I loved the photo of the guy on the bike with the flowers!! ❤ I don't think front on would have been better. The shot you got seems more dramatic and tells a great story... he's in a hurry to get the flowers to his special someone. The flowers look good from your angle 👍
Mann this is great perspective! Love how we all see differently
@@MikeChudley The front would’ve been worse, we see it from your video. It’s a brown blob of paper vs the shape of the flowers, he looks at your lens, and there’s a distracting car in the background. You nailed the shot. The flowers kind of perfectly covering his head also makes it interesting. You get the whole body and your brain wants to find the head and face and there’s flowers covering it. It works well.
I like the rear shot too
Agreed, showing the face would have divulged too much. My second favourite shot of the day, with sun shining coming first and the candid gentleman's portrait at number 3.
I also was glad you got this from behind the rider. One detail I love is how the squiggling road markings compliment the motion blur to assentuate a sense of chaos and hurry in an otherwise peaceful and serene city shot.
I agree. Your photo of the guy riding past with the flowers was your best shot. Perfect amount of blur..
Absolutely love these pov videos and your thought process behind it! Congrats on 100K subs. Well deserved
The shot with the guy on the bike with the flowers and slow shutter is great. I think it works better with his face not in it. Don’t think you missed the moment at all.
Funny, a few people have said the same - glad you like it!
That photo of ‘when the sun shines on you’ is an absolute cracker. Love the colours and the way it all comes together 👏👏👏
Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for watching
Great to be able to come along with you. I could feel all your decision making too, which was fun. Thx!
Your first human interaction and subsequent photo capture of that gentleman was great
Enjoyed taking a walk with you so to speak, and your straight talking about street photography reality. Oh and prints and pints... awesome
I love the POV content, I feel like I’ve been out there with you, and some cracking images. 👏👏👏
300 raw files to get 20 you are happy with is a real good thing to hear as an aspiring street and travel photographer very much on the start of his journey, and if clearly need to be shooting more. Thanks!
loving these kinds of videos!
and I love to read this type of comment
Loving this format Mike. Keep the amazing wok and inspiring :)
Definitely went to do more of this!
Love your work and have subscribed. Looking forward to more. Cheers from Australia.
As a new (1 year in) photographer i really appreciated this video. Sometimes its easy to believe youtubers go out and smash it with 20 awesome photos everytime they go out.
This is a great video. Very helpful and interesting to hear your thought process and see the non-keeper shots, along with the ones that did work. Thanks.
wow. Love the documentary approach to this video and your pictures.
Really nice video! I'm planning on doing some street ph tomorrow, after so many months without a camera on my hands and I needed some inspiration, your video was it! Also, what a great idea sharing books about photography, so nice and inspiring! thank you for sharing😄
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked it - have fun on the streets
The shot with the shadow of the tree on the side of the truck is great! Nice video
Dude with the newspaper was by far my fav!
Great to see how it really is. People think its easy, but it takes a lot of effort. Nicely done.
Exactly :)
Love the music.
I liked the street performer shaking hands with security best. That shot is telling a story. Thanks for sharing your train of thoughts. And the video didn't feel like 16 minutes long, so kudos for your pacing in the edit.
Thanks, glad you liked that image and the video itself ✌️
I was in London this day too, spotted you at Trafalgar Square.
Great video as always.
Hi Mike. Love this kind of video giving the thought process behind images. Love the shot of the guy on the bike with flowers. I like the mystery of not seeing his face and the motion blur showing he’s in a hurry. Despite knowing the extra work involved, I’d love to see the settings used for each shot. I think it would be even more informative. Thanks for the vids🤙
Thanks for that video❤
Love the type of videos you make. Your content feels true and relatable, which is something I deeply appreciate. One gets sick of creators sharing 'awe-inspiring' and/or pretentious stuff. Give me your videos sharing a humble approach to long photography walks + thought process any time of the day. What you do is as inspiring as it gets, just getting up and going to work. Cheers mate.
Unrelated: it surprises me to see that you hardly add vignette to your photos, not even the b&w ones. You just don't like it? Just out of sheer curiosity
The best photography video on TH-cam.👍
Very useful “ride along” for us…the real part of the work.
Subscribed! Nice content and chilled watch ! 📸
Really liked your video… especially how discerning you were about what was or wasn’t achieved. But letting us into your head in terms of your thinking
I really enjoyed your video Mike. My fav pic was the man on bike with flowers.
Glad you enjoyed it
I like your thoughts they’re very inspirational. Wonderful photos!
Thank you so much!
I realy loved this video. Thank you
Congratulations on hitting 100k subs :-)
Thank you!!
the one with the gentleman holding newspapers is such a good picture
Glad you liked that!
I agree! I think the cropped hair also adds to it as it feels slightly claustrophobic/ stressful like perhaps his job
This kind of videos are great
That was really interesting. Listening to your thought process about the day made me realise that I’m not the only one who can spend hours looking for a shot to take.
Most of the day is not taking any pictures until those few split seconds when it’s go go go haha
3:06 I think leaving the frame is actually better here because the flowers obstruct the face and your eye wants to go there. That’s what makes the photo interesting. A biker and his head is flowers. We can see roughly what the shot would look like when he’s coming: it’s just a blob of brown paper vs the shape of the flowers, a distracting car in the background, and he’s looking at your lens. Leaving is the much better shot, you nailed it.
This is really interesting to hear and this is the 2nd comment to mention the same thing - thank you for the kind words. It's interesting how we all have different perspectives.
@@MikeChudley I actually thought this at the time of seeing it as well and was looking to see if someone else commented the same. With the cyclist leaving the frame there's more anonymity and therefore more intrigue/interest in my opinion.
Late night jazz meets street photography, not a bad combo.
I enjoyed very much the refreshing brutal honesty you adopted
I appreciate that - I’ll do more of this
"Leica mentioned earlier"
wowo the sun shines is the best!
9:04, great photograph
Glad you liked that!
I think taking a picture of the people watching the real life window display would have been interesting. Kind of like people watching other people live their life, kind of like a human zoo lol.
Can’t wait to try street photography myself! Definitely gave me some inspiration.
What a great end to the day. I wish it was more affordable/closer for me to get to London.
Much inspiration and to learn in this video - tanks
Glad you liked it!
B&W represents the story that we can tell. Great photos
Thanks!! Turns out after a few weeks since making this. I love the b&w flower bike photo now haha
@@MikeChudley Flower bike photo is also one of my favorites. An interesting moment
This was fascinating and pleasing to hear that from 300 shots you picked around 20. I’m often deleting 98% of the shots I take. Amazing photos, keep up the good work 👍🏻
@@garycarlson1994 do you realise you come across as a total d!(k with comments like this? Probably not. Bore off buddy, there’s a good lad. Back to the comfort of your own ego.
I honestly thought the bike photo was best w/o the face in it. Great vid
The telephone image with the guy depicts how far technology has come!
I have a bit of a contradiction with photography I'm also a hobby photographer from the UK btw. That I find a lot of candid street photography of people bit meh some great photos don't get me wrong . But I tend to try go for the "cinematic" aesthetic shots that instantly look better in my opinion.
but I wonder in time that the candid street photography of today will grow in appreciation has a snap shot of our time period in a similar way we look back on candid street photography from the 60s 70s 80s ect. Maybe in time photos that we think today are meh and ordinary will age like a fine wine.
Bit of a tangent but your video got me thinking about it
Great video as always!, btw which keyboard are you using?
Lloyd’s of London building is arguably one of the best and the coolest-looking building in London.
Mike, I really value and enjoy the creative flexibility my M11P gives me with regard to cropping. With the 60MP sensor, I can tweak the crop aggressively, if needed, and still have enough remaining image data.
Video is sick but yeah the 28mm Summilux and Summicron have been my favorite walk around and portrait lenses. Highly recommend.
What kind of sling bag are you wearing?
Great video! Thanks for bringing us with you. I was wondering how many hours you were walking around for in order to take 300+ photos?
Grrreat. beautifully honest 👍🏻
Another quality vlog. Great to hear and see your thought process. Nice one 👍🏻. Although I must ask, 9:36 you said “Leica said earlier” just at the right time, I’m taking that as clever editing rather than coincidence. 😉
My fave is the blue bikes
00:35 Put a smile on my face, What a lovely Leica leather wrap 🙂
Every city which has an open top bus circular service, on a good weather day, is always worth trying. Get a seat early in the day and get a seat on the top deck at the back. This will give you views that you simply will not get in any other way because you are not at street level.
Also during the first bus circuit, mark on a map where you'd like to get off and look at interesting stuff and then on the second circuit, get off to examine what you think is interesting and back on again after the photographs. It's a fabulous way of documenting a city, for not much money and without wearing-out your shoe leather. You can also throw-in a restaurant stop for great food and a glass of wine.
My favourite photograph was the 'Two bicycles - Look shot'.
thanks Mike, I don't comment often on videos but I liked this one a great deal. Also I think you're being harsh on yourself abou tcutting the guy's head off carrying the papers, I think it's a wonderful image and that you'll look back it one day and be glad you kept it. Obviously it's all subjective. Keep on shooting.
15:04 “Missing” the top of his head does not take away from this image, at all. Great video - thanks for sharing your thought process.
Thanks for watching!
When you talk about always keeping it moving, are we talking about the guy approaching at 5:30 with the water bottle in his hand
Hey Mike. Love the honesty on the video and really high lights the average day of a street photographer . I'm looking into getting into street photography as a new hobby. Just wondering if you could recommend a good starter camera/ lens? My budget is around £350 if that helps with a recommendation. Thanks
Finally new video,Hello I'm from Indonesia, I watched this video at 1:23 am😂
There's a vertical frame with the lady in red and black you missed at 5:49. I find looking to the left and right in anticipation works well in the street. The 2 dogs and the pigeons scenes suggest you're somewhat reluctant to kneel or bring the camera down low. I like the barking picture better than the look-bicycles picture. 😊
It's always interesting seeing someone else working the same streets but getting different results. You were in Neal Street, and you missed the guy being kissed by the woman in the Mango poster @ 4'55". We all see different things when we're out and about, and perhaps that's not the kind of shot you'd go for. But you did get some nice ones. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Personally, I find busy places harder and less enjoyable to shoot than quieter places. Too many people in a scene often ruin a photo IMO.
Hi Mike, enjoyed your video, I was out myself this afternoon, but rather than London I was in Mold in North Wales, only a few people and no stores, just little shops. It would be interesting to see how you or Roman Fox would handle a similar place.
My favorite was your black and white shop window with the two people. 2nd was the guy you took the portrait.
I enjoyed those as well tbf - thanks!
Nothing what you did or said sounds strange to me 😂.
Stay or walk hehe.
It is all in the game of good Street Photography
OMG you even have the same strap 🎉
Talking to people has often nice results in taking a good shot afterwards.
Nice shots among the average.
Love this kind of videos.
Thanks for sharing
Very much enjoyed this. Interested to see how much you are willing to crop - I feel licensed to do the same now! If you went to a 28mm would you keep the 35mm or just choose one for the day? Thanks again..
Glad you liked it - now I’m on the m body I don’t mind collecting the lenses haha. I do love 35mm so adding 28mm would be a great touch
Great video 👍🏽
Thank you! 👍
so if we have the money. would we be a better photographer, taking chances on shots if we took a bodyguard along?
Enjoyed your street photo walk and insight.. what is the camera bag you are using
Thank you! Bellroy 9L sling
the old lad with the stoney jacket haha aw
Thanks for showing the whole day. It's interesting to hear your comments on the "rejected" photos, too. Do you keep your live view on most of the time? Do you use the Viewfinder or LCD more on an average walk?
I noticed you use live view a lot do you prefer it over the rangefinder on the m11-p ? Interested in your thoughts
Hi, what camera strap do you use with your Leica?
I think it's important to be honest about the proces, and you really are, nice - it's work, work, work
glad you like the video! Being truthful is one of the most important parts of life right? haha
Hi Mike.
My first thought as this began was, "Oh dear. Obvious location doing obvious shots."
However, the picture of the man on the bike with the flowers caught my attention. The reason being that the late, great, Elliot Erwitt, would of taken a picture like this. So, a round of applause for you. Enjoy the rest of your week.
Hi Mike. What kind of bag do you use? Thx
I shoot my M10 in high contrast monochrome as well. Not sure why. It’s in raw so if I need the color file then I have it. But something about the monochrome is pretty amazing.
do you sell them as editorial, i only ask as you don't seem to have model releases shown in the video. Great work btw
Nope. These don’t get sold for anyone else to use. Thank you!
0:14 seconds in and randomly see Princess Julia in a window sitting on a bed haha!
Easy subscribe mate, nice one
Really appreciated
9:39 “Leica mentioned earlier…” - nice plug for your camera. Cheers! :-)
Hahaha
i enjoyed the walk and talk through... maybe you would be up for a collab, me as a very new basic street tog and you as a more experienced show folk how to see and what i miss?
I think there were some more nice shots at around:
4:40 (lots of genuine smiles and laughs)
4:58 the poster is a good place for fishing (someone kissing/meeting)
5:45 five guys place unfortunately there wasn’t a 5 guys group, that would have been lowkey funny
6:49 you got that, cute! maybe I would have played with pidgeons too (force them to fly in front of them)
etc etc
Love this kind of photowalk content, it’s fun to see your process and see what shot I would have taken! Thanks!
hi dear Mike,
i'm completely new to photography,
i have a question, the photos you posted or showed thru the videos, are they after postproduction ?
or are they Camera raw files ?
btw your videos are inspiring !
Subscribed !! ✌
What Leica were you using. It’s not a Q2 which you listed, a camera I’m very familiar with. Just curious.
Love the video. But how can you make your leica m11p shoot monochrom photo? just curious as a non-leica owner
It’s just the jpeg preview and live view. The raw file retains all the colour information. But when you preview the image on the screen and live view it’s monochrome.
really cool video. i also love your bag, what’s the reference of it please?
I find walking around, looking for photographs very draining. It takes some serious patience to keep going. And I still do, everyday day!:-)
Anyone know the bag the he used in the beginning for the camera
I am glad to know I am not the only one torn between keeping it moving and hanging out in one spot. I have found that just trusting your gut/ intuition and following the flow normally works out.
How do you strap your go pro? Dumb question!
Are you still loving the m11? Have you had a lot of freezes?
Hello friends, many successes, greetings from Argentina.
