Great video, Thanks for the tips! I'm almost done with converting my 4'x6' V-nose cargo trailer into a toy hauler/camper. Adding 120v/12v/Solar power, AC, LED lights, AM/FM-CD/DVD, 24" TV, Cabinets, Tri-Fold sofa-bed and outside storage: 4'x5' roof-rack, 2'x4' rear receiver rack, 4'x5'8" deck above the extended tongue, which made the trailer far more stable at hwy speeds!

I'm sure you will get many miles [and memories] out of this conversion. May I dare ask what the cost of materials for the complete job. Again . Excellent work.

I too am considering a conversion. I've looked at many campers, and many come close to what I want, but only about 85% the way there. Everywhere I want to go has shore power, water hookup, restroom facilities, and showers. If I don't need to deal with a black-water tank, I don't want to. Cassette toilets are a pain. Also, a back/front door, as apposed to on the side seems like a better layout. I'm thinking a door on the front, passenger side. The rear doors for fuse box, water heater, and storage. Then a Murphy bed Queen at the back, Murphy twing(stored vertically) on the Driver's side, and a jackknife couch for a fourth person.
So awesome to have built two fixed huge beds! Luv all the trim work you did as well. Your family did a great job. I am going to check out your channel to see what has happened since then!

I have no building skills but as a 70 year old woman I think I could handle the insulation, floor and bead board myself. For everything else there’s ikea! 🤪
Nice. The wife and I have been debating trying something like this and honestly this video has given me the confidence to go for it. What could go wrong? lol hahaa Enjoy!
TEA JAY It’s probably not I’d do but it does have the advantage of being able to keep the cooking smells, heat and moisture out of the trailer. I suppose it depends on what type of environment it’s going to be used in. It’s got me thinking about how difficult it would be to make a slide out that contained the kitchen that you could deploy when you set up camp? With a trailer this wide there’s enough internal space to have a narrow corridor.
Hey buddy really really nice video I like that a lot but I got a question for you exactly what size cargo trailer is at and what kind is it and how much does it weigh and what can you pull it with can you please let me know I'm interested in one of these deals cuz I really like that stuff so I appreciate your time thank you sir
This is outstanding! Great family build -- and so well done. You should post a rough sketch of that back storage and front area! And OUCH on that 10 gauge wire!
Because of an accident with my tow vehicle I have to downsize from a 36 footer that I build to a 24ft V nose. That is why your video caught my attention. This is now my 5th trailer I have to build. You have done a super great job you have a lot of good ideas. I assume you have anchored you wireing down on all points. If left hanging it will wear because of the vibration down the road. My V nose has a ramp door so I will be able to take my kitchen counter cart outside and cook out there. Another thing I have to make is a murphy bed queen size. Already have plans for it and I am going to incorporate some of your ideas. Thanks so much. I am a boater and I am calling this new one "MY LAND YACHT". Have great road trips,
I've been thinking recently about how hard it might be to make ramp door open upward instead of downward if I ever buy a cargo trailer. Create a porch area with an instant roof. Just need to attach some sort of folding legs to hold it when opened.
Just found your channel a few days ago and me and my family are loving it. 3 questions(which you've probably answered a million times) 1) Cost of this build including the trailer 2) How much does this weigh since your towing with an SUV 3) length and width of this trailer Thanks for your time and the great content
I love the bunk beds! Great use of space! I think you all did a beautiful job! The work was quality and in such a short period of time. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing it with me!
@Jim Watson Oh, Heavens!! Were you at Mt. Rushmore? Yrs ago we camped near there in a tent & the weather was beautiful but a fast storm came up & we were in that tent holding the walls & had hail coming down. We were young and we still laugh about that, but I understand!!
Dadgum that is a heck of a job. My wife and I are trying to decide whether or not we want to go super cheap and buy an old used trailer and gut it and redo it or just go all out and buy a newer model. Then we noticed a cargo trailer for sale and my wife says why don't we convert something like a cargo trailer? I thought she was joking, but realizing that she's not it's definitely opened a new possibility. Thank you for posting your build.
One super positive thing about a cargo trailer vs a regular camper is that when I had my accident, the cargo trailer held up super well because of the steal corner beams. Regular campers don't have that. You should go check out my newest video that I just posted about how I completely redid this camper after my accident.
In 2009 I bought a 7x12 dual axle cargo unit . I used one part bedliner ( 4 coats ) for my trailer ramp , floor and 4 inches of base board strip . Kilz premium 3 coats and premium bright white exterior latex satin for the walls . ( it's a multi use modular interior trailer ) .
Nice job and makes a lot of sense, only question is how does the weight compare to a regular camper about same size? I'm interested due to towing weight limits here in Oz.
Good day, make&do! Just came across your video. I have one question. Do you have a rough estimate of the materials co$t to complete your build?? Thanks in advance!
Very nice work. Neat and clean. However you could have bought a new 18-20 ft trailer for what this probably cost you to do. What do you do it it is raining and you want to use the kitchen?
When you do this, how high can you go? Like for example... going under bridge overpasses, they aren't all really tall; some are low. So is there like a certain height that you don't go above for the top of the camper? How do you also make sure you don't go to heavy with a longer trailer? Thank you.
very good idea about sealing the floor. I hope that wasn't particle board I just saw at the beginning. hope it was coming off, not going on..spray insulation, good. is wafer board like particle board, or different? did you use reg. caulking or silicone caulking? so many questions!! looks good!
Thanks. The flooring was wafer board which is pre-treated and the bottom is also coated with a waterproof seal from the factory. This is common flooring for cargo trailers. As far as caulking, I used a waterproof window and door caulk.
Looks good!! always like the wainscoting...the only thing I didn't get is why have the roof so fancy w/all those wooden squares, isn't that a lot of extra holes via drilling ?
looks terrific. the only problem is did you use house wire? cars and trucks typically use stranded wire because solid wire can break over time from vibration. But otherwise a great job!!
travel trailers typically also use romex wiring. It's gonna take an awful long time to break solid wiring from vibration alone. The real question here would be why the choice of 10 gauge when 14 would have been plenty, and were all connections made with screw terminals? Wire nutted connections are typically whats frowned upon in mobile builds because of vibration
@@jaycevessier7554 where there's oodles of room, and cost is no concern. I'd agree. 10ga is sufficient for a 30a circuit. 12 is sufficient for a 20a circuit, and 14 is sufficient for 15a. There's no reason at all to purchase and install 10ga wire when a 15a or 20a breaker is to be used, aside from personal preference.
@@koof_a_loof I am definitely no electrician, but if this is low voltage why not just run some extension cord wire behind the panels? is there some extra hazard I don't know of there?
Great build! Please don't put any music on DIY videos. If I turn off the sound I miss your voice when it comes on. If I leave sound on, it drives me nuts.
Any chance you could explain the frame work of the upper bunk? I’m trying to figure out what’s giving it the proper support. It looks really well done. Id like to implement the same idea into finishing my build. I won’t be using it for a bed but rather for more storage.
Would it be possible to take away some living area and add solar to the top to make electricity better and if you were to be out in the forest for a while you could still charge all your apliances and electronics without worry of running out of power
No one just "forgets" to keep filming for an entire week, after already filming for three. It takes a lot longer to make a documentary, than to simply complete the project. You were approaching your deadline and had to attend to only things critical to your trip. Its all good, my friend. You realized the satisfaction of completing a wonderful, well thought out project. And best of all you know every detail and nuance of the construction and operation of its systems... Bravo ......
I really like your thoroughness and emphasis on extra caulking and kilz. I am 7 feet tall and need a cargo trailer that I could stand in and live in year round. I just don't have the smarts to build out a tiny house like yours. Any suggestions?
If you aren't able to build one yourself, your only other options are to find a camper that is tall enough for you or find someone that could convert a cargo trailer for you or have someone build an actual tiny house. Of course, labor would cost a good bit. I know of some trailer manufacturers that will custom build trailers that are taller than the normal ones. Having someone build an actual tiny house would be ideal for you. It would depend on your budget though, as that could get expensive.
Amazing video, I am in my preliminary tiny house research and this was inspiring. Regarding the 10 gauge wiring, isn't better to over do it than under? For example if he wished to sell and someone (cough, cough) was to convert to tinyhouse. This wiring gives more options.
When gluing something like beadboard with a glue that will take some time to cure, I suggest you use small hot glue dabs that will hold it until the stronger glue dries. This is a nice idea!
Do you have any idea how much weight your build added to the trailer? Thinking of doing a toy hauler / camper but I have 3500 tow capacity on my vehicle.
Saw a video yesterday where a guy did a 6x12 camper version ( no toys) in an Interstate trailer. It came in at #5500 with a full bathroom. Hope that helps.
Came back to this video after watching the update to try to find out what kind of window that is. I haven't been able to find an RV window that suits my needs (hinges at the top so that it can be left open a bit in the rain), and it looks like maybe you used a regular house window for this? Is that OK as long as it's tempered glass?
Yes. It is a regular house window and it is not tempered glass either. I've pulled it several thousand miles and the window has held up fine. You do not need to spend extra money on tempered glass.
No, but a sway bar definitely helped...especially in high winds. However, I now have a different tow vehicle. I have a Ram 2500 and you can tell a huge difference. The truck pulls so much better.
I’m an rv tech at a very large rv dealership. I must say, you are building this better than 80k dollar campers are built!

Well done! How thick was the insulation you used? We are going to be moving to that phase next
Have great road trips,
That is awesome. I would love to see you "Land Yacht" once it is complete.
What strength axles do you have on thing? I'm considering doing the same thing but am having a lot of trouble deciding on axles...
I've been thinking recently about how hard it might be to make ramp door open upward instead of downward if I ever buy a cargo trailer. Create a porch area with an instant roof. Just need to attach some sort of folding legs to hold it when opened.
@@RedowlMB Saw someone who flipped the door over and welded the hinges at the top. Could work if done properly.
This is awesome. Roughly, how much does something like this cost? and how hot does it get?
I really liked how you stripped it down and insulated it that way. The design would be different for me though.....great job.
Thanks.
I just started my cargo trailer build out. Nothing as fancy as yours, but I decided to put my kitchen in the back also. 👍
Awesome job. I want to do this also but I'll have to take my time as I've never done this type of work before.
Just found your channel a few days ago and me and my family are loving it.
3 questions(which you've probably answered a million times)
1) Cost of this build including the trailer
2) How much does this weigh since your towing with an SUV
3) length and width of this trailer
Thanks for your time and the great content
The trailer/camper build is impressive but I too would like to know which suv that can handle a 7,000 lb. camper.
I love the bunk beds! Great use of space! I think you all did a beautiful job! The work was quality and in such a short period of time. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing it with me!
Thank you!
@Jim Watson I imagine they spend most of their time sitting outside unless it is raining.
Bless you for 'teaching', not only us but all of those teens! Hopefully they go into business together!
I love when you tubers show their work. I attend You Tuber College
I like it. nothing too crazy, yet well built. nice work!
Nice. What kind of gas milage do you get pulling the trailer vs not pulling it?
Great job! It was good to see everyone working together as a family.
Thank you.
Really well made video. How is the ceiling attached? I see the drill but is it going through the metal?
Yes. we were drilling through the metal studs.
Nice job and makes a lot of sense, only question is how does the weight compare to a regular camper about same size? I'm interested due to towing weight limits here in Oz.
The weight for this build was around 3800.
Great build 👍what are you using for the tow vehicle
Good day, make&do! Just came across your video. I have one question. Do you have a rough estimate of the materials co$t to complete your build?? Thanks in advance!
Very nice work. Neat and clean. However you could have bought a new 18-20 ft trailer for what this probably cost you to do. What do you do it it is raining and you want to use the kitchen?
Woow superb. If someone want to build same will you able to share sizes..etc. designs..
I see you are pulling with a jeep Cherokee in the video, what is the trailer weight after built?
WOW what a nice job you guys all did on that trailer I love it
Thanks.
Nice work. What is total weight of it after alternation
Great job! What kind of power source did you use for your appliances? Something like an Ecoflow Delta battery?
Great. Do you know how much it weighs? Which jeep do you have? Engine size? Thank you!
Great Job ! and that bed was very unique I just wish that you could have showed use how you built it.
Yeah, sorry about that. I missed videoing a few things.
Looks good!! always like the wainscoting...the only thing I didn't get is why have the roof so fancy w/all those wooden squares, isn't that a lot of extra holes via drilling ?
It was a lot of work and it was all for appearance. We liked the way it looked.
looks terrific. the only problem is did you use house wire? cars and trucks typically use stranded wire because solid wire can break over time from vibration. But otherwise a great job!!
Sharp!
travel trailers typically also use romex wiring. It's gonna take an awful long time to break solid wiring from vibration alone. The real question here would be why the choice of 10 gauge when 14 would have been plenty, and were all connections made with screw terminals? Wire nutted connections are typically whats frowned upon in mobile builds because of vibration
@@koof_a_loof the real question is why not lol. Never skimp on wiring size
Great job documenting the process. Did you happen to weigh the trailer before and after the build?
Any chance you could explain the frame work of the upper bunk? I’m trying to figure out what’s giving it the proper support. It looks really well done. Id like to implement the same idea into finishing my build. I won’t be using it for a bed but rather for more storage.
I'll be posting several new videos over the next few weeks and I'll show how its done in one of them.
Would it be necessary to put a vapor barrier between the cargo area or did the insulation achieve condensation prevention?
Hi. What insulation did you use in your walls? I like the silver side and it may look good on my ceiling in my build.. leaving it exposed. Thx.
very coool, really wonder how much all the materials cost?
Very nice job. The finished product looks great and it looked like you really did things right. Congrats. 👍🏼
Super cool idea, was it cheaper than buy a prebuilt trailer
Love it! Except, you can only access the kitchen area by opening the rear doors right?
Yes.
Amazing video, I am in my preliminary tiny house research and this was inspiring. Regarding the 10 gauge wiring, isn't better to over do it than under? For example if he wished to sell and someone (cough, cough) was to convert to tinyhouse. This wiring gives more options.
Yes, that is correct. The downside is that the larger wiring is more expensive and harder to work with because it is so stiff.
Would love to see a walk around video describing the features
Did I miss the bathroom/toilet/portajohn?
And the kitchen is outside! I hope it never rains when they are camping or that microwave will be sitting on a milk crate inside.1
You guys did an excellent job, hope you enjoyed your road trip!
Thanks!
Oh yea, watch my video that I forgot to shot, asswipe
Tree Climbing Gear: RuhRoh...there seems a sad little king of his sad little hill running around TH-cam making sad little comments. How sad.
How wide is the trailer? Also, you mentioned running the wiring on the outside of the trailer. Did you use conduit or leave the wire bare?
I'd like to know where your septic tank, water rank and batteries are stored.
Gorgeous home congratulations on your adventures with your family life
A 5 Star Conversion!! You've got a lot of folks with serious trainer envy. :D LUV it.
Thank you.
Gracie: trainer?
Came back to this video after watching the update to try to find out what kind of window that is. I haven't been able to find an RV window that suits my needs (hinges at the top so that it can be left open a bit in the rain), and it looks like maybe you used a regular house window for this? Is that OK as long as it's tempered glass?
Yes. It is a regular house window and it is not tempered glass either. I've pulled it several thousand miles and the window has held up fine. You do not need to spend extra money on tempered glass.
On the wall insulation why didn't you put the silver side out?
Really cool and very nice . The only thing I would change would be a composting toilet .
I have rebuilt this camper completely. It now has a composting toilet as well as a shower. Search for "Awesome tiny house built in a cargo trailer"
I might be mistaken, but you have to go outside and open up the big doors to cook? While you stand outside?
Yes. That is one of the best parts of camping for us. We love to cook outside.
tootz1950 clearly built to camp and not to live out of.
Nice job!! One thing I noticed is running more than one wire in or out of those short electrical boxes isn't up to code but still looks great
Hello, are you guys still doing conversion trailers? went to your website but is not available
Great conversion. any problem pulling it with your jeep suv..I mean weight-limit wise?
No, but a sway bar definitely helped...especially in high winds. However, I now have a different tow vehicle. I have a Ram 2500 and you can tell a huge difference. The truck pulls so much better.
Nice job. Where's the bathroom?
I would love know after 1000 miles or so on road, how that bead board holds up being glued
