Not only look down at the pavement, which might only be valid for Barcelona, but for all cities, also look up. If you only look around at "ground level" you might miss wonderful facades or rooftop features higher up.

As a Spaniard born in Barcelona let me share some tips with you:
-1. Don't eat nor drink anything at the RAMBLAS or near SAGRADA FAMILIA. We citizens know that quality-prices in these areas can be almost considered a scam. Avoid that zones if you really want to taste local food.
-2. We spanish don't drink as much "sangria" as you think. Try "tinto de verano" instead which is closer to our habits.
-3. Please, please, please, keep your belongins safe. No need to get obsessed with it but always be cautious.
-4. For whatever visit to city landmarks you should previously check official websites.

Be careful when traveling in Barcelona. My wife had her cell phone stolen while entering the Parallel metro station. The gate suddenly refuse to open with the metro card then someone bumped into her and reach into her coat pocket to take the device. If something unexpected happens you can bet someone is looking to distract you to steal your stuff.

Great video. Saw this vid, did planning, then I drove 2.5weeks in spain and a little bit in france (narbonne). Useful advice in this video. Underground car park $25-30ish a day I found. I'm not european so i couldnt seem to get online app deals (better prices) . sigh.
I did not go to Sagrada F, luckily didnt buy ticket as i got sick on the 3rd day.
Downtown areas near medieval quarter and the areas just northwest of that was quite stinky in terms of car pollution, same with areas of Granada.
Barcelona' architecture in so many places was totally beautiful, I was very impressed.

    Good video and tips.
We visited in August 2002 and stayed in the Hotel Continental on Ramblas, booked 7 nights. Around the corner from the metro at Placa Catalunya. The hotel was B&B and they also had a tea/coffee area with biscuits all day long. The room had a small balcony with table and 2 chairs. Across ramblas from the hotel was a Supermecado where we sourced most of our evening meals.
We planned the trip using a Spain Travel book.
Listed everything we wanted to see, marked on maps. We walked, and walked and walked. And ticked off the list.
The only time we used public transport was the bus to Gaudi Park and the train to Montserrat.
Walking ensured that we saw far more interesting buildings and churches and some dicey areas. Eating out whether a meal or just tapas get away from the tourist areas and look where the locals eat and drink. Beware of the paella 'specials', not worth the money.
I kept a book where I recorded what we saw each day and the other side of the book what we spent each day. Back home recorded it all in an Excel.
August is summer, holiday season in Europe, daily temps were 35c starting at 29c. Drink lots of fluids.

Locals visit la Boquería to get really specific and rare ingredients. Most of people never do that and the rest don't do that often. The Mercat de Sants by Mercat Nou metro stop has beautiful architecture almost nobody knows outside of the neighbourhood.

Hi Tony, Your videos are so informative. It gives us so much direction as to how to plan our trip. A big thank you. I wanted to know if Barcelona Sants train station ( or anywhere in Barcelona central actually) had luggage storage and the cost. We are a family of 5 and don't want to arrive early in the day but not have our bags with us until we can access our accomodation. Our other option is to try to change our accomodation days and arrive early in Madrid via train so the same question for Atocha station. Also do you have anymore Menu Del Dia recommendations as one of the restaurants in your video has now closed and it looked really good. Thank you M.

@@danpastor7116 thanks for your words, Dan, we know Reus quite well, in fact, we have quite a few texts on the city on another project of ours (a website on Barcelona in Portuguese). Casa Navas is one of the most beautiful modernist houses we've ever visited. The Gaudi Centre is quite interesting too, never mind the magnificent Institut Pere Mata. And then it is the vermut! Too good to be true. But, from experience, very few people venture to Reus, which is a pity while at the same time understandable, given that there is so much to see in Barcelona.

We are planning a trip to Spain in May for our 20yr anniversary! Probably planning on Barcelona and Madrid. My husband wants to see a soccer game. Would you know how easy is it to get tickets? And when the schedules will be out? And friends recommended seeing the Alhambra…is this doable as a day trip from either city? Thank you.

Hi Joanna, you can check the FC Barcelona schedule here: www.fcbarcelona.es/es/futbol/primer-equipo/calendario Here you'll see how many days we recommend for Granada, where the Alhambra is located: th-cam.com/video/GkgrYc89s_o/w-d-xo.html All the best!

Spain is safe - for as long as you are always aware of the existence of pickpocketing. All the best!

Are there good vegetarian spots (or restaurants with a couple of vegetarian options) in Barcelona? I feel like Tapas near Barceloneta should have options but wanted to hear your recommendations. Thank you!

We haven't covered that issue yet but there are plenty of spectacular vegetarian restaurants in Barcelona and you will often find vegetarian options in non-veg restaurants.
