      100% agree I honestly find that playing most games at 20 watts That's you 90% of the performance and you can game for a good hour and I mean when you get older you don't have you know 5 hours to sit down and play games it's really something that I bought so that and when I have downtime I can just turn it on play Forza play ratchet & clank or whatever and then when it dies or it's time to stop playing or whatever you just shut it off plug it in and go do what you're doing and pick it up later on

    This is such a good era for gaming, at least hardware-wise, between handheld devices, VR headsets, consoles, laptops, and desktops, all between $500-1000. If I were to pick a handheld, it would definitely be the one from Lenovo. The removable controllers mean that it could be used as a tablet so it would also be a decent solution for reading comic books. My only problem is that for a little more money, you can get a decent gaming laptop with a 4050 or a 3060Ti, then even upgrade it down the line. That's a better investment for me because I'm not sure for how long AMD APUs will be able to handle AAA titles, even on medium settings. The other thing is that I play a lot of strategy games, so an 8" display and a controller won't help much. I'm also very tempted to get something like the Meta Quest, which is much cheaper and a pretty good gaming/entertainment device when travelling.

    The two major limitations to these devices right now is a quality OS experience and a universal plug & play eGPU option.
    Ally has its expensive eGPU setup but Windows is still awful for handheld use.
    Valve has nailed the OS, particularly with SteamOS 3.5 but can't use eGPU.
    This from a Deck owner running Steam/Win dual boot... I would love a Steam Deck revision with a 2nd USB C thunderbolt port and eGPU support.
    For me that's the next big step... simple plugin desktop experience with decent power.

      Steam Deck nailed the user experience but other devices have proven that Valve could have gone with stronger hardware. Windows 11 on a handheld isn't ideal and the ROG Ally has a far worse user experience than the Steam Deck, but it objectively has a better gaming experience with its higher resolution display and higher refresh rate. However, I'm probably returning the Ally and going back to the Steam Deck primarily because dealing with Windows 11 is so buggy and unenjoyable on the Ally.

    I bought an Anker Powercore power bank alongside my Steam Deck. It was a bit pricey, but I believe my experience with the Deck has been more enjoyable for it. It fits in the strap outside the Deck's case, and so I can carry both around easily, and as a result, I've never worried about battery life. I've even bought a 90 degree usb-c cable to charge the deck while it's in the case. It's a pretty nifty setup if I do say so myself.

The screen is big and its a heavy device but with reason 1 that whole heavy system goes out the window. 3. Yes i do have a steam deck and i do love it but the biggest issue is not being able to play all of my games even dos box games. 4. I played with thr rog ally its light sure but its smaller and i feel like legion just out beats it by a few different thing's. The whole no vrr is not a huge deal for me as i honestly dont even notice a huge difference from on or off but thats just me. 5. Playing xbox pc gamepass games and other game hubs will be cool.

    I own both an Ally and a Deck. My Steam Deck travels with me. My Ally is strictly either docked or used on the couch with power from the wall. While the Allys power is great, it's also it's greatest weakness. As an actual out and about portable console it's not great. There's too many little annoyances and one major one that stack up compared to the deck.
    Depending on the title and tuning I can get my Deck to last 5 hours. I know it's possible to get nearer to 6 with even lighter titles and really low TDPs. The Ally is at best a 3 hr device on really light stuff. Asus and Valve tuned their APUs in entirely different ways.

      From a business perspective I wonder if Valve has a bigger incentive for very long term support of the steamdeck. Bigger user base. Also those users continue to generate money for Valve with every steam purchase. With Asus they'll make money off the initial sale, but that's where it ends. 1600p is nice right? Yes, it's more pixels then you want and it's costing power any way you cut it. BUT, playing games at 800p means it can do an integer upscale to get still good looking experience just as if the screen would be 800p. Playing 720p / 800p on a 1080p display like the ROG Ally would mean you always have scaling softness.

    • @steel5897
      @steel5897 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Scaling is not really that important, we're very deep into the temporal reconstruction era of rendering, so having a proper integer scaling is meaningless outside pixel 2D games, and those games are easy enough to run that you can always run native.
      You can use any internal resolution with the ally screen in 3D games, just use FSR2 or TAA and there you go, gonna be way better than a Switch image quality wise no matter what you do anyway.

Portable gaming handhelds with only 1 hour battery life is even worse than those gaming "laptops" of yester-year with 30 min battery life. I don't get why mobile geforce now never comes up in the handheld discussions. I get that some people need something they can play on a train , but most people just want to game in bed. All these handhelds are way overpriced for the experience they offer, except maybe the steamdeck, but one and a half the price of a home console, just to have to put up with low resolutions at 30fps on awful displays with abysmal battery life seems like a terrible deal to me.

    They are not, they will be "old" too quickly, Steam Deck can't run the recent games without struggling or using FSR to handle it. And the hardware updates will be annual, same as the Smartphones, not good for who wants to play for 5 years without changing the hardware to something new. And the battery is other point that makes these PC's not good to have.

      Switch at this point is too weak sure it has good battery life but when you have games like MK1 trying to run it's not a great experience. Unless you only want to play Nintendo exclusives and even some of those have pretty poor FPS.
