      -The Single 2.40€ ticket is only valid for the bus, not the train (as stated). As you've mentioned later a single train ticket from the airport is 4.60€.
      -For the bus, it is important to mention that you can only buy a single on the bus from the driver-drive will not accept notes larger than 10€
      For now you cannot buy a ticket on the bus due to Covid restrictions. On the red TMB buses you can use their app to scan the barcode and buy one (after registration and with a credit card). A single card does not include changes to other bus line or other transport mean
      -Apart fro the mentioned 46 bus there are also 3 night buses serving the airport so if you arrive late or need to get to the airport early you can use them. The single is 2.40€ If you have an integrated card you can use it.
      All 3 lines start/end at Pl.Catalunya and run along Grand Via to the airport.
      N16 serves terminal T2
      N17 serves terminal T1
      N18 serves both terminals (and has less stops).
      -The T-Casual replaced the T-10 with one major change - it is a personal card now so you cannot share it with others (each passenger must have his own card). If you want to share get the T-Familiar which is an 8 rides/10€ card.
      In general all integrated cards (like the T-Casual and T-Familiar) can be used on all integrated transport means (TMB metro, GC metro and commuter trains, Rodalies trains, buses -not the Aerobús as it is not part of the integrated system, trams and two funiculars.
      -Each ride with an integrated card can include up to 3 changes to different transport means (changing inside a closed system, like the metro, without leaving the system will not count as one of the 3 changes, a a change is when you need to use the card).
      On each ride you have 75 from the first validation of the ride to make the changes
      If you reuse a transport mean (go out and back into a specific closed system or take the same bus/tram line) it will be considered as a new trip, even if you are within the 75 minutes time frame.
      -As mentioned, the airport metro stations have a special 5.15€ fare for a single ticket. You can use integrated cards on the airport metro with the exception of the T-Casual and T-Familiar. which will not work there. You can use other integrated cards and the HolaBCN card.
      The L9S metro is not very convenient as it does not reach the city center and with the required change it take about 1h.
      -It is important to mention that as long as special Covid measures exist thing can change.
      -Taxi. In general there is no flat rate but there is one exception - a Taxi between the port and the airport has a flat fee of 39€.
      -HolaBCN - in general I do not recommend it as Barcelona is very walkable and since most attractions are within a relatively small radius from the city center most will not use public transport as much as they think.
      That said, many prrfer the peace of mind of having an available card but before deciding you need to take into account a few things:
      Since you cannot share the cards (with regular cards you can get the T-Familiar) each of you must have a card.
      The HolaBCN card is not an integrated card! It is a joint venture of the tourist council and the main transit operators (TMB city buses and metro, FGC, Rodalies and trams) so it does cover most trasport options but it does not work with other operators, so you won't be able to use it on the night buses or any other bus that is not operated by TMB (like the night buses or buses to nearby places)
      The HolaBCN only works in zone 1. For most it's more than enough but for other zones you'll need a separate card for 2-6 zones (depending on where you need to go). For some municipalities in zone 2 you can use a regular 1 zone integrated card from zone 1 to those specific municipalities in zone 2 (for example, to visit to Colonia Guell).
      -And finally some good news about the train.
      A new and improved train service is being constructed now. The new line will include a shorter rout with double tracks, a new underground station right below T2 and a connection to T1. They are at the last phase of construction and it should open in 2022-2024 (depending who you ask). It is not cl=ear yet who will be the operator (the Generalitat want's to give it to FGC and the government to Renfe) but both promise high frequency (now there is a train every 30 minutes, FGC promised a train every 9 minutes and Renfe one every 7 minutes).

      @@AL5520 thank you so much for your detailed and very informative contribution. 👍👍👍 We've corrected the copy & paste error on the text regarding the cost of the single ticket for the airport train, thanks again for pointing that out.
      As authors of a complete online guide to Barcelona we are more than familiar with the ins and outs of local transportation in the city. But as information overload can sometimes be a killer we went for a more simplified approach on the video here. We will deal with public transportation in Barcelona in a future video.
      As for ongoing developments, time has taught us (the time it took for the airport underground line to be ready!!!) to talk only about alternatives in operation. We will talk about the new trainline when it is operative, and the same goes for T-Mobilitat (it should happen soon).
      We agree 100% on the issue of Barcelona being a walkable city. What makes HolaBCN! attractive is that it includes the airport underground (and, from experience, we would say 99% of tourists will never venture outside zone 1). We don't dislike the metro line, our main objection is cost. But it is modern, fast, all the stations have elevators and escalators and if you are taking the red or the blue lines, it can be a valid alternative. It is far less crowded than the airport train.
      Once again, thanks so much.

    I appreciate the time and effort on making these videos. The information is quite detailed. It’s been mentioned that there are thefts in Barcelona, which option would you recommend to us new visitors with two large baggages in order for us to store them in areas that are within sight. I am assuming that larger overheads are only for carryon bags, and larger ones are stored at the back. If I am correct - should we be worried about luggages being taken. I might just be bing paranoid, but all
    that mention of barcelona heing the pickpocket capital makes us a bit worried. Amazing and helpful videos. You have a kind and trustworthy face. Thank you.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Many thanks for your kind words, Red Mouse. The existence of pickpockets in Barcelona (and many other European capitals) should be something you should be aware of, but never allow that fact to ruin your trip. You just have to be careful with your belongings. Pickpockets do not target bulky items, your luggage should be fine, they are interested in wallets and smartphones. So for as long as you carry your valuables somewhere out of (easy) reach, you'll be fine. Have a great trip!

    Hello Tony!!! I have been watching your videos since March, when we booked our trip to beautiful Spain. My question; when we leave to fly home from Barcelona, we will be coming from Zaragoza by train. Will it stop at the airport or will we have to go into the city and then back to the airport? Flying TAP so guessing that will be Terminal 2. Thanks for all you do to make our travels that much more enjoyable!!! Nancy

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Nancy, always delighted to help. The train coming from Zaragoza will stop at Barcelona Sants station (it might continue its journey or not, depending on the train you are taking). Get off the train at Sants station where you have two options: a taxi to the airport or a train to the airport. TAP flights operate at T1, which means that if you take the train, on arrival at the airport, you will have to catch a free shuttle bus to T1. All the best!

    Two weeks ago I arrived at T2 in a Saturday morning with my family (4 persons in total, each one with a bag). We had to go to Glories area, almost in the other side of the city, and we chosed the metro. It was a good choice. The metro was almost empty and we had to do just one line change. The trip leads 40 minutes. I, only, don't recomender to do this if you travel with little kids... some of the stations haven't lifts or the access to them isn't clear and, also, mechanical stairs don't exists in every metro stations.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your experience, Nuno. All the stations belonging to the airport metro line are equipped with escalators and lifts, the problem starts when you transfer to some of the old lines, like the red line, as you experience when you arrived in Barcelona. If you had taken the train to El Clot and then a short metro ride it would have cost you slight above 1€ per person and no hassle with the lack of stairs.

If you are traveling light and saving is an issue, take the airport train to Barcelona-Sants where you will change to metro line 5 (blue), stopping at Sagrada Familia station, near the hotel. If you pay for the trip with a T-casual card, it won't set you back more that 1€ and a few cents, as only a trip will be discounted from your card.

I have a question regarding the airport train. My return flight departs from BCN at 06:15AM. Does the airport train operate 24 hours a day, or do you recommend taking a taxi to the airport?

      Hi Paul, delighted to hear we are being helpful. The train doesn't operate 24 hours, and with the first service you won't make it in time for your flight. You could either take the Aerobús (24 hours) or a taxi. Next Sunday we'll be publishing an updated version of this video. All the best!

      Hi Sonia, Uber is battling local regulations in Barcelona. It operated in the city, then it had to go and now it's just come back, but operating under very strict limitations. A new law being approved soon might mean it might have to leave again. We only used Uber once in Barcelona, ended up being much more expensive than a regular taxi.

      Hello there! You have three good options options:
      a) if you are traveling with bulky luggage, the taxi.
      b) the airport metro to Collblanc station and then change to line 5 (dark blue), direction Vall d'Hebron, and travel to Sagrada Familia station. It's then a five minute walk to the hotel.
      c) the cheapest option (paying with a T-casual card). The airport train to Barcelona Sants station and then the metro line 5 (dark blue), direction Vall d'Hebron, and travel to Sagrada Familia station.

We intend to improve the video even further but we are waiting for a major change in the way tickets are paid for in Barcelona, that should happen sometime before 2023, we believe. Two options to go to Liceu:
      - the fastest, most comfortable and more expensive: a taxi. Expect to pay around 30€.
      - the cheapest, the airport train from T2 to Barcelona-Passeig de Gràcia and then metro line 2 direct to Liceu metro station. If you pay for you ticket with a T-casual card you will spend just 1.13€ to complete the journey.

      Hello, Anand, welcome to the channel.
      1) take the airport train to Barcelona Sants. Then the metro green line to Espanya. And then the metro red line to Universitat. This is a good option if you are not carrying luggage. If you are carrying luggage, take the Aerobus, it has a stop at Universitat (the last stop before the final stop of the line).
      2) it will all depend on how many trips you will be taking. But is seems as if T-usual could be the best option for you. Have a look at the video where we explain the different types of tickets in Barcelona: th-cam.com/video/T2n160pWqJQ/w-d-xo.html

I believe the bus journey alone will easily takes close to an hour excluding the waiting time. Your suggestion definitely helps to speed up the whole process. Hello tony. Your videos on Barcelona have been the most helpful on youtube. Great work! I need to confirm if the T Casual card can be used from BCN T2 to Passeig de Gracia on the Renfre. I am reading conflicting information. It seems they no longer allow airport travel on the T Casual.

      Hi Mary, glad to hear our information has been useful. I don't know which sources you have checked, could you let us know where you heard T-casual is no longer valid on the train? As far as we are aware, the T-casual card continues to be valid on the train leaving from the airport. It cannot be used on the underground, but it is valid on the train. It is part of the integrated transport policy of the Greater Barcelona area, in place for more than a decade, and we are not aware of any changes to that policy. All the best!

What is the best way to go from the Airport ( T1) to my hotel? The Aerobus has a stop at Gran Via - Borrell. Is that walking distance from my hotel? What about the return journey to the Airport T1 from the hotel? I am told the stop is at Carrer Sepulveda. Is that also close to the hotel? Please let me know so that I can plan my trip. Tony, thumbs up on your informative video. I just subscribed. I will be visiting Barcelona next week. I have a questions, If I purchased a t-casual card for ( 10 trips ) $11.35, can I used it to take the A-1 bus from the airport to to plaza de espana and transfer to the L3 metro. It would cost me 1.35 euros each ride, is this correct. thank you.

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ed, many thanks for your words. The airport shuttle bus works independently from the public transport system in Barcelona, and for that reason the T-casual card cannot be used on board the A1 bus. With a T-casual card you can take the airport train. You could ride the train to the city and then transfer to the L3 metro line. If you transfer to the metro line within 70 minutes after your entrance to the train station at the airport, you will only use a single credit from your T-casual card. In other words, getting to your accommodation in Barcelona will only set you back 1.35€, not bad at all!

      If you take the train you will have to walk three large blocks. If you are up to it, it can be an option. But bear in mind getting on and off the train with lots of luggage can be a bit tricky. You can check all the transportation prices on the fixed commentary below the video. A taxi will be far more comfortable, quick and relaxed.
