- “It’s like fighting a raccoon!” The unstoppable Springboks savour sweetest success as Siya solidifies status. The World Cup Review is here!
The boys are in the stunning surroundings of a suite at London’s poshest hotel; The Mandarin Oriental. They breakdown the last great World Cup, the controversial decisions from that epic final, the elation for South Africa and heartbreak for the brave men in Black.
We’ll have Ryan and Max’s team of the tournament, the best moments, the heroes and the dicks of rugby’s showpiece event
This is the best northern hemisphere rugby podcast by far. As an SA fan I don't expect you guys to be Bok fans. But you guys are fairer than all the others without even trying. Seems you guys are just good dudes that call it like it is. Which is really something.
As a South African, we not the greatest rugby team ever because the All blacks has the best winning rate. We are the best RWC team EVER! and this cannot even be debate.
Barnes and gang had a good game
Unbelievable how the All Blacs kept coming for us. We now basically have a bench better then the starting line up and we still could not brake them down. Something to be very proud of. If we lost this I would have just conceded and let it be.
You guyz are so natural,iI love it,i of cos from the crazy raccoon nation.....Did you ever watch how the springbok(the animal) survive predators in Africa. the lions, hyenas, leapard, etc etc, find out you might understand the will of The Bokke to survive,to win,to overcome much better, and by the way,who even remember the in between games and test matches ..we win world cups, thats our goal,we dont win battles,we win THE WAR.....so yes we are the GOATS....no matter what others think or say, the proof is in the pudding, and let the record show...
I think it is quite clear why Cane got a red. His whole approach to tackling is dangerous as the stance and body trajectory leave a very narrow window to avoid head contact. This means you are taking a chance but the consequence is going to be a red..Cane is not the only player to use this tackle technique, others include Farrell and Kriel
SPRINGBOKS ALSO WON THE 2021 LION SERIES BETWEEN THE 2 WORLD CUPS
With that being their FIRST games since the 2019 final. People tend to forget.
According to some SA fans, that doesnt matter, only RWC matters lol
🦁 +🏆+ last 2 wins against against AB,s = 😊greatest ever
@@slayerbot1394That and British and Irish Lions tour. Only comes around every 12 years. We won that back to back as well ;)
@@Alias-gy3tz so if one was to bring up an annual competition, thats irrelevant?lol
Siya's tackle seemed to me to be primary hit on the ball and secondary head contact. people will argue, but i saw it as the ref's did for all the calls to be honest.
Siya was the second tackler and influenced 'by the late change in dynamics' caused by the first tackler Vermeulen which under the rules is a mitigation factor, which is why the TMO referred to change of dynamics when not upgrading to red.
DuPont is not the greatest scrum half ever, he’s not even top 3.
Aaron Smith, Fourie Du Preez and Joost van der Westhuizen.
Piet Steph makes 28 tackles. All low. He flies in every time. If he can get it right other players should be able as well.
And he is huge.
FRANCO MOSTERT FOR S.A. IS SOO UNDERRATED
His nickname is 'Sous' = Afrikaans word for 'sauce'. You're right, the man who does the hard work in the dark places
Look at the world cup history 😍. SA 4 out of 8 = 50 %. NZ 3 out of 10 =30%. Aus 2 out of 10 =20%. SA by a margin the best world cup team in history 😄 😅😅😊🎉🎉🎉
I agree but the margins are so fine. Jordie gets the final kick and suddenly NZ wins 3 out of the last 4 tournaments which is an unbelievable achievement really. Nothing between these teams.
@@AK-wc9rl yes, but if??
@@AK-wc9rl SA 3 out of 4 away from home. NZ 2 out of e at home 🏡 😴
Thank you for saying that. We supposed to have six by now. The Springboks are the greatest in history and statistics are generally facts according to people on earth.
@@AK-wc9rlprobably true but I have a feeling that THIS specific Bok team would have found a way to get more points to win. Don’t have any facts are stats to back this up but I genuinely believe that they would have found a way, like they did against England and France.
Fav moment - Manie’s no look cross kick🎉
Won a British Irish Lions series which NZ failed to do
Lovely podcast gents. Just a quick reminder, in the QF South Africa vs France Springboks was down to 14men but France failed to capitalize. So 15v14 doesn't necessarily win you the match.
Modern day rugby is too competitive to win every game. Everyone almost caught up with the ABs. It’s all about squad depth otherwise you’ll just be a good team winning 17 in a row but nothing to show in the WCs… oops too soon.
😂😂😂well said
@@uSbusiso_ And versatile covering various positions Kwagga could play wing 7's has really improved the Boks skill sets
Weird statement
17 in a row with some rather fortuitous reffing.
@@markbrown-sb2zm 🤣🤣🤣wish I could see you whinge
Kwagga Smith at 7(South African 6) most turnovers in the comp.
Springboks have an 83% win percentage for 2023 .
Without Marx the boks couldnt get the usual set piece dominance, or the turnovers to use the maul. They found a different way to win. Nz 2015 couldn't win without mccaw.
Kriel pretty much stopped, changed direction, then took at least 3 steps in that direction before Cane smashes him. Not the same as a last split second change of direction into the contact.
Yeah, and he definitely threw the shoulder in
I think these guys forget just how rubbish the Springboks were before Rassie and Jacques took over. The Springboks had been at the lowest point in their history, Rassie and Jacques scraped them together, accidentally won a RWC because they took advantage of a favourable draw, missed a year due to Covid, won a Lions series, then had two years to build the depth necessary to make it through their RWC draw. Of course there was going to be a building phase. What we all really want to see now is if Rassie and the Boks can maintain consistency now that the major rebuilding has been completed.
Brilliant episode guys! Max's face when Ryan said the way England lost is his best moment! Pretty damn near pissed myself! 😂😂😂😂
Sounds like you guys are not so keen on the Springboks. It's a shame cos they are the best.
They have lots of respect for South Africa.
Just put PSDT at 6, Ardie at 7 and Aldritt at 8. Pretty badass back row if you ask me
PSDT was also man of the match against Scotland
"The way England lost to South Africa." - "That was my favorite moment." 🤣🤣🤣
I reckon Barnes if anything favoured the mighty ABs in final. The try that ABs scored was forward from the hand and bounced forward. Kolbe in trying to make a tackle accidentally knocked the ball on ground and got carded. Ryan u a real jock, inviting death threats.
Saw Willem Alberts in a gym in Johannesburg once. Biggest guy I have ever seen. He is massive
You three guys are propably the only three Brits I like. Keep up the good stuff. Bye the way, best current full back Bauden Barrett, and i'm a South African. Best flyhalf must be Finn.
Barrett was not good this World Cup, Willemse, Ramos and Hugo Keenan were all better than him this World Cup.
@@jameswyatt4443 True, but he did nothing wrong. Solid on defence and very good on attack. I always rated Barret as one of the best flyhalfs. His ability to get players into space and tactical kicking are sublime. Willemse had a poor game against England, and Ramos did not play in the final, the same with Keenan.
@@IronCross666 Barrett was no good on attack. He did almost nothing in the whole knockouts.
The SA Bench won them the RWC - why not then have Kwagga as the #7 for the world XV? He was the best 2nd half player in the world.. not even close.
Guys, they chose the world team before the world cup because they anticipated a northern hemisphere clean sweep, and then didn't get it.
Remember, rankings mean nothing, form going in means little, we proved it in 2019 and England and NZ proved it in 2023.
Nope it was confirmed after the final, according to Drew Mitchell
@@Hrodwulf9 I saw that interview, I do not believe they were not pre-emptive choice, they were pissed at the Bok win across Europe.
This is the first time I caught you guys, and I really enjoyed it. Just a request - who are you guys? Can't you put your names in the first comment so we can google you? Dunno who you are, my bad, but help me out here.
Boks development were stunted from the beginning. Rassie and Nienaber hardly had time to put a team together for 2019. Then Covid put paid to development for two years, they were lucky to put a team out for the Lions series which they won, 2015 AB's couldnt.
Then just 2 years development for the 2023 WC tournament.
Boks havent really had a full cycle to develop.
True, they had 18 months of training for 2019 won it.
1 week training since 2019 wc for lions, won it at a csnter.
3 years for 2023 wc,every other team had 4 years,won it. 5:51
The all blacks drew the lions series … didn’t win everything in that period 😊
SA might have been more dominant in between the World Cup if it hadn’t been for an entire season out cause of covid. We had to hit the ground running cold for the British and Irish Lions and the rest of the time was spent building depth which worked.
Guys, make sure that when you come out to South Africa, make sure to go watch the schools rugby festival to see where the talent comes from and see how ruff they play rugby.
Greatest is meaningless, the question should, are the springboks the most successful World Cup team?
For 7 (and I presume they mean open side flank), if you are looking for a fetcher type player who is all over the place in attack and defence, then Kwagga Smith was by far the best this year. He had 10 turnovers in the WC (3 more than any other player) and averages about 2-3 turnovers per game this year too. He scored tries, breaks through tackles and defends like a 120kg flanker even though he only weighs 93kg.
People don’t talk about him because he rarely starts a game but if you are looking for an open side in the Ritchie McCaw mould, he is head and shoulders above everyone except for maybe Morgan.
As individual players 2015 N.Z. had unbelievable players,as collective team think boks have it.
Hey guys, just tell the Boks they are the greatest team of all time!
Otherwise they will come to 2027 to prove a point😄
What about south africa being rugby and cricket world champions at the same time
Max still looks a bid sad that springboks beat england in the semis..
Weirdly I have not seen a single one of these podcasts the entire RWC, was my fav rugby show, think they changed the name. 17:19 Classic line from max, it is these types of comments that mix Rugby with mainstream culture that resonate so well with the audience. Glad they are staying at the The Mandarin Oriental - classy show! Best one out there!!
Yeah, it was strange that I didn't get any of the notifications during the World Cup. I watched their first episode of the new show just before the WC, on which Ryan said he'll be going on the cruise ship in France and thought that's why there was radio silence. Just binge all the episodes I missed. Loved Offload, and loving Maul or Nothing.
We just going to ignore the lions series guys? Not to mention that during that period we had to do that during covid lockdowns.
Cane's tackle was a liberty, same as Scott Barrett's on Marx at Twickenham warm-up game, both tackles lost ABs the games. Slow learners........lose WCs.
They won a Lions Series in btw World Cups and there was COVID too. And they do try and win all the time. We were struggling before in 2016/17 but started building in 2018
Red card or not, Boks were always going to find a way to win. They dominated the first half and the game management in the second was world class
That's what Conrad Smith alluded to at the award ceremony. He felt the Boks closed up shop and played low risk rugby in the 2nd half and if they were behind would open up more if needed.
It was a tactical master class between various astute coaches on both sides. Squidge Rugby has an interesting take on it all.
SA competes with Forex. Players can earn 3 times more in UK, France and Japan. So, even if they put their best players on the field for the Championship, they have travelled 50 hours to get there from all over the world. We don't believe we are the best team ever - that is the AB circa 2011-2015, but we do believe, and the stats back that up, that they are the best RWC team ever. A 50% win record in indisputable. NZ at 30%, Aus at 20% and the entire NH at 10%. Also, ABs have one 2 of their 3 in New Zealand.
You say not enough Springboks in the WC team then proceed to select a team with not enough Springboks 😂
As a bok fan, i absolutely love watching the haka. I love the challenge, the cultural heritage. Few things upset me more than when the fans shout and drown out the haka and i cant bloody hear the passion. Really pisses me off. Really, really glad i could hear that world cup final haka from NZ. And im still proud that NZ debuted the Kapo o pango against us for the first time way back when.
I love the Haka too
Led by Tana in 2005....still THE best Kapa o Pango in history imo😍🤤

I think it’s been so sad to see so much hate again for Wayne Barnes, and this time from NZ, rather than before where it’s been SA, and France with those threats (see GBR pod with him for all on it).
At 7? Pieter Steph bruhh?
The analysis of the Sam Cane red card by actual players really gives one another perspective. I mean, it takes seconds to make a decision and also to defy gravity and velocity.
Frizzell's croc roll on Bongi was worse but it shows how cards are a mess.
Guy’s, SA won WC 2019, beat the LIONS and then WC 2023 and in between this, thrashed NZ, Argentina, Australia, Wales and England to mention a few. Mmmmmmm
But no Freedom Cup or Rugby Championship right? FYI winner a kick contest requires one good player. Scoring a try requires a team.
@@richardparnell7584 funny how people think SA just kick. It’s laughable. The final was played in the rain so any clever team will play to the conditions. On a dry pitch, SA play completely differently. Just count the tries eg: go back to Twickenham against the AB’s all the way back to the 2019 WC final. You’ll be surprised
@@dougaylward New Zealand knows what to expect with South Africa. The Boks play the same style most of the time as the ABs do. The Boks know the ABs game and the ABs know the Boks. The Boks are very capable of attacking rugby. What it came down to was the Boks got all there points over and the ABs didn't. The sad thing is that the Boks is moving away from the Southern hemisphere to play with the northern hemisphere and the game becoming lower and dominanted by forward packs slowing the game down and looking for penalties. It like losing a cousin to another family. It was a kicking contest in the end. Your not going to convert new fans to the game if that is how we move forward with Rugby. We don't want to go back to how the game was played before 1990s where the forward pack just smashed the opposition and nobody scored tries. The die hards and forwards will love it, but I can tell you it was shit to watch and not worth paying good money in the rain to watch. The game needs speed to attract more fans. That is why the 7s game is becoming more popular. That is why one day cricket makes more money than test cricket.
@@richardparnell7584 each to their own. This WC had some amazing games and I personally think the fan base has grown. Obviously it would have been great if France won it as their people would have gone nuts and interest would have peaked in Europe. It wasn’t to be so up the SOUTH.
@@dougaylward Rugby is in danger of a collapse in Australia. It's a serious issue that will effect the game in the southern hemisphere. Ireland rugby has grown in popularity, but lets be honest here, New Zealand Rugby has played a part in it. Kiwi's have played and coach in almost every country in Europe. Rugby player, coaches and rugby support staff are probably New Zealands biggest export after dairy products and Lord of the rings actors. The numbers of kids playing rugby in schools is on the decline in most countries and the real future markets for rugby haven't been taped into. America, China and India to name a few. There a few Kiwi's working in America at the moment. And when they all retire they come back to New Zealand to use the free health care. 😅
I'm seeing a lot of vids with this clickbait titles. These vids are doing a helluva job milking the salty clicks from NH fans, no doubt there a gazillion saffa's in the comments soon and I'd hope there's Kiwi's arguing not to diss '11-'15 squad.
That is so click batey - They barely talk about the Boks and then decide they aren't that good even though they had a much harder road to winning the WC and won both WC's away from home (unlike the AB's that went back to back)
Watching this show was frustrating, you guys are speaking about group games and stuck in the Qf, newsflash! There was a final and 2 semi finals, to watch and hear about the losers it sad
No. There Boks are not the best team ever. That title belongs to the All Blacks - FACT
the point here is the greatest team which comprises of 23 players not just 15
But it's impossible to have a Mccaw; Kaino; Carter; Nonu; Smith; J Savea; Skadder; SBW in the same team...that team could go for it every game. I would say this Boks team is the best World Cup team ever. The journey, the wins and the determination...best run ever.
Kwagga Smith at 7 for the insane impact off the bench game in game out
Why can PSDT make 28 tackles clean but Sam Cane can get away with a head shot
PSTD is a 7, but what about Kwagga at 6?
Do you take into account that springbok management does not have full access to the players between world cups. This they was also spent building 2 packs.
Greatest team ever? Gimme a break. They played great defence. Their offense stank in this tournament. If the All Blacks hadn't taken a red card and and a yellow in the first half and made one of their the kicks at goal that they missed they would have beaten the Boks. The Boks didn't win; the All Blacks gifted them the World Cup.
😂😂😂
Yes. They all agreed to gift us the word cup.
Marcos Kremer #7 for the tackle record, beard and effed ears 🥦
Love this trio - especially Ryan.
Ryan is like a mischievous child that you'll let get away with all the mischief because there's never any malice. A great watch, especially because others peddle in controversy; and they don't.
Ryan’s suggestion that the idiots out there send all their death threats to him and the boys just made the other two stall for a second … Max looked genuinely concerned 😂
Levani Botia at 7 💥 The guys a machine 💪
Ryan would you play for any of the SA franchises if they came after you since you're not retired😂😂
Thank YOU!!! 2011/2015 ABs were/are the greatest EVER. Winningest sports team - any sport, anywhere - in sports history. Consistency over time.
2011 It came their way. France was immense in that final while that year it felt like the Springboks had something special for them but didn't make it past the QF.
Lol rabid raccoon remark made me think of that scene in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 where Rocket messed up the villains face. Of course Rocket's team is going to win after everyone and everything was against them 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I've always been a big fan of comedy. This is GOLD.👍
I love how much Ryan hates Ireland 😂😂😂just shameless but Aki should be the jnside center
🇿🇦 Never been an Aki fan but to be MotM against SA and NZ (imo) in a WC is insane.
SA in 2007 and 2011 were packed full of superheroes as good as NZ: midfield of JDV and Olivier bossed everybody. Lost to NZ by 2 in 2015 with the best lock partnership that’s ever lived.
Check out times we put 50 over south Africa, don't tell me they're the greatest
I hate this best team ever title. I'd say best squad ever. The 2011 to 2015 AB's remain the best team.
Two things.
1) The IRB XV can take Eben, and I will back SA to beat them.
2) The 2019 hardly played any rugby because of Covid-19 and still beat the British Lions. They created a forwards bomb squad and got the next generation of SA players in midfield and the backline.
Only 2 teams NZ or Boks. They got 3 out of 12 we got 4 out of 8 w cups. We won every final we played and we had hardest route to win of any other team ever. Whoever don't agree WELL BEAT THAT THEN TALK.
Boks of 09, best hooker du plessis, best lock pair botha matfield, best back row burger smith spies, best 9 du preez best kicking 10 steyn, best 11 habana. Best 13 fourie. That was the best bok side of all time, that.would have.won 2011 were it not for some strange reffing
What you dont understand is that yhe Boks led the Kiwis in matches won until 1996, including a whitewash series won in NZ in 1949, a feat they only accomplished in 1996.
Then the Boks went through their difficult adjustment period of re-entry and political interference.
Now they are back as back to back, 4 time world champions and number 1 in the rankings.
It's always amazed me how biased and nasty the Poms and their media are towards the Boks.
Perhaps it's guilt about their colonization, war, concentration camps and killing of 10-15% of the Boer population at the heart of it all.
Sorry lads love your stuff but your totally wrong about the springboks they are the greatest rugby team ever... 💚🇿🇦
And cried liked babies when we won series in 96, greatest team 😂😂😂
Pollard never missed one kick in this World cup. Nerves of steel under pressure. Tackled like a African Lion give the Guy some credit Guy's. Two World cup finals got to count for something, because it should be about who absorbed the under pressure moments and still produces the Goods.
Especially since the Ireland tour of NZ… even accidentally, with no dipping and hitting a player to the head…. It’s a red these days
To decide the greatest rugby team you just have to agree and clarify what constitutes being yhe best .
For example if you set the rwc as your main criteria then few can argue it is the Boks .
If you use the highest win rate then i suspect it would be the All Blacks .
Perhaps its the most consecutive wins
Without setting a criteria for what constitutes the best team then its a pointless exercise
Let me repeat myself the landscape was not so competitive for mcaws all blacks
Hey boys great show
Just a reminder on the red card tackle
You guys said it in the show “you don’t want to be memed “
And that’s what cane didn’t want either so he smashed him but got it wrong
Great banter - thanks for the entertainment!
Yes they are the best rugby team ever in history rugby
hahaha great show lads! sheesh i was in tears a few times. hahaha
Love these gents🇿🇦💪👍
Great content as usual
Freddy Stewart was great at 15.
Du Pont is not there yet!!!!
Yes, the 2023 vintage is.
How's Bargain Bin going to go back to his cardboard box after all this luxury?
The greatest rugby team to ever exist is the 08/09 Springboks, the first and only undisputed championship side ever.
Had a blip in 2010 when the laws were changed to nullify Brussouw but looked on course in 2011 until the QF.
As a bok fan, agree dont like what happened, but was within the rules, for a change kiwis got screwed, Remember Bryce Lawrence 2011 kiwi ref screwing boks and I have lots of examples. Couldnt get a fair game in NZ for over ten years thats why we went to northern hemisphere competitions.
Have seen so many excuses why South Africa left Super Rugby but that one takes the cake. Rassie gave clear reasons and “ kiwi refs screwing the Boks” wasn’t one. Laughable!
Yes they are!!!!
