    Ten minutes of continuous applause!!!! Far too many TH-cam videos are "SILENT MOVIES." Some daffy electo-hippity-hop music as the only sound heard with not one word spoken!!! BRAVO!!!

    Hi Charles. I love your Runaway videos. You provide so much valuable information. Thank you. I am 6'1with a longer torso versus leg length (30.5 in inseam). I am trying to decide which works best for me. What I have done is mark against my bedroom wall 42 inches, factoring a 4" foam mattress; then tape some twine across the wall at the presumed runaway interior height. I can then simulate sitting up on the mattress to determine how much bedroom I would have. Thanks again for everything you and your wife Susie have done to promote the Runaways.

    Folks - I know you should cross the chains - I just did not in the video. In my video description above, I CLEARLY state that I KNOW I should have crossed the chains, but just kept on with filming my video. I also have a red box pop up at that moment in the video (around 2:48) where I say all of this again. I really cannot count the number of comments I have deleted constantly telling me to cross my chains. I do cross them in actual use and it is explained quite well in my video description and in the video with the red box. I understand people mean well when they comment though.

    This is one of the best videos I've every seen describing the features of a travel trailer. I think Runaway should add it to their promotional material. Good job!

    7:25 I'd use popsicle sticks. It's important though to know what the noise is. I don't want my trailer jumping, for example. I unfortunately had one trailer get off. The chains saved the trailer, but wasn't sure about my chassis.

    I have really enjoyed watching your video because I am also a novice at towing. I appreciate the fact that you start with a very basics and explain the progress you have made and what you have learned. It's also very nice to here are the specific details about products that you purchased for travel safety.

I can tell you are very intelligent guy who is trying to help out a guy like me who needs it...haha.....I am looking into buying one of these trailers and it has been hard to picture what it is like maneuvering inside and getting in and out of it until I saw this. So VERY BIG THANK YOU and God BLESS YOU!

      Thank you! Today we are doing final packing for a trip to Florida for the 2nd annual Runaway Campers Homecoming Rally. I will be filming at the Rally like last year. Last year I did a Runaway Factory Tour film - look it up on this channel. While I am there, I will be filming 2.0 version of this primer video. It will show all of the modifications we have made, as well as a general review of using out 4x8 Runaway camper for almost 3 years. It will be posted here in a few weeks at the most. You might also look at my new TH-cam channel - Moment by Moman - which we just started and it will feature our trips and others things. There is also a FaceBook page by the same name, as well as my momentbymoman Instagram account. We love our Runway, but it is not for everyone, but it works for us. Good luck in your decision making. The 6x8 version is becoming more and more popular, but we like the smaller size.

      You could make one out of an old trailer pretty easily. It would be even cheaper if you can scab the materials.

    I really appreciate you demonstrating getting in and out because I do have a mobility disability. I hear Runaway is now making a model that you can stand up in. I'm waiting to see that one. I looked on their website but did not see it advertised yet. All the best to you and your wife.

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! They did make the larger model this past year, but stopped. I have heard they make make some more of them - you should call them right away and see what their plans are. I'm not sure the stand up model will always be available or if they will continue making it. Just call them 352-342-3454 - nice people. All the best and blessings!

    Oh my , I think this is what I'm looking for. Small enough and lite enough (?) to pull with my 4 cylinder Hyundai. Very helpful on the thought of the extra purchases and how and why on the uses! And just seeing how one could enter that's less mobile was a great idea to put in your video. I'm female and I would be able to handle this set up and my cousin is handicapped. I just wish this was big enough to have a bed at the front for an extra person. Of corse I could purchase the bigger but price and weight could be an issue. Love the little extra touches your wife added also and seeing one could set up inside on a fold out without busting your brains lol. Thanks for the video, good job!

    If you have to change a tire on the trailer, just set all your leveling blocks under the rear jack matching thwheel and raise it up with stabilizing jack. between the other wheel, stabilizing jack, and hitch connection you have a 3 point stand. Is doesn't get any safer or faster than that, BTW Im from Ocala as well. lol.

I have narrowed it down to the Runaway, but I also like the MyMini, both seem to be good bang for the buck....I still got about 2 years of research to do before I pull the final trigger on getting one, but I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video, helps with the final decision process..

    At 4:00 you see how the landing wheel is spinning while you're cranking. Hold it with your foot so it doesn't spin and it will go up and down faster.

    Two advantages to 15" wheels: longer between bearing lubes (wheel turns fewer times per mile) and a bit closer to level with a pickup or SUV. For my Honda Fit, 12" wheels make my kit trailer nearly level.

    Instead of those yellow "Lego" levelers, a layer or two of 2 x 6 works well, and usually leaves enough extension for the wheel chocks.

    Very good video. Actually, if the chains are coming from a central point on the trailer frame you do not need to cross the chains. When the chains are coming from either side of the trailer frame, then you need to cross them. It's a good habit to be in but you did not do anything wrong as your chains come from the same point. But then again, you should have listened to your wife. (just because) :)
    again, nice informative video. Thank you.

    Here is a good tip for backing a trailer:
    If you are backing a trailer using side mirrors... If you look in the side mirror and see the trailer and don't want to. Turn your steering wheel into that side, as if you are trying to run over it.

      It wouldn't hurt to mount a vinyl tool box on the back. You could set up a propane cooking stove and/or store a lot of things. How is it going for you? Its been awhile since I was RVing, starting in the beginning of Oct. was a good time to visit Alamo lake in southern Arizona. Good luck and take care.

      I would like to see videos of your trips across country, I love this stuff. I use to work driving big rigs. Last truck I drove was Peterbuilt w/setback axles. My RV was a new Dodge Ram 4 Dr cab diesel 4x4 towing a coachmen chaparral 5th wheel. Which explains 2 Honda 2000 gen. Nothing like a diesel for the heavier loads. Its like having twice the horse power. Adios

    Great video! Thanks Charles. One thing, I didn't catch the dimensions of the trailer. Don't they make a 6x8 version? Yours seemed to be a little narrow for my taste, is it a 4x8 or 6x8? Thanks again.

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the 4x8 and yes, they make a 6x8 version. Look on this channel and you will see MANY new Runaway videos I have created in the past 6 months, plus a version 2.0 of this video. I have videos on each Runaway model, interviews of owners, several modifications videos, a factory tour and more. Plus a three year update of our ownership of our Runaway.

    Only thing I would change is to chalk the tires before unhooking it from the truck. If you are on a hill and unhook from the truck then the trailer will just roll away. Saw it happen to someone in another TH-cam video.

    I was wondering how changing a tire would work, if there was a jack or not. I was thinking you'd lower the stabilizers in the back and then crank up the hitch in front so much that both tires would be off the ground, would that work?

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some Runaway owners do that, but personally I would not. I carry a small bottle jack and it works great.

    I pick up my Runaway in OK next week. I got the cubbies. Can you tell me the cubby interior measurement?

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We actually took our cubbies out last year and built custom sized shelving. The cubbies are great, but we wanted certain size shelfs for things we always take with us. Call Runaway or the OK dealer and they can give you that info. Have a great time with it! We love ours. I am making a version 20 if this video next week. And I have uploaded many new ones the past few weeks. Thanks for stopping by and look for new ones.

    Great video. I referenced this before buying my own XL last month. There is one thing you didn't cover, and its a problem I'm addressing now. What kind of locks do you recommend to secure your Runaway?

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Lower That is a common question. Go to the Runaway Owners Facebook page and check threads there. Many options, but a serious crook if determined can disable most locks and chains. Look at my 2018 modifications video I filmed at the Rally and you will see one owner show his version of security that looks good to me. Some take a wheel off and put it in their vehicle leaving it. Some have a gps tracker. Of course, insure it so it is covered if stolen.

    The best thing about these small campers is that you don't even need a vehicle. Going by the start of your video a pair of legs and a winch would be all you need. Homeless people could have one and they could just walk it around. Cheap living.
