A few things to remember. 1. Barcelona is pretty compact, walkable, almost all popular sites are within a relatively small radius of around 3 km (a bit less than 2 mi) from the center (Pl. Catalunya) and it's easy to visit each day sites that are close to each other so walking is the best option and most use very little public transport. An eight or ten rides for 2 days (4 to 5 trips each day, each ride can include up to 3 changes to different transport means) is more than enough and cheaper than the HolaBCN card. It's also important to clarify that the HolaBCN card is not an integrated card. It does include the main transport means (metro, tram, red urban buses and commuter rail) but there are other buses that you might need that are not included, most importantly the night buses but also others that you can use to get around in the city and to nearby towns. The HolaBCN card only works in zone 1 while a 1 zone integrated card can also be used for some municipalities in zone 2, for example - Colònia Güell (recommended) is in zone 2, accessible by the FGC line from Pl. Espanya so you cannot use the HolaBCN card for that but you can use any regular one zone integrated card. As mentioned in another comment, right now (at least until the end of 2023) the T-usual - a personal 30 days unlimited rides card - is just 20€ and works for all integrated transport means (including the airport metro). 2. Most city cards are a reap off. The mentioned cards are better than others but they also give a bit of misguiding info, like listing the different MUHBA locations as 7€ each wile the 7€ ticket is valid for all of them or listing a single ride fare for transit, but they can be worthwhile in some cases but most will not use them enough to make it worthwhile. When checking you should decide not just what you want to see but are there discounts that you might get without the card, additional services/section that are not included in the basic and you want to see, which can end up costing more than a separate ticket or that cannot be added to the card's offer and free entry days. As for discounts, I assume you need to stand in line to buy the ticket and I'm not sure it's worth it If you do want to visit the main museums the Articket is a great option, it's valid for a year and free for kids under 16 (even for places that have a lower age for free entry). 3. For the airport transport. It is true that the T-casual, T-familair and T-grup (a sharable card with 70 rides valid for 30 days from first use) cannot be used for the airport metro, but for the vast majority of visitors the metro is the worst and slowest option as it does not reach the center and with the required (and very long) change it takes about an hour but on the regular bus (46 from both terminals - end in Pl. Espanya), the train (line R2N - station near T2, from t1 you'll need the free shuttle to T2) and the night buses (N16 from T2, N17 from T1 and N18 from both) you can use all integrated cards, including the ones mentioned above. Personally I use the Aerobús, which is not integrated and not cheap but fast, and cheaper than a taxi (ups to 3 passengers, 4 or more it's about the same or more expensive than a taxi). I would use this one if you stay near one of the 4 stops it has in the city (3 on the way to the airport) but if you need to change stick to either other public transport means or a taxi. I use it because I live near one of the stops. It's 6.75€ one way or 11.65€ return (return valid for 90 day) and it runs 24/7/365.
Patrick, it's also worth saying that if you plan to buy your metro ticket from the machines at the metro stops, you CANNOT pay with tap-to-pay. The machines don't have this function, you have to physically insert the card so if you don't have a card, you can't pay with your phone for example.
In October 2022, I purchased a 3-day TMB transit pass at the airport's tourist office just outside the baggage carousels. I thought it was an outstanding deal. We used it for getting across town and even rode the funicular up Montjuic on the way to the Olympic Stadium. On our outbound flight, we took the metro and although you have to make a transfer, it worked well. Barcelona's metro is a fantastic system. Looking forward to returning and riding it again. Thanks for all the information.
Some current fares were scheduled to end in June 2023. The government just announced that the T-Usual discount has been extended through the end of 2023. For 20€ you have unlimited transportation but will need to put in you’re passport or an ID number! It is not possible to buy a ticket with your mobile phone at the moment. You will need cash or a card.
If you buy the Modernista card, how do you use it for the 10 highlights they listed? Do we just go in at any time? Do we need to reserve a spot ahead of time online?
Patrick can you please do a video on safety in Barcelona? Not just pickpockets, but I keep seeing posts on TH-cam about people who have been assaulted in Barcelona? Tips, the realities of it, etc maybe you've already done one. Thanks Reed
Incredible video, thank you so much for all the valuable information. 😊 I have couple of questions regarding T-usual card. If I buy T-usual card can I use all the different types of transportation (bus, metro, train) without any limitations (e.g. travelling many times with a metro or bus back and forth) and time restrictions, because with T-casual card you need to change the means of transportation within 75 minutes? Can I buy a T-usual ticket online and take it on TMB machine in metro station, or do I have to take it in TMB store only? Can I use metro at night on workdays until midnight, and weekends until 2 AM with T-usual card? Can I use T-usual card when going from airport to the city center with metro? Thank you very much in advance 😊
You’re welcome! Let’s make it as easy as possible. You can use the T-usual for all of those things. It’s 75 minutes to switch transportation which is more than enough for a transfer. The Tusual is a great option for unlimited travel
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona Sorry i just don’t understand if i have unlimited Travels with T-usual why do I have 75 minutes to switch diferent types of transportation? Can i use different types of transportation and change them throughout the day? Greetings 😊
I misunderstood about TFamiliar. Actually you just have 8 trips for whole. I and my mom have to swipe twice for per entry, so costs 2 times. And it usually error when swipe the second time. No recommendation
You’re correct, it’s cheaper for public transfer. But I think the price point breaks when you consider the places visitors want to go that are included in those cards. For locals , traveling for the entire month it’s an unbelievable deal! This video was filmed before the extension of the discount when the price was set to return to 40€
I love the T-Usual. I purchased it last year for less than €10 (from memory). Now €20. Includes airport transfer as unlimited travel. In other cities it costs more for airport transfers. As someone who doesn’t visit museums the T-Usual for a two week stay is worth it. I suppose not everyone stays for 14 nights.
Greetings from Melbourne, Patrick! I’m coming to Barcelona in June and the information you provide is invaluable! I’m looking at the Hola Barcelona Travel Card for 5 Days, however, I can’t find any information on free/discounted entries anywhere on their website. Could you please point me in the right direction, so I can understand exactly what’s included? Thank you very much!
Is the Hola Barcelona Card the same as the Barcelona Card? Or are they two separate cards? I'm a little confused. I need a card for 5 days and I'd like it to include some of the museums that I want to see that are covered. I guess the best option is the Barcelona card, is that right?
@PatrickGuideBarcelona What is the best way to get from the port to the Gothic district? We will be terminating our Princess Cruise in Barcelona and staying a few additional days in Barcelona before flying home. Our hotel is in the Gothic district. Obviously traveling with serveral bags, so.... Taxi, Uber?? And the on our departure day getting to the airport?? btw Love your channel so informative!
Can you tell me about how the modernista card works? Does it allow you skip the line privileges? Do you need to do anything ahead of your arrival at any of the sites?
I did the math and for the sites we want to see, it’s is pretty much a wash between the Barcelona Card and the Modernista (even without transportation included). But if it saves having to purchased timed ticket at each site and we can just hop from site to site in whatever order we feel like that day, it would make planning easier. For example, there is a group of four of us. If we show up at Casa Batilo at 9:50am, can we just start our self guided tour as soon as we arrive? Would we have to wait until the 10:00 tour? Would there be a possibility that they would say next available isn’t until 12:00? A video demonstrating the actual process of using/redeeming these cards would be very useful.
Thank you very much for video and comments. I have a question about fee museums included in Hola Barcelona card. Where there any changes made recently? i cannot find any info on that. we are planning to visit Barcelona in May 2024. Thank you
Because of the entrances and discounts of getting into the places. If you know you’re only going to be here a few days and want to see some museums and attractions it might be more worth it to get the Hola Barcelona. If you are staying longer than yes, obviously free transport all month makes more sense. Up to you in the end!
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona Not sure why my replies keep being deleted, but I got the answer in the meantime: the T-usual price is subsidized and costs 21,35€ instead of 42,70€. That's why they are much more costly than the Hola Barcelona ones.
@@Gpep4 I'm not sure I follow, are you talking about the simple Hola card or the Barcelona card with the discounts. Currently the T-Usual is subsidized, yes, but that would make it cheaper not cost more.

I thought I was missing something, but the subsidized price explains it.
Hi Patrick, your videos are really helpful! We will be in Barcelona this December and the T-usual looks like a great deal at €20. Can we buy this at the airport? I saw that the paper tickets will be discontinued so maybe we need to buy tickets on the app and load to our phones?
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona That’s great, I will buy a rechargeable card at the station. I’d rather use that than use my phone. Thanks for the reply and the great information in your videos. They are very helpful and professional.
Hey, travelling with my family in January 25’. What is the best city pass ticket to get for all of us or do we need to buy 5 separate ones? Do hotels or air bnb offer this city pass?
Hotels and Airbnbs do not offer the pass. YOu have links in the description box if you want to take a look. There is also a family pass that you can look into. But the best for you depends on what you want to do. That's why i made the video, to hopefully help you make that decision
Hej Patric, one question aboue TMB and T-usual card, since I am trying to register in the app and it requires Spanish DNI or NIE. Is it possible with other ID from EU to buy this coard online using app? Cos it doesn't let me go through th eregistration. Good job BTW ;)
If you buy the Barcelona Card online and want to go to the Picasso Museum for free, how do you schedule an entrance time? We have 3 days in Barcelona and wanted to reserve our spot and didn't want to wait until we are in Barcelona in October. We had visited Barcelona before and wanted to go to Picasso Musuem but line was very long for tickets and they closed it at a certain time. Don't want to repeat that.
I'm going there next week and I'm asking the thing. I'll simply buy the 20 euro 30 days pass and book each place I wanna visit online just to avoid surprises/confusions. All the discounts doesn't really seem worth it and most of the free museums are either not interesting or very cheap.
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona Hi Patrick, thank you very much for the videos! I wanted to check, if I purchase a Barcelona Card online, do I just show up at these museums (listed as free under the card) then and I will get the tickets there?
Hello, 1 question , My hotel is at Holiday in molins de rei (zone 2) I have bought Hola barcelona card to use metro etc for in barcelona do I have to buy T- familiar card for 2 zones to go in and out and rest I can use my barcelona card ?
Hey Patrick I will go with my school and the teachers suggest to us to book the card of 4 days because we will stay for 5 days and the card costs 33+3 extra euros (idk why the extra) do you suggest any other cheaper option that I can suggest to my teachers for 4 days with unlimited rides and to have the availability to go until the airport to go in all the map That you share in the video ?? 0:44 thank you 🙏🇬🇷🇪🇸 we love you amigo from Greece
The 4 day card also includes access to various museums. Maybe that’s why they recommend it. You can also buy the T-usual for unlimited rides and airport access for about 10 euros less
I just saw your caption ...it does not include transportation anymore....So in that case, if I want to visit the 10 places for free and have transportation, should I get the Hola Barcelona card + the Modernistar card?
we were just in Barcelona Airport and theres no T mobilitat familiar, group etc on their ticket machine!!!!!! its only T usual ticket that is available there
I am traveling to Sitges to attend a conference. So I have to travel from Barcelona airport to Sitges first. I would be spending 4 days at Stiges and 1 day at Barcelona. During my stay at Sitges if I get extra time I would like to travel to Barcelona too. So, which is the best ticket for me to pursue multiple travels between Barcelona and Sitges? Is it T-casual zone 3? Will that allow me to take multiple travels inside Sitges?
Hi! I am going on a cruise that leaves from Barcelona, and I will have 2 days after the cruise ends to explore the city. If i were to buy a 2-day Hola Barcelona card online, can I redeem that voucher when I arrive at the airport but not start using it until a week later (after my cruise)? Or does the 48 hours start upon redeeming on the first day?
I have a question! If I get the Barcelona card and then purchase tickets online for places like Casa Batllo or la Pedrera, how can I apply the discounts online? Is it possible? or do the discounts only apply when I purchase the tickets in site showing my card?? Can somebody help me with that? I'm planning my upcoming trip to Barcelona and want to know what would be the best way to purchase tickets (online or in site) and get the card's worth? Thank you for the video and all the info!
That’s four…😂 You use the card at the door for the discount. The card gives you transportation and some discounts but they beat thing to do is look at how much you will actually be using transportation and visiting the offerings. Some of the discounts can be found online to visit bigger attractions
Hi I want to buy T Usual for a family 4 members, online. Do you know the validity period of the voucher? I plan to travel in November and I would buy the tickets earlier. Thanks

Hej Patric, one question aboue TMB and T-usual card, since I am trying to register in the app and it requires Spanish DNI or NIE. Is it possible with other ID from EU to buy this coard online using app? Cos it doesn't let me go through th eregistration. Good job BTW ;)
my kid is 5 years old. Does he have to buy the adult ticket?, we thought of the 48 hours card. Hola Barcelona card.
great video! thanks a lot!
You’re welcome!
Hello Patrick. Do you have a video explaining how to get from the airport to Holiday Inn express Barcelona City 22 @ IHG Hotel
That’s very specific type of video, im sorry o don’t have one that specific from the airport
Hi Patrick is there a elevator in Placa de Catalunya metro station ?
Yes
@lisawashere they hold tickets for people with these passes
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona Hi Patrick, thank you very much for the videos! I wanted to check, if I purchase a Barcelona Card online, do I just show up at these museums (listed as free under the card) then and I will get the tickets there?
@scentofthesea yes, you get the tickets tbete
Patrick, do you know if children ride free or at a discounted fare?
@Viajaconmigo23 it's free for children under 4 years old
Hello, 1 question , My hotel is at Holiday in molins de rei (zone 2) I have bought Hola barcelona card to use metro etc for in barcelona do I have to buy T- familiar card for 2 zones to go in and out and rest I can use my barcelona card ?
Molins de Rei is in Zone 1
So the Ola card gives you access to Metro buses and also leaving and going back to the airport?
Yep
De Barcelona a Sitges son tres zonas.
👍🏼
The Barcelona Card Modernista includes the 10 free admission but it doesn't include transportation right?
I just saw your caption ...it does not include transportation anymore....So in that case, if I want to visit the 10 places for free and have transportation, should I get the Hola Barcelona card + the Modernistar card?
You can get the modernista card and a t-usual card for unlimited transportation for a month
Hello can the Hola Bacelona card be used in other zones? I will be staying in Sitges?
Sitges is not in zone 1. The Hola card is only for 1 zone
we were just in Barcelona Airport and theres no T mobilitat familiar, group etc on their ticket machine!!!!!! its only T usual ticket that is available there
The T Mobilitat is still being added to all machines
I am traveling to Sitges to attend a conference. So I have to travel from Barcelona airport to Sitges first. I would be spending 4 days at Stiges and 1 day at Barcelona. During my stay at Sitges if I get extra time I would like to travel to Barcelona too. So, which is the best ticket for me to pursue multiple travels between Barcelona and Sitges? Is it T-casual zone 3? Will that allow me to take multiple travels inside Sitges?
You won’t need it within Sitges. But you will need it to get back and forth between Barcelona and Sitges, yes.
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona Thanks a lot
The 48 hours start at your first use of the card
I have a question! If I get the Barcelona card and then purchase tickets online for places like Casa Batllo or la Pedrera, how can I apply the discounts online? Is it possible? or do the discounts only apply when I purchase the tickets in site showing my card?? Can somebody help me with that? I'm planning my upcoming trip to Barcelona and want to know what would be the best way to purchase tickets (online or in site) and get the card's worth? Thank you for the video and all the info!
That’s four…😂
You use the card at the door for the discount. The card gives you transportation and some discounts but they beat thing to do is look at how much you will actually be using transportation and visiting the offerings. Some of the discounts can be found online to visit bigger attractions
can I use T-usual for aerobus from the airport?
The aerobus is a separate ticket
Could I use my driver liscence (from EU country) for the ID document required to buy the T-usual ticket?
Yes
Hi can I buy hola barcelona card for travel between viladecans to la sangria familia?
Viladecans is in zone 1 so you could use it with the Hola barcelona card, yes.
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona hey thank u for the quick reply, what about to sant boi del llobregat?
@jumanahaseen8816 I think the best thing for you to do is just look at which towns are in zone 1. You can find all of that information online
What abouth mounthly card? any tips?
I’m the pinned comment, yes
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona thank you 😊

Hola Patricio!

Thanks Bob!
what about a student card..I need a card to be able to use the public transportation during the academic year..what can I choose to save money?
You can get a monthly card (T-usual) or a trimester card. Those might be the best options
@@PatrickGuideBarcelona how is it called the trimester card?
@luisellacadoni7310 t trimestre
@@lulucadthere's the T-Jove for those under 25 (or 30, I can't remember it well), but it requires you to identify with an ID or a document of similar characteristics before you buy it.
It is only available in the PVC rechargable format and at the phone App :)
