- One of the best parts of traveling is the people you meet. In this video I talk with a traveler named "Dani" who takes me on a tour of her cute little camper made by Runaway. For those want to roam without dragging a lot of space around, the Runaway is a great choice for minimalists on a tight budget who spend more time in the wilderness than inside a shelter.

Brave woman
My question is where do these people get the money to have all this and continue to live in the wild. Takes money to feed yourself and the dogs and keep supplies going. Were they born rich and have a nest to draw money off of as needed.

Lol.... Most people can't seem to live without Facebook, let alone living of the grid! They'll never figure out why they can't flush their poop on the ground!
Creative way of thinking and living. A small camper to be safe and comfortable at night from hazardous weather, etc. and a Large Pop-up to do everything else in. Smart woman!

What a lovely person. To live an uncomplicated lifestyle like Dani's is what so many of us seek. At 72 I am retired and would love to do what Dani is doing but I still have commitments. As a rookie overland camper I'm slowly getting closer to my goals. We are creatures of habit and having all of the comforts of home, computers, multiple televisions, and that "devil" of all possessions, the damn cell phone, really creates a prison of our own making. I often wonder if I could truly live without my desktop computer and cell phone. It appears as though Dani has found her way there. I admire and envy her...well done, Dani! Great interview, Slim.

I can't help but smile when you say this is minimalists camping. I have motorcycle camped across the US numerous times in my youth. I have a 60yr old lady friend who just finished a bicycle tour from Florida to Portland Ore.with only her tent and food she carried on her bike! Now THATS minimalist camping! As for me, I sold my home, 2 cars, and a motorcycle. I'm retired now and my 67 year old bones made me move into a 26' Fleetwood Tioga. Always warm and cozy. I admire Dani's courage attempting to be alone, but if you scan the horizon at 17:48 you'll see numerous camper tops in the same valley easily within walking distance. I love your videos Slim, keep them coming.
I will tell you what I like most about you and your TH-cam videos - you are a positive, happy person who always emphasizes goodness and fun things to do. I am so tired of whiny, bitchy TH-camrs who act so entitled. Keep up the good work, Slim. You are much appreciated.
This was a terrific interview and Dani is a winner.
I really enjoyed this video. I believe Dani is doing it right. Society tells us to buy a home and all the trappings, but it imprisons you. What Dani is doing is living free, and that is true freedom. I love it.
I'm just over 40 now but this girl was my dream girl when I was 25. Her minimalist - every item has a purpose lifestyle is exactly how I was and am today. I wish her all the best in her journey. Great vid!
Anonymous Devil Dog just cause you’re over 40 doesn’t mean you can be with a younger lady. Her lifestyle is pretty amazing and I wish I was that strong and courageous to live like her. Maybe one day

This was a great interview. Meeting other campers that get out and get away from the rat race. Camping to camp is what it's about. The journey and the destination should both be enjoyed.
another great one! dani is another great inspiration to 'get out there'. I love how dani doesn't have electricity except for in her car. it's very practical. her tent shelter is really cool. it looks like a yurt!
A very nice and mellow interview. Dani, like you, is an inspiration to us all. I like that she is reading "The Artist's Way" as it contains one of my favorite quotes "Leap and the net will appear" which Dani seems to be living.

Except in the real world, there rarely is a 'net' to catch you. Perhaps if you're a beautiful, young woman a 'net will appear', but the rest of us have to just leap and hope we survive the potential fall.
@Mike Fernandez I agree it is not a rational or logical statement but it is still one of my favorite quotes from the book. From a rational point of view it may not resonate with everyone however it may inspire a few to take a leap of faith.
@Mike Fernandez you bring up good points especially from a rational point of view however the statement, like many others of similar strain, are meant to inspire people and not to mislead "weak-minded people" although it is possible, like any slogan or statement, that it could be misleading for a few. I still stand by my earlier comment that it is meant to inspire and although it may have a sophistry bent, it can still be inspiring. BTW, have you ever read "The Artist's Way"?
That was a really cool interview and really great that Dani was willing and able to share her story and her space. I'm so burned out and jaded by the luxury millennial campers that basically look like San Francisco or Brooklyn micro apartments in a Sprinter or Promaster. It's nice to see people my age really out there doing this for themselves, not the 'gram.

I just found you and I'm glad I did. I will look forward to your future videos. I like the calmness you inspire, especially when you let nature and its beauty take center stage. I am a retired teacher living in Mexico, I used to travel in a teardrop and then later a tiny trailer. I sold my trailer when I moved here, and watching you helps me remember those days. I absolutely loved this girl! She is everything I'm thinking I'd like to find in a person at face value. Obviously, I don't know her, but her attitude and zest for her lifestyle is just refreshing. And I appreciate what she has done for herself. Please consider a firearm if you haven't already. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. I'm moving closer and closer to this way of life even at my "advanced" age of 67. I find great peace in solitude and I love the desert. Dani is an inspiration.

Everybody’s needs are different but this is what she needs to be happy and I am totally impressed and I admire her. I don’t think I could do what she has done but she has one hell of an inspiration to me and should be inspiration to all of us!!!

Great interview SP! I think Dani has a wonderful setup! The dogs are a great way to keep her company and informed.
She certainly doesn't need to 'keep up with the Joneses' indeed. Here my comfortable home sits, with an older, but beautiful 36' motorhome with everything that's needed to live in, sit's in my driveway....I feel a little overwhelmed. I can't see myself going to her way of life, but it's truly wonderful to see her reasons for wanting to do so, and making it 'her' journey/adventure until fruition! I welcome her way of life to all those that wish for it, or would like to try. I've done many a journey myself, often for many weeks in a similar situation as hers, and as much as I enjoy it for a period of time, I love to get back to 'my' reality, with all the necessities I enjoy as well. Best of wishes to Dani, and those wanting this new lifestyle!

Love your comment, for twenty years, me and my girlfriend sailed around the world on a 615 Privilege catamaran, met some wonderful people and visited some of the most breath taking countries and islands, but as I'm getting older my sea legs have left me, so we sold the catamaran and bought a Dana 24, she's a great boat, we keep her based in Key West and just sail the Florida coastlines, the Dry Tortugas, and the Bahamas.......

That camper is awesome! It’s about the same size as ours and having an outside shelter makes such a difference
IMHO Dani has the perfect setup. I’ve been in the Overland community a long time and a teardrop/squaredrop + high tent is the perfect match. A hard sided, insulated, safe and comfortable place to sleep. A place to cook. And a place to stand and change, shower, use potty, hang out. Everything breaks down into the camper, and it can be towed by nearly any vehicle and achieve 15-20mpgs. 👍👍
I have looked at these Runaway campers a few times. I love them and I love her clam shelter which makes a huge add to this camping experience. Dani has it going on. Nice interview Slim

Thank you Jo for your nice perspective. Thumbs up to Slim also. I'm supposing she is independently wealthy or will return home (Mom and Dad) when her funds for food/gas/etc are minimal. Great interview, Slim. Good questions, good answers from Dani, lots of good conversation. Dogs are an excellent addition to a camping adventure, and I like Dani's effort to live without technology or electricity aside from the minimum essentials.

She is a brave woman, not only to camp out in the middle of no where, just her and her dogs but also to chose a lifestyle that is so opposed to mainstream society. So many of us have dreamed of a life like this but haven't had the courage to chuck it all and just go for it. Good for her!
