Hey just wanted to say since this video is still popping off that some of the things I've said here I've changed my mind about quite a bit. Malenia would now make it to the amazing tier, though near the bottom of it. Hoarah Loux/Godfrey is my favorite boss now. Mohg would also make a solid amazing tier fight for me. I'd also put Rykard in great tier, and Astel in good. Other than that I am based and everything I say is real and true until I change my mind
@issi529 I agree, he was one of the more annoying bosses if you're a melee build. His aoe destroys your health, or he rolls over and crushes you. I lost track of how many times i died. My 2nd playthrough tho I was full on sorcery and I beat him my 3rd or 4th attempt. (But sorcery is op)
@Sérgio Sérgio because even though he was born with a curse and largely imprisoned by the Greater Will, he still makes it his mission to protect the Erdtree, fighting your character potentially three times. He’s also the only one who didn’t go to war with his siblings in a desperate grab for power. People say Ranni is the nicest, but really I think it’s Morgott (Ranni not only indirectly started the war but also assassinated a Demigod and started the Black Knives, which ultimately killed Blaidd and Iji,) she isn’t very honorable
@@loganc751 she only hired the black knives to kill her empyrean body but another demigod needed to be sacrificed for things to go according to plan. Morgott might love what hates him but he is a blind fool to the golden order and tbe greater will. Ranni is actively trying to give free will to the world and make this immortality and elitist demigods bs stop. She may have done some questionable things but her goal is of utmost importance.
@@vagoslordofcinder7861 did she only hire them? because the only reason they were able to kill a demigod is because of the black knife which she created, which leads me to believe that she created them.
Margit/Morgott isn't just a great boss fight, every line he spits is just the rawest shit the writers could come up with. He's so fucking cool I wish he wasn't dressed in literal trash and had a costume like his brother. Something to match his iridescent sword.
I can understand that, but the humble garb added to Morgott for me. He felt like a humble man who only bore a shard of the Elden Ring and became Lord of Leyndell purely out of necessity. It also serves as a contrast to his power-hungry brother.
Morgott has the best drip in the lands between you fool, would u prefer him to look like a tarnished, emboldened by the flame of ambition. Have it writ upon thy meagre grave, felled by king morgott, last of the drip lords
I've heard a theory that Malenia's fight was actually the scrapped Lady Tomoe boss fight from the Sekiro dlc that never happened. It kinda makes sense. If she was meant to be a Sekiro boss then a lot of her attacks would be WAY more manageable since you could just deflect them.
I've said repeatedly that she is a Sekiro boss in a Souls game lol. She would've been an amazing fight in Sekiro. it's just too overkill for a souls game. Honestly if she didn't heal, I'd probably wouldn't call the fight bullshit. That spam attack is straight out of Sekiro though
I don't think in her current form she would be very reasonable in Sekiro, either, though... there is no "tell" for each individual hit within the flurry combo itself, most of the hits are just represented by a giant AoE group of slash marks around her. Of course, that could've been changed, though. Honestly, I don't think the boss would be as ridiculous if they just scaled down (or reduced the tracking ability of) the flurry attack. Every other attack she has is extremely predictable and easy to counter in some way. Not to mention how easy it is to stagger her. It's just unfortunate that she has this innate RNG sort of embedded into her fight, if you take a swing at her during her attack recovery there is a chance she will begin her flurry combo. And if she does that, there is a very high chance you won't be able to sprint away in time.
Morgott had potential to blow all the other bosses out of the water. His only issue is he doesn't have enough health. If you thoroughly play through the game before going to the capital, you end up stomping him before the fight has really begun. For a boss guarding the erdtree and lord of the capital he deserved more respect from players, forcing them to get good and learn his moves. I'm glad I went directly there after Rennala and fought him around lvl 50. Most others I've watched are over lvl 100 by the time they get to the capital and his second phase would last like 15 seconds. He is so well designed and his OST is a banger and a half. He deserved better.
I agree, I too try to go there as early as possible so he won't be a pushover. Only problem is that Draconic Sentinel is guarding the entrance and he's an agony at lower levels. I'd be fine if Morgott had twice the amount of health he currently has.
Agreed, I was expecting a phase 2 on him when I saw how quickly I was killing him. Then he died and I just kinda went "damn, that looked cool, wish I coulda fought him a bit..." lmao
I enjoy the open world aspect, but it does make it way too easy to accidentally overlevel and trivialize content if you do things out of order or explore too much. Personally, I would prefer a return to a more linear design.
@@derrickcrowe3888 I'm in the exact same boat. It was amazing as a once off but I don't think they know how to balance it or keep things consistently challenging or fun in this format. Only problem is they've tasted the sales revenue now so going back is gonna be a hard sell when most casual and new ER players came for the open world, not the action the games are known for.
If you're already annoyed of astel, naturalborn of the void, have you met his cousin astel, stars of darkness. THE VARIATION OF IT WITH A SHADOW CLONE GRAB
I'm a little upset that by the time I reached Morgott I was way overleveled as I had been exploring so much and got sidetracked. I had missed most of the cool moves he was showing as every hit of mine was taking off like ~1/8 of his health. Guess I gotta wait for NG+, but now I'm excited to redo him.
Fought him for the first time the other day. Suffice to say he is one of my favourite bosses I’ve ever fought in any game. The spectacle of his move set, especially the huge lightning spear, left me speechless.
Radahn has the best spectacle, the coolest hype, the best concept I’ve ever seen in their fights. Summoning all your bros to take down this huge badass? It’s incredible. Unfortunately, I completely hate actually fighting the dude. I get why so many people like him, I just don’t find the moveset itself fun to deal with.
yeah same, it’s a shame since visually he’s probably my favourite in the game but to me at least every part of his gameplay represents what i dislike about soulslike bosses
Considering how mainstream Elden Ring is I failed to consider that there might be viewers who haven't played the other Souls games and thus will be confused by my many references and comparisons to past Fromsoft bosses. I hope it's not a bother, I don't intend to gatekeep I just didn't really think about it until now
Nah man no bother, but now we need the legacy dungeons rank list, Im curious on youre opinions of Volcano Manor and Lord of The Rings tree city (Malenia area) and of course Leyndell
@@anonymousperson8903 I didn't think he needed a nerf honestly, maybe tone down oneshots but thats about it. Think they should nerf malenia instead. I did do the fight again after nerf and didn't feel a big difference though
@@magicat7356 It probably depends how you fight him. They greatly nerfed his hitbox radius', decently nerfed his damage (greatly on some attacks), made his meteors in final phase slower and easier to dodge...
@@magicat7356 Honestly his tendency to one shot, or combo lock kill, even super high vigour characters is my biggest gripe with Radahan, (fought him pre-patch, haven't gone back for a go since, need to get around to it). I could get second phase even without summons fairly readily, but getting the kill was just super frustrating from there. My personal favourite though is probably Renalla. Great spectacle and felt perfectly balanced for the game stage i encountered her at. She's not perfect nor the peak of difficulty, but she's really damm good.
I'm so glad Morgott placed #1 He's the only boss that had me smiling constantly throughout it. It legit made me feel like I was playing Bloodborne again.
I love the subtle theme of sacrifice in these boss fights. The phase 2's usual consist of the boss giving up a part of them, emotionally or literally, and gaining power.
Finally, someone that give Morgott the credit he deserve, the fight was beautiful, his moveset are cool and the sad story behind his willingness to give his all while receive nothing back
Astel is one of the coolest bosses fromsoftware has made it might not be the most challenging and mechanically intensive boss but the design and arena is stunning
for me, maliketh is easily the number 1. you got the beast clergyman who recognizes you after giving him the deathroots, knowing something was up with him and there was more to be known. then the cinematic for the second phase kicks in and you realize i'ts not only the boss from the trailer that you were wondering when you were going to fight, but also he is freaking maliketh, talked about in countless items you find in your travels. and his move set is just perfection. so much fun, i absolutely loved that boss fight.
You just summed up my first playthrough experience of the boss... well, almost, I didn't manage to collect all the deathroots, but it was still the same experience of "Oh shit, its Gurranq!" and then in phase 2 he just turns into the coolest looking design in the entire game and the flashiest moveset too. Definitely my top1 in the game aswell
I liked Rykard. Something about big giant monsters just feel so awesome to look at. The arena and atmosphere was amazing. Maliketh was also dope, along with Fortissax and Placidusax
Doesn't really make sense that he's back at the Sanctum after the fight like nothing happened though. Or that killing him at the sanctum earlier doesn't change the fight at all. Disappointing tbh
@@duewest9801 I think it’s because time is possibly distorted in Farum Azula. The cutscene before Placidusax shows all the buildings and structures returning to how they once were
Morgott's moveset is amazing! My only dislike is how weird his difficulty is, unfortunately, as the gatekeeper of the final areas, I felt like I needed to explore and do everything else (including all other major bosses) before fighting him... Which made it a lot easier than I thought he'd be, just bcs of how tanky I was.
Maliketh, out of all the games I’ve played, has the coolest weapon, attacks, voice and is one of the coolest characters I’ve seen. My favorite thing about him is the fact that when he shoots the projectile at you, he stays in the air because he uses the force of the attack and spins mid air to propel him back into the air
Here is my opinion on the final boss: amazing fight I absolutely love radagon and elden beast but there is one problem with the boss, it doesn’t fit as a two parter boss. I feel that radagon should’ve been his own boss coupled with queen marika in the second phase or something and then once you beat them there is a grace and everything and you can activate the elden beast boss who also has its own second phase etc
Honestly I wish the Elden Beast never happened and Radagon was just made way harder and turned into the true final boss. Elden Beast looked incredible, but other than that was quite disappointing for me.
@@levicoles7832 I think they should’ve been two seperate bosses. Each one elaborated on more, radagon second phase could be queen marika, elden beast second phase can be god knows what. They’re trying to keep the trend of Spectacle fight then Epic humanoid fight for the final bosses like with bloodborne sekiro and ds3 ringed city dlc
@@therulerofeverything1462 Yeah that's true, now that I think about it, I wouldn’t mind it so much if Elden Beast was separate, and was given more time into
for me, astel was the "I don't want to beat this boss" moment. just the spectacle was amazing, also, got in at low vitality, running glass cannon build, so he was actually decently difficult, and could one shot me.
The problem with this boss is that is oart of Ranni's questline, and not only is her questline the most convoluted, but it also a late mission soo its likely you will be OP by the time you face Astel, honestly though it looks amazing, I expected more of the boss by the look of it in the trailers
@@justanotherblackwhitemicke7817 yeah, I do think that's what holds Astel back. especially because you have to beat radahn to even get to him, which is a very high bar for entry at lower levels.
@@jackhughes308 yeah his face takes more dmg and it's easier to dodge his attacks. Only attack i just have a hard time dodging is his teleport grab. ( Which usually one shots me back then )
I love how u described the spectacle bosses, while not mechanically exciting just the feeling of fighting them, the arena, the music, and the cinematic of it is really beautiful and a joy to experience
Rennala was definitely my favorite boss, in a game full of incredible boss fights! Here’s the thing: FromSoft has struggled to do a proper magic-based boss fight for years, and the closest they’ve come is ds3’s crystal sage which was mediocre at best (and don’t even get me started on bosses like Moonlight Butterfly or Pinwheel). First off, there’s the run up. Raya Lucaria is one of my favorite legacy dungeons in the game, both in terms of visual and mechanic design. Walking through this former center of learning, now fallen into ruin is so atmospheric! After defeating several magic based mini-bosses over the course of this huge dungeon, you know something big is coming at the end, and boy does the game deliver. Rennala, both mechanically and visually, has so much love poured into her that it’s insane. A few people find phase one boring, but it does a good job of creating an interesting mob fight (another thing FromSoft has tried before and failed at). It’s a puzzle where you need to balance positioning and speed or risk taking massive damage. This really kept me engaged, and is a nice change of pace from most bosses which boil down to dodge, strike, repeat. From an atmosphere perspective, phase 1 really stands out as well, both visually and sonically. Then we get to phase 2 and goddamn. I think phase 1 is great for what it is, but phase 2 is really what puts it up there with best bosses in the series imo. Rennalas constant movement and her HUGE pool of spells really keep you on your toes. Closing the distance is the name of the game here and she makes it tough to land more than a couple hits. However the fight is designed fairly, and openings are consistent, without any shenanigans that bosses pull later in the game when it comes to combo-canceling, inconsistent punishes, or unfair rollcatches. Of course the arena, the music and the visual design of her spells are just a treat to watch. The ash summons are a nice touch, increasing the difficulty and driving home how powerful Rennala really is. The time limit and Rennala’s slight passivity during the summons makes it so that they don’t feel unbalanced like other ganks in the game. Many find this boss easy, but not me for some reason. Maybe it’s because I specced partly into magic which doesn’t have much effect on her. Maybe it’s cause I’m a fairly defensive combatant. I died to her a LOT. Way more than bosses later in the game. It always felt fair when I died though, and I could always trace my death back to a mistake I made (in contrast with a boss like Malenia or Malekith for example which half the time felt like the game just said ‘fuck you’). To be fair, I ended up shredding bosses like morgott and fortissax with my magic later on, and it’s so interesting how much your build can influence bosses! This is probably a big reason I rank her highly, while to more melee-focused builds, she’s an afterthought. If I ranked bosses on presentation alone, Rennala would easily be number one, up there with placidusax. As it stands, because of her presentation, innovative design, huge success at capturing an enemy archetype that FromSoft has struggled with, and hard but fair difficulty, I think I can make a solid argument for putting her in the top 5 if not the top 3. I apologize for accidentally writing an essay. If you read this far, thank you! and I want to have a threesome with you and Rennala ;)
I love slamming the weapon we have into him! The L2, or LT skill on it and having it take so much damage away from him is amazing. And he is so huge! Idk, in terms of ranking I'd put Rykard, maybe morgott, then maybe maliketh. I love the red residue from his attacks, they look so sick.
Rykard is easily the bed of chaos of elden ring. The boss is horribly designed and it makes me think that fromsoft was fucking trolling when they made him. The camera barely works, the poison move is inconsistent, his ground slam is only counterable by a shield which is just such a dumb idea, and his attack when he spams the skulls is downright cancerous.
Malenia and Godfrey are my favorite bosses in the game, and I can't quite choose which I like more like the satisfaction I got from beating Malenia is unrivaled in any Fromsoftware game, but Godfrey had me pumped the entire fight like during his cutscenes my jaw was dropped the entire time I love him so much and his wrestler move set is so much fun
agreed with Malenia. Her flurry attacks took awhile to figure out, but when you can deal with it consistently and beat it her, it feels nice. I think people complain about the attack because it's very hard to deal with if you dont have spacing or don't use a shield. But the fight itself as a whole, is really good.
Godfrey would be a top five boss for me if his recoveries were consistent. Sometimes he'll end a combo halfway through and other times you'll get rocked for attacking
@@jamvng Main issue is that she forces you to use something else from what you have been using for they entire game, i just used a greatsword and rolled through all attacks. And she forces me to go ranged, shield or use the bloodhound ashes of war, cause a close range its close to impossible to get through that attack without damage. And thats to be honest pretty bad boss design. And its such a shame, i love all her other attacks. The flurry attack just needs a 2 sec longer charge up time, for normal melee builds to be able to run away for the first strike.
For me, Radahn is my new number one, finally surpassing Gael after all these years. This game is chock full of fantastic bosses though, Morgott, Godrick, Mohg, Maliketh, Malenia, Placidusax, etc. Some have said the boss quality of this game is low (I assume they mean main story bosses) and I can't help but disagree. The only main boss I truly consider bad is Godskin Duo, the rest go from good to contenders for the best bosses in the series. Also supposedly Maliketh got his speed toned down a bit in the recent patch so you may have gotten your wish. By the way, I do adore Morgott, but it is absolutely hilarious to me that his "genius" secret identity was naming himself Margit and making his sword into a stick. Then again, my jaw was still on the floor with the reveal so hey.
He uses the name Margit because literally no one knows what the king of Leyndell looks like, and probably no one will believe that the king of the capital is actually an omen.
I think Mohg was my favorite in the game. From the first time you enter Nokron, you can see the pantheon on top of the cliff and you already know that's going to be a boss. The buildup of nearing it as you traverse the upper levels of the city, until you finally reach manage to reach it through the Haligtree path. Very rarely do you actually encounter true evil in these sorts of games. But having Mohg pretty much rape his brother in order to create an army to invade the lands between falls into that category. The buildup at the start as he addresses you, his visual design looking like a great demon king, the music slowly increasing as you walk towards each other at the beginning until he just starts tearing into rifts of formless gods and using their blood as weapons. The ominous counting in latin as you whittle him down. TLDR: I like Mohg
I remember getting to the base of the endtree for the first time and being like who could this boss possibly be, when I walked through and saw Morgott, it was definitely an Oh Shit moment since I thought I killed him in the beginning and instantly filled me with determination as in that moment it felt like he was my arch nemesis, I’ll never forget that feeling in my first playthrough
He attacked me a second time randomly outside the capital on a battlefield and dropped a stamina talisman. By the time I fought him the third time he was done in one try.
Absolutely loved the Radahn fight, so much fun and the whole lore behind it was fantastic. Elden ring has got to be the best fromsoft games they have ever made, definitely got to be my game of the year. P.S You forgot about the soldier of godrick boss fight and how powerful, emotional and the significance of the whole fight easily the best fight in the whole game. Great content my man keep it up ❤
@@sleddinggybe142 Its not? There is nothing considered unanimously as the best boss n' shit. Yes the likes of morgott, malenia, maliketh, placidusax and radahn are popular but the only thing unanimously agreed is that malenia is the hardest and the duo is the worst.
@@ivanchaki372 Name me a boss in this game that gets as much love from the community as morgott with minimal amounts of hate. The only boss I can think of in this position is mohg
Radagon to me is probably the best boss in the entire series, I havent had THIS much fun fighting a boss since slave knight gael, hes so much fun to learn and conquer, his soundtrack, arena, moveset etc, simply a S-tier boss Also some of my other favorites are maliketh, mohg, and definitely godfrey (I liked hoarah loux more ngl)
When Radhan puts his horse in the sand is to protect it from incoming attacks, but when the horse comes out it is because the horse wants to help Radhan. It is just so sweet.
I disagree with how low Astel is. Don't know what was different from my playthrough to yours but I actually found the grab really easy to dodge compared to some other attacks. It's more like his triple AoE that I found the hardest. And him compared to the enemies I think it's a little hard to tell its the same species unless you look really closely and even when you do the boss looks a good bit different. Only hate I have with it is how it teleports around the room but that's not really uncommon in this game.
@C U Next Tuesday Nope, I'm a pure STR build and although I died about 20 times on Astel, I destroyed it when I finally got it. Every attack is telegraphed. Surprise surprise, it's about trial and error and learning the fight. The fight is anything but BS. If I had to say there is one move that I am not a big fan of, it's the meteorite summon because sometimes it feels like RNG if it hits or not but even that, as long as I understand it's coming in time, have some distance from the boss and run parallel to it, it misses 90% of the time.
Agreed with Morgott, he is my favorite because he remember Soul of Cinder, but more harder, I 1v1 him without summon and he become so much fun, Morgott also his theme is the best,Morgott, Mohg and Maliketh are my favorites.
i love how you have positive things to say about even your "worst" picks lmao, it's a breath of fresh air. personally, godskin duo had me malding 100% agree with morgott and your top picks in general. it's also nice to see more people appreciating radahn (as upset as i am that they nerfed him into the ground, smh) after the amount of salt i've seen elsewhere haha
Love how you consider the music. Some bosses in previous games like Sir Alonne and Midir (which are great fights anyway) gain a lot of point for me if their theme is great. Overall great ranking, ive always loved your content. I hope to see more in the future on elden ring.
For me its Dragonlord Placidusax. The whole Arena, the boss itself, just everything and to think that this is a secret and really easy to miss boss, is even more amazing
I disagree about astel. Fighting him is a waiting game but so is midir and O&S. I found his grab to be quite easy to dodge by rolling into him. I fought him on a pretty low level too so he was challanging but also I was half-mage so I could deal some damage while he's doing his aoe attacks. And the design is awesome as is the fact that you're in the absolute deepest part of this world and you are in the middle of discovering one of the most ancient secrets Also I was so mad when I beat Morgott on my first try. I got really lucky and didn't even had time to learn his moveset but he seemed so cool. I later trued to help other players with him but it wasn't the same...
Honestly, Dragonlord Placidusax has to be my favorite boss in Elden Ring followed by Maliketh and Godfrey. They all are both amazing setpiece fights but also challenging.
I feel like Placidusax loses some points because of his lore. His presentation is admirable, a severely wounded, ancient and powerful being that is trying to heal out of time, but because it is transcribed so well in the fight, the fight itself loses a lot of rythm because he has these instances where he just swipes an arm, breathes a bit of fire and then oddly waddles around while you strike him for 4-6 consecutive hits, and I did that with the slow ass giant mace. It's a bit of a bummer for me because he can absolutely turn up the heat when he wants to, but the flow of the fight is no where near consistent.
I more or less agree with the relative placements on this list, except for Astel, who I found to be very enjoyable and fair. I wish Malenia's flurry had a longer windup so it didn't feel like the game was punishing you with a potential one-shot for playing aggressive whilst simultaneously rewarding you for playing aggressively since she can be staggered quite easily. Personally, I think every boss in this game was very good except for Godskin noble, fuck that guy. Comparing to previous souls games, I definitely think Elden Ring has the highest and most consistent quality on average.
Godskin noble was a cakewalk for me compared to Malenia. I tried beating her for 7 hrs today and I'm level 142 faith build. I've tried ever single cheese method out rn and summoned people and she always gets me at the end of her second phase with her rot attack, guess I just suck ;/
@@NoonMan godskin noble was easy but I think his design was bad, between the roll attack, the blackfire circle, and the belly attack I feel like he had a lot of stuff that just wasn’t fun or well designed. Keep trying on Malenia man, I used a summon because my strength build with the lord sworn great sword just wasn’t cutting it
Malenia is an abysmally easy boss. After hearing all the struggle people went through fighting her, I expected to suffer. I killed her at lvl ~100 on the first try without even getting hit, and i'm no savant at the game. Basically every swing from any weapon just staggers her, so she just stands there and dies without doing much in return because she's stunlocked. For the undefeated blademistress demigod second strongest Empryean in the world, I expected a lot more from her.
I disagree with Radagon/ Elden Beast and Godskin Duo, Radagon wasn't bad but Elden Beast was so annoying and tedious because he has way too much health to be running away as often as he does. Godskin Duo felt more like praying that the stars would align and that you would get lucky enough to win. I also think that Malenia is underrated because I had so much fun with that boss and every bit of damage I dealt to her felt like like a mini victory, though it was annoying that the only way to win is hope she doesn't do the instant kill attack.
Yeah the elden beast boss fight felt like a glorified game of chase. The Elden beast would've been much better if we were able to use Torrent to close the distance quickly instead of running towards it and hoping to god that it stays put.
I'm one of the wierdos that enjoyed the duo gargoyle fight. If you kite them somewhat well they fight similar to demon in pain and demon from below. One will hit with poison gas in a line attack from a distance while the other goes in for melee. They swap positions every now and then. If you don't kite them they tend to just wail on you so it's better to play a little patiently. It's also nice the second one comes in at 50% HP of the first one, giving you time to learn the moveset of the first. Of all the crappy dark souls 2 style gank fights in the game the gargoyles at least try to be fair-ish. So much better then two crucible knights constantly rushing you down.
yea I can agree with this kinda, I definitely think godskin duo is one of the worst fights From has ever created (Its in the same tier of fun as prowling magus imo). And while I hate most if not all the gank fights in this game I hate gargoyles the least. I would still consider them a horrible tier boss tho and one I have no intention of ever repeating
I actually quite liked the gargoyles too. Its VERY easy to get 2-3 greatsword hits in for me when the first gargoyle attacks if you hug close to the legs. Most of their attacks are also easy to dodge which makes the fight about the same level of fun as first phase of the twin demons in ds3, but a bit tougher. Phase 2 was tough and intense, but only felt unfair when the other gargoyle used the twinblade. The idea of a duo boss where each boss has two unique weapons that they switch between is very interesting.
I actually like Godskin Duo. It seems many players haven't realised the strategy should be to only kill the Apostle and never damage the Noble so much that he goes into phase 2.
@@dynamicflashy I don't find them particularly hard I just find the design of putting 2 1v1 bosses together in a room and calling it a new boss to be offensive
Mohg is my favorite boss, I really liked the whole area he's in. (Forgot the name) I also really like his move set and his soundtrack is absolutely amazing. Him yelling "NIHIL" before every strike during his transformation gives me chills every time. I also prefer how he goes into 2nd stage mid fight rather than through a cutscene, it's something that not many bosses do in this game and it really makes him stand out become of it
I LOVE Radahn, charging into battle against a huge boss with an army of summons is absolutely unmatched in souls, makes you feel truly tiny, and the atmosphere of it all is superb from the festival to the battlefield
My personal favorite has to be Rykard. Not only is he cinematic as hell and disgusting in all of the right ways, but every single voice line he says is amazing. Rykard easily has some of the best voice acting I’ve ever heard in anything.
I really like what you said about Malenia looking like a beautiful painting. I beat her today and i can safely say that she’s my favorite boss in the series. Idk something about her fast attacks in the first phase got me so hyped i was truly mesmerized in her attack patterns.
Radagon has a move where he deflects spells and it looks awesome. He just swipes the spell away with his hand and it always felt very imposing. Dude is so far above me he just brushes off my magic effortlessly.
Malenia is easily my favorite boss of all time. She is what the nameless king was to DS3 on steroids, a secret boss that dwarfs all other challenges the game has to offer. Yet I never thought she was unfair and learning her moveset and parry timing feels so satisfying. I like that the most difficult boss is the easiest one to stagger, it makes it feel like two regular warriors on a level playing field fighting it out. Sure Waterfowl dance and her mirror image attack in phase two are INSANE but they just spike the adrenaline every time they happen and can constistently be survived if you know what youre doing.
THANK YOU. I see so many comments saying she needs to be nerfed and that it's literally impossible to dodge Waterfowl without the Bloodhound Step, but it's just about getting the timing. I never had a problem rolling through Waterfowl Dance after about 5 attempts, and even the 2nd phase version with the clones isn't impossible to dodge. She's incredibly difficult and you gotta be almost perfect, but it's still very fair and doable
Im of the opinion that radagon should have been a straight-up brawl and Elden beast should have allowed for horseback combat, it would tie the game together in a nice bow considering torrent is a central part of the game and your companion throughout it all and it would alleviate the irritation of chasing the elden beast
I felt the exact same way about Morgott. I finished the fight and thought “this is a more complex move set Gael” and it immediately shot to my #1 FromSoft boss and cemented Elden Ring as the best game I have ever played. Melania has since taken his #1 spot but I don’t disagree with him getting the #1 and think he is a perfect fight.
I totally agree that leyndell is the new best fromsoft area, this game in general has allowed them to go a lot further with the castle and big city levels since A) you can jump B) the map is open and you can actually go everywhere that you see.
As perfect as this game is, I think some of the later bosses really need to be tweaked to have more openings to avoid their powerful attacks. Malenia's Waterfowl Dance (flurry), Mohg's curse that still damages you even if you use the physik to protect you, and most of all Elden Beast's stupid fucking heat seeking missile that gave me an actual physical headache. That being said Morgott, Radahn, Placidusax, and Maliketh (though I do think Maliketh's damage needs to be slightly nerfed) are all fucking amazing among others
The problem is they designed those bosses to fight them with ashes, and I don't think they properly tested how the fights would look if you decide not to use them. They are often just not fun to fight and thats a problem because if you summon ashes they become too easy (except Malenia). The balance is definetely the biggest problem of this game, fortunately this is one of the few problems of this masterpiece

I hate that boss so much tbh, he alone was super cool but his knights ruin that fight imo. If that fight was just him then he would be awesome but the fact that they threw the 2 most annoying enemies in the game in his arena was super lame
@@chrisjohlfs8219 those enemies aren’t even the crazy super teleporting versions throughout the castle though. They aren’t even hard. Used to agree with you on malenia, but wow have my opinions shifted. Shes now possibly my favorite boss. If you've seen the movie whiplash, learning her really felt just like that.
@magicat7356 I think most people feel that way. After beating her around three times, it just clicked and felt incredible fighting. She's precise and deadly, yet very fair. And her life steal helps keep shields and summons from bodying her. Fantastic fight, just takes a while to realize it
@@reachcole514 get good nah jk , it is the hardest move to learn to dodge consistently but it is very possible, just extremely hard for the average player
I recently just beat Elden Ring, and god I love Radagon and Elden Beast. At first I hated it but got used to the moveset, and eventually I could get Radagon to half health without taking a hit/taking one hit. Elden Beast is an absolutely beautiful and amazing boss fight, my only gripe is that sometimes he can throw multiple attacks at you at once, but other than that it's doable. I used a Godslayer GS and Flame Grant Me Strength to beat him. Most satisfying kill I've ever made in a game.
Idk if this will be a popular opinion but I thought Fortissax was one of the coolest fights in the series...until I found Placidusax, my favorite fight
i fought fortissax for the first time in ng plus today cause i missed him in my first playthrough, and the presentation was amazing but i wasnt in love with his moveset. also it was wierd, it took me like 5 tries and each try he was always 1 shot away from dying and i just kept getting cheesed, maybe thats why i had a bit of distain for him.
Malenia would be so much better if she dropped the flurry attack and healing. Especially the healing, it just feels tacked on for the sake of being hard when it really is just frustrating and tedious
Hard disagree on healing, if you’re seeing that healing is an issue than you’re either getting hit too much or you need to level up more to cater to your lack of skill
Horah Loux was by far my favorite fight in the whole game. In part, it was because Maliketh made me furious and was so tilted and annoyed because of the amount of times I died from DoT anime backflips, I was furious stepping into the Godfrey boss fight. Then this dude out of nowhere addresses me politely, assuring me that the Elden Ring is close at hand, and then proceeds to fight me man to man. No bullshit status effects or uninteractible backflips, just a man and his axe giving his all. Even when he kills his own advisor/mentor, Sarrosh, he still has the decency to state that he’d been courteous to me up to this point and is now going to give his all against me. I was so sad when I finally beat him. He was a fine warrior, and I bet a good Elden Lord. I lowkey so wish there was an option to say “You know what, you won it fair and square. Go ahead and take your throne m8.”
Honestly malenia is a great boss only when you have bloodhound’s step or a shield for waterfoul dance but sadly I feel like needing an item\ash war makes it a bad boss
Yeah, kinda like when my friends suggested me that "blood infused fast weapons with high arcane scaling" are good counters and I am sitting there with my strenght-intelligence build and Royal Greatsword +10... I know respec is a thing but damn, what's the point of creating a character if I'll have to change It to fight just One boss??
@@endertuber8300 I did it with the moonlight greatsword yesterday without summoning. Its stupid hard, but possible. Waterfowl dance is still some BS though, and to beat her I just had to accept that I would eat the first part and get good enough at the rest of the fight that it didn't matter.
For sure, If being forced to use an optional item you have to go out of your way to find (unlike the serpent spear and Stormruler) or cheesing the fight is legit a viable way to win (by that I mean people would rather cheese it) the design is shit.
I appreciate content creators who also reviews/appreciate the music. For me, music is a big part of the presentation for any game, especially in boss fights. I’m not really a musical person, but music makes or breaks the game for me. Sometimes the music can save a shitty fight or lessen the damage dealt by the gameplay (looking at godskin duo). In conclusion, Mohg, Lord of Blood is the number 1 boss fight for me as you might’ve guessed it: fun gameplay and 2 absolute banger music
My favorite boss from the 1 playthrough i did would have to be Godrick, but honestly a big reason why is that i was too strong for later bosses bc i had explored a lot and amassed levels and a well upgraded sword.
The boss design in Elden Ring in general is off the charts. Nearly every major fight made me go "holy crap" at some point. My personal favourite is Malenia.
Malenia was my favourite by far and for sure one of the best bosses I've ever battled. The fight was just beautiful in every aspect, it was hard as fuck so I got to enjoy it for several hours and the feeling of accomplishment from finally beating her was the best I ever felt in any video game.
I personally rank the Fire Giant pretty high. Not for difficulty, considering I beat him first try, but for spectacle and overall design. He was just a really cool boss to me.
@@TheGamerThing I knew I could use the horse but it seemed like more of a hindrance than help so I didn’t use it except to get close at the start. I needed my I frames for dodging.
I really hope they fixed placidusax in the last patch. I fought him in my first playthrough and everything was going well until phase 2 when he glitched out and froze in place. It felt cheap killing him in that state but at least theres NG+
Personally, Dragon Lord Placidusax was easily the best fight to me. The cutscene leading up to the fight, the soundtrack, and just the overall spectacle. THE ARENA? one of the coolest arenas i have ever scene and the cutscene where time reverses is so cool. my jaw was dropped the entire fight and I didn't want it to end. I got chills when the finale of the fight hit and he does his laserbeams. Truly one of the greatest fight of all time.
IMO Malenia has the best visual design of this game but the fact that she recovers her health is what makes her not being a completely awesome boss. the feeling of losing your progress is never satisfying to anyone. and the dance attack makes it worse by healing herself almost completely if she doesnt ends up killing you, the only way to completely dodge it is by hoping you stay out of range, which most of the time is not the case with a melee build. Even if you block her attacks with a shield she keeps healing,, like come on man.... Nice idea but bad execution and i agree on Morgott.
Margit is perfect, he sets the tone for the game early by teaching players to be patient and strategic and immediately cuts off any habit of being greedy or hacking and slashing.
I do think that Morgott is a great boss, but my favorite boss may go to Godfrey or Radagon/Elden Beast. Now hear me out. I know so many people hate the Elden Beast with a burning firey passion, but I honestly had a good time fighting that boss. The glowing orb move is op though, and they should nerf it. But the bosses moves, arena and music are all a marvel. Also its design is great. The moves were (mostly) easy to predict with time, and the running from the boss that plagued so many people was at a minimum for me for a majority of my encounter with it. But as Magicat said, Radagon carries the fight regardless. The epic music, the god that we had been hearing about for the entire game right in front of us (Well, the male version of Marika lol), And the god that caused the fracture and also built the elden ring itself. The boss design is awesome, and it is a great conclusion to the game, facing the very force(s) that you heard about. But even after that, I still think Godfrey is my favorite. I have a weakspot for older generations/legends fighting the upcoming generation, and this guy nails that perfectly. The way he honors you, the power he shows, the challenge he gives you to prepare you for what is still to come, from one elden lord to another. He is great.
Maliketh, Godfrey and Placidusax are without a doubt the most excited I've been with fighting them. I especially love the anticipation building in Maliketh's swings. Completely different from his phase 1, where he can input-read stone shard you mid-swing. It not oneshotting you doesn't make it much less annoying when it happens. Fighting Godfrey and watching the host and second summon die to the stomps while you're jumping over them is also great fun. Placidusax is absolute perfection in terms of spectacle to me. Once you realize that the flame breaths have massive safe-spots, it's hard not to just relax and enjoy beating up an infirm dragrandpa.
I have genuinely no idea how i'd rank the bosses atm. This is my first souls game and I am still on my first play-through, but so far every fight is either a cakewalk or bullshit with very few in between, which I attribute to the difficulty in balancing an open world type game. The game has also gotten easier for me as I've played through it as I went from asking for some help from friends early on to just hunting down bosses, which I guess shows I have adapted, but at the same time while enemies can be bullshit, the tools we have available are also bullshit like bleed, frost, poison, rot, sleep, mimic, magic, etc, so it really is hard to guage anything and at the end of the day everyone's experiences with it will be determined by the order in which they played through fights. To clarify where I am up to: Cleared every boss in Limgrave and Liurnia. halfway done with Caelid, took care of most of the underground, and am starting to clear through the Atlus plateau. (progressed every questline to completion or to where I need to reach certain areas in the plateau or land of the giants to progress further) Already am around level 110 from boss hunting and by the time I get to really late game stuff like Malenia I feel I may be too overleveled. NG+ will hopefully give a slightly more balanced experience for me at least in the earlier NG+s.
Really appreciate how good Margit is as an early mandatory boss. One of those foes designed to be a skill check for new players, but unlike Iudex Gundyr who pretty much discouraged me from getting into Dark Souls 3, Margit comes after you've had a ton of time to explore the world, get a feel for the combat and find enough gear to make a viable build you can feel good about. When I took him down on just the third try or so, successfully reading his attacks and utilizing what tools and advantages my sorcery build provided, I felt like I could take on anything. Rennala later beat down that hubris some and reminded me that gitting gud is a continuous journey, but still, a very encouraging and well done start to the game.
I absolutely love that FromSoft has embraced the delayed swing. They know that people like us are going to do 10-200 playthroughs, so they gotta mix in some baseball change-ups
I remember seeing those on Margit for the first time and all I could think was "FromSoft you clever little shits lmfao". Especially so because one of my biggest bad habits in these games is panic-rolling, so I appreciate it when bosses make it so you HAVE to be precise about your dodges.
Morgott was so hype. Hearing about the king no one saw from Gideon, traversing the most beautiful city. Finally passing through the fog gate to see the unseen king. And what do we find? The first boss in the game. The first person to seriously take the threat of tarnished coming back is the king of the city hosting the erd tree. Then top it with the banger soundtrack start and the background story. Unparalleled.
My only issue is just how damn weak mohg is to bleed. I went in regretting choice to choose a bleed build, and came out without even seeing his second phase.
Yeah i met Melania today for the first time(at the end of my 3rd Playtrough) and i am playing a slow heavy axe. Honestly i gave up after trying her for over an hour without getting her even close to the second phase. There is a line for me when it comes to bosses in souls games(which includes sekiro) and that is when i just can't seem to have any chance of beating her and that i stoped having fun and just got pissed of. I like a certain amount of challenge which is why i love FromSoft Games and Elden Ring is a great game but i just can't stand Malenia. The healing aspect combined with the absurdly hard to dodge flurry just broke me. Maybe it's just that my weapon of choice is too slow for her(since my recovery is so damn long after every swing) and i will MAYBE try her on another playtrough with a different build but i am not sure yet. But anyway great video i was looking forward to it since i first saw your Nioh 2 Boss Ranking(the revised one) and was happy that you made this one a voiced one, too. I like it. It's kinda soothing and chilled(even with the curses ^^). Keep up the good content :)
For Malenia, I wore the Raptors Black Feathers and used the Claw Talisman for a 25% damage boost to jump attacks. You can cancel a lot of her attacks with jump attacks and also get a sweet backstab after about 3 jump heavys. Also Ive found that using frost affinity on heavy weapons can be really helpful, especially if you have any points in INT. Additionally, I had much more success when I started dual wielding heavy weapons in late game.

You betrayed morgott..
Malenia i just cant understand the love for. Fucking despise her and everything about her fight.
Fire Giant Wasn't easy at all. He was very annoying.
Man I still remember how bad I felt about killing Morgott. Love his story. Respect this dude even when he smurfs.
When even Demi-Gods smurf its hilarious. But definitely agree, he feels like such a tragic hero, the lighter, noble half to his brother.
@@stanbrusky85 One of the few noble people in this whole story
The ratty clothes reminds me of some sort of druid or wizard like Merlin, which fits the high fantasy tone of the game.
Morgott has the best drip in the lands between you fool, would u prefer him to look like a tarnished, emboldened by the flame of ambition. Have it writ upon thy meagre grave, felled by king morgott, last of the drip lords
He is the only lord deserving of being a lord, but because of his “curse” he was never one.
His outfit fits him for that reason. It is symbolic.
I totally thought the same thing. Her attacks are meant to deflect each to break posture bar
The way she waltzes away is purely sekiro
I've said repeatedly that she is a Sekiro boss in a Souls game lol. She would've been an amazing fight in Sekiro. it's just too overkill for a souls game. Honestly if she didn't heal, I'd probably wouldn't call the fight bullshit. That spam attack is straight out of Sekiro though
I mean, she does have those attacks where she leaps into the air, and those remimd me of the woriors from fountainhead
Then he died and I just kinda went "damn, that looked cool, wish I coulda fought him a bit..." lmao
yeah Morggot needs more damage some health and his attacks need to inflict more blood loss
Couldn't agree more. I raged so much and kept saying "THEY SHOULD BE, TWO... SEPERATE... BOSSES!!!"

I think Aldrich is a more fun sorcerer type boss, though I guess he has some Melee attacks
In terms of presentation Rykard is one or my favorites. I really live that God Emperor Leto Atreides II vibe he has going on in his second phase.
TOGETHAAAAA
Rykard is easily the bed of chaos of elden ring. The boss is horribly designed and it makes me think that fromsoft was fucking trolling when they made him. The camera barely works, the poison move is inconsistent, his ground slam is only counterable by a shield which is just such a dumb idea, and his attack when he spams the skulls is downright cancerous.
@@bruhmoment2052 I agree but damn do I still love the concept
Godfrey is fantastic when it's just the player with, at the most, their Ash summons. He's unbelievably frustrating when fought in co-op.
The flurry attack just needs a 2 sec longer charge up time, for normal melee builds to be able to run away for the first strike.
i thought he was cool to begin with, then he gave me the batista bomb out of nowhere and immediately knew he was the coolest
@@konstantinkachanovsky2960 I guess he is known as the "veiled monarch" huh? Still pretty funny imo
well, i think you forgot about the fire giant
I just beat Maliketh last night and man if they slowed that dog down...
@@lgkk5028 Eh, I think Fire Giant's pretty mediocre. First phase is pretty fun, second phase is really tedious. Cool spectacle though!
Great content my man keep it up ❤
Morgott’s spot was a surprise, but a welcome one. Def one of my personal favorites gameplay wise
How is it a surprise? it's unanimously considered the best elden ring boss
@@sleddinggybe142 kinda expected magicat to put placidusax or radahn in 1st

@@sleddinggybe142 Its not? There is nothing considered unanimously as the best boss n' shit. Yes the likes of morgott, malenia, maliketh, placidusax and radahn are popular but the only thing unanimously agreed is that malenia is the hardest and the duo is the worst.
@@ivanchaki372 Name me a boss in this game that gets as much love from the community as morgott with minimal amounts of hate. The only boss I can think of in this position is mohg
Radagon to me is probably the best boss in the entire series, I havent had THIS much fun fighting a boss since slave knight gael, hes so much fun to learn and conquer, his soundtrack, arena, moveset etc, simply a S-tier boss
Also some of my other favorites are maliketh, mohg, and definitely godfrey (I liked hoarah loux more ngl)
I really was stunned listening to Fortisax's OST fully after fighting him. Such an amazing OST and we dont even hear it.
1.03 fixed it from what I’ve heard, haven’t been able to confirm it myself though.
Ikr astel is a fucking spectacle MASTERPEICE and at that point in the game I feel the difficulty is good but not too crushing
yeah especially because he put elden beast so much higher
@@darmakius3108 well he is a tanky mf. And resistant to almost everything.
@C U Next Tuesday Too bad I'm a melee user and haven't used a single spell in my first playthrough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
21:11 this combo right here is my favorite, the ending with the hammer swaying around is so satisfying
i love how you have positive things to say about even your "worst" picks lmao, it's a breath of fresh air. personally, godskin duo had me malding
100% agree with morgott and your top picks in general. it's also nice to see more people appreciating radahn (as upset as i am that they nerfed him into the ground, smh) after the amount of salt i've seen elsewhere haha
And the design is awesome as is the fact that you're in the absolute deepest part of this world and you are in the middle of discovering one of the most ancient secrets
Also I was so mad when I beat Morgott on my first try. I got really lucky and didn't even had time to learn his moveset but he seemed so cool. I later trued to help other players with him but it wasn't the same...
We agree on Morgott. He is definitely my favourite FromSoft boss alongside Saint Isshin. I LOVE Maliketh second phase but the first phase was ok
You should've kept the whole nuke sound in for placidusax! The sound design is amazing! Best boss in the game for me
Honestly, Dragonlord Placidusax has to be my favorite boss in Elden Ring followed by Maliketh and Godfrey.
Astel was such a breathtaking fight the theme and the enviroment was top tier not to mention character design
@@nicholasgraves3149 she is most definitely not an abysmally easy boss idk what shit you are on
I disagree with Radagon/ Elden Beast and Godskin Duo, Radagon wasn't bad but Elden Beast was so annoying and tedious because he has way too much health to be running away as often as he does.
Imo malekith (spelling) had the most visually pleasing move set. Such a thrilling fight.
FINALLY SOME LOVE FOR MORGOTT. Great soundtrack, great fight, great lore. Not enough people give him the credit he deserves.
I almost wanted Hoarah Loux to beat the tarnished and go end Radagon's career 😂

I recently just beat Elden Ring, and god I love Radagon and Elden Beast. At first I hated it but got used to the moveset, and eventually I could get Radagon to half health without taking a hit/taking one hit. Elden Beast is an absolutely beautiful and amazing boss fight, my only gripe is that sometimes he can throw multiple attacks at you at once, but other than that it's doable. i fought fortissax for the first time in ng plus today cause i missed him in my first playthrough, and the presentation was amazing but i wasnt in love with his moveset. also it was wierd, it took me like 5 tries and each try he was always 1 shot away from dying and i just kept getting cheesed, maybe thats why i had a bit of distain for him.
That Rykard one was sooo relatable for me like the delayed attacks are what get me
Malenia would be so much better if she dropped the flurry attack and healing. Especially the healing, it just feels tacked on for the sake of being hard when it really is just frustrating and tedious
learn how to dodge it then
Hard disagree on healing, if you’re seeing that healing is an issue than you’re either getting hit too much or you need to level up more to cater to your lack of skill
There is a lot of bad design in elden ring to be honest
Yeah, kinda like when my friends suggested me that "blood infused fast weapons with high arcane scaling" are good counters and I am sitting there with my strenght-intelligence build and Royal Greatsword +10... I know respec is a thing but damn, what's the point of creating a character if I'll have to change It to fight just One boss??
Or a shield. I def wish this attack was slightly changed but I don’t want her to be nerfed at all
@@endertuber8300 I did it with the moonlight greatsword yesterday without summoning.
It's really hard to pick a favorite boss because they're all so great! I still haven't finished the game but damn, I'm loving this game so much.
Morgott is also my favorite boss, everything about the guy is incredible
The boss design in Elden Ring in general is off the charts. Nearly every major fight made me go "holy crap" at some point. My personal favourite is Malenia.

I really hope they fixed placidusax in the last patch. I fought him in my first playthrough and everything was going well until phase 2 when he glitched out and froze in place. It felt cheap killing him in that state but at least theres NG+
happened to me too but I just logged out and did it again, not that big of a deal
I felt so bad killing Morgott
Its a nice touch that when you fight Godfrey, he aknowledges Morgott. He deserved better
For me, Godfrey is easily 1st place, I loved how badass he was, phase 2 is my favourite phase in probably all souls games
Yes man , morgott is a beast
Easily on my top 3 favorite bosses of any souls game
Radahan really gave me Valstrax flashbacks when I first fought that damn Elder Dragon in Monster Hunter
Nice idea but bad execution
and i agree on Morgott.
I agree with Malenia's rating. If it weren't for the blade flurry attack she would be an amazing boss imo. That move is kinda bs.
Rennala needs more HP. Such a beautiful, well designed fight but it's usually over really quickly lmao
Mohg, Morgott and Maliekth nearly surpassed Slave Knight Gael for me
For me my top 5 of all time
Isshin
Gael
Morgott
Ludwig
Maliketh
@@noobmaster1368 great list
Mohg and Maliketh? Are you kidding me? Unbalanced bosses, annoying to fight.
@@handzar6402 they were pure fun idk what you talking about
@@handzar6402 damn just really shit takes all over this video. Must suck for everyone to tell you you're wrong 😂
My favourite bosses are Horse loving Demigod, Furry Artorias and Handicapped Valkyrie
They know that people like us are going to do 10-200 playthroughs, so they gotta mix in some baseball change-ups
i hate it, makes most fights super tedious, especially when you combine it with long combos
I remember seeing those on Margit for the first time and all I could think was "FromSoft you clever little shits lmfao". Especially so because one of my biggest bad habits in these games is panic-rolling, so I appreciate it when bosses make it so you HAVE to be precise about your dodges.
@@Akario3 Delayed swings are meant to discourage panic rolling
@@magistrate3343 yes, and i apreciate them, but when they are COMBINED with long combos the bosses do, it tends to drag out fights
Is there any boss that doesn't get wrecked by bleed?
@@electronicmusicofjapan-emj9882 bleed immune bosses like rad and elden

Morgott’s took me FOREVER to beat, and got frustrated countless times. But looking back, it is an awesome encounter. And the thematics are awesome
I love morgott. I traveled to the capital early trying to make it to the mountains. So I had to beat him at level 80 and it was incredible
