He's also had one of the most interesting careers that we've heard, including climbing out of ambulances at the Giro, paralysing his right arm for 6 months, racing in Colombia and combining a pro career with a job as a policeman.

Only just really started watching GCN. Really gutted to realise Matt Stephens had departed. The videos of him with Si Richardson and Dan Lloyd are classics.

Matt... That's just how I remember you looking as a Junior when I was raced. I also remember the race that you won when a lot of people thought you had something special, Aussie pursuit race in Newgate Street Herts when you rode off from the front group and no one was able to catch you even though there were some class senior riders chasing. Keep up good work on GCN !

Great video! It was fun hearing you guys share a little bit of your backstories . However, being a retired NYPD Cop, It came as a welcome surprise to find out Matt was once a Police Officer as well! I'm just getting started road cycling and am obviously, no "spring chicken," but I'm LOVING the rides! I have SO much to learn and your videos are the absolute BEST! So informative and entertaining. You guys "click" so well which make the vids even more enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work gents, Cheers!!

Thank you for sharing your personal stories! I was very inspired by the Lemond / Hinault moments. PS - Matt Stephens: I loved it on the climbing video when you mentioned the classic chainring sizes. I know we often have regrets of what we didn't know (like yours about power training) but remember, there are a lot of great times to look back on in any day and age. We are lucky to be alive in this era. (wow, didn't expect this comment to get so philosophical)
You should make that laugh available as a ringtone lol. Great video also. I became addicted to the GCN channel and subscribed after having a very bad crash while descending a mountain road at 50mph fracturing my spine from the C3 through C7 and T1 through T7. This week I was cleared to remove the Aspen collar and now have a soft collar. Yes I know how lucky I am to still be here and to not be paralyzed. Thank you for all these videos, the advice, humor and encouragement kept me sane while I was stuck on a couch the last 4 months. You guys are awesome, thanks dudes. Ps. the video of Matt chugging a beer while ascending the mountain was hilarious, don't know how he didn't crash after opening it and having it explode hahaha.
I remember racing at a couple of junior events in 1987 Gwent two day ...which you won if I remember, then a week later in the junior national road race in wimbourne Dorset Great memories

Miguel Indurain is my cycling hero, used to love watching him on the tour the france and when it would get to the mountain stages and the alps, and his poker face no emotion at all just brilliant....13 years as a police officer Matt well done!

Matt - complete legend! That Hemel kit takes me back to some happy times at Mentmore cafe. Matt was actually young once (believe it or not, Simon) but still took time out to help even younger riders (e.g. me). His advice helped me win my first RR!
