplay, and try to use backups to get more practice in. And before trying matches you have to get some game time in Assault Arcade, to practice and know how easy it is to die, how high-low-level ground works, weakspots etc.
My first premium i bought since i started in 2014 was the Tiger II H Sla.16 on the first days of the pandemic, i felt like my friends that played league of legends spending money on a F2P game like ¿wtf am i doing? the next thing was the T-55AM1 (had a hard time getting used to the apdfs and atgms era but i managed to get to the T64B and then), then the Leo 1A1 L/44, then Yak 38, then Su7BMK, T72AV, XM-1 and now i have the A10 early so...yeah i may have a problem

I’d like to add bind neutral for your tanks transmission because it’s faster to go into reverse by tapping into neutral first as opposed to waiting for the tank to come to a stop and then back up
1) learn what objects can be shot thru and with what ammunitions, this ties heavily with AB where you can see red names above enemy tanks, many buildings, walls etc can be shot thru, but onbly with certain ammunition,... also learn what objects can be destroyed with machineguns so you can use ammunition that dosnt go thru those objects without the risk of well that ammo not getting thru, example fences, walls, crtain buildings cannot be shot thru with HE or HEAT but may be destroyed with machinegun so you can shoot .... also learn diferences betwen machineguns, german MG42, american .50 cal or russian 7.62 machineguns have diferent capabilities when it comes to destroying walls, cutting down trees etc
2) dont respawn when the match is practicly WON / LOST, you wont get any rewards and you just losing time that you could spend inside next battle actualy doing something, getting RP/SL
3) if something is "too OP" to face, research it, play it, you will quickly learn that it is not, and you may realize that some tanks are only OP downtiered but uptiered they are garbage full of suffering
4) if you get stuck in certain nation because the tanks are just bad (for you) .... *cough* sweden 7.0-7.7 *cough* ... just play other nations or play lower tier of that nation and research the higher (bad for you) tier ... i have researched whole France IV with SA50 just because i hated how long the autoloaders ammo replenishment is
5) dont force yourself to play lineups with way lower BR tanks (uptiering your tanks to the newest one u have)... either play that new tank solo too speed thru its upgrades or just dont play the new tank and play old lineup and grind whole new lineup

Build a strong Tier III lineup and use it to grind vehicle events to sell them in the market as cupom. Then only buy things from Gaijin when 30% or 50% sales show up.
lol I wasn't really serious when I wrote that comment, that just popped up my mind since it's a rather lame tip from the loading screen.
But here's a serious one - this took me several hours to figure out: Make sure to bind a key to "Set target for squad" and also make sure "Automatically join squads" in the "Common Battle Settings" section is enabled. This lets you set a marker that your squad members can see, so perfect to pin point an enemy's location and since the marker is also visible on the mini map, it can come in handy to check the exact position, so you can mark it on the mini map for every team mate even when you're not quite sure where the enemy is exactly.

Bought the XM-1 and grinded the American tech tree to tier 4 in no time flat. Now I have a preset that is all shermans. Realistic should be like the planes. One tank one battle. Then have a different game mode that has respawns.
I had a situation where I grinded up to about 6.3 in tanks and planes and then had to reset my account and if you find yourself in this situation I'd say go ahead and buy a premium vehicle if you want to help with getting back to your original level but make sure to experience the game at every level. There's a lot of fun to be had with ww2 planes as well as jets. Same goes for tanks. And dont ever buy silver lions with golden eagles.

I have a tip for you guys. Watch TH-camrs play War Thunder. When I was still in school I used to watch Baron Von Games, Phly, Etc. Baron got me into wt and then when he stopped uploading Phly took over as main source of WT videos for me.
I couldn’t afford a computer and am a huge tank and plane nut so I used to love watching the vids. Anyway after years I finally got a second hand laptop that just barely was able to play the game. And even being a complete noob and having to use the touchpad due to not having a mouse I still was great at the game. I jumped straight into Realistic as Arcade was hard. Still don’t understand how people play that having their location broadcast to the enemy team. But yeah never really had to look at armour values of enemy tanks in the hangar to probe for weak spots. Already knew tactics and map dynamics. I basically learnt war thunder from never touching the game. Simply watching others play.
As someone that's only played for two weeks here's some new player tips...
1) this is not a team game. You're on a team, but team play is non existent.
2) Aggressive = dead....Trust me. I'm very aggressive and realized I had to slow down because there is no team support. Once I stopped going in guns blazing I went from bottom of team to top 5.
3) Never expect tactical play. I.e. you rush past the CP, draw fire and leave it open for a cap. Nobody will cap. And support.
4) If you're former military, just expect massive tactical stupidity. You are alone.
5) You are alone amongst your team. Accept it.
another tip is if ur at high tier with thermals some tanks with thermals have commander thermals and they are high on top of tank and are nice for spoting the enemy then peeking to shot, plus they have alot more zoom than main gun and wider view
Slight expansion on a few of them: even 2 teirs apart, even at low teir, is a lot. I once grinded for the PE-8 with my favorite 2.3 lineup, and when I tried to play it just added in with my 2.3 lineup it was miserable (it was also my first plane above 3.3).
Not paying attention to BRs is a massive problem for new players.
Like, when I was starting I was so excited about playing with some of my favorite planes that as soon as I unlocked them I put them in my line.
And this off course, let to some terrible uptiers I was not prepared for and a shit ton of frustration

It is a good thing to know your enemy’s weakspots, BUT
It’s also good to know their strenght too, and also know what your own vehicle can and can’t do.
if you face a tank hulldowning with awesome gun depression and armor, don’t try fighting, retreat and either ask your team for help or make a flanking alone
And also one more thing. Use the free look and binoculars a lot, free look is C on default. You can check your surroundings without rotating your turret
Yeah binos are very useful. And in 4.0-6.0 if you learn how to shoot from binos it can make you invincible. I use it on my VK from distance and man it's so good
hint hint : if you play germany and wanna be a tiger and panther main use the tigers for mid to close quarters and the panthers for long range because the panthers have better velocity but less explosive filler so close quarters don’t really work for it
My number 1 tip is to just have patience...
i am not that good at the game but here one of mine that i use a lot, when you cannot see your target because of a bush or similar, go to to binos, hold left click and aim at your target (do not release left click) then press shift, hope this helps someone :)
Tip, you can use your bino's to shoot. Very useful at times.

CAS players get rid of your bombs/rockets before dogfighting and if you see a CAP point being taken attack. If the enemy tank/vehicle completes the capping of the point then it will usually take considerable effort to win it back and if there are only a few players left in the game time may run out.
Learn how to approach and cap points. Thanks to TH-camrs it's a lost art. How many times have you seen a team with more than 50% of their tanks left just sit there and accept the loss. Don't be that guy/girl.
Good vids, but I started the game not long ago (20h in so far) , and I really didin't enjoy arcade, and was happy to play realism. Since then I'm having a blast on realsim so I think it depens what kind of player you are (and you make more xp ^^)
What i usually do, is if i struggle with a particular heavy tank, or whatever i struggle to damage. That's when i'll go check out where it's weaker in the garage.
Buy crew slot and level up that crew slot by playing reserve or your comfortable tank to level it up
Another tip: Never accept vehicle exclusivity. Everyone should have access to all vehicles.

I never had experience with jet bombers i grind with bombers tbh the vautour is a bomber i can handle tip: keep your alt and do a dive bomb the base, now if u did this right u pull up in the direction of ur teams bases u lose 150kmh (use airbrake otherwise it's very hard to pull up) and try to take some ai units (with vautour good game 8ai (2 bases) but if u don't have experience with the bombers DONT BUY U CANT PLAY IT i see no one using the vautour tactic they lose almost all of their speed and get destroyed if there's someone on ur tail (supposing no afterburner jets) u have 2 massive engines and have more power try to get to ur top speed (must be higher than 700kmh) you are gonna dodge aim 9bs when they stall out turn to ur airfield, (extra tip1) best 1.0-3.0br bombers,dive bombers Germany ) (extra tip 2) best starting nation is Germany but France has very good autoloaders can u leave a like to this and to the vid, tankenstain can u reply i had to write this for the whole vid can u say hello
I'm glad that my favourite rank is 3-4 with early jets.. despite playing this game for like... 10 years tbh. 3-4 Rank is where you'll probably get most fun. You get solid mid-war to late-war vehicles on all nations, you don't need to deal with unbalanced BS that is top tier.. not really bitching about the F14 but honestly. MiG-25 Foxbat would be great as it was designed to counter F14s. Not MiG-29 because then, you'd have to fight against F15s since again, both planes were developed to fight each other.. guess most people wouldn't like that lmao

Since i discovered the mechanic to know exactly when a enemy passes trough smoke/ drives behind. My winrates in tanks with smoke in a 1 vs 1 situation just skyscrapes.

i always flank enemy and there are no too much weakspot there. they show the side, just make sure dont shoot into engines. kill the ammo before anything and they will stay paranoid.
When I ambush a tank I always wait for the last one and wait for him to be at a certain distance away and then I shoot the last guy. After that I kill the rest
I am on soviet 5.3 BR. I still take my 2.7 Su-122. It is one of my most successful vehicles. I can more easily kill a Tiger or a Panther in it than I can in my IS-1.

I disagree strongly with this argument I get from people. In tanks, I 100% agree, but for premium planes, I did fine buying premiums out of my rank. I bought one because I wanted to see higher tier gameplay, and I wanted to try early jets. Just pick OP premiums, or at least solid ones. Do your research..
The SU-11 is what I bought. Kinda an op jet at 7.3 - because I’m trash, the op plane balances me out into a decent player, and I’m able to learn higher tier gameplay.
I’m not saying it will work for you, but I don’t like people saying “don’t, ever” in regards to this

I have started looking at the finishing stats and seeing if there are any players that got a huge number of kills in naval or ground battles, and watching the replays from their POV. I can pick up their tactics and preferred ambush spots, as well as how they play certain vehicles. Learn from the best!

Without laser rangefinder I usually battle sight my tank cannon to the distance of one range square on the map. With this you can snapshot without thinking about elevation and get kills within 4 to 500 m easily
The tip about bringing different ammunition types.. Heard this one a lot but I gotta say I totally disagree except some few cases like with the begleit or the strv9040s. Switching ammo increases reloading speed and confuses people since you gotta shoot the one you have loaded before getting the bullet you actually want. If you can't pen something, I'd say going for the barrel and then the tracks is a more reliable solution
Hard disagree. I can't even begin to count the amount of times brining some sort of HE or HEAT shell saved my life. Against open top or very light vehicles that just zip around where a good placed shot would be needed to kill them (or maybe it even wouldn't in a lot of cases), just firing a kind of high explosive shell in their general area gets rid of the problem with one tap, instead of potentially getting in a sticky situation (especially with GB and their solid shot, it can be a nightmare to get rid of lightly armoured vehicles without HE)
lol I bought the object 120 when my max tank br was 6.3 and I still managed to do well because it is probably the most point and click tank at that br (still, don't buy any sort of premium that is more than a br above what you have)

Using GE for RP on the last little bit of modifications at top tier can be worth it because it saves you the SL. I'm talking 1-10 GE.
My favorite tip is when you start the Israel tree, you have to pay ~200k silver lions.. but you tell everyone you paid 6,000,000 silver lions, even though there is no evidence, everyone believes you. Then for the next 80 years it works to your advantage and nobody is allowed to bring it up
