So right! It's unbelievable Dan had never watched TarylDactyl. It's a MUST for tinkerers as well as anyone with a mind to repair their small engine equipment.
Thanks for the shout out Dan! Appreciate the support. Glad we could help get it fixed. Now There's Yur Dinner!!!! (P.S. Send us your address and we'll send ya a free T-Shirt!)
What a great video! I was stuck as to why my mower blades were turning while the deck was disengaged. You gave me a starting point to go solve this issue. I'm expecting to solve the problem without having to spend a lot of money at a repair shop. PS I looked at buying a new tractor. Not only are they around 3000 dollars for the one that I would want ( CA prices are of course a lot higher than the rest of the country), but there was no post Covid 19 lock down inventory to buy one! Again thanks for posting the great video so that I have a good starting point. My LT 1000 Craftsman is a 2002 model with a 42 inch mower deck and a 21 HP Briggs and Stratton engine that I bought new at Sears nearly 20 years ago.
Good job fixing mower dan!! That lawn tractor style brings back memories of me sitting on my grandpas lap wen little just waiting for the day wen i could reach pedels so i could ride myself and help papa with his yard. Great video dan. Keep em comin brotha
My '99 Craftsman 42" deck has about a 1/2" slot about 4" back from the front of the deck on the high part/grass channel for the return spring. I don't understand why yours don't have that.
I like your video, but I was looking for how to hook the deck engagement cable everyone is saying to hook up into the cable box but the one I have don't have it?
I could smell that rust as you were grinding. I used Antiseize on mine because it leaves a film if the grease washes off. Good Job on getting it fixed.
Rebuilt my deck and replaced the clutch engagement cable but it's difficult to move it up in order to engage the blades and mower is not cutting. I guess I should've played around to make that one pulley moves freely and greased the crud out of it.
there are no more new craftsman mower’s,,, I have a nine-year-old Huskee 3800 and I was thinking about replacing it(not because it doesn’t work it still does very well I was just thinking about upgrading) all these new lawn tractors are made in the same factory pretty much the same way with a few slight variations and different name plates I don’t know if it’s MTD or exactly what but they all look very similar with the exception of a few,,,John Deere I believe is still made down south in their own factory,,, I also have an old craftsman the model number starts with 917 so I’m assuming it was made by American yard products??? Looks like a cube lotta people nicknamed it the cube,,, hydrostatic it had the Kohler command engine 15/2 horse and manual engagement,,, mechanical deck linkage deck engagement I’m having some trouble with it so I thought I’d just replace it with a brand new craftsman,,,man was I ever disappointed,,,since then I’ve been ordering parts for my old craftsmen and I’m thinking about trying to keep her around a little bit while longer,,,idk??? Once I get my deck working well I suppose the transmission will go out(hope not) I have to replace the drive belt soon also I believe. I’ve already had to replace the motor all I could find in my price range at the time the motor went out was an older Briggs & Stratton opposed twin I believe it’s about 15 hp I have to keep the hood off right now because of the exhaust and I welded some straight pipe for each side And put small mufflers on the end of them looks a little strange but sounds cool as he\\,,, dual exhaust,,,I’m going to do a little more welding on the exhaust pipes and make the hood will fit and have dual stacks coming out one on each side when I’m done sounds crazy but I really think it will work....
Well here I am. My deck handle has been hateful for the last coupla seasons. Gotta pump it to engage....and sometimes pump it to un-engage. Today with mebbe one more yard cut of this season it just hung in neutral with the blades engaged. So happens you and I have just about the same vintage make and model. So first..how to get the dang deck off. Ha!
@@DansVlog Thanks! We fixed it looks like. Turned out that where that plate gizmonic contacted one of the rollers it had sharpened itself knife sharp to where it was riding up between the roller and the roller holder and wedging itself. Took it off, blunted the edge, put it back on and it engages smoother than I remember now. Wouldn't have had a clue what I was looking at without your super vid!
What you can’t see is the cable and spring that holds the pulley tight does not release as far as what I’m showing on camera. That’s why I moved it one last time so it would keep a little bit of tension on that spring when it’s actually all together
@@DansVlog yeah you drilled a hole to install the spring to make the blade engagement work properly and I wondered how it could work without a spring in the first place
It looks as if your washers maybe are worn down. Check the thicknesses. That's probably why you still have rubbing. Also try moving the spring hole further away so it doesn't rebound so bad. Rebound may pop your spring off and cause damage.
Taryl Fixes All is a great TH-cam channel. I watch all his videos. Glad someone refered you to him
So right! It's unbelievable Dan had never watched TarylDactyl.

I don’t have time to watch many TH-cam videos. The ones I do watch have nothing to do with lawn mowers lol.

I've watched most of Taryl Dactyl's videos, he is great !!

Thanks 👍
Great job fixing that mower deck.taryl is a character but he is good.he knows his stuff

Great video. Huge thanks from a guy with a nicely refurbished deck on his old mower.

Why my mower engagement works only when I lift deck up high .Started after put new belt on . What's wrong

🤷🏽♂️
Taryl and junior are great. Great video
Ya they are
I like your video, but I was looking for how to hook the deck engagement cable everyone is saying to hook up into the cable box but the one I have don't have it?
You might have a switch you pull out to engage the deck blades. In that case, there would not be any cables.
I could smell that rust as you were grinding. I used Antiseize on mine because it leaves a film if the grease washes off. Good Job on getting it fixed.
Thank you buddy
I've slathered wd-40 on those moving parts that made it work
Without any grease on there, a little penatrant does free it up after it has sat in the rain.
That your new lawnmower congratulations Dan you are very smart keep it up
Thank you Julian
great video, can't remember if I told you, don't forget to add a sleeve over that spring (16ga. wire sheath)
Thank you!
You won’t let me skip ads so I ll just skip your videos
Your fix works for me! Thanks!
Hey dan, got a question. Do you think you can make a video on how to flat edge? I do need a little help in that area
What is flat edge?
I guess it's not the proper name but when you walk straight with your timer on the edge after trim it.
Yards look good from E, Texas!! Great fix and I'm going to look at Taryl's channel!! Thanks!!!
Thank you!
Your welcome Dan well my neighbour gave me a lawn boy mower it is missing a rubber Flap but it works great mulch good
your welcome DAN glad i could fix it for you
Lol thank you
all good Dan lol now get that mower and hit some tal grass vids pal
More good info,dan. Thanks.
I meant to ask you about trimmet line. Why you choose .80 over .95?. I have a echo that takes .80 or .95 or 1.05
Dan has a video explaining why.
@@marksreviewsandrants8554 thanks mark i will search for it. I meant to sau .080. .095. And .105
The .080 I link to in my video descriptions slices thru grass and weeds like a razor blade.
That worked well. Gotta do this, I think, on a 40 Murray with a pull handle engagement lever. If my back quits hurting, I can barely lean over.
Thanks
You the man dan great job
Thank you Jorma, you da man!!!
got any suggestions for this problem i have...the lever that engages the blades is very tight and hard to push up? thanks for any tips
WD40?
@@DansVlog sprayed all the engagement moving parts with wd40 and shifted them back and forth several times. made a world of difference. thanks
Just noted those washers and bolt were not greased, couldn't hurt to apply some ,thanks for letting me add this comment.
Taryl is the best, gotta keep an eye on him tho, he doesn't shake his w/d 40, do you?great video
Did you record you mowing with the riding mower??
No not this time cause I kept stopping to adjust the deck
Wow! That's a lot of work!
Wasnt too bad
Good job Dan, I'll check out taryl. Thanks
Thank you Rick
Great work mate ! well done
Question to u that have nothing to do with this video but what’s psi hose should u use with 3800 pressure washer the hose I have now it’s 4500 psi
And I’m thinking of getting a longer hose
150 ft of 4-5000psi is all you need. I link to it in my video descriptions
Top job mate😁👍
Thank you
Desperation is the mother of innovation

I have a 33 inch walk behind and blades won't stay engage unless I hold down the handle
Loose belt
Dan, what you should have done is drill the hole far enough away that the spring stays stretched a little and never becomes completely slack.,

Does anyone know how to get the knob off the mower engagement lever?
Unscrew?
@@masujaro5123 Nope, had to saw it off.
That doesn't have a PTO switch?
No
I think I saw that Tarrel fixes all the guy with the Billie Bob teeth?
Yup that is Taryl
My blades are stuck and will not turn when engaged. Why?
Measure once and cut 3 times, they say.
Or drill!!! Lolol
Dan ... put a bolt in that last hole ... then hook your spring on that ... it will lift the spring a little so it doesn' t drag on the deck.
That’s a great idea! I will do that
Or he could've used the OEM hole farther forward on the deck. The spring is supposed to rest on the deck and be under tension when released.
Taryl's great.
Sure is
so there wasn't a spring on that mower to begin with??
I don’t recall now without going back to watch it.

I have a lt1000 made in 95 when engaging blades my mower cuts off also its a red wire that not connected that's hooked with blue wire bottom left side
I get an itch to repaint your riding mower. Yeah, I know..."Not my mower, not my mower, not my mower....."😄
Lol I was thinking painting it all black with chrome “Punisher” logos
That would definitely catch the men's eyes! 😊 That's one of my son's favorite movies and his Harley is black and chrome.
Use the contours in the metal and do a cool two tone.no neutral colors.
For example,2 tone blue or bright red and burgundy or maroon, etc
Like your videos
Thank you
The plastic you cut off was a guide to keep metal from rubbing
Darlene Richwine ooops
make sure you brake arms are rolling on the plate you grinded
If would peace angle iron and place higher it would done it hole spring higher
I wish you got all those yards on video
Patience my friend! The season is not yet over lol
And there’s your dinner
Yup!!!
Good video WOOP Woop
I would have used a wire wheel . Or even better sandblast . Both ways would take off less metal .
